This is what Evanescence would sound like if.......
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Just about every US reactor experiencing this kind of music for the first time goes : " ..I sort of get an Evanescence vibe from this... "
and every single Nightwish and Operatic Symphonic Metal afficionado around the rest of the world would want to slap them all for such an insult!
Luckily you pin point it spot on!
Beyonce claims she is the " Queen Bee " ,- well, in comparison the full name and titles of this particular reigning European Metal Queen would be something like:
Her Highness The High Priestess Her Grace The Amazonian Valkyrie The Living Morgaine LaFey The Princess Of Darkness The Queen Of The Netherworld Her Majesty
    The Goddess Floor Jansen
    Bow, mortals!

Hello! Since you started this journey, here are some info that may help you navigate (a short history of the band, concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan):
Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a female fronted symphonic metal band. They are from Finland.
Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. Marco Hietala is the Bassist and vocals .And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrulmentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just saw her.
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit live (Floor). I hope this helps.
I want to welcome you to the Nightwish community. I hope you like them enough to continue the journey. Believe me Nightwish will surprise you with their songs. You will never know what to expect. They are unbelievable live. I want to warn you that Nightwish fans are hard core. So be prepared. lol
Another song you may like is "Ever Dream" live at Wacken 2013 ruclips.net/video/YwGSAFarHRg/видео.html . And if you want to hear Floor growling :) then try "Yours Is An Empty Hope" live at Nightwish Baltic Cruise 2015 ruclips.net/video/XtXqUNB8zrU/видео.html
    Thank you!

    Part 1
    Congratulations!
You've just discovered one of the best bands in the world!
Welcome to the beautiful and wonderful world of Nightwish and its huge loving, loyal, very dedicated and ever growing fan community!
If you choose to come with us down this Elvenpath and take this Last Ride Of The Day, you're in for a real musical treat.
Once your senses get tantalised with Élan, you will Shudder Before The Beautiful, let the Dark Passion Play with your emotions and let yourself be filled with wonder and amazement on this epic journey through this Imaginaerum.
Prepare yourself for the End Of Innocence.
Open your heart to the Wishmaster and enjoy exploring everything Nightwish has to offer.
To start off, here's some information for you to get acquainted with the band, it's members, it's history and it's vision.
Nightwish is a female fronted Symphonic Metal band from Kitee, Finland.
It was founded in July 1996 by keyboard player Tuomas (pronunciation: u = w, o as in 'cold') Holopainen (pronunciation: pai like 'pie').
No less than a musical genius, a beautiful sensitive poet and a visionary.
Nightwish gets its name from the song 'Nightwish', one of the first three songs that appeared on the first demo of the band.
Tuomas is the heart, lifeblood, mind and soul of Nightwish.
He is the composer and main lyricist.
He also wrote most of the orchestral arrangements and does most of the mixing as well.
It's fairly safe to say that 95% of everything Nightwish comes from Tuomas.
Tuomas' main influences come from film music, video games and fantasy novels.
He's a passionate gamer and considers himself to be an Escapist.
Tuomas draws inspiration from fantasy novels, including Wishmaster, Escapist, and Wanderlust, which have elements from the Dungeons & Dragons Dragonlance series, and Stephen King's The Dark Tower series among others, but also fairy tales, folklore, myths, saga's, legends, real life, history, nature, religion, science, evolution.
His biggest influence and inspiration is film score composer Hans Zimmer.
Tuomas' greatest ambition is to write film music.
At its inception Nightwish was meant to be a folk band with a keyboard player, an acoustic guitarist and a vocalist.
In 1996 guitarist Erno "Emppu" (pronunciation: pu like 'poo') Vuorinen (pronunciation: i = ee as in 'bee') was the first to join the band, playing acoustic guitar.
Also in 1996 Tuomas asked his then classmate from the music academy, the classically trained female operatic singer Tarja (pronunciation: tar like 'car', j = y as in 'yes') Turunen (pronunciation: both u's = oo as in 'look') to join.
When Tarja was 6 years of age she took piano lessons from Tuomas' mother.
Tuomas was very impressed by the way Tarja had developed her voice into a strong soprano, that he decided Nightwish should be a metal band.
Hence forward they swapped the acoustic guitar for an electric guitar and decided to experiment with drums.
In 1997 Emppu's friend and drummer Jukka (pronunciation: j = y as in 'yes', ukka like 'ooka' as in 'bazooka') Nevalainen (pronunciation: neva like slang for 'never', lai like 'lie') joined.
Finally, in 1998 bass player Sami (pronunciation: sa as in 'elsa', mi like 'me') Vänskä (pronunciation: both ä's = a as in 'van' or 'can') joined.
    Nightwish was complete.
In 2001, due to musical differences and behavioral issues, Sami was replaced by current bassist and great vocalist Marko Hietala (pronunciation: hi like 'he', et as in 'met', ala as in 'massala').
In 2005, due to several serious issues, Tarja was fired from the band.
This will be explained later as the impact of it was so severe that Nightwish almost ceased to exist.
In 2007 Tarja was replaced by pop/rock singer Anette Olzon from Sweden.
In 2012 multi instrumentalist Troy Donockley from the UK, who plays Uilleann pipes (Irish bagpipes), bouzouki, different flutes, acoustic guitar and sings occasionally, was asked to work and perform live with Nightwish on a regular basis.
Also in 2012, due to the main fact that all bands members agreed she vocally did not fit well with the band and the musical direction they were going into, together with the fact that she wasn't accepted very well by the fans and the media, on top of that the facts that she was pregnant and later got hospitalized because of a flu during the North American leg of a world tour and the band almost had to cancel a show, Anette was fired and temporarily replaced by the current and most versatile singer of them all, Floor Jansen (pronunciation: j = y as in 'yes', a as in 'car') from the Netherlands.
In 2013 both Troy and Floor became official members.
In 2014, due to health issues (insomnia), Jukka left the band temporarily and was replaced by his good friend and current drummer Kai Hahto (formerly Wintersun).
As it turned out, in 2019 Jukka's temporary absence became permanent and Kai became an official member.
Till this day Jukka remains very much involved with the band behind the scenes.
This makes Nightwish complete as it is at this moment.
    To be continued ...

I stumbled into Nightwish around 2004, heard them covering Gary Moore's Over the Hills and Far Away, oh yeah...this is the shit. Listened to more and fell in love. Their first singer, Tarja Turennen is a full blown, trained from the age of 6, opera singer. She already had a rep in the opera world when she fell in with the Keyboard player Tuomas(who is the main composer) and formed Nightwish('96). Due to irreconcilable differences, the band divorced her in '06. She was followed by Annette Olzon, who deserves props for having the balls to follow Tarja, she has her fans, but for me, after seeing her live...meh. Floor arrived suddenly in 2012, midway thru the Imaginarium tour. Annette was pregnant and unable to continue, Floor flew into Salt Lake city, and the band went on to Seattle, where 48 hrs or so after her sister's wedding in Holland, Floor stepped on stage, and owned it. She had to learn everything during soundcheck. There's a cool documentary "Can you Learn The Setlist in 48 hours?" Everything about Nightwish is dramatic and larger than life, and if get into it, you can never leave. I'm 66, and come from back in the day, never in my life have I ever been a fanboy, I know more about this band than any other in my life, I know...maybe counseling....nah, fuck that, truly a unique sound for the discerning ear(and mind).

Fans are relentless. In a good way. 20+ years. 3 different lead singers. 2 different drummers. Anyone of which. Is the kiss of death for other bands. But still sell out stadiums. With tens of millions of fans worldwide. Hopefully see more nightwish reactions from you.

Floor Jansen is the third female Vocalist of Nightwish. She is from The Netherlands. Her first band that she auditiond for when she was 16 is "After Forever". After that band disolved in 2009 she started her own metalband called "Revamp", In 2012 she was asked to step in for Annete Olzon (Swedish), who is the second female vocalist of "Nightwish" who sings in her own band "Dark Element" now. Floor Jansen became the permanent female vocal of "Nightwish" in 2013 and stopped her band Revamp in 2016 🐱‍👤😎👍

That concert you are watching had 82000 people there! Don't go for either of the other two epics just yet (poet and the pendulum and Greatest show on earth at 24 minutes), get stuck into some heavier songs. Romanticide is a favourite, shudder before the beautiful, Yours is an empty hope has floor growling... keep going with a few more songs by Nightwish, by song #4 you will be hooked. The discography of the Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish consists of eight studio albums, one extended play, five live albums, seven compilations, thirteen music videos and twenty one singles. The band was formed in 1996 by songwriter and keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen, guitarist Emppu Vuorinen, and former vocalist Tarja Turunen; Nightwish's current line-up has six members although Turunen has been replaced by Anette Olzon and later by Floor Jansen, and the original bassist, Sami Vänskä, has been replaced by Marco Hietala, who also took over the male vocalist part

When I recently got into them, I had to go back to the beginning and follow their evolution. That's how I like to learn about bands. Their early stuff is like operatic power metal. A live TV appearance from 1999 is their earliest known footage if you want to see where they started.

I see other people has already explained some facts about the band, so I'll just add some backstory about this particular moment. Floor Jansen had a burnout when she was with her band ReVamp, they had to cancel all concerts. She said "she ran out of batteries", she was physically and mentally exhausted (she has been singing since she was 18 with her fisrst band After Forever). For a long time she couldn't even sing. When Nightwish fired Anette they asked her to join the band as a temporary singer, at first she wasn't sure (she was OK but still recovering) but she didn't have much time to think about it and in 48 hours she joined the band to finish the USA tour. In her own words, they were in "survival mode", they just wanted to finish the tour no matter what. She did a fantastic job, everybody was happy and the fans liked her immediately. So they finished the world tour and the big metal festivals in Europe (Wacken is one of the biggest ones). After the festivals, she wasn't supposed to continue as the singer, it was just a temporary thing (she still had her own band ReVamp) so this one was supposed to be one of the last concerts with Nightwish. And also, she has stated many times that "Ghost Love Score" is her favorite song from Nightwish and she always gets very emotional.
So... magic happened that night. That's why this version is so emotional and everybody is crazy about it, it's not just about the epic music or the incredible voice, there's pure, raw, authentic emotion here.

Actually they asked her to join the band permanently after a couple of weeks already (which she accepted) but told her to keep it secret until further notice. The reason was they wanted to wait until things had calmed down. It did not come up for a long time until Tuomas was working on the crediting of the concert DVD (that this clip from) and realized she had not been official announced yet. It felt ridiculous to put in something guest vocalist because she was accepted by the band and crew as a member for months.

well ..basically Nightwish is a band from Finland of the symphonic metal genre, that since 1996 is on the scene.
    It is the most popular
    of his genre.
    they had three singers
tarja (his voice was completely liric)
    Anette (more a pop voice)
and currently Floor (the best singer that Nightwish can have in my opinion, because she is extremely versatile, his vocal range is impressive)
the leader and composer of the band is Tuomas (the keyboardist)
If you keep listening to this band, you will understand why many call him "The master

I haven't read all the comments, so I will just leave my part here.. It's a long read, but you asked to be informed.. I will do my best..
Nightwish has formed in 1996 by Tuomas Holopainen (Keys and songwriting, but also composes most of the songs) and Emppu Vuorinen (Guitarist) and former lead singer Tarja Turunen. The former drummer Jukka Nevalainen and former bass player Sami Vänskä soon joined the band. In 1997 they released there first album called Angels Fall First.
After this release they were having succes in Finland, where they are from, but it didn't take off before releasing Oceanborn in 1998. After that the Wishmaster album dropped in 2000 and in 2002 Century Child saw the light. Fans of the first hour would probably still tell you those three albums are still the most loved.
At this point Nightwish is doing great in Europe, but still haven't made it to the American market. That changed all in 2004 when they released the album called Once. The single Wish I had an Angel was showed on MTV.
They produced three more singles and two music videos for the Once album, as well as a re-recording of the song Sleeping Sun for the compilation album, Highest Hopes: The Best of Nightwish, before Turunen's dismissal in October 2005. Wait what?! Dismissal? Yes. If you ask any fan before 2005 you will get a different break down on how this all went. I will give you the "official" statement. In short came down to the fact Tarja was already speaking of leaving the band the next year (2006) for a solo career, also there were talks she and the band were not on the same page of the direction they would go to. On top off that there were suppose to be some problems between her manager and also husband. So the band fired her, with an open letter, (you see the link in Romanticide) after the show recorded for the live album/DVD End of an Era.
Since Tarja and Tuomas were growing up together, as you can imagine, there was much to lose emotionally. The thing was he had the feeling that he was most to blame for letting her go. After this things went bad. There were fans throwing Tuomas under the bus. He destroyed Nightwish according to them, even tough the music and lyrics mostly came from him. Fans were saying that Tarja didn't deserve to be treated this way, etc. This made him very depressed and he was having suicidal thoughts. He wrote a song about it called Poet and the Pendulum (if you want to react to this song, please do some others first, make sure you do do the Wembley 2016 version of it.). In this song he describes the impact this part of his life had on him.
2 years went by without very little news. You would read somewhere Tuomas was writing music but that was about it. Then in may of 2007 the word dropped Anette Olzon joined the band to replace Tarja. That September, the band released their sixth album, Dark Passion Play. The album's lead single, Amaranth, became one of their most successful in songs Europe. The supporting tour, one of their largest, started on October 6, 2007 and ended on September 19, 2009. They released an EP/live album, Made in Hong Kong (And in Various Other Places), in March of 2009 as a CD/DVD, and their seventh studio album, Imaginaerum, was released in late 2011.
Anette was not much liked by the early fans. Of course she did bring some new ones too but that seemed not to cover the fans lost. Reason for this was mostly because of her sound. Tarja is a soprano with a very own sound. This is what made Nightwish so great and stand apart from other female fronted metalbands. SInce Anette sounded way more pop and could not deliver the same kind of notes as Tarja did, she was not accepted by those old fans.
On October 1, 2012, the announcement was made that they had parted ways with Olzon for what I understand she wants to be more with her family and start her own. Nightwish would be finishing the tour with, at that time, ReVamp vocalist (ex-After Forever) Floor Jansen. In October 2013 (You see how short she was with the band at that Wacken show) they made Jansen, and longtime session uilleann pipes player Troy Donockley, permanent members of the band. They were featured in the acclaimed album Endless Forms Most Beautiful, released on March 27, 2015.
On July 15, 2019, it was announced on the band's Facebook page that Kai Hahto would be permanently taking over from Jukka Nevalainen as the band's drummer; in a statement, Nevalainen explained that whilst he was managing his insomnia very well and having few issues, he did not want to 'push his luck' by returning to the band as a full-time member. He did confirm, however, that he would continue in his role taking care of band-related business behind the scenes.
I discovered them late 2002 I would say. Saw them live with Tarja in 2004 and 2005. Saw them live at Wacken 2005, still with Tarja. In 2008 at Wacken with Anette and 2009 as well. With Floor I saw them in 2013 at Alcatraz Festival.
My recommendations to songs you need to react to?
    - Romanticide at Wacken 2013
    - Song of Myself at Wacken 2013
    - Ghost River at Wacken 2013
    - Ever Dream at Wacken 2013
    - She's My Sin at Wacken 2013
    - Dark Chest of Wonders at Wacken 2013
    - I Want My Tears Back at Wacken 2013
    - Last Ride of the Day at Wacken 2013
    - Poet and the Pendulum at Wembley 2016
    - The Greatest Show on Earth at Tampere 2015 (this one.. hold back for as long as you can.. kind of a masterpiece..)
So, this is my part of information about Nightwish. If you've read it, a like would be kinda nice.. not that you need to, but hey..

Nice Reaction! FYI, yours is like the 215th Reaction to this song on RUclips. NW was establish in 1996. There was 82,000+ in the audience at that year's annual W'V'acken open air Metal Festival, in Germany. The Flaming Bull head is the symbol of the Festival. As Waken is/was famous for it's dairy and beef cattle. The festival itself sits in the the middle of farmland. Which is used to graze cattle on for all but two-three weeks a year. When they are setting up, during and tearing down the festival. The organ pipes are just a fanciful facade. Ghost Love Score was the 13th of 15 songs that Nightwish performed that night. Like most, I'm sure you will around to reacting some of the other 14. They were that year's (2013) headliners. Being the last of over 50+ bands that performed at the 4-day Event. At the time of this concert Floor had been with Nightwish for little over 10 months

Her name is Floor Jansen* (Dutch) She has a classical vocal background education and can sing any style she likes from jazz to opera high to growling low. Believe me when i tell you you have not even scratched the surface yet of what she's capable of. The clip was shot a few months after Floor jointed the band right in the middle of their US leg of the world tour. They asked her to join after tensions between the previous (Anette) vocalist and the rest of the band had rissen so high that they fired her. With close to a year still to go to complete the tour, and their next concert planned 2 day later they, needed a replacement fast. They called Floor because she had toured with them when she was part of the support bands"After Forever" and later "Revamp" on several occasions and they were quiet impressed by her vocals (who would not be?). She only had 2 days, including a flight from the Netherlands to the US, to learn the setlist and only had one rehearsal with the band a couple of hours before her first show and nailed it. Since they were making a documentary about the world-tour a lot of what happened was recorded. The documentary is called "Please learn the setlist in 48 hours" (ruclips.net/video/vhExkmWKMEU/видео.html )
If you want to take a look at how ridiculously versatile she is take a look at Dutch TV program she participated with singing covers. The first one to take a look at is "Shallow" a Lady Gaga song. ruclips.net/video/M68pe4a_9zk/видео.html

The 3rd and current singer Floor Jansen first performed with them 10 months before this. She wasn't given permanent status until the end of the tour (a couple weeks later).
She was originally in After Forever (1997-2009) until the band broke up. She then formed Revamp (2010-2016) until disbanding them because Nightwish taking all her time. Last year she released a hard rock studio side project with the guitarist from Pagans Mind called Northward.
Also, she is currently on a Dutch TV show Beste Zangers. A group of singers from different genres sing each other's music. The first episode was last week, featuring the music of The Netherlands biggest opera singer. Link to Floor's performance ruclips.net/video/lcLG5X1i2QM/видео.html

Nightwish has so many flavours, so it's difficult to know them via just one song. Keyboard player is the composer behind the music and he is fan of film music. Lately they have included folk elements for their music as well. They have found their very own sound and style that is difficult to describe. Try "stargazers" (maybe Tampere live) for the feel of the older stuff. "Ghost river" for quite heavy music theatre singing exchange between bassist and Lead singer (wacken 2013 version). "I want my tears back" for their irish flavour, since they have folk music player in the band as well (wacken 2013 version).

The music is called symphonic metal and i very populair in Europe and South America. The band is from Finland and founded 1996. So far the band has had 3 vocalists
1 Tarja Turunen (Finish) pure opera voice also very good live. (until 2005)
2 Anette Olzon (Schwedish) more pop style. fine in the studio but not good live. (until 2012)
3 Floor Jansen* (Dutch) (current). * She is the vocalist you saw in this clip. She has a classical vocal background education and can sing any style she likes from jazz to opera high to growling low. Believe me when i tell you you have not even scratched the surface yet of what she's capable of.
    Band members
Tuomas Holopainen (The keyboard player and creative mind behind the band. He writes about 95% of the music and lyrics)
Marco Hietela (the viking with the long beard (Bass and vocals)
    Jukka "Julius" Nevalainen (The drummer)
Erno "Emppu" Vuorinen (the hobbit like guitar player)
Troy Donockley ( a person who did not play on this song but is a multi instrumentalist from the UK)
The clip was shot a few months after Floor jointed the band right in the middle of their US leg of the world tour. They asked her to join after tensions between the previous (Anette) vocalist and the rest of the band had rissen so high that they fired her. I think Nightwish is probably the best live band in the world right now. It is a tight race with Rammstein but personally I think they have too much going on. The show part almost swallows the music and lyrics part. Nightwish keeps more clearly the focus on the music, lyrics and a journey of emotions which I like.

They have been around for approximately 22 - 23 years and they are the absolute top of symphonic metal - also in the US.
I think you should react to 7 days of the wolves from Wembley 2016, it heavier and one of their most under-rated songs.
Or the Poet and the Pendulum, also from Wembley 2016. That is a masterpiece that shows their unique ability to put emotions into lyrics so the crowd gets it. It is a one of a kind piece of music - but a lot of their songs are unique.
Also Greatest Show on Earth is unique, but you are not ready for that.

Flaming Bull head is the Wacken symbol.... The guy walking around grabbing everyones' arms is Emppu the magical hobbit (5"3") on guitar!!.....HA! Evanescence reference is great! Evanescence started 1995, Nightwish in 1996 BUT Nightwish had four albums out before "Fallen" was released.

You are right, my good man, Nightwish all ready had 3 albums before Evanescence started to record, but this singer started in the same year when Nightwish released their first album with her own band After Forever, and she was 16 at that time :D She have more metal side with her second band ReVamp, if you are up for her growls u can check Wild Cart.

Those wood pipes are for hiding the three keyboards he has. They serve no other function.
Nightwish was formed by Tuomas Holopainen in 1996.
Watch the opener 'Dark Chest Of Wonders' it's the fastest song in the set.

Okay here's the skinny on Nightwish. Floor is the third singer, believe it or not The Phantom of the Opera performance was Tarja's (the first singers) last performance before the band had to let her go. The reason being that she never really felt like this was her path. Originally, when Nightwish was formed it was going to be more of a classical band. Tuomas, the keyboardist and composer of all their music noting Tarja's operatic training brought her into the fold and basically formed the band around her voice. The idea for the band originally was going to be a more classical type of band. Being that they were all good friends and growing up together, it was very hard for them when she started to drift away, missing the practices and started making statements about leaving the band. Some credit her being influenced by her businessman husband Marcelo Cabuli, who was incidentally overheard on numerous occasions making statements that "Tarja was the face of Nightwish" and that she "could do much better without the band". Floor was actually the 'fill in' singer back when Tarja started missing the practices. Then they hired Anette and she was with them for a time until the whole debacle at the Denver concert when they all go seriously sick and she had to be rushed to the emergency room... then she broke her ankle in a fall when she was pregnant. At that point Anette just wanted to heal, have her baby and be close to home. So they moved Floor to the position of lead singer. The song The Poet and The Pendulum, which was written and wholly composed by Tuomas, was all about the dark time around when they had to ask Tarja to leave. Tuomas and the band suffered depression over their feelings of betrayal, especially Tuomas who was affected the most, to the point that the band, family, and friends were worried about him committing suicide. You can see in The Poet and The Pendulum that it's his journey working through that depression, those dark times. The Poet and The Pendulum was Tuoman's written suicide, instead of the actual act. The very last words of the song are about forgiveness, love and making a fresh start, "In the end I will always love you....The beginning". So very very hauntingly beautiful. IF you haven't seen it, you really need to. It is one of the most hauntingly beautiful songs ever written. ruclips.net/video/gbn9GczYBkw/видео.html
