Great video. Very useful info. Thank you for it. Another thing that would help prevent vehicle theft is longer prison sentences. Put the thieves in jail where they belong!!
Got my 2019 Toyota RAV4 stolen in 30 seconds last week so anyone watching this that has pay attention! Was so shocked on how fast but now this makes sense. Thanks for the info!
I just had my Lexus RX 350 stolen June 4th parked outside my house. 99% of the time it is in my garage, however, I had my driveway paved & left my RX outside for 4 nights! The dirt bags must have done exactly what you described in your “tube!” At the time I did not know how to deactivate the key fob from the car! Nevertheless, I believe that Lexus/Toyota should. E doing more @ the design, manufacturing level to combat this problem! It is absolutely ridiculous that “dirt bags” can steal these automobiles so easily! Now, if I purchase another RX, I will have to be concerned about same “dirtbags” or different “dirtbags” will do the same thing & steal my replacement. I am in quite a conundrum as to whether to get another Lexus or just purchase an older used car that no one wants to steal! This is what our country is becoming!🇨🇦
I know man. My brother in law has his tundra stolen off his driveway… it’s sad. But right now, they’ll take anything. With new vehicles so hard to get. They are even taking corollas. Try pulling the fuel relay when you park the truck overnight. It cuts the fuel to engine. They stole like 100 cars in Scarborough one weekend… unfortunately if they want it, they’ll get it
@@ToyotaWorld I saw something on the tv news recently about thieves have learned how to use a USB cable to steal your car! I didn't see the whole thing, so I don't know how they do this, do you??? Why doesn't Toyota DO something about this horrible problem?
Typically. Manufacturers can’t do much about the continually evolving theft of vehicles situation. They do their best, but only so much they can do. If they solve one problem, another will be right behind
@@ToyotaWorld Typically? Sure auto theft is & has been a problem since the beginning! However, this is not a typical auto theft. It is the keyless entry that makes them so easy to steal.. That is a manufacturers, problem & design flaw!
I've seen videos on RUclips where a new Toyota RAV4 gets stolen in seconds and they don't even need a key. They hook up a minicomputer to the headlight, unlock and start the car, and drive away. All they have to do is slip their hand under the fender, pull off the protective plastic, disconnect the power to the light where they plug in their minicomputer and it's over! They have your car. It's sad.
The smart key system is the only thing that puts me off buying a Rav4, but then all the alternatives use them too! I much prefer the ‘old fashioned’ key start/remote that came with my 2019 VW Golf! It’s ridiculous that Toyota UK’s advice is to get a steering wheel lock, I haven’t needed one of those since my old 1980s Mini! Smart keys have created a problem that didn’t exist!
Hey, awesome video! But there's another method you can use - if you wrap a FobBlocker around the car key fob battery, then it puts the battery to sleep when not in motion. And it wakes up the battery when you start moving or using the key fob. This means that if anyone tries to steal a car when the key is off resting, they can't since the key won't emit a signal since the battery is "off".
I have never been told by Toyota dealer when I took my RAV 4 XLE '22. Probably of the covid-19 at that time it just told me to read my ownership book. So for now I am more aware what to do with my new car. I thant that Toyota dealer greatly.
Did you say the effective range for smart entry is 500feet? The information I got is the smart entry works if the distance between the key and your car is around 15feets… a bit confusing for me now…could you please provide some information? Thanks.
I have a 2018 Toyota Corolla SE with that key fob. However, it is not standard equipment. It came with part of the optional premium package. It is standard on the top level XSE trim
As far as I know it's not that easy, the signal from your key works to open the car but you need the actual key to turn it on, because it's not the same signal, and there's other features that's the car computer check between the real key and itself before starting the car. So, they may be use this system to open the car but then they have to do something else on de OBD 2 system.
Could the key fob be modified so that pushing the button is mandatory to unlock the vehicle? It would be an extreme hassle to repeatedly disable the continuous key fob transmissions. It seems like a brain dead design that key fobs are designed so poorly that make the vehicles much more vulnerable to theft for the slight convenience of not having to press a button to unlock your vehicle.
Hey Marcello thank you for the video i just bought a 22 toyota highlander xse and i have a big wind noise is that going to be easy fixed at the dealership.
Does Toyota have a key fob system that have the proximity sensor turned off and yet still acts like a regular key fob? That way it will never unlock itself when you get close. Disabling the key fob doesn’t really solve theft issues if the thief just waits until you re-enable your fob to capture that remote signal. I think old school Toyota key fobs make more sense. Want to unlock? You have to push the unlock button doesn’t matter if you are close or not. Will Toyota ever go back to this system?
Thank you for this, just went through the steps with my 22 4runner..... it works and I will be doing that with my FOB everytime I get out of my vehicle now. TOO... Protect your catalytic converter from the douche bag thieves, there is a company called MillerCat .... they make catalytic converter shields for Toyotas out of Aluminum and Stainless Steel. SKOL!🤘
The problem with deactivating your fob is that you're still sending out a signal in the process. I always lock the car using the inside door locks and carry the fob in a faraday pouch. It's better to go through batteries than send out a signal for a thief to grab.
Okay but I don't like the fact is that it activate itself again how do you deactivated permanently so all you have to do is press lock and unlock to open the door what's the two buttons on the remote like the older vehicles had it on the key lock and unlock that's the best way to do it is there a way you can get that done these new trucks with the push button thanks?
That’s basically what I do, except push button is only way to engage ignition: took battery out of fob, use slide-out key to enter, then hold fob (w/ no battery) to start/ stop button, press start button to start. Just don’t lock your key in the car old school because you’ll need to get it out likewise! (AAA, tow truck driver, etc)
I wish toyota would be like nissan where i could leave my car on and still lock my doors or I could autostart and not have it turned off when I open a door
I have a smart fob to get in and out but my car still takes a key to start the ignition. It’s def not completely smart like my Nissan was actually thats probably the only thing that was smart about my 08 Nissan. Could this “turning off your fob” method still work with my 21 corolla fob?
Is it possible to deactivate the modern convenience and only use the key instead of the buttons so no one can get your info and leave battery out of the thing and let nobody access your lock with high tech theivery so you dont have to deal with that BS tech stealing?
It works on my 2022 Subaru Legacy as well. Something I was not told about when purchasing at the dealership. I had to research it on my own. Being will all the current car jackings, at least in my city, it certainly comes in handy
Should have never done away with using keys alone to crank the engine. Perhaps they could create a faster short signal range where it’s too fast to be detected by just touching the handle. Like lighting speed that can’t register if not on the handle. I guess that’s getting into fingerprint detection. Allow programmable prints. Leave the long range code that only locks. So two separate codes. How are these dealerships not getting robbed blind?
thats not the only way they get in. they can brake the lock on the door and get in and reprogam the ecu to get control like they did with my 2022 highlander platinum, the also tried to disable the antenna so that none of the signals would go back to Toyota HQ so he vehicle could be tracked

So do you need to do that every time or is it a one time thing? You said just clicking lock/unlock immediately reactivates the frequency
