Mk 2 was the peak of the series
Kids not of that time simply can’t talk about something,before their time.
I always think, if you're gonna try to examine something from a specific moment in pop culture from before your time, you should at least attempt to immerse yourself in information on what it was like to be there. It's like me trying to say that the birth of rock n roll is completly dumb and inconsequential just cos it's technically inferior to guitar music made in more recent decades.
Crossover kicks completely revolutionized MK for the better.

Bro, for me its an easy choice. since i was born in 1980.. the arcades were there, the tournaments where there and the past I had with it. call it bias... call it nostalgia... call it whatever. MK2, MK3, UMK3 and Trilogy will always be my favorite games in the series! Much love to TWBootyhunter. the man has an opinion and he stands on it.... still fightin words LOL.
ai in old mk games wasnt just cheap to steal to quarters. it was also very limited by how much space there is on boards and especially home console carts. there really wasnt enough free space for complicated ai routines.
MK 2 love it. Love the old 2d versions they are what i grew up on in my teens.
The criticism of Shao Kahn exploding in MK2 is kind of silly. He explodes in MK3 and appears to be alive in the opening of Deadly Alliance if I remember correctly. Doesn't Quan Chi and Shang Tsung team up against him? And then we find out in the GameCube version of Deception (and the PSP version I think) that it wasn't actually Shao Kahn that Quan Chi and Shang Tsung killed but a clone he made of himself or something.
I'll always have a soft spot for MK3 over MK2 simply because it was the first MK game I ever really got a chance to sink my teeth into. I played MK2 afterwards and didn't like it as much due to it lacking combos and feeling slower.
MK 3 yea it brings something new to the table but it make sense because it’s the newer one between MK 3 and MK 2 of course. MK 1 is the founder of course than MK 2 which new characters and stages, more badass music. My favorite is MK triology tho. It’s the complete package roster wise. But the said could be said for every MK game, they always bring something new to the table, roster wise and gameplay side and everything.
There is clearly a division between the 2D and 3D era of fans. FATE is right though, ALL arcades cabinets were designed to take your money. When home consoles came out, developers had to make changes to make game more viable in the long run. However all the new micro transactions in modern games are complete B.S. Give me the old 2D Era brokenness over the current console pay-to-access-characters nonsense any day.
There might even be a division of 2D era Arcade and 2D era console fans too? 🤷🏻♂️

Honestly shocked we never got an MK MMO.
I think the only issue with that idea, is a non-f2p MMO is a hard sell, and even moreso if its M rated. I mean, they definitely exist, but they aren't as popular as the likes of FF14, or WoW, which have F2P models.
Also, I fear everyone would just make ninjas, kind of like Xenoverse 2, where 90% of the playerbase is just off-colour Gokus and Gohans.
So, here's the truth: classic MK has some jank. Like, a lot of jank. But that jank was overlooked because classic MK is really meant to be more of a savage bloodsport.
Its the video game equivalent of the Dan Severn and Akiyama fight. You're meant to be throwing big punches with wild abandon, with the only goal being to absolutely brutalize your opponent.
And its glorious. Classic MK, despite its blemishes, kicks ass. That jank makes it interesting. Give me MK2 over 3S any day. 3S is technically a better game, but its not as interesting.

Yea, lol. Our boy Booty hunter seems to not like all klassic MK games..But I don’t know it’s just the expression from what I have seen in some of his videos. But I guess we can agree to disagree. But MK 2 was good, good roster with good music and interesting lore of each character at tower endings. The graphics are great for its time, closer to realistic.

Its got decent speed, a few combos enough to put a bit of thought into, the footsies are nice, its just a solid overall mid-paced fighter. It was revolutionary for it's time. I was addicted to it as a kid. I'm sorry, I won't let this crap slide. Ppl going back and bashing on old MKs are dumb. Like how you gonna take your modern-spoiled standards and use them against the grandfathers of what we play now? wtf dude.
Even the first mk is like, yeah its slow and the moon jumps are silly, but it birthed the franchise and paved the way. Not my favorite mk at all, but the worst I'll ever call the first mk is probably "silly". Callin old mk games trash is like going to a baby and being like "haha you can't even tie your shoes you suck" like bro, these old mk games are obviously going to get things wrong. They're the literal first tries and experimentations.

MKII is objectively the best mk game in the series. Yall newer and younger players want everything handed too you with comeback mechanics. Older games took actual skill.
