Q: What if the diagnostic test says the Hard Drive is not installed?
A: That error means the hard drive is either bad or loose. I would first try 'reseating' the Hard Drive. That is where you unplug it and then plug it back in, making sure its properly plugged in and secure. Try the scan again. If it still says that its not installed, then its most likely bad and needs to be replaced. You can see how to do that here; • How To Replace Hard Dr... . 3 beeps. Brighness was set to the lowest and i cant see anything apart from a black screen but i can run it in safe mode normally though.

Did the test, thank you! The problem for the beeps is the processor Fan... how do I change that?
You would have to replace the fan. Are you comfortable opening the computer up and replacing that part? You should look for a 'Teardown' or 'Disassembly' video on your exact model to help you get in there.
I have the exact model and diagnostic software shown in this video. I held the Fn key when I started up. It immediately went into the diag mode.
Are you able to run the diagnostics? Any errors found?
@@PC_Monkey I ran through a bunch of hardware diagnostics. Then I went into checking I'm not sure what. But it ran for a good 8 hours and I ran out of patience. So I canceled it. The issue I'm having is with the screen. It will freeze on what's on the screen then slowly pixilate until I flex the upper left corner of the screen. Its difficult to explain. It also does it when I rotate the screen on the hinges. So I'm fairly certain it's the ribbon. I bought one for 15 bucks.
@@PC_Monkey so I'm running the diagnostic again but specifically on the sata drive because performance is so slow. Wondering if I can defrag the drive. If so, what program do you recommend?

It beeps 7 times I hit the f12 as soon as I start it just like you say in the video and it will not go to that screen for me it just continues to beep

I have Dell Inspiron 5566 and every time I charge my laptop it says AC adapter is not recognized and it won’t charge my laptop. I took it to couple of computer repair shop. One said the power jack had gone bad and the other said battery had gone bad and they both gave me huge amount of estimate. I did the diagnostic test and the battery health seems to be fine. How do I know for sure what’s wrong with my laptop?

i"ve run this once or twice at the repair shop i work at but will make a note to run it on all Dells we get in. I'll also look to see if HP, Lenovo, and Asus have a similar pre-boot test available. Not sure what it's testing in the test "Memory Test Activity" starting at 2:12. It shows 4 separate tests for the 4 CPU cores (0-3) but RAM isn't usually associated with a specific CPU core. I guess it could mean 1 of 2 things, it could be testing NOT the RAM but the on-die CPU memory, but i doubt that. It could be that the test really is testing the RAM and that the software was designed to run 4 separate threads simultaneously to speed things up - and I tend to believe that but would like to hear it from Dell--unless you already know the answer. Not sure about the specific tests. Never looked that deep into it im afraid. sry :( I know that HP has a very similar test software and some models of Lenovo. I have not run across an Acer or Asus with anything like this however

Sounds like you need to replace the battery then. Where were the errors detected? Also, what issue are you looking to solve by running this diagnostic test / What is wrong with your computer?
Question. I know it's not the right video but I know you'll see this. I have the same laptop shown here and I'm upgrading from the 1000 wifi card to the dual band with Bluetooth 6230. I found a driver for the new card. Can I just download it and run it or do I need to delete the old driver?
The new driver should just override the old one. But to be safe, I always try to uninstall the old one :)

Well presented; thank you for sharing. I would like to get your perspective on an issue I have with my Dell laptop Inspiron 15-7569 running windows 10. I have a set of external Bose speakers that buzz at the level of my volume setting. This does not happen when playing a video. If I pause the video the buzzing returns. However, if I open settings and select Sound and leave the Sound settings box open the buzz does not happen whether I am pausing a video or not playing a video at all. With the settings box left open operation is normal.
I have contacted Microsoft, Bose, and Dell. To date nothing they have offered has resulted in a resolution. When I move the speakers to another computer the problem does not follow the speakers; so only on my laptop. Any ideas on what may be going on, or steps I might take to resolve this issue?
Very weird issue. Never seen that before. Have you tried moving the speakers further away from the computer?
@@PC_Monkey Hi, Thanks for considering this. On your suggestion I moved the speakers to full wire length; about three feet. They still aren't happy. This began many months ago after a major update to windows ten. I hoped subsequent updates would correct things, but so far no change.

What I can't get my head around is that if it's a hardware issue, of some sort, why do the speakers work just fine when the Windows Sound setting box is left open? And if I minimize the Sound setting window the buzzing returns; the Sound setting window must be open for the speakers to operate correctly. That is the mystery and it seems to suggest a software problem.

If this is a software issue I am at a dead end as to what to do. I would hate to buy new external speakers and still have the problem if it is indeed a software issue. I have DELL Inspiron 13 7000. It does not even show F12 boot options. It beeps 3 times in a loop then makes another noise and again 3 beep sounds. The keyboard lights come on when turning on. The ram is attached to the board, so is not possible for me to take out and try to see If the problem is with the ram. Any idea how may I fix it? Thanks in advance!

I have a Dell Laptop with Windows 10 build 1607. Week ago, it acted strangely. It freezes after login in but there is the desktop display. For now, my computer is running in safe mode, which mean the OS isn't the issue but the fact that Safe Mode bypass some hardware is frustrating because I can't troubleshoot the problem. I won't to reset the OS.
How often we should use this diagnostic? Does it cause stress to hardware? It is better to run it when we run into problem? It doesn't affect the file, right? I should run this diagnostic.
This diagnostic test does not affect any files. Yes, I would run this test to see if there are any hardware issue it can detect.
@@PC_Monkey I run the test and the error code is 2000-01-42. That must explain why the laptop freeze after logging in.
PS: It also explain why the chkdsk on boot get stuck at 0%.

Thanks for the video bro. I have an issue with my Dell laptop where the percentage of battery is stuck at the same level eventhough it being charged for a long period. The level don increase. just stuck at the same level. Should i perform Dell diagnostic ? Does this will fix the issue ?

Hello. I've run this test on my vostro 3700 several times and it freezes somewhere on the memory test. Also when this happens the screen shows random colours and after a while it turns off. Also I'm unable to install any OS since it does the same freezing/random colours screen/power off sequence. Do you have any idea of what the problem could be?

I've already tried another hard drive and another memory. I even replaced the mobo (got it from aliexpress) and it keeps doing the exact same thing. I'm running out of ideas here

@@PC_MonkeyExactly. I´ve tried several versions of windows and linux with the same result.
Currently i have 2 identical mobos, (i5 and i3 processors), two hard drives (320 and 1 80Gb) and 3 Ram modules (all 4Gb) and all of these combinations do the exact same thing.
However the computer has XP 32bits installed and it runs just fine. Also i can run portable OS through USB flash drive.
Please tell me there´s something i´m not seeing here

That is usually referring to a CPU failure. Run the Dell Diagnostic Test as seen here; ruclips.net/video/IsqINCxx_Ik/видео.html. If an issue with your CPU, it will have to be replaced. Its also possible the CPU is fine and its the Motherboard that has gone bad, as they tend to go bad before the CPU. Up to you which to swap out first. CPU would be easier.

Hi.my dell brought me hell of a problem series with adapter, then touch screen, new screen bubbles , switch replacement, final lcd replacement so on..
It was working against all..and today gave me blue screen sayingbl machine exception error..
Starting diagnostic tool and gets stuck without completion..gets stuck in mem checking process and I have to shut down manually..
I am so upset to dell for this trouble creating notebook..

hey my laptop beeps one time since start up. what to do?
I also have this model, l502x, nowadays when i run this bios diag tool, it will stuck during memory testing of the 4 cpu, maybe around 5% of full testing. The screen just go black and nothing is happening, i have to shut it down. Intel cpu stress test does not show any error of the cpu, so I am confused now. Any idea what is happening?

Everytime it goes to the CPU diagnostic part my laptop suddenly turns of..... Also it takes multiple press on the power button to just turn it on and don't turn back off, because it keeps turning off right after I turn it on.

I pressed the diagnostics button at startup after a screen that said battery is low. Now it's stuck at flashing colours. It flashes red green blue black and white. Is this part of the test? Should i press something?
It should be asking you if you can see the colors. Usually you would click on the letter 'y' for yes, and then the testing would progress.

Running the diagnostic test wont fix anything. It will just tell you if something is wrong. If your keys are not working but are not mechanically broken, troubleshoot them as seen here; ruclips.net/video/wqrchfpdJ_w/видео.html.

I am getting 5 beeps pause and continues this way. I ran the diagnostic test and it says no problems were found however this loud beep continues while my laptop is on. I have a dell insprion 15.

thank you for this video...i was getting message that it was not recognizing my AC adapter even though it is the original...i ordered a new one only to find that it still had same message! in the end...(found out how to prevent that warning via bios) now going forward i ran this test and message was my battery has reached end of its life but when test completed it says one or more errors...but its not telling me what the errors are... :( thank you in advance

I have a Dell Inspiron 15R 3537 laptop that has sonar beeps and black screen on startup. Dell has a list of beep codes, 1-8, but mine has one louder beep followed by equal volume equal frequency (every 2.6 secs) beeps that go on and on (I've counted way past 30.) Do you know what the infinite beeps means?

@@PC_Monkey Yes, I tried the RAM test. I tested all of my RAM sticks (2) and the beep code never changed. I just hear a nonstop beep at the same tone every 2-3 seconds. And the beep code never ends. Liquid can damage almost every component in a computer. However, if the test cleared the HDD, RAM, etc, then perhaps your lucky and its just an Operating System error. That would mean that the Memory (aka RAM) is faulty and needs to be replaced. Most computers have 2 RAM sticks. I would try removing one and starting the computer with only the other and then switch to find the faulty one. You can see that test done here; ruclips.net/video/7a7UKd8vna8/видео.html
I have a dell studio 1555 laptop, after latest update on win 10, something happened , laptop screen boots to a dark screw. I can hear hard disk activities and fan noise, but nothing on display. I reseated ram, cmos etc.still black display.
Then after a few days I again tried to boot it suddenly started into windows normally. When I opened chrome browser it crashed and shut down. When restarted I could see colourful random patterns and designs. Seems like display driver corrupted. I tried D + power button, it cycles through all colors- means no hardware damage- and then again balck screen. Pressing fn + power key , still.dark screen.
What should I do now?

@@PC_Monkey done that. Suppose the display drivers have been corrupted big time. Is it possible to take out hdd hook it up to another laptop and reinstall windows 10 and then install it on dell? Only issue is that dell I suppose is a legacy bios and hp is non legacy something like that you know.

Your graphics card is failing the diagnostic test? If its removable, I would unplug it and then plug it back in to make sure the connection is good. If it still fails the test, it would need to be replaced. What issue are you having with your computer?

If changing the settings in BIOS did not resolve the issue and the diagnostic test passed all components, then its most likely an operating system error. The test is not a fix. Its a test. It tells you if something is wrong. Is there an issue with your computer that your trying to troubleshoot?

When I turn on my computer it finishes Initial power up (POST) but when it goes to start loading windows I just get a black screen that says "No boot device available" I pressed F5 to run onboard diagnostics and it says everything passed but I get the message "No diagnostic utility partition identified" There are no error codes given to further research a solution to fix the problem. I'm thinking that maybe Windows is corrupt and needs to be reinstalled but I'm not 100% sure. Can you tell me what these messages mean and how to correct the problem?

@@PC_Monkey Yes, It's a old Dell Optiplex 760 Ultra Small Form Factor. I bought it second hand so I don't know any history on it. I know it was originally sold with Windows Vista but I haven't a clue if it was ever upgraded to any newer OS which leads me to another question. I don't have a copy of Windows Vista to try and reinstall but I do own a copy of Windows 7. Can I use my Windows 7 CD to install an OS onto it without causing any problems? I can't even get it to go into safe mode either. F8 doesn't seem to work. I've tried changing the boot order but to no avail. I will check out the link you supplied. Hopefully it will help me fix the issue.
@@B4WE4GET Yes you should be able to install Win7 on it. In my experience, I wouldnt go higher that that on a Win Vista machine. Not sure if the Win Vista Product Key will work with Win7. I imagine it will but I dont work on Win Vista machines much anymore.

Hi, I did everything and when the "Testing System Management in Progress....Estimated Time" completed I get another alert saying "testing completed. One or more errors were detected." But it don't say what the errors are.

@@PC_Monkey hey. It started when I plugged a USB cable in and I get an error, then my lap top froze so I turn it off. When I turned it on back it takes longer to boot up and then would freeze when I try opening other apps such as "File Explorer" then it would go black screen and all. But now when I turn it on i only get the support "supportAssist" screen with a link, when I follow the link and enter the error code it says I "harddrive error"🤷🏿♀️ my "harddrive is operating outside of normal parameters and should be replace." Yeah
I have the same exact problem. It said one or more errors detected and nothing after that. I did a full factory reset on my Dell laptop and now when I do the setup to update and restart it loops back to do it all over again.

Hi! My dad's computer Inspiron 14 and its beepin 7 times. He got a new battery and a new RAM. We tried doing what you are saying here but the DELL logo on the screen won't change and also the computer light blinks changing to normal color to orange. What to do? TIA!
more info: it won't initialize...we tried changing cables too and pc dies. Almost like there is an issue withe the charger/battery. But they are all new. Then suddenly while trying again to press the F12, the 7 beeps come on and wont stop.

It won't even start (like it won't show the DELL - screen is black) and it goes straight to 7 beeps. Then we hear the 7 beeps, and pauses, then 7 beeps again. As previously stated, we got a new battery and RAM. I wanna mention that this laptop was bought in Brazil. We are in NC. Not sure if it matters.

After a liquid spill, you want to first make sure the computer is 100% dry. You would turn your computer off immediately by pressing and holding the power button until the computer turns off. Then you would disassemble the computer as much as your comfortable with, at least trying to remove the bottom case. Then you would turn it on its side and let dry for a couple days. Have you done this yet or are you sure the computer is dry?

i upgraded my dell optiplex 980 to 16 gb of ram and windows 8.1 does blue screen of death on boot and when i use onboard diagnostic i get error Code 0123 memory - integrity test failed.
Did you make sure the RAM was compatible? Does the computer work fine if you put the old RAM back in?
@@PC_Monkey The pc works with the old ram. when I got. I contacted the company atech and they said the ram that I got would work with the dell Optiplex 980. the new ram is most likely not faulty I got it replaced twice for free.

I did that, it showed me that "it have one or more errors". I didnt know what to do, so i tried it again(or idk i just pressed the button, hopeing for more info about whats wrong). I heard a very wierd and scary beep and a msg saying "nothing is wrong do you wanna start a testing memory for 2h?"

@@timcsii3189 Well you have two ways you can go. Assuming nothing is wrong with BIOS or the HDD, then your most likely looking at an Operating System error. The other direction you could go is to believe that one time error that something is wrong with the HDD. Replace it and install the OS to the new one.
My keyboard some key are not working but doing above test not show any error.
This test is for other hardware. This test is not capable of testing a keyboard or individual keys. Do your keys feel like something is physically wrong with them or do they feel physically fine?

7 beeps is usually referring to a CPU failure. Run the Dell Diagnostic Test as seen here; ruclips.net/video/IsqINCxx_Ik/видео.html. If an issue with your CPU, it will have to be replaced. Its also possible the CPU is fine and its the Motherboard that has gone bad, as they tend to go bad before the CPU. Up to you which to swap out first. CPU would be easier.
