I BELIEVE! Come Sunday was about the most high energy piece I've ever heard this band play! Col. Fettig was really into it as well. Reminds me of the scene in the Blues Brothers where James Brown is leading the choir and Jake and Elwood are rocking along. Great music! Also congrats to MGySgt Dupuis for thirty years of service.
In the Thomas piece, the contrasting choirs of instruments--notably low brass and double reeds/flutes in the opening--make for real interest. Plus what a tuba section!
Good to be with my favorite band, on a working evening; the best seat in the house - even if its at my desk. 🙂Thank you all, Bravi tutti! and Semper Fi - until next time!
The band belongs to the people, regardless of what they are wearing. In some of the best concerts I have ever played there were less than 20 people. In fact, one of my top ten favorites was when we drove an hour from base to a private residence to give a concert to 1 man and his family as he was a retired Marine going through hospice at his house. He passed 2 days later. I will never forget that day and I felt honored playing in the unit that was able to grant that wish.
Bands more often tune to Bb because of the lack of strings and large numbers of clarinets. The A that orchestras use might be great for strings, but is not good for clarinets. The Bb is much more clarinet friendly.
Absolutely. But all the brass, including the F horn tune to Bb because no valves are pressed to play that note. Trumpets, cornets, tubas, euphoniums and trombones are all basically Bb instruments.

The musicians in The President's Own start as E-6 staff sergeants. An audition is required, but they recruit from the universities. The Marine field bands recruit from high schools, but they are regular enlisted Marines with B billets (jobs). And when they deploy to war they are perimeter security for the commanding general and are well versed in all the crew served small arms (machine guns). But the musicians here only play in the band and do not have any other assignments

Thank you, thank you all for your service. This is the standard right here. I am truly inspired and bewildered by this performance. Well done!
After the way Baylor performed "Come Sunday" I was really interested to hear this interpretation. WELL DONE on this piece and the whole program!
Love it. Wonderful playing. Lifted my spirits .....by excellent and impactful music programming.

Come Sunday blew my mind 😂

I used to think the US Army Field Band was as good as this. Maybe, maybe not so much. I was in the Field Band back in 85 - 95. We weren't this tight.

Fantastic. Do USMC conductors have to be able to dance as well?
I’m glad this was broadcast, but it seems below the President’s Own to play in front of 20 people, half of whom are wearing shorts.

CHOPS!!
Wow.
I noticed the marine band tunes to a B flat, rather than A. Why is that?
