I actually put them in the pouch then put the pouch into the box for double blocking security, just in case. While not as bad as other countries car theft crimes are increasing in Japan now and here the number 1 stolen car is actually Land Cruisers I think followed by Mercs, BMW and Audi's.
Thanks for this video, it was extremely informative. I've brought a brand new car a couple of days ago and it has a keyless entry option. I didn't even know what it was until I saw your video. I'll make sure I switch they off straight away and invest in a Faraday box 👍
No need for the faraday cage, you can turn off the key fob so it won't transmit the signal. On my Toyota, I hold the lock button and press the unlock key twice.
Modern thieves can unlock and start new cars without the need for a signal from your key, rendering the need for a Faraday box. I speak from experience. I believe from my research, thieves who have access to a powerful diagnostic tool/computer programs can create a key wirelessly from their devices and then start the car via the OBD port
Get yourself an immobiliser and tracker with a steering wheel lock as a visible deterrent. This keyless function is something that doesn’t seem to be particularly desirable from a customer point of view and seems to make the cars insanely simple to steal.

Use a high end quality brake pedal, or accelerator pedal lock and put the lock barrel towards centre console or buy 2 one for each pedal, very good items. Its no bother for me, great items 👍👍👍👍
Useful, though tried disabling the keyless entry on my L405 and it didn’t work - realised that it was because I was standing outside of the car. Tried it whilst sitting in the car and it worked - might be worth making that clear…..
DIY key fob Faraday cage. Tuna can as the container, large tuna can as the lid. Wrapped in aluminum foil because tin cans typically have a coating that prevents good electrical connection between the container and the lid.
It is urban mit. If not ideal connected lid cannot block signal. Wrong the gap is much more smaler than ¼ wave lenght. So for radiowave no gap. Look microwave owen you have glas door but still work like perfect Faraday cage. Door are not galvanic connected with owen. And work. Why? On the glas you have printed metal mesh with small holes but much more smaller than ¼ wave lenght. And microwave owen use much higher frequency than key fob also much more stronger signal and no leak at all. If someone interested more in this topic need time. Microwave behaviour, microwave instalation this is special science. DIY Faraday cage builder often make manny wrong. Thinking they "know how".
@@zoran9a3hpdiy Lid gap for a fact does leak RF. I know this from personal testing. Just a small breach in the lid to can connection defeats the key-fob Faraday cage. My go to key-fob Faraday cage is half a paper towel tube (about 6") wrapped with several layers of tinfoil that also covers one end. The other end is left open. No lid etc. The diameter of the opening combined with the depth makes it an effective and convenient key-fob Faraday cage. Just drop the key-fob in and dump it out when needed. Very simple to construct and use.
Hey bro I’m from high Wycombe and a big fan of range rovers and own one, thank you so much for your video, really helpful. Specially keeping the key safe, I will definitely do that, as I just leave it in the hall way, we’ll done! Regards AJ
A couple weeks ago a car was stolen from a residential car park in the Cressex area. The owner used a Faraday bag. My theory is that the thieves have now upgraded to using a CAN Bus injection attack. They access the CAN bus via the head lights and send a data packet telling the car's computer that the key is present and validated. It then opens all locks and allows the engine to be started by the thieves. What can owners do to defend against that?
Mercedes (Keyless Start at least) - just click LOCK twice (Lock-Lock) as you walk away. The red LED on the key fob will blink a long blink, and then the entire key fob will go to sleep. When sleeping, the transponder is OFF and will not respond to "Relay Attacks". To wake it up, just walk towards the car and press Unlock as normal. Do this Lock-Lock to your spare key too, the one left in the front hall. Easy as pie. The Lock button will wear out twice as fast, but the battery will last for years.
The manufacturer should be sued for poor security they should recall and fix it what happened to old key and lock there should be fingerprinted scanner to start car and code to start car
Range Rover deny there’s anything wrong with their keyless entry. Yet they are stolen here 1-3 a week, without any keys…… Range Rover official comment to me “we can’t be expected to beat the thieves getting cleverer” Well there you go, Cop Out!,
I'd like to see a new player to join the industry and give these same old car manufactures a wake-up call for them to change, just like what Apple has done to Nokia and Blackberry.
Another tip, 007 style, tyre-spikes line across the driveway and 3 bollards. It’s taking more than that in the Uk these days but it definitely will do the job.
Or you could get a Ghost II immobiliser, which prevents the vehicle from being started even with the key unless various buttons in the car are pressed in a bedpoke sequence.
The issue with making car theft harder is, that they turn to hijacking and catch you as you reverse out of your driveway. The issue with disabling keyless entry on Toyotas, is that you have to do the procedure everytime after a key is pressed on the remote - so that defeats the purpose.
Question:- first tip - if you turn auto unlock off when you come close to the car or by touching the door… how do you start your car? Doesn’t it work the same way? When they use those relay units don’t they scan your house for the key to 1. Unlock the car without the key and 2. Start the car without the key? Wondering if it’s just stopping them from getting in the car only? As I’m guessing your key still works inside the car? Great video though! What about the Ghost immobiliser?
They use the relay to get into the car and then connect to the OBD to program their own fob. The car makers should be able to design the OBD to use an encrypted connection with MFA.
Also don’t press a button on the remote over and over especially in the same place - for example pressing lock 2ce or more. A potential hacker near by has better chances of breaking the digi cypher with multiple outputs from the key fob
Right the first one is best disable keyless secondly buy a obd safe have it hidden then put a dummy one in its place with a 12v feed to blow there diagnostics up cost about 600
I bought a Faraday box/pouch combo, the pouch is perfect for the spare key as its easier to hide away and the box is good for daily use. I can turn keyless entry off on my car but it automatically reactivates when i unlock the car. Its a Hyundai so not in the same desirability league as a Range Rover but i still want it to be where I left it.
After 18 months of use the Halfords Faraday pouch was found to be defective, this I found out by accident having started and parked the car with the key fob in the pouch. Repeated tests proved the pouch was no longer working. Subsequent investigation revealed that you regularly need to test the pouch for reliability if you carry it around and put in and out of a pocket. Felix how do you reset the Land Rover key remote to enable keyless entry once disabled?
Your comments were interesting, however I have one question for you please, in that do not all these expensive high end vehicles come factory installed with vehicle tracking systems? I would at least expect them to be or am I wrong? I would be very interested to know please. Many thanks.
My mum had power switches installed inside the garage to disable power to gate and garage door, physically, when they retire for the night. She thought of that one decades back and it's clever.. get an electrician to do it, it's like just turning off a light switch when you close your garage door for the night.
She must have met my Gran ! not only did she do that , but she had a power roller shutter at the TOP of her stairs so if anyone got in at night they could ransack the downstairs but she was safe in her upstairs rooms.
You could put an intelligent home timer on it so you can turn it on and off from your phone without going to the garage (and hide the switch in the garage better) and/or automate it so if you don’t want to have remember every night or forget to do it, it turns off after your bedtime and back on in the morning. If you are out very late one night and it is off when you get home in the car just turn it on with your phone from an outside location where your wifi is available
Wonderful, thanks for the tips. I keep my smart key in a safe pouch, in the pocket of one of my many coats in the mud room by the garage. The heck if I'm going to bring the key to the bedroom everyday ; )
Well in the US we have the 2nd amendment and in my state of Texas we have permit to carry and be aware when u sleep dont sleep too deep and have that iron ready 😉
The one thing I would say is do NOT leave your keys next to your bed. Leave them somewhere obvious like next to the front door. If thieves are that committed they will wake you up, not care and potentially threaten you and your family - most come armed so better to lose your car in that situation!

I just pulled the gutz from my '23 Chevy key fob, switched the battery out with a small lithium battery and charging module, and added a switch between the battery and the remote, no need for a Faraday box or pouch I will be making an aboriginal leather necklace to house the remote The remote only need to be on for a few seconds when you unlock and start the car and when you lock and arm it no need to be broadcasting the signal for someone to record the signal from your pocket when you are out and about
felix, have you overlooked something, when you open your car, and are driving, surely anyone passing maybe in ques of traffic car get your frequency from your incar device, can you once started your engine put the key into a faraday pouch, but would this switch the engine off.
I use to steal cars to order and I can tell you from my experience this guy talks sense for me a kill switch well hidden and not easily accessible even if they get your keys won’t start but when you make something difficult to steal they will resort to other ways always except the unexpected
Put a heavy chain and padlock around the steering wheel then down around the pedals. Range Rover SVR along street has one. Small inconvenience to the owner. Has been looked at several times by thieves but they can't be arsed not to mention its under high end cctv sending notifications to the owner and behind a bolted gate.
Hi Felix, Nice video thanks. However, I have a 2018 Vogue SE and the 'disable keyless entry' in your video didn't work for me .....until I went through the same procedure with the drivers door open !😀
An on/off switch would be better. Signal timing checks to ensure the actual fob is within required range of the vehicle rather than being relayed would be a nice method. Another method would be for the fob keyless entry/start features to turn off when the fob is stationary for a few seconds.
Faraday bags / pouches are useless they leak signal degrade v quickly . And lead you into a false sense of security .. . Experience talking here .. . Avoid them .. they are not the answer .
Good ideas - but what about ways thieves use to steal these vehicles without utilizing your FOB- pick the lock , once inside they download the security code from the car port under the dash and transfer it to a new FOB- I saw a video of this and it was done in 3 minutes
On an S class, a quick double press of the keyfob "lock" button turns the keyless system off... any key fob button press turns it back on....do it when you put your key away... painless
Someone needs to make a system that has Face ID and if it doesn’t recognise you it locks the door and blasts the peppa pig theme song bass boosted at 100 volume
i have a faraday pouch which is good and use it, i have cctv and automatrix tracker, what i fail to understand is how on earth can possibly MISS OUT the main thing thats stops the thieves from driving off in your car - A GHOST IMMOBILIZER, it is almost impossible to bypass and any thief hellbent on trying to remove it, will have to do enough damage to the cars electrical system to render it undrivable anyway
As these are stolen to order along with other brands of this level, thieves will be out an about looking for your vehicle. Once they see you by the road getting your kids in and out or even parked up whilst you're in the shops they stick a tracker under your car. The craze at the moment from multiple car thefts of high-end vehicles in London has involved the simple Apple Air-tag. £30 and on it goes. They sit back and wtch you from their iPhone go about your life and then see where you live. At this point they have worked out your routine with school run etc. and sit in your road and grab the key fob's signal as it has to come out off the protective storage. This is then immediately stored on thier dummy fob and they come back later and take it. My frind had a trackert company that alerted the police and when going to get his car back with £6k worth or wiring as they seeked to blow the car's tracker he was getting to the door and they locked it on him. The police and him looked at each other and were like, yep they have a real front. If you allow notifications on the Find My Phone on an iPhone (see online full processs) Apple made this so they could not be used against you. So an Air Tag works by working off other iPhone signals around it within 30ft to send a signal of its location. It's not a true GPS. However if you have your Find My iPhone set up correctly it alerts you to unidentified trackers that are travelling with you. It's works out they are noit paired with your phone and alert you.
The best free way to keep your car safe, especially on holiday if you have an automatic transmission if you remove an essential MOT required fuse, the horn fuse for example, the car can be started but won't let you take it out of park so can't be driven. There is no way a thief will know why its not shifting gear and they will have to give up.
I had my Range Rover stolen last year using the relay method I have just bought a new Range Rover and use the faraday box for my new key I’ve put the key I kept from my stolen Range Rover out of view near the front door so if they try again the signal from the old key will mess with their heads they will get a sign all but think their equipment is faulty. 😂
6. use the garage if u have one and its big enough..not for dumping crap you dont want in the house, not for a spare room but for housing the car..out of view..if you dont have one and have the space and money...get one built 7. ford cortinas in the 70's took longer to nick than range/land rovers in modern times..i think it was 6 seconds!!
Well I just figured a way around this after watching two videos on the subject. they ( thieves) will simply drive up next to you at a stop sign or down the road. get your info and wait until you run into a pub.
I think if you are going to have a car like this you need a garage, ask your insurance company if it will reduce the premium were you to garage the vehicle. Having a tracker is recommended and well worth the money. As with anything of value you need to think of the security element and cost. An isolation switch could be useful to have and if fitted properly might pay for itself. Keeping keys inside your home is something to look at, maybe a decorative safe built into the the wall and given a fake mains cover for example. The spare keys should be accessible but not in an obvious place, maybe with a neighbour you can trust. Technology can be bypassed so take that into consideration. A krooklock might be handy so the handbrake cannot be released without a key. Take professional advice and also ask the local police if they have any information to assist you.
Insurance do ask where the vehicle is garaged, but they are asking what zip code you are parking it in. I was licensed in all 50 states, and none offered a discount for parking it in an actual garage. I suspect, this is due to the vehicle leaving that garage and being parked anywhere.
The best anti-theft system is the IGLA, which requires to touch some switches in sequence once you enter the vehicle, otherwise the car will NOT start, even if the thieves have the key! The other method is to hide a cutoff switch to the fuel pump! Less expensive than an immobiliser systems!
I disabled keyless entry on my Evoque. Caused the battery to go flat because for some reason it caused the rear number plate lights to stay on without me realising it. Had to call out Land Rover Assist twice. Re-enabled keyless entry and now OK. Know of same thing happening to another Evoque.
Thank you for your tips. :) Though all these are nice, I personally prefer a biometric fingerprint scanner inside the vehicle without which the car just does not start. It can also be paired with a hidden or disguised kill switch. As for keeping the vehicle safe when parked in a space near the house, my friends dad has installed a hydraulic rectractable security bollard which is controlled from inside the house. :)
determined thieves would just break into your house and chop your finger off to use on the scanner then torture you to tell them where the kill switch is
@@nobbydeano LOL. Determination and will power is something that can break anything in this world or even outside it regardless of how fortified it is. Your the first person that explained this the correct way , I do have one question , what if some has already gotten your car key remote signal but have not stolen the car yet would doing these theft preventative step still work?
Rolling Codes prevents this (codes used only once), but some reports say that some (bad implementations?) have been cracked (can be predicted, extrapolated).
ok (not an option for everyone) but wouldnt it be a good idea in your situation atleast 2 block the R/R in with the lesser value 2nd car ? then they would have 2 break in2 that 2 move that 1st ! and yes I am aware that of course they can probably do this ! but isnt all car crime prevention just a case of making your car more of a pain in the a@'@ 2 take rather than the blokes down the road ?
You might already throw your smartphone, tablet & computer, since your personal data can be stolen at any moment. Fear is not the right motivation to stop using a feature.
Good tips. Security is always a compromise between strength and convenience. The stronger the security the less convenient it is to use it. I solve the problem of car theft by welding all the doors shut and removing the engine. It's not convenient but the car's never been stolen... 😂
Most faraday pouches are useless. To test, put the fob into a pouch and walk to your car. If the courtesy lights come on or the mirrors open outward, the pouch is useless, radio signal is getting out. I use an old mint tin can instead. Spare fob is in an old toffee tin.
Tins can be problematic due to having a coating that prevents a good electrical connection between the container and the lid. Wrapping with aluminum foil can help. It is critical not to have any breaks in electrical conduction.

@@AsceticFocus any tin box will do - biscuit tin etc , even just wrapping your keys in alfoil will stop them piggy backing your signal.
Get yourself an immobiliser and tracker with a steering wheel lock as a visible deterrent. This keyless function is something that doesn’t seem to be particularly desirable from a customer point of view and seems to make the cars insanely simple to steal.

And all u have to do after that is simply take OUT UR battery FROM UR fob. Cant detect keyl . That's what my car say when my battery is drained.

They will have to bring the flatbed to get it.. 😊 just saying.
The Faraday pocket pouches can also be used to block RIFD theft for yr credit cards!
I have a range rover and use a Disk Lock which is approved by thatcham . The police also approve this steering lock.
The thieves attended to steal my car attempted to break the disk lock barrel and could not do it. Steering bars are in my opinion a poor alternative to the disk lock. As can be forced breaking the steering wheel.
Use a high end quality brake pedal, or accelerator pedal lock and put the lock barrel towards centre console or buy 2 one for each pedal, very good items.
Its no bother for me, great items 👍👍👍👍
Number 1 tip, if you have a garage.... get rid of all your collect junk and park your car inside the garage. 😅
Or buy a $1400 shed to put $1000 worth of junk so you can put the $100,000 car in the garage 😂

Useful, though tried disabling the keyless entry on my L405 and it didn’t work - realised that it was because I was standing outside of the car. Tried it whilst sitting in the car and it worked - might be worth making that clear…..
…open the door?
DIY key fob Faraday cage.
Tuna can as the container, large tuna can as the lid.
Wrapped in aluminum foil because tin cans typically have a coating that prevents good electrical connection between the container and the lid.
I mean if you can afford a Range Rover, surely you can buy a cheap faraday box off of Amazon. Good idea though.

@@bornachfit a ghost immobiliser. £500 all in.

Don’t wanna go down fingerprint road, people be getting fingers cut off
Range Rover deny there’s anything wrong with their keyless entry. Yet they are stolen here 1-3 a week, without any keys…… Range Rover official comment to me “we can’t be expected to beat the thieves getting cleverer”
Well there you go, Cop Out!,
I'd like to see a new player to join the industry and give these same old car manufactures a wake-up call for them to change, just like what Apple has done to Nokia and Blackberry.
Another tip, 007 style, tyre-spikes line across the driveway and 3 bollards. It’s taking more than that in the Uk these days but it definitely will do the job.
When I was shopping for a new car in 2018 I asked the sales guy to show me only the cars with physical keys. I bought a Subaru with an old school key.
Thanks for this video. I picked up a new car earlier today, and this is very helpful.

#this This is a great point you make!
I've ordered 2 pqcks for my new car, and my sister and my daughter, and my hubby.
In South Africa they do follow you in the super market with relay devise so rather be cautious. Use the pouch all the time.
What do you think of the Security company Ghost
Install a Ghost £350 + vat inc installation Custom Ice (on the A406 Hall Lane Chingford) used them for 30years

Need to be aware that the people who install imobilisers sometimes do other jobs on the side, if you know what i mean. Hahaha.
@@robertcroft8241 Now that's clever too, make upstairs a safe room! Nice one!
Is there any point in the Faraday box/ pouch if you disable keyless entry?
You can put a chain the alloy wheel spoke and lock with a padlock and also can put it through a kettle ball weight.

The one thing I would say is do NOT leave your keys next to your bed. Leave them somewhere obvious like next to the front door. If thieves are that committed they will wake you up, not care and potentially threaten you and your family - most come armed so better to lose your car in that situation!

I just pulled the gutz from my '23 Chevy key fob, switched the battery out with a small lithium battery and charging module, and added a switch between the battery and the remote, no need for a Faraday box or pouch
I will be making an aboriginal leather necklace to house the remote
The remote only need to be on for a few seconds when you unlock and start the car and when you lock and arm it
no need to be broadcasting the signal for someone to record the signal from your pocket when you are out and about
felix, have you overlooked something, when you open your car, and are driving, surely anyone passing maybe in ques of traffic car get your frequency from your incar device, can you once started your engine put the key into a faraday pouch, but would this switch the engine off.
Yeah I thought the same thing, can't they wait for you to come out and get the frequency but I suppose that's why you have the other features
Will removing the battery from a spare key fob prevent the relay type of theft?
Hi Felix, Nice video thanks. However, I have a 2018 Vogue SE and the 'disable keyless entry' in your video didn't work for me .....until I went through the same procedure with the drivers door open !😀
Instead of just stealing your car, you're making it where they need to steal your life as well by keeping the key close to your person.
Great vid mate! I wonder why manufacturers don't include a faraday bag pouch, surely its a quick win for all
You'd think so Mike! Although perhaps that would mean the manufacturers would have to admit their systems are not very secure...
The dealer would say "Sorry your car got stolen... wanna buy another?"
I keep saying the same thing. They are so cheap and when ppl pay big money for their vehicles..they should supply everyone
Very informative, thank you!
Get a kill switch or even two …. Works every time …. Nam Jamaica
Tip #6 Don't go to Liverpool
Check on a Ghost II immobilizer system
is the keyless start signal separate to to the keyless entry signal? Otherwise, how is the car started if the key has been disabled?
Good ideas - but what about ways thieves use to steal these vehicles without utilizing your FOB- pick the lock , once inside they download the security code from the car port under the dash and transfer it to a new FOB- I saw a video of this and it was done in 3 minutes
I just pull the motor out every time i park. Works a treat.
On an S class, a quick double press of the keyfob "lock" button turns the keyless system off... any key fob button press turns it back on....do it when you put your key away... painless
All very good tips. Thanks for sharing.
Someone needs to make a system that has Face ID and if it doesn’t recognise you it locks the door and blasts the peppa pig theme song bass boosted at 100 volume
Exactly, we need fingerprint or faceid features in such expensive cars. We have them for less expensive laptops and phones!
Great video , thanks. I am planning to install a kill switch .
i have a faraday pouch which is good and use it, i have cctv and automatrix tracker, what i fail to understand is how on earth can possibly MISS OUT the main thing thats stops the thieves from driving off in your car - A GHOST IMMOBILIZER, it is almost impossible to bypass and any thief hellbent on trying to remove it, will have to do enough damage to the cars electrical system to render it undrivable anyway
You did not mention Ghost Keys. Do you consider this a deterrent?
What?
With the chained gates how does the postman visit?
great tip do what i did leave UK , here in New Zealand my Range Rover much safer, locked in garage.
Lucky man! New Zealand is a paradise it seems :)
6. use the garage if u have one and its big enough..not for dumping crap you dont want in the house, not for a spare room but for housing the car..out of view..if you dont have one and have the space and money...get one built
7. ford cortinas in the 70's took longer to nick than range/land rovers in modern times..i think it was 6 seconds!!
Well I just figured a way around this after watching two videos on the subject. they ( thieves) will simply drive up next to you at a stop sign or down the road. get your info and wait until you run into a pub.
How about a steering wheel bar lock ?
Thank you for showing me how to put a key in a box, but do I have to use my right hand or will either do?🤪
Good tips Felix, thanks from the states... Hide an off on switch for your fuel pump or starter, you asked for thoughts 🙂.....

One more tip - use OBD port lock. This is the most important point which can prevent thieves access to OBD port to clone your fob.

Security is always a compromise between strength and convenience. The stronger the security the less convenient it is to use it.
I solve the problem of car theft by welding all the doors shut and removing the engine. It's not convenient but the car's never been stolen... 😂
Can we recover keyless entry function or it will be gone forever?
No mention of using a steering wheel block… still the best VISIBLE deterrent :-)
