Jay SonyAlphaLab Jay is there a problem with the imaging app and the iPhone. I have called Song about 4 times and the last time I called the guy shot me a bunch of bull and lied to me. I cannot get my photos transferred. I have gotten some help from Sony and were able to transfer the photos but it goes right back to not connecting.
I'm so annoyed by the switch from PlayMobile to Imaging Edge.The former worked perfectly all the time, but the new one is a pain!

Yes, I hear your frustration and really wish Sony would figure this out. I must say, with my Galaxy 8 I have not had any issues for what I use the feature for however, but I feel I am one of the lucky ones ;) All I do is when in playback mode on the camera I find a photo I want then press the share button. I then open the Imaging Edge app and select the scan QR Code option and my phone camera turns on. I then scan the camera which is now displaying the code and it copies the photo over. I was just doing this with the new A600 last night. Once I scanned the QR code once the Sony A6600 is now in the app as a liked camera. So now when I hit the share button on the camera I just need to select the a6600 on the imaging edge app. I did not mess with any settings on the camera either, this is out of the box. I totally understand this is not how it works for everybody though, which sucks! The older cameras clearly do not work like this...

The former was horrible, hence the new app.
Maya Flanary Yes, the system is hard to get used to. I have a cheap Android Tracfone and since I had trouble with scanning the QR code on my FDR-X3000 (it is inside the battery door) I instead, manually entered the SSID number on the app screen. This allowed me to connect to the action cam. Then, I was able to use the Tracfone as the controller of the camera. It showed me what the camera was seeing and to control the zoom, etc. The initial set up did take some time to make happen. I had to wait awhile for things to happen, that’s for sure. It seemed that just as I was about to give up, then the screen would change and my faith in the world was renewed. 😁

What app should I use
This app has been breaking my heart all week, I have tried everything, double checked, installed, uninstalled. Absolute rubbish by Sony. Spending my hard earned cash on a decent camera but I'm back to hooking up usb leads to my pc,- terrible. I should have stuck with Canon, smooth and problem free wifi transfer of pics from cam to phone. Shocking tech failure

4 years on and it is still the best training video for using IEM. Blown away by the smartphone control which I achieved. Now need to get GPS sorted through iphone linkage
For some reason when i connect my a6300 with my samsung note 20 ultra i dont get that many options with smart remote feature i only get shutter button. Im using sigma 30mm

I had this app in my iPhone and it worked not easily but it worked. Now , after an update was made to the app , it does not work in my iPhone any more. Now it is impossible for me to use the camera with my iPhone. . I was told by the representative of Sony that my phone is not supported. So be careful when you buy Sony camera. It may work in the beginning but not any more after a while.

@@dionthacreator3499 I have an a5000 and iPhone 8plus. The photo transfer used to work fine but when the phone was upgraded to iOS 13, it no longer works, no matter all the steps I have followed directly from Sony when I contacted them. So very frustrating!
Care to explain why the sharpness / quality greatly decreases when I transfer the images to my phone? The photos are really crisp on the camera screen.. (I had all photo transfer settings at the highest..)
I have not noticed much loss in detail myself when transferring photos other than the severe decrease in resolution. The app is really meant for getting proxy copies of the images on your phone, so you can easily share via email or social media. It's really not meant for transferring original copies as it turns out. Frustrating I know... I suggest using a memory card reader attachment for your phone or tablet and then you can just transfer full resolution originals. They are cheap and ultra compact on Amazon these days like this unit for example: amzn.to/2MQ9Ljs

I’ve been reverse engineering my memory cards when I Fill them then changing the format to quantum computing and once the Qbits collapse they are “mined” into Non-fungible tokens, and then I just hit print
To transfer videos it works by recording videos using MP4 mode instead of AVHCD.
MP4 is compatible on smartphone
Hmmmm ... tried to configure my phone & camera and it worked ... once. Spent hours trying everything, uninstaling, reinstalling, rebooting, etc to no avail. The software sucks and just doesn't work with my Sony ZV1 & Samsung S20 Ultra. I'll use a card reader instead.
I card reader is way easier overall I would say if you just want to transfer the photos fast with zero problems...
I had to give up and delete this app from my phone because because it requires one to log into an account so I tried to create an account but it says my email address is invalid so I could not proceed any further and deleted the app.
Your you tube was awesome - my question/concern is that when using either camera or app. - i am taking one picture but it is triplicating each picture, so when i upload to my android or to snapfish i have to delete 2 of every picture, what am i doing wrong? :(
It sounds like you have some sort of bracketing mode enabled. Make sure the camera is set to single shot in the drive mode area...

I'm having so much trouble with this. I just got this camera. its such a pain in my butt!! i use it to record my video tutorials. when i try to send the videos to my phone, it gets to about 70% done and then i get an error code, "could not obtain image". my videos are less than 5 minutes each. I used to record 30 minute videos and then transfer to my phone no problem with the canon gx7 mark III. the reason i returned the canon was because the focus was terrible.
Yeah, well this app is unfortunately not that good depending on the phone and camera combo. I would recommend transferring using an SD card adapter for the phone instead.
@@Jason_Hermann I have a Galaxy Note 20 so it's a good quality phone. I am currently loading my videos into my laptop. then I connect my phone to my laptop and transfer over. I actually don't mind doing this since I noticed it's way faster (5x faster) than the app. I love the quality of the camera and how easy it is to use. thanks for replying!
Hi, Jay. Could you please help me out? I've been trying all sorts of thing with my configurations on my Samsung Note 8, and my Sony a6000, but for the life of me, I can't seem to find the "control with smartphone" feature on my Sony camera...
Good tutorial Jay , i would agree with you mate , these wireless camera apps are still not as intuitive as they could be , especially for those of us in community that are not all that tech savvy .
i remember using the one for my Nikon camera a few years ago , and while i got it to do the job , it was a fair effort to work it all out and again not overly UI friendly , and i never used it again .
Thinking about how maybe manufacturers could improve on this system , just throwing an idea outside of the box ,
Wouldnt it be good if the day you get your new proper camera , and during setting it up and entering your usual details in and normal camera settings , you also entered the details for your phone including some sort of ID number assigned to the wireless frequency or bluetooth or something ,
then once all set up , in the future when you hit the transfer button next to the camera screen a box popped up with the menu with "what items do you wish to transfer to device ID No. XXXXx " ,
You click on the selection , click on enter and in three clicks the camera connects to your phone and downloads the pics , bang done .
That is how i imagine it would work anyway .
Unfortunately for those of us that are not tech savvy , or just dont have great recall because we are old farts (thats me ) or are just a bit thick(also me :) ) , some of these apps are still a bit like hard work , and that becomes moreso if you only get to go out snapping pics on odd occasions .
I suppose really for it to become idiot proof and just plain easy to operate , both the camera companies and the phone makers would have to come together and put a concerted effort into making a better system.
I often think about the user friendliness of devices when i`m buying phones and cameras , which does seem weird given i bought an A73 menu system and all :) , but it would pay divid ends for these companys to go the extra mile and make them more user friendly in all ways including connectivity , because more people will buy their products ..

All the features are not available on all the cameras. Your camera is a bit older these days, so it's very limited with this app unfortunately.
I have an RX100 m7 and I love that camera. But when it comes to transferring pictures to the phone, I get frustrated. Compared to my Olympus camera and app, Sony is light years behind in user-friendliness.

Any idea why my videos audio is not supported (nor will it playback) when using the app to send video files over to my s8+? A6400 being used. I can get the videos audio using VLC, but cannot figure out how to get them posted to IG. And help would be greatly appreciated. TIA
No, I have the same problem. I had to use VLC to hear the audio and I can't figure out how to get the videos on IG from my computer/ "real camera" either. It's something I need to figure out though for sure!

Hi I am chasing a solution on how to use bulb mode for over the 30 seconds without touching the camera. cn you help with a solution at all. I use a sony a7r and 7iii. Your help would be appreciated.
You need a remote or cable release to use bulb mode as far as I know without touching the camera. I have never tried to use the app and remote control function for that purpose, but I would no be surprised if it worked or did not work. You must be in manual mode to use bulb mode, and then scroll past 30 seconds to enable bulb mode... Please let me know how you make out!
Why do i not have the same screens and options? I used to be able to control my camera via the old app. I dont have the option 'control with smartphone' on the a6300
I was using a different camera than you. On the camera itself in the Network area is where the control w/ Smartphone option is on my A6400. I'm not 100% sure about the A6300 though...
Instagram wont upload my vids from my samsung 10se, that i transferred from my sony alpha 7 III but it will go to Fb right away..🤔
Instagram has some weird formatting restrictions and video length limits. I'm not sure what the current format requirements are, but you can find it with a search.
Before the update, iOS 13 and earlier version of the app (Sony Play Memories), it was a perfect solution for transfering all of my images (RAW files), but after that, this stupid app limits output to 2MP, even though it’s set to copy originals. I only realised that a couple of days ago, when I wiped the card (thanks to Sonys’ safe wipe) a couple of times already. Now I’m left with 2MP photos on my phone with no option to recover those full suzed RAW photos. This alp is totally useless to me now, I’ve uninstalled it already and I’ll be switching camera systems. Just my 2 cents. Hopefully I save someone from the same misery as me.

No, you can't transfer raw files with hits app unfortunately.

This app is awful ! Why Sony can't produce a modern easy app is beyond me .
They can, they just don't in my opinion.... They do make a pro app, but you have to pay for it and it's only for the commercial grade cine gear for the most part....
"Forget Network" is a crazy thing to do, especially if you have a crazy 20 digit password (like me :)
Android 10 and 11 have the option to simply disconnect from the network (I have a Pixel 2 XL and Pixel 4a, so I get those OS updates ;), which is much preferred to "forgetting" your network
I wish you had used the manual mode, but I'm sure I'll figure it out. My camera doesn't arrive until tomorrow. I'm stoked

Only when using a few cameras can you change the focus point from the app via touch. The A7S III I believe can do it currently. I have no idea why Sony does not open this feature up to all the cameras, because it would really help them in the long run I think....

I'm honestly not sure. It works on ,y A7C now after the app updated, but I don't know about the A9. According to the compatibility chart here: support.d-imaging.sony.co.jp/www/cscs/pmm/products.php?area=gb&lang=en it looks to be the same as the A7C, so I think it will work, but can't say for sure...

Getting below error when trying to import photos in my android phone (Samsung s21 Ultra)
Also the picture quality reduce in phone
"A RAW image captured in RAW & HEIF mode becomes a 2M HEIF image if the image is transferred at a 2M size or the camera does not support RAW image transferring.
You cannot copy HEIF images because they cannot be viewed on Android Smartphones. You may not be able to play Videos properly, depending on the smartphone model you use.

Yes, you can't transfer raw files with the app, only jpegs will be created and transferred at a lower resolution. If you shoot jpeg you can transfer full size images though...

Good review of the app. There are some functions in the app I never used but I will now. Have you tried to connect to separate sony cameras with the app? Not at the same time but using one app for 2 different cameras?
Thank you and yes I had the Sony A6400 and the Sony RX100 VII and used the app for both. I just needed to rescan the QR code each time and it just worked for me on my Samsung S8 phone. I could not have both cameras hooked up at the same time though.
I love my A7iii but am honestly embarrassed at how bad this functionality is compared to Nikon and Canon equivalents. For a large technology company like Sony, this is far below par. The developer of it should be fired.

You need to download the VLC video player for your phone and that should fix the problem.
How can you set your focus point though the app? Is this not possible?
No, as of now I can't set the focus point on phone using my Sony A6400 via the app.

Imaging Edge Mobile is a complete crap, it doesn't connect to my A7RIV now. But when it did - it does not support focus by touch. CRAP, FU SONY

Hey hi... I bought Sony a6400 recently..I filmed few vedios.. but when I want to transfer the vedio files from camera to phone / PC.. vedio is transferred but without volume.. I mean muted vedio. But It is audible in camera.. pls help me out...
Yeah, I had the same problem. I downloaded the VLC player for my phone and the audio worked in that program for me. That is the only work around I know of...

I edit all my videos on my MacBook Pro using Final Cut Pro.

I recently updated from an Samsung 8 to a 10. No changes were made on the camera Sony Alpha 6000. Best Buy did the normal updating information on my new phone.
Now it will NOT transfer images from camera to new phone. I keep getting this error message: "Something came up. The application has cancelled the request to choose a device." I've spoken to Best Buy about the camera where I purchased it from and the new phone, also purchased from Best Buy. They attempted to re-install Imaging Edge w/o success. They have suggested the S10 may have a glitch. I just got off the phone with Sony with apps that are supposed to fix the problem. I've completed as directed. Issue not resolved.

I'm sorry I don't know Pat. I have the Samsung 8 and a older iPad that work fine. Some phones however do not seem to work unfortunately. The only thing I can think of is some kind of security setting on the newer phone might be preventing the camera from connecting?
Would you please help? I sent/copied the video to my phone but there's no volume. How do I realize this issue. The video is on my phone but has no volume despite it being on the highest note.

When displaying the remote functionaly on the phone, I don't have "apperature" or "shutter speed" options available.. The only paramater that i can change through the phone screen is EV ... I am on sony a6500? Any Idea was is this happening? (phone galaxy s8)

Turns out the issue is with my Oneplus 7Pro, Because I was able to connect just find with my older phones.
The problem is that when you wifi photos your quality is downloaded to 400kb-800kb no matter what setting you choose, vga, original or 2m - you need a fucking computer not a shitty iPhone -
You have to shoot in Jpeg mode to get original files. Or Raw + Jpeg... If you shoot in RAW then it just makes low res versions unfortunately.

@@Jason_Hermann Hi Jay-- I have Imaging Edge Mobile ver. 7.7.2 on my iPhone. I can't find any settings within the app regarding automatic transfer. And the only mention of it on the Sony websites is that automatic background transfer is one of the features of the app.
I been using the app bc I like using my phone as a monitor but not like this!! This is a whole new lvl, I learned a lot today. Thx for the new tips! And keep the videos coming 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Did this app for some reason limit many functions? I don't have many of these things. Holding to focus doesn't work either. How do you focus using the app?

@@catarodriguez2264 I figured out the app focuses automatically when you press the shutter button, however, focus does not work at all if you have set up the camera for back button focus.
Is it possible to shoot remotely with your phone a RAW file or just JPG?
Yes, you can shoot raw, raw + jpeg, or jpeg remotely. Transfering raw files is not an option though...

The rapid fire mode aka continuous shooting is completely missing as an option on iPhone Image Edge. Any reasons as to why this is? I'm using Sony a6000 btw

I still can not get my phone to connect to my a6000 , the app is asking to scan my NFC or QR code of the camera, non of these works, tere is no way to get my QR code visible on the screen. What else can I do ? when I had my old sony app everything was working just fine. Thank you.
I'm honestly not sure Chris. Did you try directly connecting by pressing the line above scan with qr code? If you turn on the cameras wifi, you should be able to connect that way as well which is different than using the qr code.
I have the same issue... The point is that I can't see QR code on the screen...I have an a6000 and RX100 iii, probably the software is older. We must wait for the app’s update

Control with smartphone option cannot be seen in Sony a7ii and Sony rx100iii. Is this option only available in latest models? Or any updates are needed for these cameras?

Using an a6400 - Have problems connecting every time... Just so frustrated. Just want to remotely control the camera with iPad/phone but need to look it up every time because the previous set up collapses. I really can’t explain how a company like Sony can produce such a shit user experience application. It is a minor issue/rare use case, but it is driving me insane. Seriously considering ditching Sony over this,eventhough I love the camera itself.
Are you using the QR code? It literally works for me almost every time with my a6400. I hear ya though, the app is a bit of a pain at times. @@Jason_Hermann it works with QR code with an Android device after a couple of tries. (not via selecting the internal wifi though) iPad sometimes works sometimes doesn't (QR and WiFi). What drives me insane is that I can't see the pattern of what is causing the problem.
@@schnappueber Yeah, that is what I was thinking might be the issue. The pattern.... Sometimes if your device is connected to another wi-fi it might not want to switch to the cameras, which is why the QR code works so well usually. So you need the phone or iPad to connect to the cameras wi-fi network at the end of the day. When I take a photo when I'm out and I want to push it to my Samsung, it works almost every time. Every once and a while the connection fails and I just try again and it works the second time. Remote controlling the camera seams to work a bit different for some reason. I'm not sure if that is because it connects both blue tooth and wi-fi or what. Now that my A6400 is programmed into my phone, I can usually just click that in the app and it will connect to the camera strait away. I know it's frustrating, but perhaps try a few times in a row to see if you can figure out what is going on. For example if you connect once then disconnect by turning the camera off for example, does it reconnect with no issue the next time if you do it straight away? If so, it might just be the phones wi-fi not switching.... And I do agree, the App is not near as good as it should/ could be. However, after years of using it, I no it's not perfect, but it still works pretty darn good for its limited intended purpose when I use it. All the best, Jay

Hi Jason, I am using this apps for a while and I really enjoy using it as a remote when my camera is still on a tripod. My Question is : why can't we use the focus point on the phone screen ! It used to work, I could choose where to place the area I wanted but not anymore and I wonder if it is something to do with the settings in the camera. It's so annoying to have to press the camera screen to choose the focus point. Hope you can help me. Thanks for your care.
I normally use back button focus on A73. To get app to focus as demonstrated, I needed to turn ON AF w/Shutter (Menu 1; 6/14)

I have a older phone and tablet which will not work with this app. Having to use the app called Sony smart cam remote not brilliant but it works just.

I have a Sony A6500 and a Samsung Galaxy 8 phone and have been using the PlayMemories app. After very much trouble connecting initially, I have been using the app to geotag my photos and it worked reasonably good. Not perfect.
When I now realized that the phone app was no longer available, I installed the Imaging Edge app on the phone (in the camera it's still called PlayMemories).
I was able to connect once, but now it will not connect. And.... Do I have to go through this procedure every time I want to transfer som pictures?
And you say this is very simple? Are you serious?
If Sony cannot make it any better, they should leave it to someone else. (Even the names suck! "Play Memories" and "Imaging Edge". Give me a break.)

I'm puzzled, why have Sony just released an app they clearly developed in 1983? No background transfer unless you have one of their top range Pro cameras and install an extra app, no EXIF/IPTC editing, no onwards FTP, constantly disconnects and refuses reconnect. So many button presses to do so very little, badly. A total embarrassment for Sony. Heading back to Nikon next time.
Sound advice but I have a problem after mobile was factory reset in that I can connect smart phone to camera to transfer images, but it will not connect to camera for remote control. Before factory reset I successfully installed the Imaging Edge app to use remote control from the mobile. Now it will not connect. Camera is remembered by phone after I had setup for image transfer, but when I try and connect I can select the RX100 from the camera list, asks for password, which is pre-set, then it just sits there whirring Connecting... until it gives and says Wi-Fi could not be established, asking if camera is powered, and if camera body is set to connect to smartphone via wi-fi. I have gone through the usual steps for the latter, and despite steps to enter password being correctly followed ..... no successful connection is achieved. As I say, all this stuff with Imaging Edge worked as expected, bit the phones Factory Reset has somehow foiled all attempts now. Any ideas?
Do you have a tutorial of the way to pair it? I have paired it with my mobile phone, don't even know how cause I have tried all the possibles way and it finally got it, but know I am trying with my tablet it's just impossible, the tablet recognized the camara wifi but when I try to connect to it it doesn't work... I obviously disconnect it from the smartform, but no way... I am wondering if it is a problem with the camara wifi, cause sometimes it connects quite fast and sometimes there is no way to connect anything. I have been through Sony support, tutorials, and stuff and still nothing... :/.
I just want to set it up, ONCE, and have every photo I take on my camera automatically transfer to my phone without any further input from me. Seriously, how hard can that be in 2022?! I paid £1800 for a Sony camera that has all the ergonomics of a VCR from 1988 - with WiFi capabilities to match.
The app used to work with my iPhone X and Sony aR 111. I’ve just bought an iPhone 14 pro and I can’t connect the phone to the camera via WiFi or Bluetooth. Have contacted Sony support and they went through all the settings, using QR code and still wouldn’t connect. Sony now saying they can’t guarantee the 2 will connect - does that mean iPhone 14 isn’t supported and it might be in time? Can’t get any further info.
I’ve noticed my aR 111 has Sony memories - does it need Image edge on the camera as well as the phone to work? Any advice appreciated!

my sony alpha a7ii connects to my iPad pro fine but refuses to connect to my google pixel 3 for whatever reason. not the end of the world, as I'm glad it connects with the tablet, but I wanted my phone connected too so I would have something pocket-sized when I go out for shoots. I've tried everything from uninstalling the app off my phone to restarting my phone and the camera, forgetting the networks consistently. does anyone with a similar setup have a solution of some sorts?

For Sony, its the most unfriendly stupid software!!!!!! Here every time i need photo's or video on my mobile its a 1/2 day trying untill it works. Realy the first price in the most bad software for camera's.
