I always wondered how that worked. I had to fit a new carb to my quad and from watching your video I could see that the old carb choke had never worked. Thanks for such a great and clear explanation of the system.
Many years ago, Frigidaire refrigerators that had an ice dispenser in the freezer door had a device like this that opened the chute door so ice could pass out into a cup. Frigidaire called the device a "hot wax motor". - - In that application it was powered by 120 volts AC here in America. They were reasonably dependable. - - Thanks for your videos.
I was scratching my head off figuring out how it works. On disassembly i found a metal coated disc sandwitched between two wires. I thought it was a piezoelectric device which would only work on certain voltage and frequency. Now i know that it was just a heating element which would melt and expand the wax inside the copper housing pushing the plunger outward.
I love your engine examples. 150 cc, Model IP57QMJ. I have a Xinba in a 2018 IceBear Cyclone trike. Doesn't burn a drop of oil, and even though I have to warm the One Cylinder up to stay running, the 80 miles to the gallon and at 3/4 throttle it's going a smooth 50+, with 11 or 12 grams rollers, gets off fast, then ease it along up to fifty.
7.5 ohms on mine. Also same on another vid. Mine has a ballast resistor. Yours may not Manufacturer may use higher ohms instead of resister to limit current. Like you stated, there are differences between applications. I would say one is good down to maybe 4 ohms. Check to see if there is movement in a couple mniutes when voltage we is applied
So if one is having trouble starting their engine on a cold day, removing the whole unit will help the starting since the plunger inside may be stuck in the extended position. Removing the unit will act as though the plunger is retracted.
Is it safe to apply DC voltage to this since it is powered by the yellow wire, directly from the stator AC output? The wiring diagrams also shows that it has a resistor/diode in the ground side of the wiring from the enrichment valve. Thanks for the video.
When my scooter warms up after a few minutes of riding it's power output seems to falter. Barring all other possibilities Would this be an indication of a faulty choke?
Sounds like carburetor issues. You can try removing the choke and covering the holes with a metal plate. If the problem goes away, then the choke is the problem. Make sure you warm up the engine, or remove the choke on a warm day, otherwise it will be hard to start up the engine.

My scooter only starts when it is cold. And after it warms up and dies I struggle to start it and i can smell lot of gas. Also when i get it to start it it idles get worse and eventually stalls. could it be the enricher giving to mucch fuel and not closing the gap
My TaoTao 50cc scooter has been really hard to start after 1 yr ownership. I live in FL in a warm environement. When cranking cold, it fires and putts once or twice before dying, I time having to roll it down the driveway, tickling the throttle until it goes due to the engaging of the autobelt/clutch as it catches.. After it tries to die as I give it gas into a corner, it'll rev up and after 3-4 minutes of continuous running, no issues starting or idling anymore. I pulled the automatic enricher out and measured like you did. It's 3/4" cold.. When I turn on the key, it does not move so I assume that the scooter has to be started before the pin will expand down? I use nothing but 100% gas (no 10% ethanol mix). I don't think the automatic enricher is bad. Maybe a carb jet or air/fuel adjustment at cold start? What are your thoughts? Thanks!

So.. but I guess I will find out tomorrow when I do the conversion. If the choke . Hopefully it will fix the no start/ hard start issue . Plus I'm thinking it may be the valve lash settings as well with the inricher . Them together causing that same issue . But I'm going to check and rest the valves when I do the electric choke conversion . Wish me luck. Everyone . Have a. Hell of a night tonight don't get into any trouble 😵💫

I pull to the side of the road and starts back up again. Drive it again for about 20 feet then loses power then dies again.. seems to be losing power and die when it gets hot? Any ideas?
+ItBseCtioN8 Hi. Because it is non-adjustable. The only thing you can do is take a high wattage/low ohm ceramic resistor and connect it in series with one of the wires leading to the enricher. Doing this was result in the enricher taking longer to fully extend. Thanks For Watching
electronicsNmore I watched you're video about the GY6 enricher, but can you tell me which of the wires (Green or Yellow) is the + and -, Thanks Greetings Frans
The headlight and enricher operate using AC off the stator. The enricher will also work using DC as shown in the video. The enricher is a resistive device which creates heat in order to expand wax driving the piston outward. Should work fine no matter how you connect it up. The yellow wire is normally connected to the yellow wire from the stator.
Thomas Flynn Hi Thomas. The automatic choke gets power from the stator once the engine is started. AC voltage is supplied to the enricher. The enricher works with both AC and DC. Thanks. Be sure to share my videos with others, and rate Thumbs Up.
@@thomasflynn642 Search in youtube how to change scooter belt and you'll see a lot of videos about it. When you take off the cover on the left side where the crank start is (easy to remove) you'll see how it looks. Perhaps your belt broke, which is why it won't move. The clutch is on the rear wheel, which you will see when you remove the cover.
My enricher itself works fine, it extends/retracts normally, O-ring is good on it, but my idle doesn't increase when I first start it in colder weather. Idle is the same as when it is warmed up. Blew some air into the channels and they are both clear. What can make the fast idle not work when cold ? I removed the enricher altogether with a plate and there is no difference, but the scooter runs fine when warm, just no higher idle when I start it.
+Red Pyramid Hi there. The enricher is used to to adjust the fuel/air mixture when the engine is first started up(Like a choke). The engine will run at a higher RPM until it warms up.
So what needs replaced if the resistance is only 7 ohms when we are testing the auto choke? We're troubleshooting a Helix 150cc go kart that starts up fine, runs great for a bit, and then starts bogging down/won't go after it gets hot.
Ok.. Let me see if i understand.. This Valve is not a thermostat, when you turn on the bike the Valve needle start to go outside for about two minute, the needle function is to stop air flow and slow down the motor revolution.. The needle will stay in his same position while the engine is on (There´s not fluctuation, the voltage will stay constant at 12 V on his terminals), when you turn off the engine the Needle back to the inside position.. I am Right? if so, i just only connect one cable to ground and another to some cable that depend of the Start voltage after use the Bike Switch on "ON".. I just need to know that for make it myself.. Thanks for any help :)

Having a problem with cold idle on my 49cc scooter. When it first fires up it runs ok for a few seconds then the idle goes up and down and usually stalls. If I touch the throttle at all, it stalls out and is difficult to start again. Could this be a choke problem or a mixture problem? I just bought the scooter in May of 2014. Once it's warmed up it runs fine.
Im having an issue...so mine starts right up... idles low and dirs as soon as u give it an type of throttle...carb is clean and fuel bowl is filled. If i detach vacumm line idle goes way up... any ideas people ?
Hi,i have question, about how the the choke get power...I mean i tested on the mmeter show it goes up and down, each time i throttle the gas, theres no set volt to it..I thought it would be a straight 12 volt to it
It gets power from the stator on the crankshaft. As you throttle up the engine spins faster and the stator will produce a higher voltage. It isn't powered from the battery so no fixed voltage. It makes sense tho because if your engine is throttled up then it'll warm up faster so needing less time with the choke on.

+Tom Hufford Hello Tom. You can try ruling out enricher leaks by making a small plate to cover up the holes out of sheet copper from a hobby shop to go between the carburetor body and enricher base that the enricher pushes into. Once reassembled remove the enricher and give it a try. Also inspect the intake manifold for cracks/leaks and valve adjustment according to my other video. Thanks For Watching
@@electronicsNmore I have to do it because I put a new carb with echoke. Do you know if I can take a constant current from the key ... will the choke return the needle, or stay in the open position?

It runs fine when started however, aside from a foul smell of rich gas coming from exhaust. From what I know, the carburetor is clean, new oils/gas. Oddly, turning the air/fuel screw seems to do nothing in regards to RPM. What can be the problem? I've been told to check compression but I don't have the tools for that.
I have a similar issue except once I warm it up I go to drop it off the kickstand and just loose all power then dies out once the back tire hits the ground.. Hi Ross. Power for the enricher usually comes off the stator. Thanks for watching! Be sure to look over my GY6 video playlist below and share.

In my situation my electronic choke is closed and will not return to open for the next start.l have to start it and keep revs up until warm and then it runs perfect.
sir im from Philippines i also have a gy6 engine and dtype carburator as well but in the morning i need to add a lil bit of throttle to it for it to start and warm up what you think is the problem??
Could I use an electronic choke carb on a 4 speed 4 stroke pitty and would it really improve performance?
how should it be diven with on or off
are these things chasis ground?
I seen in 1 of your replys.. About a cracked intake manifold.. Mine has a small pice broke on the edge screws go in gasket covers looks like it still seals. Didnt think it would be a issue..
Use RTV sealant to ensure no leaks. Thanks for watching! Be sure to watch my "GY6" video playlist and share.

Im going to convert my inricher to manual choke tomorrow
Hope it works and solves my issue
How much the voltage chock coil supply.?
Aslo im wondering can it still work if its unpluged all together .
Cause I'm going to convert mine to manual choke so I was wondering. If that electrical plug can stay unplugged and still run on. . cause I'm asking different people and no one is giving a straight answer or doesn't know exactly. So.. but I guess I will find out tomorrow when I do the conversion.
Where does the wire on the scooter it's self go to? I have no power there and have been trying to trace down with no luck
To the stator
My scooter has a
spark but when I turn it on it does not hold at the minimum, that is to
say it goes off at the minimum and then I can not turn it on until the
other day ,,,, I think it is the carburetor thickly the electric choke
also called (throttle). What do you say friend?
My scooter won’t start first thing in the morning. If I wait a little later in the day it starts right up and runs fine. I live in Florida
Definitely a choke problem. See if it starts right up in the morning using starting fluid.

Hey... thanks for the videos, i have hard time to start my scooter on the morning. it take me about 10 to 15 min to get it start. (yes, it is only on the morning, afternoon is no problem to start the engine). any idea what is cause it?
Either a faulty enricher, faulty carb, or you need to adjust the valves.
electronicsNmore I
@@electronicsNmore not true you almost never adjust the valves.
@@arberfilms5998 Incorrect. The manual says how often.
@@electronicsNmore every engine I’ve owned I’ve never had to adjust valves. And they run exactly like new. What do you mean dude?
so every time you start the bike the choke comes till that slow valve opens?
Yes.
@@electronicsNmore my ch80 runs terrible when it first starts. Its way too rich. Once it runs for a minute or 2 it runs fine. Its like the auto choke is too effective. Is there a way to adjust it so it doesnt richen the mixture as much? I already cleaned the carb. Thanks
Hey... thanks for the videos. .. i got a Derbi Gp1 03 for our motor pacing on our rode bike ...the other day the motor stop working.. I check the ignition and is working, check for the spark the spark plug to the head, and is good spark.
then i move to the carb to see is gas was coming down and flow of gas was present. after all that I took the elect. choke but I didn't check the travel of the shaft ... what other cause can be creating the non start ...also I do have good compression
Hi! I have a 50cc CPI Oliver city.... I just replaced my carburetor with a new one ... it starts and runs fine... idles fine... but when I drive it for about 2 miles going 40 mph, I lose power then it dies. I pull to the side of the road and starts back up again. Drive it again for about 20 feet then loses power then dies again.. seems to be losing power and die when it gets hot? Any ideas?
Have you solved this problem?? Mine too
Not rich enough?
Why not show how to adjust it for duration ??... (screw in to make choke hi idle longer and screw out to make it hi idle shorter in time it's applied)
+ItBseCtioN8
Hi. Because it is non-adjustable. The only thing you can do is take a high wattage/low ohm ceramic resistor and connect it in series with one of the wires leading to the enricher. Doing this was result in the enricher taking longer to fully extend.
Thanks For Watching
Great vid

Hi. Do you ohm it out. Hot or cold ? Thank you. Bill
No. Just test as shown in the video.
electronicsNmore I watched you're video about the GY6 enricher, but can you tell me which of the wires (Green or Yellow) is the + and -, Thanks
Greetings

The headlight and enricher operate using AC off the stator. The enricher will also work using DC as shown in the video. The enricher is a resistive device which creates heat in order to expand wax driving the piston outward. Should work fine no matter how you connect it up. The yellow wire is normally connected to the yellow wire from the stator.
Thanks! I wondered how it worked!
What operates the automatic choke? Where does the power come from?
Thomas Flynn Hi Thomas. The automatic choke gets power from the stator once the engine is started. AC voltage is supplied to the enricher. The enricher works with both AC and DC.
Thanks. Be sure to share my videos with others, and rate Thumbs Up.
where is the stator? on crank shaft?
Alos, mine runs good but, when you sit on it it won't move? does it have a clutch in rear wheel or bearing?
You need to remove the CV cover to inspect the belt/clutch/variator.
Thanks.
Thanks! I did and no clutch
Sounds like a carb issue.
Might be out of adjustment. I'm trying to figure out mines now. U ever figure it out?
@@dmo848 Sold the scooter. Ran fine after 3 minutes of idling, just that the high idle didn't work when cold. Hope you figure your issue out.
i'm still learning, what does the enricher do?
+Red Pyramid
Hi there. The enricher is used to to adjust the fuel/air mixture when the engine is first started up(Like a choke). The engine will run at a higher RPM until it warms up.
But does it regulate only the fuel or only the air ( both ????!!!!)
So what needs replaced if the resistance is only 7 ohms when we are testing the auto choke? We're troubleshooting a Helix 150cc go kart that starts up fine, runs great for a bit, and then starts bogging down/won't go after it gets hot.
Joanna Morelandgyough
Hi.. There is not a wire diagram of it (Connections from it to the Stator)?
You can find schematics online.
Wonderful
Thank you
what a job OF that PART in the bike?
Thanks for watching. I don't know what you are trying to say.
thanks for ur reply me :)
i have joneway scoter , i asking u what is the jop of this part
Automatic Choke
?
This part makes the scooter run richer(more fuel) until the scooter has warmed up.
Thank you my brother, I understood now :)
hello there...my engine is Air cooled, and i want to fit an water cooled carb with this kind of choke...if it is possible tell me how to do the conectionn of choke...looking forward...tnx
Yeah im not sure. Never heared of that. I have a air cooled and a water cooled scooter the carb is not that much different
You should not have to touch the mixture screw. I would inspect the o-ring on the enricher, and if it is OK, then suspect a carb problem.
If I put my battery to it will my quad start up by kick ?
Use starting fluid.
Does the choke cell annoyed need to be greased in anyway?
No. Just make sure the enricher O-ring is not dried out/cracked. Lubricate it with silicone grease.
THANKS FOR INPUT.
Your Welcome.
My wires were cut on this I have no idea where wires connect there is a yellow and a green and black wire
Yellow wire is a positive or negative?
Yellow is usually the signal wire.
@@electronicsNmore Thats "+" ?? Thanks for answer.
@@electronicsNmore I need to change jack for my chocke because is not a same for new chocke and old, and i dont know what is positive +, i have the same like yours new choke with yellow and green wires.
Do you happen to know what the size of the o-ring is. I have a 2020 taotao blade 49cc.
No, but you should be able to try a few out. Look for one of the correct diameter that isn't too thick to keep it from going into position.
@@electronicsNmore today I went to a manufacturing wholesaler who sells O-rings and when she tried to match up the original o-ring she couldn't find the right size. When she measured it she said it doesn't exist especially in metric as that's what it is. I bought the next size bigger because the next size smaller would have been way to small. That's Japan's for you!

Hi man, with my 50cc scooter when i drive it cold in the morning like 8deg weather, it usually bogs when i drive it afternletyingnit idle for like 2mins bit it will be fine afterwards like no boggings when warm and very responsive. Is there a possibility that the auto choke is causing my carb to flood during that period that’s why it bogs like there’s too much gas from the choke?thanks
Definitely a carb or enricher issue.

Hello Tom.
I will give that a try.
Would the auto choke be going out?
You would need to remove it and test it.

hello, I want to put e choke on the scooter, but I have no factory installation for it .. can i take some alternating voltage for it .. ???
I don't recommend it.
@@electronicsNmore I have to do it because I put a new carb with echoke. Do you know if I can take a constant current from the key ... will the choke return the needle, or stay in the open position?
Tap into the wire for the running lights. They only light up once the engine is idling.
My scooter has been having a problem where it needs throttle for about 5 seconds to start and stay running without shutting off.
+HelixObscura
Sounds like a faulty enricher, faulty carb, or lastly a cracked plastic intake manifold elbow.
I have a similar issue except once I warm it up I go to drop it off the kickstand and just loose all power then dies out once the back tire hits the ground.. I just cleaned the whole carb like 4 times because I didn't do the pilot jet good enough each time so I'm confident the carb is clean also I can't find any obvious leaks any ideas where to start next? Thank you for your videos I find them to be most helpful, simple and direct.
Were does the green and black wire gk to from the auto choke on chineese moped
One goes to the stator, and the other to ground. AC is supplied to the enricher, not DC.
@@electronicsNmore Hi, newbie here, today I was doing general testing on autohoke using multimeter.

Try adjusting the roller weigh size. They could be too light.
