Great follow up to the first R6 video...well well well done ...u revisited all the concerns and queries about the first video and was refreshing to see that u can admit ur own errors
Suggession: try using an hdmi splitter so its easier to see both compared visuals when doing TV comparisons so u dont have to try and duplicate scene for scene...it will just be a duplicate

If you remember TCL Reps mentioned at CES that this year the TV's would be professionally calobrated in house to take the headache out of looking for the right settings. That's why HDR Normal is the best setting out of the box.

No it isn't. It's a 60hz panel with 120hz cmi and 240 motion.
How's the motion compared to your Samsung? Right now the MU8000 is $599 near me and I'm on the fence if I should go with the MU8000 or the 6-Series.
I am in Canada and TCL is not available in Bestbuy, only in Amazon... BUT still there is no sign to order it online. I may need to go across the border to pick this up when its available.

Hey Joalster! I'm on a budget, trying to upgrade my kS8500, watching movies on it is terrible do to the display being edgelit, this may sound crazy but I had a hisense 4k budget tv and it looked better, I guess because it had a fald?! will I get a better experience with the tcl r617?
How about settings for 1080 content? ie: my U-verse cable box. How does this tv perform with upscaling content like this?

I'm so hesitant on getting this, I had the p605 and the motion was terrible. I currently have the Samsung nu8000 55 inch, it's decent, but I honestly rather save 400$ and get this one instead. I just need to know how good the motion is for gaming, without all that frame insertion bs.

Have you tried to listen to the TV without a sound bar? It sounds very boxy sound. Does that go away with a sound bar? Or running it 4k HDR (instead of 1080p? I love the TV but hate the sound.
Jolster its 60HZ, its right on their official website. 120cmi, this means 60hz panel as confirmed by RTINGs website that TCL 120cmi means 60 Native panel.
Gotallofthem1 Yes, its just confusing that the box says 240 natural motion, then the website says 120cmi then if you see other tcl models they are 60/120cmi.
Yeah.. thats where I was confused as well. Putting 240 cmi on the box when its actually 120 is pretty lame from TCL. This is unacceptable and just plain false advertising. They advertised 120hrz panel before launch only to find out its still just 60hrz. Atleast they added a proper screen smothing setting and it looks like it works which is a step up from last year. Still kinda disappointed in TCL for not delivering on the prelaunch specs though.

I think you should slide the sharpness to 0 on 4k content. And only bring it up with 720p and 480p content

Has anyone hooked this tv up to a 1080 cable box? U-verse looks a lil out of whack. Looking for some settings suggestions for the lower reso. Should I put this on HDMI 1.4, 2.0, Auto for this input? The upscalling doesn’t look that great, but I’ve only played around with it for a few mins!
Hey Joelster do you have to have 4K hdmi cables to use with your 4K tv and PS4 or will regular hdmi cables work?

I ordered the 55 inch from Amazon and the picture mode options that I see are normal, sports, vivid, low power, and movie instead of "dark hdr", bright hdr", "normal" that you see. How do I get those options on my TV?
I'm late but to answer your question. In order to get those, you have to be viewing content that is in HDR. Regular 1080 movies and some games will not show up on HDR
Great stuff. I just saw another guys video and he said he liked the TV, but that when watching or playing something in regular 1080p not 4k.... he thought the picture was not that great. He passed it off as hay it's a 600 TV and the internal upgading of lower res video is where they cut back to make it htis economical. Can you ceck how it does with 1080p content... see if oyu can get some good settings for this material?????
Thanks for your vids. For gaming on TVs, I'm always wondering: How laggy in game mode, and how many processing options can you turn on until it gets too laggy.
13lake You can still game without game mode and wont feel input lag, but if you add motion smoothing you will feel it a bit laggy, you can still play but I did feel the lag.

The TV is advertised for 4k 120hz. However, due to the lack of support HDMI 2.1 it can only produce 4k 60hz. It's a damn shame because HDMI 2.1 has a variable refresh rate, similar to g-sync and freesync. This would have really been nice considering it sold well as a budget friendly gaming tv.

Can you save multiple picture setting configurations? I use the same HDMI input for watching blu ray as for playing games, so I want to be able to quickly select my saved settings.
You can use 1 setting and just shut off game mode easily...I think it has seperate for each input as far as I heard

Dakota Gridley Make sure you are using the correct hdmi port, the one that supports HDR and turn on UHD colors on your tv, oh and use HDR content, like GOW or Horizon.

I usually don't like a bright picture, as in it just hurts my eyes, but it seems brightness in reference to HDR TVs is also about light and dark contrast levels.
As in the grass in Shadow of The Colossus on the TCL 6 isn't as colorful, gradient-wise, as the Samsung?
That said, LAG is my main factor.
I want low lag, and the TCL's seems to be the champ.
13lake samsung oversaturates their devices. Samsung tvs are edge lit.

I have a question can you help? I'm trying to set my R615 with my PS4 PRO and I'm trying to input the same settings as you. And on my options were it says picture mode it just says Normal and not Normal HDR like on your video does this mean HDR is not ON?

The Nemesis I think is the same, I noticed some blur in some games more than others, in Horizon zero down i noticed some blur while spinning the camera, while on GOW I didn't noticed anything.

Thanks Joel, a good honest answer. One of the things I like about the Sony TV's (the 850D or better) is how well they handle the motion of TV shows and movies. I would like to save some money though, so the TCL had caught my eye.

damien crawley IMO TCL, it has better contrast, better black levels, sk9000 has good colors but blacks looks grayish.
Man it looks so good....but...do you think it can compare to the sony x900e or are the extra $400 not worth it and just get this one...at the moment im using an old bravia xe400

Yeah I am not sure about the 4k upscaling and motion flow of this tcl. Sony x900e is a beast in those departments, and if this tv is anywhere near I will consider buying it but otherwise x900e as it excels in the department i am interested in. Please do compare those two, i am considering buying one.
RMCF I wish I have the x900e so I can do some side by side comparisons, but I love how TCL improved this tv from last years model. Even Dolby vision programs from Netflix looks great.
900e a better TV overall get it if you can afford it. If not this should make you plenty satisfied

This tv looks awful in HDR, it’s just not bright enough to provide a meaningful experience. I am passing up on this tv this year, really disappointed.
MrSh0wtime3 U can spend $100 extra over this tv and get x900e which can show decent level of HDR as that tv can actually reach 1000 nits of peak brightness. To me x900e is the best value for money right now not this TCL overhyped tv.
MrSh0wtime3 ya if you can afford it the 900 e is a brighter TV but I believe it isn't worth the extra money to me personally. If you can afford it get the best TV for what you can.
the 900e is being open boxed at the prices of 734 to 998 for the 55in. A great buy right now!
Nazmul Rabbi I noticed that people who say this are usually people who haven't tried it long enough and own the sony x900e.
The reason I dont talk about the sony is because i dont own it but this TCL has Dolby vision, improved viewing angles, all HDMI ports supports HDR, I preffer Roku tv over Android tv, more dimming zones than sony and for $400 less than last years x900e or $900 for tge new x900f which the only improvement would be the motion handling and maybe a bit brighter.
