TIP: when you go on to your layers, if you click on the little N, you can adjuts the opacity of the layer instead of having to go all the way to the other side of the screen. Hope this helps as a little shortcut!

@Mikromorphosis I definitely recommend the iPad. It has plenty of space, works well, and is easy to travel with. Plus it comes in a wide range of colours. Mine is green.
They literally changed where they have the opacity button. I had to look it up 😓 I was stressing. If anyone looking for it it’s located on the layers tab, click the N (its next to the checked box) and its there!

Great video! Thank you for the tips! One thing I would recommend is to always export as a PNG because it uses lossless compression. JPEG uses lossy compression, so every time you email it, edit it, text it or pretty much anything, the quality will decrease (this is supposedly to save storage space, but really has no other benefit). PNGs may be a little bit of a larger file size, but they will stay the same quality that you exported it at!

Hi Emma, Wow! What an amazing video you have shared with us. Thank you for taking the time to be so helpful. My daughter recommended Procreate to learn to sketch on my iPad. I've never done anything digital before like this. With your help I can really get started. I really like your style, so relaxed and down to earth. My kids are grown but I remember how difficult it was when they were young to find time for anything and here you are spending that time helping others. I look forward to watching your other videos. Thank you so much! Tom
As a total newbie to Procreate this video helped me a lot to see how to get started using the app and the sorts of things I can create. Your directions are clear and presented in a way that's easy for me to understand. I look forward to watching more of your videos. Thanks!
Your son is so adorable and SMART💙!!! I don’t have an iPad or ProCreate yet, but I’m so glad you shared this tutorial. I can save it to refer back to when I get my iPad (hopefully soon!)
I've been wanting to use Procreate but honestly it can be a bit intimidating to get started. I've used Photoshop for years for simple things like photo editing but Procreate is a different animal. This video took all the intimidation out of Procreate. It's actually very easy to use, just a ton of features. Thank you so much for taking the time to create this super helpful video.
NOAH!!! He’s just so cute. I love seeing him grow. This video is just so great. Only one problem ... now I need to find a way to buy an iPad Pro and Apple Pen! What a powerful tool. Much more user friendly than Photoshop. You are, of course, wonderful! ❤️

I just downloaded Procreate and everything seemed nice and simple, yet I couldn’t figure out how to go back/erase my mistakes. This tutorial is amazing and I’m excited to continue experimenting with the app 💕
Perfect for beginners. Love your calligraphy twist. So happy to finally learn about alpha block ♥️. For your information: between the pen and the eraser, it’s the blending tool. Very useful for a smooth finish on skin illustrations… like makeup 😉

I loved the part where she's talking about calligraphy, and was saying how you use less pressure and double tapped on the pencil and accidentally switched it to eraser mode. That shit gets me all the time! I still love the feature, but I accidentally switch way more than I'd like to.
This is the first video I’ve watched that actually helped me a lot with things I was very curious, like how to add text writing and pictures to an art work , I’ve got mine on Christmas 2022 but I kind of left it out after a few tries , but now I am going again for another try so thank you from South Australia 🇦🇺
Thank you! The latest Procreate does not have the opacity where she shows in her video. And I havr been struggle to find it! But your comment helped me!
Thank you for these tips. I bought procreate and pencil last year but isn’t using it until now. I am happy I saw your tutorial to make my exploring a lot easier and less frustrating :)
for opacity, open the correspondant layer, tap with two fingers on it, then swipe to the left or right to change opacity (credits to Taylor Design Studio 9-24-20)
Thank you so much! I have the app and bought a tutorial on Udemy that was way beyond my understanding. Yours was very helpful in that you taught it in such a straightforward manner, I was able to go back to the Udemy video and it finally made sense! Absolutely LOVE the calligraphy stuff and the shape tool! Thank you for covering so many of the tools as well. ❤️❤️❤️❤️😁
I think this is a great overview of Procreate. There is one fundamental flaw in the video which might confuse some of your viewers. Which is when you make your canvas. The canvas size you selected is very low resolution. Which means the illustration you create will not produce satisfactory results if you want to print your illustration. Raster images cannot be scaled up and maintain their image integrity. So if all you are going to do is leave the image in the digital realm and don't want to show it larger, then what you did is ok. But if you want to be able to see all the detail in an illustration or want to produce a print, your settings will not produce quality imagery.
@@brass9787 Hi Brass. Well, that is controlled by what size you want to print the piece. For example, if you were wanting to print something large, say poster size, it would need to be something like 18 in by 24 in @ 300 dpi. Print resolution standard is 300 dpi. So just determine how many inches the print will be and then just make sure the dpi is set to 300.
I have procreate pocket but I’m getting an iPad for my birthday coming up! I have found my love for digital art and these tips will really help! Thank you 😊
Note that opacity has changed after this older video! It's now in the tool you can no longer go on the adjustment tool! It is now on the layer are tool to the right click on it and open and double-tap with two fingers on the layer your on and it will open or click on the N symbol to do in inside the setting layer itself.

Please do more Procreate videos... maybe on adding color. Yours was the easiest to follow that I’ve watched!
Just a little tip: you can take a screenshot simple by swiping the pencil from the left bottom corner up 👌 good vid, thx for tutorial
This is interesting video thank you for sharing it now I can start to draw and coloring again❤
Wow!!! Thank you so much!!!
I know like nothing about procreate and I’m watching this bc it’s just so good
Hi Emma,
Wow!
Photoshop is 10x more deep than Procreate, if youve used PS then Procreate really shouldnt be a problem.
@@nicolaibrejnegaard9934 Yes you are correct. Procreate seems much more simple to use than PS.
I'm gifting myself an iPad for Christmas this year, and your video was the first thing I ran to to learn how to use it with my watercolors.
NOAH!!! He’s just so cute. I love seeing him grow. This video is just so great. Only one problem ... now I need to find a way to buy an iPad Pro and Apple Pen! What a powerful tool. Much more user friendly than Photoshop. You are, of course, wonderful! ❤️
Debbie Buttars I just bought an ipad 7th gen from amazon for $350 and apple pencil. Works great!
Sunshine Video Nice! Now I just need to find $350! 😂 I’m on disability. Now I’m one of those people who say, “I live on a fixed income.” But I’m going to keep that in mind. Thanks!
How did you get perfect curves when you were drawing your cat?
Who knows lol
I think she had Streamline turned on which helps guide you
I have an IPad nd the pen but had no idea what software to use for art! Thank you so much for the overview of what I need.
Everytime you said your writing was bad I was like no way! So good! This was very helpful! Thanks!
This is a great tutorial. I absolutely love the fact that you are learning by doing and sharing as you go.
Yay, Emma! I have bought an ipad air and got procreate early in the year but have never gotten around to taking a tutorial. But since it is you and I know how you are so good at explaining watercolor, I have finally watched a tutorial and should be able to start using this app. Thank you so much!
I have been messing about with procreate for ages. Now I know what it does. The best video on this subject I have seen. Thank you xx
I just purchased this app and so needed instruction on how to use it! Thank you so much!
holy s**t! that streamline option feels like cheating, it's like autotune for drawing!
Yeah, but tbh if you have a problem with it then just don't do it
Lol!
What part of the video?
It's part of every art program. Only on others they have different names.
ikr?!
SO I HAVE To say... i bought my ipad about 1 year ago solely because of the procreate. it looked cool when I seen others use it and since i have my cricut . but omg I untill this day couldnt figure it out!!! i have watched several youtube videos and evenjoined FB groups in hopes of a basic and detailed tutorial. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!! i can honestly say i ot only saving this video, subscribng but also can tell hubby i finally have an idea how to use the app. he will finally feel that he didnt spend his money for nothing! LETS CREATE!!!
This was the most helpful tutorial I have ever seen... AMAZING
TIP: streamline is now in the stabilization tab in version 5.2 . Adjust stabilization to get same effect to straighten lines
Thanks :’)
This is such a brilliant Tutorial! Other people race across the screen without properly explaining what they're even doing 🙄 ... They assume everyone has used the software before. Thanks for taking time to show us properly ... So much appreciated! 🇬🇧🤗❤️
Can you show me how we can use our own art we painted and bring in here to make a repeat patterns please?
This was EXTREMELY helpful ! Thank you so much
Also, your son is absolutely adorable!
The finger is used to blur and you can use different brushes to blur it in different ways. By blur I mean you can kind of blend in.
As a young artist i recently got an iPad for procreate this is very useful thank you!
thet si good
This was so helpful thank you so much ☺️ I'm getting the new iPad Air today and I wanna use this app to work in designs thank you so much
I’ve been using ibispaint for like 5 years (since I was 11, now i’m 15) and saw procreate has bunch of beautiful brushes.
*internal heaven*
I loved the part where she's talking about calligraphy, and was saying how you use less pressure and double tapped on the pencil and accidentally switched it to eraser mode. That shit gets me all the time! I still love the feature, but I accidentally switch way more than I'd like to.
Her: “this is really bad writing” me in middle school: *still doesn’t know how to draw in cursive* my face: 👁👄👁
Same
I struggle to write normally. :c
@@tootsayshihi8745 same lol, I only know how to write cursive but sometimes I can write normally ;-;
@@simplecooking2470 samee! Most of the time I write in cursive
@@softsparklez503 nice
This is the first video I’ve watched that actually helped me a lot with things I was very curious, like how to add text writing and pictures to an art work , I’ve got mine on Christmas 2022 but I kind of left it out after a few tries , but now I am going again for another try so thank you from South Australia 🇦🇺
I love how everyone uses a apple pen and me over here is using meh finger lol
Edit: hewo it’s future me
There are alternatives
I don’t use Apple Pencil cus it so expensive but I do hv a stylus
Cool!
They have a very cheap duplicate on Amazon i love it and it saved me alot of money
Same here
When she started talking about the opacity about that cat, you can go to layers and press the N and you can do the stuff over there too. :)
Thank you! The latest Procreate does not have the opacity where she shows in her video. And I havr been struggle to find it! But your comment helped me!
@MustBeNaomi here’s our solution!
You are such a lifesaver. I couldn’t find opacity anywhere!!😭😭🤣🤣💕💕
Or: open the layer menu and tap on the icon or letter next to the checkmark of the layer and a menu will open with opacity slider at the top.
This is very intriguing! Thank you! When I typed procreate into app for a search several popped up..which one are you using? Please....
Cj Lively procreate that cost 5 dollars, I hope that helped
Leah Lit that’s procreate pocket but procreate costs 9.99 :) basically 10
Miraculous Stories oh yeah sorry
Leah Lit it’s alright dw :) happens
Miraculous Stories really?!! mine costs 15 dollars!!!!
I love her reassurance and teacher like tone. its almost like Dora where there's a interactive kind of feeling. great vid this helped a lot
I see people drawing a circle free hand and it turns into a perfect circle automatically- is that using this app?
Yes if you draw a shape then when you finish keep your pen/finger still for a moment then it’ll turn perfect
Can this still work if u don’t have a pen?
frozesprinkles unicorn yup it seems to work for me
Robert.S thanku x
how did RUclips know I’m saving up for an iPad Pro 😳
Destiny Croucher same
lol
pastel vibes playz the goverment
@Destiny Croucher I have an iPad pro
Idk what i have i just have an apple ipad idk which though
I just got procreate and felt so lost. Thanks to this video I feel so much better. Thank you so much.
I know this comment is super old but what size would you recommend?
It is now on the layer are tool to the right click on it and open and double-tap with two fingers on the layer your on and it will open or click on the N symbol to do in inside the setting layer itself.
ty so much!
Uhm I just got procreate and I’m wondering if there is ane eye dropper? Like to copy a colour.
I believe if you press and hold above the specific colour it will copy it onto your brush
The little square on the left side between the sliders is for that
This was super helpful! I have been using Ibis Paint for YEARS and I finally wanted to try Procreate. At first I didn’t like it because it’s so different and I couldn’t figure it out! Thank you for all the tips I believe I will keep trying!!
I can’t express how helpful this was lol
