KFX50/90, DVX50/90 or Mongoose 50/70/90 Manual choke carb conversion

- Hopefully this video is helpful to anyone looking to convert their Kawasaki KFX, KFX90, Arctic Cat DVX50, DVX90 or Kymco Mongoose 50, 70 or 90 ATV to a manual choke carb with adjustable idle mixture. Want to rejet your stock carb? (I’m testing different combinations now so stay tuned)
After dealing with carburetor issues on both my son and daughter’s ATVs I started to research replacements. Unfortunately there wasn’t as much information as I expected.
I was lucky enough to find this bolt in carburetor here:

The carburetor comes with factory sized jets for a 2007 and up 90cc machine which are 40 and 80. After trying a few combinations, the one that worked the best for me were the factory jets from a 2006 Arctic Cat DVX90 which are a 40 pilot and a 95 main jet. The new jets can be ordered here:

Please note that you MUST transfer the needle from the new carburetor onto your machine. The slide, cable, top set and everything else will work with the new carburetor except the needle. If you do not change the needle, your machine will not run. The best clip setting for me was 2nd from the lowest position.
(If you have a 50cc machine your ATV will most likely have a size 40 pilot jet and a sized 85-95 main jet depending on the year. I will be testing a few jet sizes on the 50cc machine and will create a separate video with the results.)

Thank you for this video. I'm new to carbs and was replacing one on my kid's 70cc today. I had my choke understanding backwards. plus my choke plate closed all the way, killing the quad. cheers man. This explained every question i had

That air screw is adjustable. You need a special tool. Otherwise take it out with tweezers and Dremel a slot in it. The PZ19 is a piece of crap. The stock Keihin is better. What is the problem with the auto enrichers you had? Did they either stick open or stick closed? Because mine seems to work but it always has a gurgle at a quarter throttle transitioning from pilot to needle circuit. I've tried all kinds of jets and needle tapers
I changed out the emulsion tube with the main jet. If the emulsion tube is from the factory carb wouldn't you want to keep the factory needle as well?

Yes. Prior to the conversion I used to do this too. It worked for me except when it was below freezing.

I have a Kymco 90 and trying to do the manual choke conversion. I have ordered a PZ19 but it is not a direct swap, the cap from the old throttle cable assembly is larger than the body on the PZ19 and does not fit. Does anyone know what carb to order? Thanks
I wish I would have noticed your comment before I bought the carb in the video because now I have the exact problem you have described. Did you find a fix for this issue, such as a different throttle cable possibly. I haven't been able to find one.

@@brianboudreau690 Hey Brian thanks for replying back. I was looking at the same one also thinking along the same lines. I don't want the 65 bucks or whatever it was we spent to go up in smoke so I hope it does work out. The stock carb was so disgusting on the quad that I tried to clean it butits not even getting fuel to the bowl. If the throttle cable doesn't work I probably will buy a ultrasonic cleaner and try to clean up the stock carb. I'm keeping fingers crossed that the universal cable works for ya. I will be anxious to hear your results lol.
Did you have any success with the throttle cable install on the Kymco?
@@justinhogan7248 its not going well, the carb would not bolt up to the intake, i need to check it out further, but as of right now i would say this is not a good project to take on
Are your machines 2 or 4 stroke?
I thought 4 stroke but now I'm not 100%
They are 4 stroke
Put chinese pz19 carb in them and they will run . Pz19 is 15 on Amazon

This will work on a Mongoose 70s?
I’m so disappointed with my mongoose 90 I bought brand new last summer , it will run for a while and then the battery goes dead, took back to dealer in Strafford mo and they kept it 3 weeks and never called me i ways had to call even when they said we will call you , they said they couldn’t find the problem ! Now it won’t start again, I’ll never buy another
I have noticed if I shut the machine off with the run switch and leave the key in the on position the battery will drain. If I shut the machine off with the key the battery does not drain. Hopefully this helps you.
No offense man, but this is a pretty horrible video. You don’t show any of the actual removal or installation. Very vague.
