    I'v been telling people everywhere to make their own mouthwash and gargle with distilled water and salt. I use an old, big Listerine bottle, and put about 1cm of salt in the bottom, then fill it up. I've been doing that for years. Considering we consume salt, I figure it's okay with the good bacteria in the crypts of the tongue. I hope you agree.

      Search for studies that reveal the more salt you eat the longer you live.
      Salt is demonized, meditation for high blood pressure treats symptoms appropriate causes and not the primary root causes. Which is bad for you but extremely profitable for drug companies to have you on medications for life.
      The more salt you consume the longer you live. But if you do not address the root causes of your poor health, you get what you deserve.

      Tooth decay is simply the failure to cure dental caries by the proper availability of calcium via carboxylated osteocalcin because of ample vitamin k2. Same for osteoporosis.
      The best source of nitric oxide is made and released in the presence of sunlight exposure. That first flush of red isn't burn, it is the result of NO vasodilation intended to bring capillaries up to periscope depth so UV can penetrate to irradiate the blood (cleanse) and oxygenate RBC.
      The biggest problem with fluoride is that it changes the dielectric constant of structured water in and around cells and bloodstream. This is also one reason how the processes of autophagy and apoptosis are diminished, which is why we fail to prevent cancer.
      I guess I have to listen to her recommendation of fluoride. I have a hard time conceiving of worse advice.

    I have not brushed my teeth in over 35 years, using a trade-off called oil pulling. I oil pull for 10 or so minutes and then I swallow everything. My breath is fresh, my teeth are clean and I have not had any dental caries or other dental complications in all this time. This is the first I’ve heard of the bacteria of the tongue being involved in nitric oxide production. I’d like to know more about this and how significant is it, like what kind of increase can we get by supporting the oral microbiome?

    • @blackswanstudios6632
      @blackswanstudios6632 Год назад +3

      Btw, the study she cited as proof that tongue scraping increases NO actually concludes that there is no definitive answer to whether tongue scraping is beneficial or not in relation to NO production, because it's not as simple as gaining more H. parainfluenza and other Proteobacteria. The study found that subjects who cleaned their tongue less frequently had higher salivary nitrate and nitrite concentrations than those who cleaned their tongue more frequently, so then we get into the area of complex interaction between tongue microbiome composition, salivary chemistry, and NO metabolism that is not fully understood.

      As we age we have decreased production of tears (dry eyes), saliva (dry mouth, 20% of circulatory nitrate concentrated in the saliva) and hydrochloric acid in the stomach (achlorhydria, HCl is required for reduction of nitrite to NO, release of free B12 from diet and absorption of calcium, magnesium and iron).
      Consuming lots of carbohydrates, especially fructose and sugar, leads to excessive formation of uric acid which inhibits eNOS endothelial nitric oxide synthase. Hyperinsulinemia causes metabolic syndromes including hypertension (insulin increases sodium retention and hepatic uric acid production).

Dr. Ellie Phillips, DDS has an oral health system that includes Fluoride toothpaste, three mouthwashes and Xylitol dental mints. By the way, Dr.Ellie has a video on the use of mouthwash and nitric oxide. Van Dyken, although attempting to be thorough, is not. ALL mouthwashes do not kill good bacteria. Van Dyken does not identify the mouthwash used in the study was chlorhexidine, which Dr Ellie also condemned in her video as detrimental. However not all, and probably few, mouthwashes have this chemical. Dr Ellie in her video demonstrates, using her own saliva, the nitric oxide levels in her mouth as a result of using her system.

    Really informative video, i had no idea that mouth wash was so bad for those bacteria, but i really only use mouthwash when i have a cold or a mouth sore, so I'm glad i didn't use it more often. How about using hydrogen peroxide in the mouth? Would that be a better choice if i accidentally bit my tongue or cheek or something?

    I'm happy to see the list of nitrate-reducing oral bacteria, as I have looked for this online for some time without success!
    Is anyone aware of commercially available probiotic formulas which continue some or all of these? Possibly in a lozenge form?

    Besides brushing and flossing, baking soda rinses are effective. Toothpaste with the additives is mostly cosmetic, like perfume, deodorant, etc. The efficient mechanical removal of sticky plaque, which are colonies of various bacteria, is sufficient. The baking soda temporarily changes the pH in your mouth, inhibiting rapid growth of these colonies. When you eat, the bacteria eat. The more sugar you eat, the more they "party!"

    Thanks Doctor, for another excellent, well supported presentation. Unfortunately, I used antimicrobial mouth washes for a long, long time, so I have two related questions.
    1) Is there an available test to assess for permanent damage to the tongue microbiome? A test that would tell me if any of the populations of tongue bacteria you mention were wiped out by years of using antiseptic rinses?
    2) If my tongue microbiome has been damaged, is there a probiotic to rebuild it? Your oral rinse looks like a good support for a functioning microbiome. What would be good for rebuilding one that was severely damaged?
    I think this would relate not only to people with long term mouthwash use, but also those who have had to chronically use antibiotics, for any reason. Your thoughts on assessing and repairing the damage would be most welcome. Thanks again!

    I have been using fluoride free toothpaste for years and I always rinse with Hydrogen Peroxide. No cavities, and have not been to a dentist in years, I routinely clean my own teeth with dental tools.I have to stay on top of the tarter or it can build up fast. My grandmother use Peroxide everyday and kept her teeth until she died at 93.
    Good test for men on NO is the quality of their erections. I have found taking beet powder + super greens will give me erections of Steel! Even better than taking L-Arginine or Testojack which I also take to keep testosterone levels up.

    So why can’t I just take some probiotics that live in the mouth, pour it 1-3 capsules into a bottle, pour 1-3 for teaspoons of xylitol and maybe boil some clove over night and mix every thing and that becomes my mouthwash. The sugar should help the bacteria grow and clove for anti inflammatory effect on the gum? What do you think of that?

    Thank you Dr. Van Dyken! Very interesting video. A question: Am I the only one who finds baking soda causes serious mouth irritation after a few days of use in brushing teeth? What causes that? What alternatives can I use? Does salt disturb beneficial bacteria, or only the bad guys?

    • @Mr-hn2bp
      @Mr-hn2bp 9 месяцев назад

      Baking soda is sodium bicarbonate and is alkaline. You are using too much and/or keeping it in the mouth too long. Salt dehydrates bacteria indiscriminately just like hydrogen peroxide, killing all .

    Regarding tongue brushing - most harmful bacteria on the tongue are yeasts, Candida Albicans being the most common, I use a chewable tablet of Warburgia Salutaris leaf which effectively kills and removes the Candida Albicans yeast from the tongue... swallowing the Warburgia Salutaris leaf tablet can also assist in intestinal yeast overgrowth, but that's another topic...
