For anyone still on an Xbox One X, or any Xbox One for that matter - I highly, HIGHLY recommend purchasing an external SSD for installing games. It significantly improves load times and really helps the overall experience. Also, 11:17 was the most traumatic thing I've ever went through
@@WeskerR37 Well, it's a "yes/no" situation. It's better to just plug in an external drive if you're just going to launch a game and be done with it. It's better to upgrade the internal drive if you spent a lot more time in the menus (doing Microsoft Rewards, searching the Microsoft Store, changing settings, etc.). So if you get frustrated with the OS, do the internal upgrade. If you barely even notice the OS, then go external. External has the additional advantage of portability between Xboxes, and it's an incredibly useful thing to have if and when you upgrade to the current-gen, as you run back-compat games off of the external drive.
@@WeskerR37 You're welcome. Now that prices have come down, I think *every* console owner should have an external SSD. On the older systems, it will provide more space and faster loading times. On the new systems, space on the internal drive is at a premium, and expanding the internal storage is very expensive, so putting apps and back-compat games on an inexpensive USB SSD takes important pressure off the internal storage. So every console owner will benefit from an inexpensive USB SSD.
Bro the for some reason I use to hate that dam model the one s the dam thing didn’t really run on 4k like the one x did I avoided that model for so long
I did this upgrade with my One X too. I noticed faster load times but i only tried it on older games and the load times weren't drastically better. I'm impressed how much it improves the load times on cross gen games.
@@XxN00BxXgg3 I can tell you the ssd is such a massive upgrade, you get faster loading times, it also fixes the issue when textures don't load , also in my experience, cyberpunk is now playable and feels much smoother
That's because SSDs back then weren't cost effective. SSDs today are far more cost effective and of better quality, even budget tier ones today offer superior performance and life to some high tier ones.
I did this when I had the Xbox One X, it definitely helped make it feel a lot faster and smoother, game download speeds were more consistent and the overall UI was just so much better. I have the Series X now which is obviously more powerful with an even better SSD, but that upgrade made the One X feel a lot more next gen tbh 😄
My Xbox one x hard drive officially wore out after 4 months to the point where the console didn’t boot at all. I had to choose between this upgrade or an Xbox series s, because the Xbox series x is still ridiculously out priced in my area. I chose to repair the one x and I have had no regrets. Load times are much faster and I even noticed game performance improvements
Can anyone explain why my One X has been crashing? It started happening when I downloaded CODMW2. I since deleted the game, did a hard reset etc but the problem continues. I can watch moves and RUclips with no problems but it crashes at some point when I’m playing multiplayer games or even when I’m offline. Will committing to this upgrade help along with running a Ethernet cable or will I need an entire new system? Thanks in advance guys. The problem has been extremely annoying.
@@lilbfrom094princeton8 The grills are probably full of dust, causing it to overheat, get a can of compressed air, open up the Xbox and blow all the dust out from the fans
The biggest reason to replace the internal drive to a SSD is general system responsiveness. I replaced mine a year ago when I was dealing with games failing to launch. System lockups. Games also download faster on my Gigabit service with an internal SSD. The Boot animation will auto reinstall upon the next OTA update your system will install. Since I use my Xbox One X as a secondary machine, my Series X is my primary, it has made a world of difference.
Honestly think the Xbox One X with internal SSD upgrade is a better buy than the Xbox Series S, The Xbox One X allows for physical games and movies to be played on it and better supports 4K TV's
Amen, graphics are basically identical too. And the form factor is much nicer than the TOWER SX. I like my White 1X, and the 4K player still works great.
For me, I kept my One X for 4k blurays, and because the Series S is cheap, I got that as well. I'll admit I enjoyed my One X more in the beginning because of the higher resolutions for some games, but I really noticed the framerate drop with Halo Infinite, Diablo 4, and others. Now, I play my Series S, but I use my One X for blurays and if I borrow games from my friends.
I think it would vary on your priorities and what kind of games you play. Personally I don’t want to play competitive COD on 60fps, story games that are still on the old gen wouldn’t be bad, however.
4:05 I recently put an internal ssd that I got for dirt cheap at micro center in my One S, and I'll say that while people keep talking about the sata II limitation of the One/One S, an internal SSD has VASTLY improved the speed and overall feel of the Xbox UI. I mainly use my xbox as a streaming device these days, and opening netflix or hbo used to be slow and the apps themselves would feel slow and laggy in menus. After the upgrade, apps launch noticeably quicker and my inputs are responsive in the menus. Games also do load significantly quicker as well, though maybe not quite as fast as an external ssd, I would say an internal drive upgrade is definitely worth it.
Yeah, I had similar results on my One S. Most OS operations are random accesses, which a SSD accels at while not needing a ton of sustained reads. Plenty of games also do random reads, so SATA3 isn't necessary there either. Heck, on PC, going from a SATA3 SSD to a multi gb/s NVME doesn't really make a difference in most games.
Yes upgrading to a SSD will always win over a mechanical HDD on almost any interface. It's just how much money do you want to spend on old tech. Most SSDs cost a lot. A new series S can be had for the price of a 2tb SSD. Well almost the same price. A good Samsung 2tb SSD cost over $200. Series S cost $299 before tax. I have seen series S for as low as $240 brand new.
This video helped a lot! I bought my Xbox One X around when it first came out in around 2017. I remember it being 'groundbreaking' with its six terraflops of processing power even though nobody and their grandma knew what a terraflop was. We just knew the Xbox One X had some serious performance, and it still does. Fast forward to now, and the HDD is really starting to show its age, not just with boot and load times, but especially with downloads since I have 1gbps internet hardwired into it. Now that I've got the SSD into it, everything is blazing fast. Hopefully, I can use this console until Microsoft stops supporting it with new games.
The Xbox one S and Xbox one X is what the Xbox one was supposed to be when it first came out.. The Xbox one X is still good that if you buy the Xbox series X, you won’t notice that much of an upgrade.
Oh for sure, the loading speeds and game resolutions have been drastically improved, but there aren’t any AAA games available that take advantage of the series X hardware yet.
Great video. I did this a few years ago with my One X and PS4 Pro, gave the systems a good clean (very dusty heatsinks) and repasted APUs with Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut. The snappiness of the UI on both systems running on internal 2TB Crucial MX500s is worth it, games loading faster eg MCC on Xbox is a worthwhile upgrade for anyone still mainlining these systems! 😊
Thank you for such a detailed tutorial. I upgraded my Xbox one X with Samsung 870 EVO 1TB 2 years ago, then did another upgrade to 2 TB last year. What i can say is every dollar is worth of it ! The price of SSD has been going down to a quite resonable range and people with old consoles should consider the internal upgrade first if he or she has the ability to dissamble the console. However, what modders concern is the maximum capacity or limitation of the Xbox One consoles. I have viewed several videos made by XFiX(aka author of Xbox HDD master script). He said the limitation of user content partition is around 1.8TB or so. In other words the max standard capacity of SSD would be 2TB. Though we can partition the SSD of greater capacity and get beyond the limitation with Xbox HDD master script tool, we cannot use it because once trying ,it causes partition corruption and data lost. I just bought another new 4TB 870 EVO last week and this information interrupted my plan because I was just aware of it yesterday.
Said goodbye to my one x scorpio edition months ago right when my wife picked up her Series X. The One X was a beast and still is in some instances but I loved that console. It never really got loud or heated for me and performed really well when I had it. Its still worth it to me, but if you are not already a series owner and need another xbox you WILL feel the difference, especially with quick resume being a cool feature. Despite all that, still a great console imo
I switched the internal drive for an ssd (as well as using external ones). Less heat, less noise, lower power consumption, higher longevity. Games load a bit quicker, but its the other things I appreciate more.
I've actually done this with my Project Scorpio Xbox One X. Won't lie I had more issues with it orignially basically with the hard drive adapter causing issues especially with syncing/downloading. Fixed it by replacing it from a broken One X I had laying around and to this day it works perfectly. And I will continue to use it
Can anyone explain why my One X has been crashing? It started happening when I downloaded CODMW2. I since deleted the game, did a hard reset etc but the problem continues. I can watch moves and RUclips with no problems but it crashes at some point when I’m playing multiplayer games or even when I’m offline. @@lilbfrom094princeton8 it could be you have the same issue as me, though to start I think the HDD could be on its way out. If its the orignial then it will likely have to replaced soon. Fact that you've done a hard reset already reduces some of the troubleshooting steps already
@NightEagle256 It is the original and and I’ve done literally everything before having to open the Xbox. I will be sending it off if I have to open it. I was planing on getting it blown clean and tested, replacing the HDD and getting an ethernet cable. What internal SSD card would you go with?
@@lilbfrom094princeton8 well my One X has a Crucial MX500 1TB, but honestly don't bother putting an SSD in an orignial or One S as they can't utilise the speeds the same as a One X can. You could also use an external SSD, but if stuff is crashing you'll want to replace the hard drive anyway But don't let me put you off going down the SSD route for your OG One, after all if the hard drive is on its way out, its a good excuse as any anyway
@@NightEagle256 I installed a SSD to my OG XB1 a couple of months ago and I’m glad I did. Load times are about half of the what the HDD can do. Not blinding speed but very noticeable. The OS runs smoother too. No lag.
Seems like a 1-2% difference between the external and internal SSD. That’s a pretty marginal margin of error and still a better way to go about the XBX than those spinning disc drives.
I used an external white SSD for my Xbox since I got one for sale a couple years ago. I have an OG white MGC Xbox One with a 500 gig HDD(filled up fast). I finally bought a Series X and is well worth it.
I did a 2tb SSD upgrade in my PS4 Pro and it is definitely worth it. Load times and transitions are significantly shortened. Well worth the low cost of a current SSD.
I upgraded my Xbox One X and PS4 Pro with internal 1TB SSDs a few months ago. Huge performance gains, less pop-in, etc. The OS is extremely snappy compared to the old HDD and don’t regret it. Then I got a PS5 because fewer games support the last-gen consoles.
Bro I literally went out and purchased an xbox series x and then took that back and got 3 Xbox one X's that I did ssd swaps to definitely going to stick with my one X's for a while maybe until not the next xbox comes out but the next one after that lol because honestly the human eye can barely tell a difference from 4k and 8k and so on and believe it or not theres a way to get the One X to Run at higher frames also with a little modifications, I think Microsoft new that they were loosing alot of money with this system so they very fast discontinued it.. and they even stated that the One X will be capable of running future games that the newer consoles do, I think it's a Rare Diamond in the Rough thanks for the video 💯😁👍
This was interesting and very well put together, my dude. Thanks for experimenting. Appreciate all the effort that went into this project as well as how well the video was edited and produced. Good stuff.
I installed 2TB Samsung's into both my Gears 5 LE One X & Taco Bell One X. Not only is the added storage over the factory 1TB HDD nice. But as noted in this vid it all just runs/loads/installs better on an internal SSD. Not only that, but I thermal cam'd my HDD & SSD both under use. The HDD ran at 135F while the SSD ran at 85F. The 50F drop in drive temp helped the system run cooler and quieter as the fan didn't have to work as hard with less heat being generated in the console. I also went ahead and replaced the thermal paste in both. While I did it when the consoles were right around 1 year old since date of manufacture, the factory thermal paste had already dried up and was hard. Fresh Arctic MX-4 thermal paste and the exhaust temps after 2 hours of use at 4K resolution and it thermal temp'd 6% cooler with just fresh MX-4. So then they ran nearly silent after SSD & MX-4 install. Highly suggest slapping in some fresh quality thermal paste if you're going to open it up to do an SSD install.
@@davidgriffiths9021 Short answer is no, 2TB is max allowed by the operating system. Technically there are ways to fool it into allowing a 4TB drive, but those are a lil complicated and can be broken by system updates so it's not really advisable to do.
So I've been a long time subscriber to your channel and am a huge fan, I have installed a SSD in my Xbox One S and the difference is HUGE!!! I pretty much get speeds that are out of this world. I tested this against 2 of my friends Xboxes and mine won because the SSD caused at least a fourth of all loading times to be shaved off. Im just saying that when people say that it doesn't really make a difference on the Xbox One S, they are wrong. You kind of have to do it to really see the difference instead of just looking at the specs of its SATA interface and thinking you have all of the answers right there. If you get the time, Id recommend that you test this yourself
I've been looking for a video like thisi for weeks, and you uploaded this shortly after I stopped looking. Thank you! I've got the One X and the Series S, and because of load times, Quick Resume, and other quality of life differences, I've only been use the Series S. So I've been wondering whether I should upgrade the internal drive in the One X, or just give it away. Anyway, thanks for the characteristically well-edited video from a fellow Canadian. :)
the best thing to do is sale your xbox one x and used the money to get a 1Tb SSD hard drive for your xbox series s you will have more storage, the xbox one x will not be able to run next-gen games in the near future the GPU in the xbox one x is ok but the CPU and other components in the xbox one x are to weak and out dated to run on newer game engines, next year 2023 will be the last year where new games get release on xbox one and ps4.
I now realize why it was such a big deal that PS4/Pro was so user friendly with their hard drive access. I always thought you could just access the HDD on the Xbox the same way as the PS4. While they get flak for the proprietary nature of the Expansion Card, I’m happy Xbox has that instead of… well opening up the actual system 😅
@@JamoWaffleSponge I also have the original fat model as well which supports quick replacement. PlayStation has just always offered that convenience since the PS2. I just mentioned it because I recall people online always going on about how big of a deal it was and I never understood it until now haha
One X Project Scorpio owner here and I also did this exact upgrade earlier in 2022 with the same SSD, I also have a external 2TB Seagate Barracuda Fast SSD which was expensive $300.00 and looks GOOD! with the green LED light bar thats totally XBOX so in total 3TB of fast Top Tier SSD storage and $437.00 almost as much as the console witch is still about the same situation to for the new consoles as in price for 3TB. I decided over 2 years ago I would keep the One X till the next enhanced consoles come out and why I invested so much in the storage along with Thermal grizzly thermal pads and Artic MX-5 Thermal paste and I would say the console runs great and quite and no matter what you throw at it such as the new Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, cause of the Samsung internal SSD and with Texture Streaming set to High my console has none of the pop in issues like in the Digital Foundry video they Did on Warzone 2.0 and load times are fast! and all the games he tested here I have and played and they load and Stream textures and assets flowless. I'm so glad I waited for the Xbox One X to come out I was really about to get a One S when it released … I still have a good amount of back log of games to play let alone playing new games like MW2 and Final Phantasy 7 Crisis Core these new titles and more will all run in 4K on the X and I'm very good with that till the Series X Elite comes out which is going to blow our minds with how powerful that will be, till then I will have my One X as my daily driver looks like 2023 things will be slowing down a bit with new major titles going to current Gen consoles only but we still have new stuff to look forward to. To all my gamers who like me will be gaming on a One X or a last Gen console still, Defiantly upgrade your HDD to a SSD, internal or External.....Just Do it!
The Xbox One X wasn’t really next gen but it felt next gen. I loved this console so much. Really pushed every games capabilities at the time and was a joy to experience.
Completely disagree. I have an XboxONE X and the only difference between the two is resolution. If you sit close to a large TV then you will see the difference however if you are like me and sit 2.5-3 meters away from a 55” TV then the image will look the same.
@@Bendaak If you can’t see a difference between HD and a 4K resolution you definitely need your eyes checking brother. Also, resolution was not the only difference. Games became ‘Xbox One X Enhanced’ which usually meant higher resolution textures and maybe higher frame rates depending on the game and its devs. Xbox One X was incredible and a huge leap in gaming just like the PS4 Pro.
@@ItsClements Wrong. PPI is determined by both resolution and by how far away you are seated from the TV. Once you hit 326 PPI you are hitting retina resolution and will no longer be able to see any visual improvements. If you are seated 2.5m away from the TV with a 1080p resolution you have achieved 326+ PPI which means 4K is completely wasted as your eyes won’t perceive a difference. If you are a kid and are playing in your bedroom then you may be sitting closer to your TV and will require a higher resolution to achieve retina PPI.
After 3 years I upgraded from a Xbox One X to the XSX and it was night and day. Being able to play most games at 4k 60fps or 1440p 120fps is night and day. It’s worth the upgrade and there’s gamepass which makes the XSX worth it! Quick resume and smart delivery make the XSX one the better consoles to get. Only downside is the hard drive
EXCELLENT vid, Tech! I've watched a BUNCH of this type of video and yours was BY FAR SUPERIOR! Excellent photography, excellent sound/narration! Kudos! Thx for taking the time (I've made YT vids too, so I know EXACTLY how much work it is!!!)! I've heard from other YTers that you CAN'T clone the HDD to SSD and have it work, but I'm VERY skeptical (haven't tried it myself, but I'm THINKING about it). I bought a used One X back in the summer and I LOVE it. However, the loads times are frickin' BRUTAL! Two weeks ago I bought a used Series X, which I *LOVE*, but it's not detecting my home theatre/TV setup properly so I'm pretty pissed off. Been considering putting an SSD in my One X and just using that for a while instead. My One X detects that my TV can play games at 4K/60, but my friggin' Series X says I can only play games at 1080p/120! BS! I've tried EVERYTHING I can think of, but nothing works, so I'm mad enough to go back to a console that WORKS PROPERLY with my setup. Cheers, mate! :)
Pretty good video my friend, and you are absolutely correct about the swapping of the HDD for an SSD, big gains! But a couple things that you are factually incorrect on... Firstly, the Series S is MOST DEFINITELY capable of running games @ 4K resolution, as long as it has the GPU and memory bandwidth headroom, so it's usually limited to smaller scale games that do so. There's actually a studio that managed to get their game running @ 4k120 on the Series S! And secondly, yes, the One X does have a bit more (on paper) GPU headroom than the Series S, but in no way shape or form can it be considered "more powerful" when the entire package is considered. The CPU, the SSD, and the memory bandwidth in the Series S is in a league above its predecessor. So far we haven't seen ANY titles taking advantage of MOST of the performance saving software features that will truly allow this little beast to roar! The One X is fantastic, I loved mine to death, but I can't state it enough how much that thing trails in comparison to the Series S.
I did an internal SSD swap for my One S (tedious but doable). It’s so damn quiet now. I actually still use my One S for a media player in my living room because it can use HDR and 4K for video playback. It’s a great movie/stream box
1:49 - that sunflower iMac is sick as hell btw 👌👌 I haven't seen one of those in a good while haha. Easily one of the best designed all-in-one computers ever made.
I have Xbox One X myself and installed EVO Samsung 870 and YES this helps a lot =) Def worth it and this console is awesome tbh =) I really see no need to upgrade yet or will for quite some time. Plus I have kids and my family to take care of and don't need a 500 dollar console. Also screenshots? Are like INSTANT! Like? No, they have been instant for me. Thanks and have great day everyone!!
Adding an internal SSD (2TB in my case at a good speed, fully saturating the SATA3 6GB connection that HDDs just can't come close to hitting) makes a huge difference. For those on the fence about internal vs external, don't discount what a difference speeding up the OS itself makes. MS may not officially support this, and their size support (internally) is unfortunately limited to very exact capacity lists matching what their various models originally came with (maxing out at 2TB), but it's extremely streamlined all the same if you follow the above video. Just quickly restoring save files from MS's cloud works perfectly and I didn't bother with a drive clone either. There is ONE important caveat to this. The restoration file from MS doesn't include the boot animation for the One X. As a result, you break that with this method. While there's some complicated manual fixes, I found that the best fix is to simply wait until the next major OS upgrade from MS. This will include that video file and restore it during the upgrade process. This method should work right up until MS ends support for the console. At that point the rougher manual method will need to be employed.
@@oshanewilliams5152 This is what I am trying to figure out. I keep seeing these scripts people are running to partition the drive but this vid does not mention that at all. He specifically says he leaves the drive unformatted.
Well, it is worth doing the internal rather than the USB because it does help speed up other things like the dashboard menus, they load faster and run smoother than with the slow HDD. The USB Connected SSD can't help with that and only help with games. I tested a game called Super Lucky Tale and it was crazy how much faster the game loads with the SSD than with the slow HDD. Super Lucky TALE NUMNBERS - 00:1:54 with slow HDD and 00:48.97 with the faster SSD, It was a deference of about 1 minute and five seconds faster with the SSD than with the slow Xbox HDD. GTA5 is another game that loads faster. i didn't recoded the numbers for GTA5 but it was about a minute faster with SDD than with the slow HDD too.
I did internal just so it's self contained, the external was surprisingly irritating. Bonus points for all the non-game stuff being slightly faster as well.
@@oshanewilliams5152 It was a guide on youtube, all I remember is as long as the SSD is 2TB or smaller it isnt too bad. Also something called OSU which I think means offline system update.
Hey bro just some constructive criticism. Your cuts on your narration are a little harsh and jarring at times. Might be worth spending a bit more time recording the narration in less takes or more time editing the cuts you’re making. Great videos though. Audio levels between narration and music are near perfect, Love the B-roll and the overall way you edit videos. Informative and very structured.
I did the same thing bro. Love my one x. Ssd made it that much better. Can't beat the 4k. Stupid I can't play series s games and my hardware is almost just as good.
I just skipped all these and handed over my One X to a professional repairman in order to do the job, i didn't spend that much so, yeah, i did it because i wanted to play Cyberpunk with it however later on i've purchased a PS5 but didn't get the Cyberpunk for that yet :/
All my games were moved to external 2TB ssd and been using external for years... just way waaay faster load times and in game loading. No need to replace internal drive plus it's easier to move games to other xbox console.
Make sure to buy a Samsung or wd blue SSD do not go cheap on the internal SSD you’ll be sorry later on. They fail and can be slower then a hard drive if you go cheap.
I'm amazed that the games booted just as fast basically over USB3. I used to use a cheap external SSD on my One S for a little extra snappiness and it worked wonders when playing Destiny 2 back in the day.
I love your music choice, watched the entire video. No need for the info for me (i already have a series x and did this to my one x years ago) The music is just lit
I added an external SSD to my Xbox One X years ago and never regretted it. The speed being so close to your internal SSD upgrade isn’t too surprising. I don’t know where to find the info now, but when Microsoft was launching and promoting the XBox One X they talked about the increased data rate to the internal hard drive. I was surprised how slow the internal interface is. Basically, it is faster than a spinning hard drive, but much slower than an SSD. So, it makes sense that the USB3 interface to your external SSD isn’t really bottlenecking it any more than the internal interface
The SATA interface isn't what's limiting, it's the turd that is the APU/CPU that's by far the biggest bottleneck of all Xbones, including the more powerful One X. Same story on the PS4 (incl. Pro) since they use the same horrible CPU architecture (based on the desktop AMD FX-series CPUs codenamed Bulldozer, colloquially nicknamed "Faildozer" for being overhyped and underdelivering)
The main reason I initially went for swapping the internal drive for an SSD was it also speeds up the console itself. Boots faster, menus are smoother, and overall a more snappy experience. My Xbox One X now serves as my office Xbox, and I use a single external SSD for games I play on both my Xbox Series X in the living room and Xbox One X in my office during night shifts or standby. For Xbox One games I've noticed that the internal XS SSD is not much difference to an external SSD.
Putting a SSD in my One X was the best thing ever. Was sick of loading into Halo games late. This console should keep me going for a while yet until I need to upgrade
Thanks for the video. After trying to do this cloning my hd, and manipulating my partitions for the xbox to recognize my 2 Tb. I gave up on it and just went with a blank ssd and follow your steps. None of the most common trial partition software allows you extend partitions for free...You saved my day, thanks
Hey so did you lose that sweet sweet One X splash screen with the USB drive method? I've heard people lost it with the cloning method and that's why I haven't done this yet.
Ultimate 8th gen console experience . Ssd Not just helps with loading times it also helps with stuttering and hitching and not fully loaded textures is some games
My Xbox One X is still great, no plans on upgrading just for faster load times, and SOME framerate boosts that make the resolution suffer. The graphics are basically identical between the Series X and One X, some are slightly higher on the 1X. Especially compared to PS5. Which I did buy just to have anything interesting that MIGHT come out, though I'm only seeing RE4 remake atm. So nothing much.
The series x is a pretty big jump actually, if you play games like call of duty. Load times and frame rate are drastically improved. I went through two series x, it was good, but the spinning drive was a real drag.
I replaced the internal HDD on 2 Xbox one X's, because the internal hdd's have a high failure rate. My original One X had a hard drive failure, and I got another One X from a friend that also had a hard drive failure. The initial startup has the same improvement with an internal SSD that you showed with the game boot times being almost 1/2 the time waiting.
@@oshanewilliams5152 the first one I did, I had to partition the drive. The second one, all I did was install the new unpartitioned drive into the console and install an offline update onto the console and it started working
Got a one x from fb marketplace last spring for $100. Used the $ I saved to get an ssd and loaned the whole system to a friend so we could play halo :)
You're better off just keeping games off the internal HDD and adding a USB3 SSD to load all games on. Been using that method for a couple years and have been happy with it. This is still a great console, and although they keep coming up with games that are only Series S/X compatible, I'm just going to run with this bad boy until it dies! I mostly play RTS and TBS games anyway, and all the great ones came out in the last two console generations!
1:00 more raw power doesn't mean the procesor is better, XSS outperforms XOX in all games, digital foundry video is 2 years old, all games have been updated since.
I bought this cyberpunk special edition just coz it was special edition and had blu ray capabilities and i couldn't get a hand on series X back then. No regrets and it looks soo good and performance is good!
I had a 1TB SSD lying around so I replaced the HDD in my One S and it's much faster. I also pulled the heatsink and applied new thermal paste. The thermal paste Microsoft applied was garbage, dried out, and hard. Used a high quality paste and the temp difference is significant.
When I get some time off. I want to do this too. When I upgraded my xbox w the ssd, I should of did the thermal paste thing too but got scared. Now I regret not doing it.
wow speed diffrence on the one x with an ssd is insane. i did an ssd on my ps4 pro and it was marginal. obviously sinc ethen i moved on and bought a ps5 and series x but regardless awesome video!
I upgraded not because I wanted to, but because the crappy Seagate HDD had died and it no longer booted properly (5 tries to get to the dashboard, and froze often) 😅 Slapped a 2TB SATA SSD in there and while I was at it, replaced both the thermal paste on the APU/CPU and also replaced the trash tier thermal putty (which has no springiness to it, and in my case was even dry and cracked) with new EK thermal pads, then restored the console with the OSU USB stick. It's not *that* much of a speed difference, but hot damn it's whisper quiet again and I don't need to be paranoid about physical shocks killing the HDD anymore... or free drive space for that matter 😄

I never had the experience of an hdd in my ps4 or ps4 pro. Literally the first thing I did was replace the hdd with an ssd before I even bothered plugging it in. (just need the software on a usb stick)..it’s about time someone does this with an Xbox
I'm sick of people saying the Series S can't do 4K. It can do 4K. The only reason the console targets 1440P is in order to hit 120 frames per second. But in less demanding titles, like the Ori games, it has 0 issue outputting those games at a native 4K.
Older one x and s games don't sadly benefit too much from the SSD vs what it should be because the games are designed for HDD so it's not optimized for the SSD. I'm not saying it should be NVMe fast but it should be double, if not triple the speed of a regular HDD if it was properly optimized. You barely see a difference on the internal vs external SSD for that reason. Wish games of that generation had an SSD where if you download the game, it has a mode where the files are optimized if you do boot of an SSD, internal or external.
That's the video i wanted to see, The OneX with the best SATA SSD in Class. If you don't plan to replace the OneX, the internal replacement is better for safety, cause Hard Drive Failure is common and for Faster UI. You buy an External only if you'r OneX is Brand New(Empty & Unused Internal HDD).
Looking at the external SSD update. @91Tech your video shows a T5 first and then a T7. Which do you use; do they both work? (I heard T7's are too new and disconnect whilst playing games)
A SSHD is faster as the primary. With an SSD as an External, for games. I did this in 2019, in preparation for my 1Xs retirement, as main console a year later.
1:03 Series S can upscale to 4k therefore 1440p is the target resolution. Buying a SSD Powered Xbox One X is still worth getting but you won’t get the frames you want in most current gen games.
I don't get why the Xbox One was hated back then? In my opinion it looks like a pretty cool console and I don't understand why people hate it. I think it looks pretty good!
In the very beginning, Microsoft chose to go with a _do it all set top box_ instead of a true gaming console. They also had a kind of crappy attitude about the entire thing, like when some were complaining about the always on requirement of the Xbox One, Don Mattrick, head of Xbox at the time, said _"fortunately we have a product for people who aren't able to get some form of connectivity, it's called Xbox 360."_ IMO, this kind of attitude, which was quickly reversed, set the tone with alot of gamers early on and the spoke with their money and bought PS4. Additionally, the inclusion of Kinect meant they had to cut down somewhere, and unfortunately it was the GPU. Now don't get me wrong, I played the hell out of my Xbox One VCR and really enjoyed Kinect voice commands and the ability to watch football while playing a game on the same screen. However, I think I may have been one of the few that did. But the PS4 had a very substantial GPU advantage with 40% more compute power and twice the ROPs. So, in reality, with a much less powerful GPU and using DDR3 as main memory I think Microsoft did not do themselves or gamers any real favors. There are some very good looking/performing gams on the Xbox One VCR, but Sony, IMO, did a lot better in designing a gaming console first and foremost.
Yea but how much is an SSD now? I have a One X and a Series S, and the "more powerful" One X so far hasn't outperformed the Series S in anything it is supposed to with the faster GPU clock speed and extra RAM. It's possible it produces a slightly sharper image with a higher resolution in some older games, but that is more than made up for with the noticeable increase in rendering quality. Slightly lower resolution with more modern rendering technologies still just looks better. Add on everything else, like the ability to play current-gen exclusive games, quick resume, more stability in games with usually a lot less frame drops, a much smoother experience in the console OS, a lighter and more portable physical form, etc. it starts to look like a $150 used series S is a way better buy than an SSD for an Xbox One X
Replacing the stock hard drive effects every boot time, update, download, install, app launch and many other things that are much more aggravating than game loads.
It is not _better_ just different with a different performance target. The Series S is much faster, much more efficient and more feature rich. You may miss the resolution, but in the near future you will be playing games on the Series S that would not run at all on a one X. As for scaling, I'm not sure what you are referencing. I have a Series S on a 4K TV and have set the Series S to 4K signal output and was pleasantly surprised how well it scales games much better than the TV ever could, and IMO, better than any previous Xbox console I've owned including my 360 slim, which did a great job at the time.
I have both and use the One X more because I don't have to use a special HDD to play games on, they all play off of any drive you use. And the graphics are barely any different. Also I hate the tower formation of the SX, but it's okay I guess. We'll see if anything worth wild comes out.
For anyone still on an Xbox One X, or any Xbox One for that matter - I highly, HIGHLY recommend purchasing an external SSD for installing games. It significantly improves load times and really helps the overall experience.
Also, 11:17 was the most traumatic thing I've ever went through

I use the very same SSD on my ps3. I have the 1Tb QVO in another ps3 and the EVO is King 🥊🥊💥🙏

Did the same thing with my One S with a Crucial 1tb SSD and It works soooo much better
I heard the One S has SATA 3 interface. Maybe not then. 😢
@@jerredbeckham9423 because the Series S is a Neutered Series X hence why they are so cheap..

As a Series X owner, you will notice it in some ways. The fast loading from the SSD is one thing you will notice. Higher framerates too
Oh for sure, the loading speeds and game resolutions have been drastically improved, but there aren’t any AAA games available that take advantage of the series X hardware yet.
Do you own a Series X? The upgrade is ridiculous. Definitely noticeable.
The upgrade to the Series X is massive over the One X, although i really liked my One X at the time.

@@lilbfrom094princeton8 well my One X has a Crucial MX500 1TB, but honestly don't bother putting an SSD in an orignial or One S as they can't utilise the speeds the same as a One X can. You could also use an external SSD, but if stuff is crashing you'll want to replace the hard drive anyway
But don't let me put you off going down the SSD route for your OG One, after all if the hard drive is on its way out, its a good excuse as any anyway

Highly suggest slapping in some fresh quality thermal paste if you're going to open it up to do an SSD install.
will a 4tb ssd work with xbox

For a console that's almost 10 years old, this small upgrade brings up to parr with the series s & X
Did you partition the ssd on a pc or does the xbox do it when you install the new drive?
@@oshanewilliams5152 This is what I am trying to figure out. I keep seeing these scripts people are running to partition the drive but this vid does not mention that at all. He specifically says he leaves the drive unformatted.
@@DJKittrell you don't have to partition it,the game reformatted it for me.
Did you partition the ssd on a pc or does the xbox do it when you install the new drive?
Stupid I can't play series s games and my hardware is almost just as good.
the performance in game, with ssd is better ? the fps with ssd is more consistent than hdd ?
I upgraded my Xbox One X with an SSD because the HDD was dead, it’s amazing but that repair was awful.
I'm amazed that the games booted just as fast basically over USB3. I used to use a cheap external SSD on my One S for a little extra snappiness and it worked wonders when playing Destiny 2 back in the day.
I love your music choice, watched the entire video.
No need for the info for me (i already have a series x and did this to my one x years ago)
The music is just lit
I added an external SSD to my Xbox One X years ago and never regretted it. The speed being so close to your internal SSD upgrade isn’t too surprising. I don’t know where to find the info now, but when Microsoft was launching and promoting the XBox One X they talked about the increased data rate to the internal hard drive. I was surprised how slow the internal interface is. Basically, it is faster than a spinning hard drive, but much slower than an SSD. So, it makes sense that the USB3 interface to your external SSD isn’t really bottlenecking it any more than the internal interface
Can you recommend a brand for me
The SATA interface isn't what's limiting, it's the turd that is the APU/CPU that's by far the biggest bottleneck of all Xbones, including the more powerful One X. Same story on the PS4 (incl. Pro) since they use the same horrible CPU architecture (based on the desktop AMD FX-series CPUs codenamed Bulldozer, colloquially nicknamed "Faildozer" for being overhyped and underdelivering)
I did this years ago. And YES it was worth it.
Changed my mind, going with the series s
if i have never gotten a pc, and a series x was way over priced, i would’ve put a 2 tb ssd in my one x in a heart beat
I simply loved the retro Doom and Bubsy soundtracks in the background!
Hey so did you lose that sweet sweet One X splash screen with the USB drive method? I've heard people lost it with the cloning method and that's why I haven't done this yet.
I upgraded my old One X with a 2TB SSD a while back, it was so worthwhile.
Ultimate 8th gen console experience .
Ssd Not just helps with loading times it also helps with stuttering and hitching and not fully loaded textures is some games
Really an excellent job, and very close to a tutorial. Actually much better than most!
Its a real shame that microsoft didnt update the cpu used on xbox one x.
PS4 Pro: pop out the cover, swap the drive
Xbox One X: welcome to Narnia
Great video my guy
Great video thanks but boy, that’s a bit of a task to just change the HD. Shame it’s not a case of one screw, and slide out.
Nice video, you convinced me to buy a ssd, it's totally worth it. What's the difference between HDD and SSD for the boot time?
For someone who got his xbox one x in 2018 and will be with it until true next gen,id say this cyberpunk model is my wet dream
Did you partition the ssd on your pc or just installed it in the xbox and it was done automatically?
@@oshanewilliams5152 the first one I did, I had to partition the drive. The second one, all I did was install the new unpartitioned drive into the console and install an offline update onto the console and it started working
I did this upgrade and all I get is crashing, overheating, and have to reset the system every few weeks because of update failures.
Build a pc if that’s your preferred genre. Consoles suck.
It's not as fast as it could be because the hardware was not especially made for an ssd, so it's just saturating the bandwidth.
Been waiting for you to get back into gaming vids Josh! Great video :) happy holidays!!
The XBOX ONE X iz a Beast , the only Problem MS is abandoning it you cant even paly Star field not coming out and many more games this is an insult to all ho buyed a Xbox one X with so much Power and new ip not coming out for it tzz

@@DEXXXO 6 teraflops = 1060 or 1070 level of power, see how that game runs lmao. can barely run above 20 at 1080p
I never had the experience of an hdd in my ps4 or ps4 pro. Literally the first thing I did was replace the hdd with an ssd before I even bothered plugging it in. (just need the software on a usb stick)..it’s about time someone does this with an Xbox
FYI opening your stuff doesn’t void the warranty unless you break something. At least in the US.
I'm sick of people saying the Series S can't do 4K. It can do 4K. The only reason the console targets 1440P is in order to hit 120 frames per second. But in less demanding titles, like the Ori games, it has 0 issue outputting those games at a native 4K.
The SSD upgrade to the One X makes it useful still in 2024
Older one x and s games don't sadly benefit too much from the SSD vs what it should be because the games are designed for HDD so it's not optimized for the SSD.
Yes worth it. Sons xbox series S hdmi is out, so my swapped 2tb ssd samsung QVO-870 has ran amazing this past year.

Hello, I have a question, can I install an ssd without cloning the drive?
And thanks for the Great Video ❤
Best XboxOneX ssd video so far 👌
Replacing the stock hard drive effects every boot time, update, download, install, app launch and many other things that are much more aggravating than game loads.
My gpu went down on my one x and traded it in for a series s. I miss the one x. It’s better. The 360 games up scaled much nicer.
Really found this video really helpful thank you 👍
I got the series x and still got my one x which my son uses, its still a great console
I have both and use the One X more because I don't have to use a special HDD to play games on, they all play off of any drive you use. And the graphics are barely any different. Also I hate the tower formation of the SX, but it's okay I guess. We'll see if anything worth wild comes out.
