    Thank you so much for this! I researched before we got our 12ft pool and realized we would definitely need a bigger pump than what it comes with. What I didn't grasp was that we would have to Frankenstein the whole setup. Your video confirmed what I was able to piece together from Google and pool forums 😂 I feel confident in cutting the liner now!

    this is super duper. i just ordered a carefree 16" sand filter, with a 3/4hp hi-flo II pump kit from amazon for 411, got a deal, was willing to pay up to 650 (which is more than the pool cost) because of the days maintenance has costed me and the children! Im looking to adapt the sand filter. i wanted to use the same skimmer but your video of cutting is really encouraging maybe i can hook in an external skimmer instead so it can be left in place. even during whirlpool swims where the kids go in circles until its whirring. otherwise the inside skimmer may clip them. Really good watch!

    I just upgraded my 18’ from the 1500Gph to 2500gph pump and never needed to cut anything. All of my old adapters and valves fit the new hoses and jet. I was surprised after seeing these videos. They are the exact same size as the old fittings.

    • @johnchappell7137
      @johnchappell7137 Год назад +1

      your 18 ft pool must have a larger "A" port (that's what mine is called on my pool) where the jet blows water back into the pool. My pool is a Coleman 16ft but also has the 1.25 ports as seen in this video, but when I tried to connect the jet nozzle to the pool, the screw attachment part of the jet nozzle wouldn't go through the 1.25 port but I wasn't aware I needed to cut out a larger hole for that inlet jet

    • @Type5Reviews
      @Type5Reviews  4 месяца назад

      I think the version of the black hose that I have in the video was originally a 24 foot sump pump hose but at the time it had sections within it where you could cut it shorter. Since then the newer hoses I’ve found don’t have the extra sections built into them. Originally bought it at menards though.

    • @Type5Reviews
      @Type5Reviews  Год назад

      How well the skimmer works really depends on the strength of your pump. You can see in my intex sand filter video that after I upgraded to a larger pump/filter that skimmer worked great on the standard connection. You can also see modifications I made on my how to vacuum an intex pool video. But I didn’t need to upgrade the inlet side at all.

    With this upgraded pump, do you still use the grey plug on the suction side hose that forces more pull from the skimmer?
    Or is the new pump powerful enough to pull from both?

    • @Type5Reviews
      @Type5Reviews  Год назад +2

      Yes even with a stronger pump you’ll still want to use that piece to block off most of the flow from one side. I’m in the process of setting up a sand filter now and even with more power I still use that piece to make the skimmer work the best.

    I have a 15 intex pool like yours and a new pump like yours to upgrade from the smaller ineffective pump came with the pool- and I have two intakes- I’d like to just have one to increase suction through the basket filter like yours- eliminating the T and two 1 1/5” hoses replacing with larger hoses is that possible and how do I eliminate the second intake valve/hole?

    • @Type5Reviews
      @Type5Reviews  2 года назад

      The easy route is to use one of those black stoppers to block off one of the inlets. But this leaves you with the stock 1 1/4” back to the tee that then goes to 1.5”. If you want to increase the inlet then you’ll need to replace it with a new inlet that’s 1.5”, but still need to be able to connect a 1.5 hose inside the pool as well. You could use a new inlet like this. amzn.to/3eIOREh
      This would require cutting the liner and installing it like the outlet in the video. Then you’d need the GAME 4560 40mm to 1.5” adapter a.co/d/7XaSDZO to be able to connect strait to an intex hose or use it to connect to another new shutoff style valve. amzn.to/3yTwxPw
      Then on the inside of the pool you could connect your vacuum or strainer hose to a 1.5” threaded barb fitting.
      Then for the side that’s not used you could either patch it closed or install another 1.5” inlet and just insert a threaded plug with pipe tape on the threads to seal it off.
      I hope this gives you an idea of what could be done. I may actually do something similar to this myself next season. Hopefully this makes sense. I don’t know if there is really an easier way but from what I’ve found that’s how I’d do it. Good luck.

    • @Type5Reviews
      @Type5Reviews  Год назад +1

      For now I kept the two 1.25 inlet hoses the same which fed into the new tee that then jumps up in size to 1.5 to go to the pump. I figured the two smaller hoses feeding into the one larger hose aren’t small enough to restrict the flow into the new pump. Then out from the pump back to the pool is the larger 1.5 hose with the new outlet nozzle. So into and out of the pump are both 1.5. For this particular pump I may have been able to get away with some adapters to still use all 1.25 hoses but I didn’t want to restrict the flow of the pump.

  • @DaddyDean87
    @DaddyDean87 Год назад +1

    Did you not have to do the same to the other hose outlet side?

    • @Type5Reviews
      @Type5Reviews  Год назад +2

      No. The tee on the inlet side that I added converts 2 of the 1.25 inlet hoses to one 1.5 inch hose that then goes to the pump. It’s the outlet that goes back to the pool that has to be upgraded.

    I have the 12 foot by 4 foot Intex pool. It came with the side skimmer. What am I supposed to do with my hoses that go to the side skimmer when I swap out the new pump.

    • @Type5Reviews
      @Type5Reviews  Год назад

      Just like your old pump setup, one hose goes into your pump/filter and then one should go out to your pool. If your skimmer side has 2 hoses they likely join together at some point down to 1 hose. This point would have to be adapted to 1.5” for a larger pump. I’d double check the size of your hoses coming from your skimmer to the pump and then from the pump back to your pool. If they are already 1.5” then you wouldn’t have to change much besides the pump/filter otherwise you may need to modify the inlet back to the pool like I did in the video or get a different adapter to go to 1.5” on the skimmer side. Good luck.

    So you only have to cut the one hole and not the 2 outlet holes?

    • @Type5Reviews
      @Type5Reviews  5 месяцев назад +1

      Correct. The hole from the pump back to the pool needs to be cut larger to fit the larger valve. The 2 original holes from the pool can be left as 1 1/4” and you then just order the tee in the description that combines the two 1 1/2 hoses into one 1 1/2 hose. Then make sure you have the correct 1 1/2 hose to and from the pump. Hope this helps.

    Great video. I did notice that your new inlet plunger does not include the aerator, the original did. Doesn't the aerator increase flow and provide better filtration?

    • @Type5Reviews
      @Type5Reviews  Год назад +1

      Both the old outlet port and the new outlet port back to the pool that I upgraded to had the small aerator on top. The inlet ports that go to the pump from the pool don’t have the aerator. And only increasing the size of the hole or the power of your pump will increase the flow, and a better pump or sand filter will provide better filtration.

      You could use an adapter on the inlet and outlet ports. But the larger the pump you upgrade to the less you would want to restrict the water flow, and an adapter would be forcing more water through a 1.25” hole instead of a 1.5” hole that can handle a higher flow rate more easily.

    NO need to cut the pool hole bigger. Just connect the outside bigger pipes with 1.25>>1.5 adapters. Leave the rest as it is. The bigger pumps with the fancy return/inlet element requiring cutting a hole have actually much smaller clearance for water inside (bottle neck point) so in the end water flow is just fine with the old elements. 😊 I’ll post my own short video clip soon.
