Hello Steve O'G [Reacts] ! Nightwish fans here, your musical quest summoned us. Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band, performing at Wacken Open Air in 2013, together with Floor Jansen, the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K+ audience. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [The 1st Bassist of the band was Sami Vanska, he was with them until 2001. The 2nd one was Marco Hietala, as Bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least - we'll see what the future brings to us. Then very recently (May 2021) Jukka Koskinen became the 3nd Bassist of the band, for at least the Human :II: Nature tour] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps. I want to welcome you to the Nightwish community. I hope you like them enough to continue the journey. Believe me Nightwish will surprise you with their songs. You will never know what to expect. They are unbelievable live. I want to warn you that Nightwish fans are hard core. So be prepared. lol " Hoping you'll continue this journey with us, I'll drop here a list of songs (with links) with the current lineup of the band you may like (please consider this list of links only as "a tip of the iceberg", an indication that they have a vast and very diverse repertoire, and not as something mandatory): "Romanticide" live at Wacken 2013 (metal) ruclips.net/video/zz_7OCCQlXs/видео.html "Ever Dream" live at Wacken 2013 (uplifting vocals) ruclips.net/video/1Xi4n8dJcF8/видео.html "Storytime" live at Wacken 2013 (uplifting vocals) ruclips.net/video/pvkYwOJZONU/видео.html "Song Of Myself" live at Wacken 2013 (dark/metal) ruclips.net/video/lQu5QjidHWg/видео.html "Dead Boy's Poem" - live Buenos Aires 2018 (soulful ballad) ruclips.net/video/S8E3L7ggLMM/видео.html "Ghost River" live at Wacken 2013 (metal) ruclips.net/video/05eitd-EA6I/видео.html "Dark Chest Of Wonders" live at Wacken 2013 (metal, the greatest show opener ever) ruclips.net/video/OvOD6xecph4/видео.html "My Walden" live at Wembley 2015 (celtic / folk) ruclips.net/video/knqeI807ZlY/видео.html "Sleeping Sun" live at Vizovice Masters of Rock festival 2016 (ballad) ruclips.net/video/pVPTUEW1PEM/видео.html "The Islander" live at Tampere 2015 (Marco in charge..) ruclips.net/video/Zo8ncK_5kzc/видео.html "Stargazer" live at Tampere 2015 (operatic vocals / metal) ruclips.net/video/NhEuAPYm_Ug/видео.html "Alpenglow" live at Wembley 2015 (uplifting / metal) ruclips.net/video/FrJvKZNEh7g/видео.html "Sahara" live at Tampa 2016 (middle eastern vibe) ruclips.net/video/lTvYfLa4Wlk/видео.html "Slaying The Dreamer" live at Buenos Aires 2018 (metal) ruclips.net/video/wA44tjaP5n0/видео.html "I Want My Tears Back" live at Buenos Aires 2018 (celtic / folk vibe) ruclips.net/video/TBOdgxjb0kM/видео.html "Devil & The Deep Dark Ocean" live In Buenos Aires 2018 (metal) ruclips.net/video/t26r_vAYQ0Q/видео.html "Weak Fantasy" live at Tampere 2015 (dark metal) ruclips.net/video/AN239Pbqbjo/видео.html "7 Days To The Wolves" live at Wembley 2015 (dark metal) ruclips.net/video/XvsfwAPbWXc/видео.html And if you want to be surprised by Floor's vocals :) then try "Yours Is An Empty Hope" live at Mexico City in 2015 ruclips.net/video/DuwY1d-KIss/видео.html @Nightwish Arena: Since most of the reactors end up doing a lot of reactions from Wacken 2013 concert, they should be warned that there are a lot of slowed down and even high pitched versions of this concert, so it is better to use only official videos or this version of the whole concert: ruclips.net/video/cAwtzi7Q3Bk/видео.html Last but not the least - they released their 9th studio album on April 10th 2020 named "Human :||: Nature" - just take a peek to their official playlist: ruclips.net/p/PLihZ3gi5Yvzc0pfH2cbNKUUX8o3pb8eVg (for example: "Shoemaker", the 3rd track from this album, tells the story of Eugene Shoemaker, one of the founders of planetary science, whose ash was sent on the Moon after his death, as a tribute from the scientific community ..) The links presented above are with the current singer of the band, Floor Jansen, since I'm a fan of the recent era of the band, with Floor as the singer. That being said, I will add here the messages left the other days by some old fans of the band. @Fabrizio Gorla: To be fair to the old fanbase, you may want to include also some of these songs. * The Tarja era *: Nightwish - Wishmaster [Live] ruclips.net/video/eJTlH521E6w/видео.html Nightwish - End Of All Hope [live 2002] ruclips.net/video/ESlyjQl90p0/видео.html NIGHTWISH - The Phantom Of The Opera ruclips.net/video/tL25rbnvM4o/видео.html Nightwish - Dark Chest Of Wonder [Live End Of An Era 2005] ruclips.net/video/ROdKrGVVuI8/видео.html Nightwish - The Siren [Live End Of An Era 2005] ruclips.net/video/LUy8T_3kieI/видео.html @DeeDee80: Gabriel, would be good to add in the Tarja list "Pharaoh Sails To Orion" ruclips.net/video/ZpkH187t5Mk/видео.html . You've been FLOORGASMED !!!!! This is EPIC. You need to know what it means to BUILD a song along for a spectacular finish. This was truly a PERFORMANCE! What have you done, my friend? Making comments and critiques of geniuses in the field. No one will remember YOUR name....but NIGHTWISH with FLOOR JANSEN will be remembered long after we're all gone!
If you want to hear a more heavier side of Nightwish try Romanticide, Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean, Slaying the Dreamer or Yours is an Empty Hope (the singer Floor growls in this one). Nightwish can do it all ❤️
Thanks for recommendations Diana! I definitely need to hear something else from them. Of course one song isn’t enough to give a good picture of a band. There have been a few mentions of Romanticide from others so I suspect that’ll be my next song of theirs to check out.
Plenty of people want the heavier side of nightwish... they go alllllll the way from acoustic ballads to thrash to rival anything Metallica or pantera have done, the sheer range of what this band does at an insanely high level is just unfair. Floor does death metal growls in a couple of songs. Would recommend Romanticide from the same concert to get a taste of what NW can do. Ghost Love score is a gentle one by their standards. Its a score, after all.
@@SteveOGRock The song is "Yours is an Empty Hope" - live version, obviously. ruclips.net/video/vyLsU7Q333k/видео.html Just keep an eye on who is growling and who is doing the clean vocals!
@@SteveOGRock If you like the heavier side symphonic metal then there is only one band to check out: Epica. They are Dutch (like Nightwish singer Floor Jansen) and have a brilliant singer of their own Simone Simons. Epica is by far the heaviest style of symphonic metal with deathmetal guitars, growling, classical, opera and Eastern influences. And all that combined with beautiful melodious opera style singing from Simone and brilliant musicians, compositions and lyrics. They even have some ballads. Simone sounds like an angel and her voice together with Floor's is considered by many to be the very best in this genre. Nightwish and Epica are the top two bands in this genre. Recommedations would be to start Epica journey with: -Consign to Oblivion (live at Zenith) -Kingdom of Heaven (live) -The Essence of Silence (live in Brussels) -Design your Universe (live) -Stabat Mater Dolorosa (Simone Simons with Floor Jansen) (live at retrospect) -Sancta Terra (featuring Floor as guest singer) (live at retrospect)
This is typically given as an introduction to the band, showing a variety of styles, and some example of Floor’s voice. Its more of an epic, theatrical piece. Definitely give Romanticide a listen, much heavier, edgier, complex. And shorter. This band, from Finland, (almost Nordic) will surprise you if you keep exploring. Hope to see you do more. #NWArmy-Texas
Hello there! Nightwish Iowa here, and welcome to Nightwish! I am glad to hear you give some of your musical experience and insight, it really shows you can appreciate the depth of the music and song. Again, welcome!
Nightwish Army, New Zealand Division reporting. I have been a metal fan for years (actually decades) and I agree, this isn't classic metal, but I really like it for what it is. In fact, I would say this is my favourite rock song, and has been for a while now. Thanks for your interesting reaction.
I always thought Deep Purple 'Child in Time' or Zeppelin's 'You Shook Me' were the most epic vocals, but now? I'm pretty much a Nightwish/Floor convert - especially for this actual performance - it is both incredibly well performed, but excellently recorded - as in it seems studio quality - and that's rare!
Another Deep Purple fan here! In those days, Gillan's voice was matched by none. God, how pure he sounded in that Concerto... so pristine, so beautiful.
@@campycampbell7466 Maybe, maybe not. I am a huge, HUGE Deep Purple fan and I am 46. Not your typical age for a die-hard Purple fan, but hey, here I am! And, I must agree, Floor took me by surprise as I thought no one could ever move me like Gillan did the first time I heard _Child in Time._ Then, along comes Floor and... well, damn. I haven't been the same since.
I had the same feelings until I stumbled on After Forever in 1997, in a music house, with a long tall teenager in front, with a stage energy and a voice far beyond what we ever expected. They made different covers of everything from Europe to Queen - and her voice could actually match the songs. And later on when Floor joined Nightwish - the foundation of the greatest band ever, was made. And her voice has evolved immensely since her early days, where she was just "incredibly talented"...
You wouldn't judge the Rolling Stones after listening to Emotional Rescue, so please be open to more of their catalogue. They WILL blow you away given the chance.
There is a reason why the song is called Ghost Love *_Score_* as this particular song is meant to be like a movie score. This band has a wide variety of styles, while maintaining it's own unique sound, so there are plenty of things with a much harder and heavier side to it if you are more interested in that aspect. Romanticide from the same concert has a good deal of thrashy riffs and Yours is an Empty Hope from Wembley has a lot of gritty heaviness to it. The lead singer, Floor Jansen, is extremely diverse in what she can do and you'll even hear her growling in some places.
Enjoyed that reaction, and nice to hear that whilst maybe not your cup of tea you can still appreciate the music and vocals for what they are. I hope you continue your journey with Nightwish as its a very, very, very deep rabbit hole encompassing 3 singers and a huge breadth of music styles and sounds.
It builds and builds. Of course they also have their fair share of standard songs "text, refrain, text, refrain, bridge, refrain" But the composing is just so well done.
Floor, valkarie , Siren, Goddess in leather, Succubus, whatever you choose, and you would be right. When the old sailors steered their ships into the rock following an ethereal voice, this was it. I love her so much.
Originally Floor was sent by Allfather Odhinn to Midgard to gather the souls of fallen warriors to Valhalla, but she got distracted and joined a series of bands. However, Floor still gathers souls by her grace, beauty and the sheer power of her vocals. We give thanks for her at our Blots regularly and hope that Odhinn won't notice that she has never returned to Asgard. ALL HAIL THE VALKYRIE GODDESS!!! The Nightwish Army is incoming! Nightwish Army Central Florida Black Company reporting for duty!
Thanks for the honest reaction! 👍🤘 Allow me to change your mind on Nightwish "Being your cup of tea", next I would ask you to react to "Romanticide" from Wacken 2013 (same set as this one) and see what your thoughts are then.😉 In the meantime, info dump for you below!😁 Nightwish is a glorious rabbit hole of awesome, with world class song-writing, musicianship and arguably (or unarguably to most who've heard her enough😉) the best and most versatile female vocalist alive today (maybe ever), the Valkyrie Queen of metal herself Floor Jansen (pronounced Yansen). Floor is a classically trained soprano and has a vocal range of more than 3 octaves (D3 to F6+). Floor is the third female vocalist that Nightwish have had (and my personal favourite), she was only with them on tour for 10 months at this point and officially joined the band in 2013, she is still with them today. The other vocalists are - Tarja Turunen - (1996-2005) - (Finland) - Very operatic focused vocals. Anette Olzon - (2007-2012) - (Sweden) - More pop-centric vocals. Floor Jansen - (2012-Present) - (Netherlands) - Extremely diverse vocals, from deep growls to full on opera. The other band members are/were - Tuomas Holopainen - Song writer/composer and Keyboards. (Finland) Marko Hietala - Bassist and vocals. (Finland) Emppu Vuorinen - Guitarist (Finland) Jukka Nevalainen - Drums (Finland) Retired in 2014 due to health issues Troy Donockley - Multi-instrumentalist and Vocals. (United Kingdom) Kai Hahto - Drums (Finland) - 2014 to Present Floor herself is Dutch and is another glorious goldmine of awesome as she has a lot of non-Nightwish related stuff (including 2 other bands, After Forever & ReVamp) that she has done that is all pretty amazing as well. She is also an absolutely lovely, funny, smart and grounded person (in fact all the band members are exceedingly down to earth individuals). She has her own channel here on RUclips where she regularly posts covers of songs. The band was formed in 1996 by lead songwriter/composer and keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen. The name of the genre they generally belong to is Symphonic Metal but their discography is extremely varied. The "Symphonic" backing tracks of their music is composed in the majority by Tuomas and performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra. This was the 13th song in this particular set, Floor is belting notes like that the entire set. Nighwish are almost always better experienced with live versions of their songs if at all possible. Most new reactors are better off sticking with the Wacken 2013 set to begin with as it offers a taste of a lot of what Nightwish has to offer, they have multiple concerts though all of which are superb. Some suggestions for more songs for you to continue your journey would be Romanticide, Storytime, Ghost River, I Wish I had an Angel, Song of Myself, Ever Dream, Dark Chest of Wonders, I Want My Tears Back and Amaranth all from Wacken 2013 (pronounced Vacken). Saying that, anything from Wacken 2013 is golden really to start, there's a reason why that set is pretty legendary at this point, 82,000 people were in attendance. Beware of some messed up slowed down versions of the Wacken 2013 songs as they can take the energy right out of the performances, just check the comments on them and I'm sure someone will mention if it's a slowed down version. Your choice obviously but I'd avoid Poet and the Pendulum and The Greatest Show on Earth for now until you are more familiar with the band and it's history, they will make a lot more sense and be more enjoyable for you that way. Prepare for the Nightwish army to arrive and enjoy your Nightwish journey, I know I did!😎🤘
Great reaction. Floor Jansen is a vocal athlete with incredible range, versatility, vocal stamina, and stage presence. She is a spinto soprano with a range of almost four octaves (D3-G#5-F6). When listening to her sing, it is apparent that she has spent the better part of her life fine-tuning her instrument with help from several vocal coaches. Floor can sing in multiple languages and genres and is a Master vocal coach. It is incredible how she is able to take any song from any genre and make it her own. This woman is a true gift to her craft and an incredible addition to a band that has always been great until 2013 when they officially hired the undisputed Queen of Metal, Floor Jansen, making Nightwish the greatest band on the planet. Welcome to the Nightwish rabbit hole. Nightwish Army U.S.A. 🤘🏽 ( Urban Operators ) in the house.
Welcome to symphonic metal. This was my first song that hooked me and started me down the rabbit hole. I am a big fan of te symphonic elements and how their music connects with me emotionally. As others have mentioned Nightwish covers lots of different styles which is part of what makes them so impressive. Others have recommended Nightwish songs that you might enjoy more. Also checkout Floor's side project Northward which is straight forward rock'n'roll.
Solid drummer. I find the level of angle he has his snare drum to be sheer madness though. I like mine to be as horizontal as possible. Each to their own though!
Try "Storytime", "Romanticide" or "Yours is an empty hope" for example to get a more edgy/rough sound of Nightwish ;) GLS isn´t for everyone but most people don´t realise that they hear a 10 minute song while they´re listening. Reactions are often like "that didn´t feel like 10 minutes" :D EDIT: Or just check out Gabriels list ^^
You've just entered one of the biggest and most surprising rabbitholes there is at this moment.. Not in the least because they changed their frontwoman 2 times. And their songs aren't 'lookalikes', there is so much variation. So succes en enjoy.
Floor jansen the Queen of metal ♥is a classic trained and professional voice coach with at least 20 years experience and can do anything from death metal growling to high opera notes, her previous bands After Forever, Northward and Revamp and she was also featured in several Ayreon live shows and a Dutch reality show Beste zangers 2019 and 2021,awesome thanks 😊
Song of Myself, Ghost River, Romanticide and Yours is an Empty Hope are just some more popular heavier ones that might suit you more. Thank you for the reaction 😁👍
Oh yes!!! ✌🔥💃😍 Yes they sure can build up! Take a listen to "Yours is an empty hope", "Devil and the deep dark ocean" or "Romanticide". There's a few to start with 😉
Your reaction was similar to mine when I first heard it during lockdown/Spring 2019 but now it's part of me. Love it! And I'd say her vocal style is more classical than operatic but I'm picking nits on that because she's capable of doing both. Romanticide and Song Of Myself from the same concert are a couple songs that might be more in your wheelhouse - hope to see you react to them soon. Be well!
Thanks Campy! Yeah I think classical is a fair shout here. I don’t always use the right words during reactions. Hard to get it correct all the time but doing me best =)
You have found the right band man. Nightwish can´t be put into a box when it comes to style. They have some really awesome tunes you just need to check out. It will probably shock you when you see their other sides. Thanks for the reaction :)
Your comments are all perfectly valid, the interlude is included in the original album. This one of the three really epic songs that they have performed and is often suggested as a first listen as many aspects of her vocal ability are on show. For heavier and shorter at this concert try Romanticide, Song of Myself, or the opener Dark Chest of Wonders. Maybe "Yours is an Empty Hope" at Wembley 2015
Private Marshall Nightwish Army reporting for duty. Glad you enjoyed it. There is so much more. If Nightwish were the Beatles, this would be hey Jude. This entire concert can be reacted to from the beginning, one song at a time. There are no bad songs and each one you hear is very different from the other. I promise you will be blown away by songs like, Song of Myself, Ghost River, Romanticide, and my favorite, Bless the Child . That might sound strange to you because you may be thinking that one song will give you the bands style. Oh no my friend. This is unlike anything you have ever known. We have seen it over and over again. This is a live band. This is a rarity that the live music is better than the engineered versions. Stick with live. General Gabriel should arrive to give you a road map and a history to help you on this most magical of journeys. A few of my suggestions outside of this concert venue, Yours is an empty Hope, Wembley. (The cruise ship video is not as good) How's the heart, Planet Rock Acoustic version and I want my tears back, Buenos Aires Argentina. Enjoyed your reaction and Audio/Visual presentation. Welcome to the world of Nightwish
The great thing about Nightwish is that no matter what mood you are in, they have a song for you. They range from pure bangers to beautiful ballads, but all of them are amazing in their own way.
Lovely to have you here, thanks for saying so! I strive to find the positives in any music I listen to… but I will always prioritise honesty and a genuine point of view that I truly believe in. Great to hear that this is valued by others such as yourself too.
Hello! Thank you for the video! Please pay attention to the young singer Diana Ankudinova.Make reactions to the songs of Wicked game, CAN'T HELP FALLING IN LOVE, Human🌞🌞🌞DIANA ANKUDINOVA is a talented young singer. I would like to know your opinion. I think you will be surprised. Diana has a very unusual voice and artistic presentation for her age.🌹🌹🌹 Thanks in advance
Nightwish Shadow Unit from Estonia reporting in ! Valkyrie Goddess spotted ! Gabriel Bardac entered ! Floor her name is derived from the Roman Goddess of Spring, Flora. Floor Jansen is called the Valkyrie Goddess of Metal and Empathy. Floor Jansen is a soprano, with a range of more than 4 octaves (Eb2 to F6) She can sing from classical to belting and raspy vocals like screaming and death growls. And she's also a voice coach and teacher to boot. Floor Jansen was the singer of the Dutch metal band After Forever from 1997 to early 2009. From 1999 she studied at the Rockacademie in Tilburg with classmates Jacqueline Govaert and Danny Vera, where she graduated in 2003. In addition to her activities at After Forever, she gave singing lessons. She plays guitar, piano and flute. On May 5, 2010, she presented her new band ReVamp, which was disbanded in September 2016. From 1 October 2012 Jansen replaced Anette Olzon as singer of Nightwish during the Imaginaerum World Tour. On October 9, 2013, it was announced that she would be the group's regular new front singer. In 2015, Nightwish released the album Endless Forms Most Beautiful with Jansen as lead singer. Nightwish's second studio album with Jansen as front singer, Human. :II: Nature., was released in April 2020. This was recorded at the 2013 Wacken ( pronounced Vahken) Open Air festival in Germany in front of an audience of 82,000 people. The fiery bull head is the symbol of the festival. We hope, that there is more coming. 🤘😎🤘.
song was originally made for a full time operatic singer in Tarja but now Floor has made it her own. should try Romanticide, Greatest Show On Earth, Showtime as 3 options. even try The Islander or Pink Floyd's High Hopes cover where Marco (Bassist) sings them 2.
Proud of my fellow Dutchy Floor Jansen. Other "I react to" videos also reacted to "Floor Jansen & Henk Poort - Phantom Of The Opera | Beste Zangers 2019". Best part about that performance is that you'll hear Floor - as metal singer - sing Opera, while Henk Poort - an opera singer - sing in a metal grunt at some point, something he had to learn for this performance :P
Love it - NightFish 😆 Emppu is drinking Corona. Talk about damning with faint praise - its alright for what it is. Yes they're quite good. For what they are. Well it's a good thing we don't all have the same taste, I guess.

Hey Steve, what did you want to hear Floor Jansen is singing? A Puccini Opera Aria, a little bit of growling Like Tatiana of Jinjer, or country, maybe Jazz, she can do it all. 😄 Greetings from Germany.
@@ToTheWolves I like it more than someone flipped out and use thousend times the words Awesome, great, epic, best i ever Seen and so on. Mostly you see that they fake it.
Not sure that “perpetually unimpressed” is a fair comment here Vee… I definitely was impressed in places and enjoyed it more as the song went along. I’m not here to just be super positive about everything I listen to in order to gain views/subs. I want to be honest about my take on things. Sometimes, I’m not gonna love a band the same way that their current fans do. It’s inevitable. I’m pleased to be exposed to songs and artists that I wouldn’t otherwise check out because of this channel though so I’m going to crack on. Also no, I probably can’t write a song like this or play all the parts in it. I’m not here to say I’m some sort of supreme expert, but I am listening to the songs from the point of view of a musician, for what that’s worth. The drums on this record though, I can absolutely play. Drums are my real jam.
Hi ! Try the Nightwish's video at Wembley titled "Nightwish - Shudder Before The Beautiful (OFFICIAL LIVE)". It's a hell of the concert's beginning. You will not be disappointed.
That’s a great, honest and knowledgeable analysis. Did you say nightfish at the beginning?? That’s awesome. Btw…. Floor Jansen could probably kick both our asses at the same time. Ciao buddy!
excellent honest reaction and I think you'll be more apt to be "impressive" as you see some of their other works, "Ghost Love Score" is an ideal introduction into their skill, tightness, and overall range. of what they can do.
Nightfish not got you hooked yet? Maybe check out "Romanticide", "Song of Myself" or "Ghost River" from this concert. Or perhaps, "Shudder Before the Beautiful", the energetic opening to their live show in Tampere, Finland (sort of Nightwish's home base). BTW, Nightwish christened a small motorboat "Nightfish II" a while back. I have no idea what became of "Nightfish I", but best not to ask, I say.
You should probably listen to some of Nightwish heavier songs such as: "Song Of Myself": ruclips.net/video/lQu5QjidHWg/видео.html "Yours Is An Empty Hope": ruclips.net/video/DuwY1d-KIss/видео.html "Romanticide": ruclips.net/video/zz_7OCCQlXs/видео.html
Each & every song you hear can be a new experience. Just when you think you know their style, they surprise you. If you want edgier there is “Yours is an Empty Hope” or “Master Passion Greed”
For heavier stuff try .....Romantacide, Devil in the deep dark ocean , yours is an empty hope, song of myself and planet hell 2012 with ( floor jansen) if you want to get smacked instead of tickled !!
The thing about Nightwish is that they only use the grit when it suits the music, it is not a consistent angry growl which means that every song is different and progressive rather than the constant and monochromatic assault of many metal bands. If you think this was epic then listen on. Down Gabriel’s list will be ‘seven days to the wolves’, ‘the poet and the pendulum’ and the El Cid of them all ‘The greatest show on Earth’ now there is epic!
Subbed in hopes of you exploring more Nightwish. Every song is different. Many much harder and interesting changes/timings/influences for you to dissect. For the songs that are more orchestral, they record all the orchestral backings & choir parts that Tuomas (Keyboardist) writes with the London Symphony Orchestra, & London City Adult & Children's choirs.
It's been said many times in the comments, but I wanna encourage you too to watch "Romanticide" from the same concert in order to check out their heavier and grittier side. They're very versatile, and all the songs are different.
Welcome to one of the most reacted music pieces on youtube. The view count for this video will skyrocket. There is not much to add to the exhaustive proposals of Gabriel. But if you want to know where the Band and the composer Tuomas Holopainen (Keyboards) stands today, you have to visit the newest Album Human :||: Nature (one side instrumental) from 2020, because "Ghost love score" was first released in 2004.
Aw Steve! Try as you might you can’t stop now. The first step down the Nightwish rabbit hole has been taken, and the Nightwish Army is at your doorstep. Romanticide ftom that same wacken show would be a next good step. In addition, want to see your subscriber numbers blow up? Hit a couple more Nightwish songs.
This was one of their longer songs but Nightwish is really worth delving into trust me. Each song isn't fully alike and they have plenty of Heavier songs to chose from including some Floor growls. Please give them another shot off course there is some Operatic or classical singing or Orchestra but that comes with the Symphonic part of the genre
Hi! This is one of the more epic songs from Nightwish, they also have very hard songs. But every song sounds different, the next song you hear will be always your favorite NW song. If you go on with NW songs i would say do "Song of myself", it's one of my personal top 5 NW songs, or "Romanticide", this are 2 of the hardest NW songs and i think you would like them. Real metal style songs are the show opener "Dark chest of wonders", "Ghost river", "Storytime", "She's my sin" or the last song from this Wacken conzert "Last ride of the day". Other very beautiful or more epic songs or are "Sleeping Sun", "Ever Dream", "Bless the child or "Nemo", all from Wacken '13, only "Sleeping Sun" you must look from an other conzert, maybe from the Tampere '15 conzert. I hope we see more NW reactions from you. Have a nice weekend. Bye
Another Finnish band you probably like. React to this: Wintersun - Sons of winter and stars - Live rehearsal @ Sonic Pump Studios ruclips.net/video/K2p9PsVD9Ho/видео.html
Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer.
So be prepared. lol "
Hoping you'll continue this journey with us, I'll drop here a list of songs (with links) with the current lineup of the band you may like (please consider this list of links only as "a tip of the iceberg", an indication that they have a vast and very diverse repertoire, and not as something mandatory):

@Nightwish Arena: Since most of the reactors end up doing a lot of reactions from Wacken 2013 concert, they should be warned that there are a lot of slowed down and even high pitched versions of this concert, so it is better to use only official videos or this version of the whole concert: ruclips.net/video/cAwtzi7Q3Bk/видео.html
Last but not the least - they released their 9th studio album on April 10th 2020 named "Human :||: Nature" - just take a peek to their official playlist: ruclips.net/p/PLihZ3gi5Yvzc0pfH2cbNKUUX8o3pb8eVg (for example: "Shoemaker", the 3rd track from this album, tells the story of Eugene Shoemaker, one of the founders of planetary science, whose ash was sent on the Moon after his death, as a tribute from the scientific community ..)
The links presented above are with the current singer of the band, Floor Jansen, since I'm a fan of the recent era of the band, with Floor as the singer. That being said, I will add here the messages left the other days by some old fans of the band.
@Fabrizio Gorla: To be fair to the old fanbase, you may want to include also some of these songs.

Haha. Hey Gab. Good to see ya again.😄
Thanks for the very detailed comment Gabriel!
@@SteveOGRock He's the man, with the plan.
She and Tarja are so phenomenal. Annette is good too but not as great as these two.
I'm a huge fan of Nightfish 😂
Haha! Yeah I noticed this when I watched it back later. Facepalm moment. Slip of the ole tongue!
@@SteveOGRock Your not the first to make that mistake.
And of course there's still FishMaster out there too.
Obviously just a slip of the tongue, but I had to chuckle. I can hear it now “ Nightfish with lead singer Woor Jansen”
🤣
Grilled. Even better
Welcome to the Nightwish Army!!!! YOU WERE NOT READY FOR THE NOTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you want to hear a more heavier side of Nightwish try Romanticide, Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean, Slaying the Dreamer or Yours is an Empty Hope (the singer Floor growls in this one). Nightwish can do it all ❤️
And Song of Myself live in Wacken and Weak Fantasy live in Tampere and Dark Chest of Wonders concert opener Wacken 2013……
Don't forget Shudder before the beautiful...
Master passion greed. But there isn´t any live-versions of it.
Thanks for recommendations Diana! I definitely need to hear something else from them. Of course one song isn’t enough to give a good picture of a band. There have been a few mentions of Romanticide from others so I suspect that’ll be my next song of theirs to check out.
Romanticide , 👍
Plenty of people want the heavier side of nightwish... they go alllllll the way from acoustic ballads to thrash to rival anything Metallica or pantera have done, the sheer range of what this band does at an insanely high level is just unfair. Floor does death metal growls in a couple of songs. Would recommend Romanticide from the same concert to get a taste of what NW can do. Ghost Love score is a gentle one by their standards. Its a score, after all.
Ooh, would love to hear some of her growls. Thanks for the comment.
Recommedations would be to start Epica journey with:
-Consign to Oblivion (live at Zenith)
-Kingdom of Heaven (live)
-The Essence of Silence (live in Brussels)
-Design your Universe (live)
-Stabat Mater Dolorosa (Simone Simons with Floor Jansen) (live at retrospect)
-Sancta Terra (featuring Floor as guest singer) (live at retrospect)

Very well done reaction. Thanks 😊
Nightwish is a Finnish band, although Floor Jansen is Dutch and Troy Donockley is English. Gabriel will give you more information.
I'm surprised that Gabriel isn't already here! His introduction to the band is well worth pinning for future reference when he arrives.
'Almost' Nordic???
If Finland is something it is *Nordic*. Not Scandinavian - but definitely Nordic.
A Finnish band with a Dutch singer, singing in English at a German rock festival of 80,000 people. I love this~ 🎶💕🦋
Hello there!
I think it's more then "weldone", the moment you can write music on this level and reach such an amount of people you can speak of weldone!
You and I must be close to the same age because I felt the same way about those songs right up until I had my first Floorgasm lol
@@AGDinCA I graduated high school in the late 80s so I only have you beat by a couple years :)
You wouldn't judge the Rolling Stones after listening to Emotional Rescue, so please be open to more of their catalogue. They WILL blow you away given the chance.
Agreed
Nightwish Army inbound! Welcome to the fam.
Man, this song is one big crescendo for that one last high belt, and Floor nails it everytime!
Originally Floor was sent by Allfather Odhinn to Midgard to gather the souls of fallen warriors to Valhalla, but she
got distracted and joined a series of bands. However, Floor still gathers souls by her grace, beauty and the sheer power
of her vocals.
I appreciate the honesty of your reaction, I'll be waiting for more :D
Thanks for the honest reaction! 👍🤘
Allow me to change your mind on Nightwish "Being your cup of tea", next I would ask you to react to "Romanticide" from Wacken 2013 (same set as this one)
and see what your thoughts are then.😉 In the meantime, info dump for you below!😁
Nightwish is a glorious rabbit hole of awesome, with world class song-writing, musicianship and arguably (or unarguably to most who've heard her enough😉) the best and most versatile female vocalist alive today (maybe ever), the Valkyrie Queen of metal herself Floor Jansen (pronounced Yansen).
The other vocalists are -
Tarja Turunen - (1996-2005) - (Finland) - Very operatic focused vocals.
Anette Olzon - (2007-2012) - (Sweden) - More pop-centric vocals.
Floor Jansen - (2012-Present) - (Netherlands) - Extremely diverse vocals, from deep growls to full on opera.
The other band members are/were -
Tuomas Holopainen - Song writer/composer and Keyboards. (Finland)
Marko Hietala - Bassist and vocals. (Finland)
Emppu Vuorinen - Guitarist (Finland)
Jukka Nevalainen - Drums (Finland) Retired in 2014 due to health issues
Troy Donockley - Multi-instrumentalist and Vocals. (United Kingdom)
Kai Hahto - Drums (Finland) - 2014 to Present
Floor herself is Dutch and is another glorious goldmine of awesome as she has a lot of non-Nightwish related stuff (including 2 other bands, After Forever & ReVamp) that she has done that is all pretty amazing as well.
Prepare for the Nightwish army to arrive and enjoy your Nightwish journey, I know I did!😎🤘
Thanks Hexley! Sounds like Romanticide needs to be checked out indeed. Cheers!
@@SteveOGRock Glad to hear it! I'll keep an eye out for that.👍
Great reaction.
I just love how Jukka is playing drums. I just love his style 🤘💕
Solid drummer. I find the level of angle he has his snare drum to be sheer madness though. I like mine to be as horizontal as possible. Each to their own though!
Try "Storytime", "Romanticide" or "Yours is an empty hope" for example to get a more edgy/rough sound of Nightwish ;)
GLS isn´t for everyone but most people don´t realise that they hear a 10 minute song while they´re listening. Reactions are often like "that didn´t feel like 10 minutes" :D
EDIT: Or just check out Gabriels list ^^
You've just entered one of the biggest and most surprising rabbitholes there is at this moment.. Not in the least because they changed their frontwoman 2 times. And their songs aren't 'lookalikes', there is so much variation. So succes en enjoy.
That final note she blasts out is so powerful
Opera...(yawn)...
I've seen a few hundred reactions to Ghost Love Score, but you are the second one who called the middle section properly "interlude". Thanks!
I’m so pleased you’re pleased!
I giggled the moment you said Nighfish… great reaction 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼. New sub hoping for more Nightfish also known as Nightwish 😂🤘🏼🔥❤️
Thanks Ashley! Welcome to the party! Lovely to have you here.
I have done one other Nightwish song: “Romanticide”. Have a looksee =)
Just a quick fyi as I’ve seen other reactors say the same thing, she isn’t using falsetto just her head voice.
Welcome into the world of Nightwish! Nightwish Army Dutch division checking in. You'll find more complex and with edge allright 😂
Loved your reaction! Especially towards the end hahaha
Hope you'll do more Nightwish in the future ^_^
Welcome to the joyride, thanks from Colombia

Song of Myself, Ghost River, Romanticide and Yours is an Empty Hope are just some more popular heavier ones that might suit you more. Thank you for the reaction 😁👍
Jukka's got chimes and he's not afraid to use them. :)
Darn skippy.
Oh yes!!! ✌🔥💃😍 Yes they sure can build up! Take a listen to "Yours is an empty hope", "Devil and the deep dark ocean" or "Romanticide". There's a few to start with 😉
Definitely need to watch them play Seven Days to the Wolves at Wembley.
@@SteveOGRock I thought it was a great reaction, I like hearing what other musicians think of them, looking forward to the next one
This is the 13th song of a 15 song set , stamina is amazing , respect for the drummer amazing song and performance
Greetings.
Falsetto isn't in Floor Jansen's reach, what others do in falsetto Floor does in opera head voice.
You will find out in "Storytime". 😊❤🤘🤘
Best liveband ever in this planet
Haha you gave me a big smile at the end floor singing she is fantatastic !! ❤
Seriously impressive singer
more nightwish please if its live its good....ROCK ON!
Excellent reaction! Just because it was your take, and not fluff fluff. Well done, subbed.
Lovely to have you here, thanks for saying so! I strive to find the positives in any music I listen to… but I will always prioritise honesty and a genuine point of view that I truly believe in. Great to hear that this is valued by others such as yourself too.

Floor Jansen is a soprano, with a range of more than 4 octaves (Eb2 to F6)
She can sing from classical to belting and raspy vocals like screaming and death growls.
'drummers got some chimes' Yup, you'll be seeing them in use later on in the song XD
Yep - Nightwish with Floor in front👍
Experiences ahead....
Love it - NightFish 😆
Emppu is drinking Corona.
Talk about damning with faint praise - its alright for what it is. Yes they're quite good. For what they are.
Well it's a good thing we don't all have the same taste, I guess.
Beginning is head voice but not a falsetto

Hey Steve, what did you want to hear Floor Jansen is singing? A Puccini Opera Aria, a little bit of growling Like Tatiana of Jinjer, or country, maybe Jazz, she can do it all. 😄 Greetings from Germany.
This guy's like my mom....perpetually unimpressed and talks over anything you're trying to show them with useless info.
@@ToTheWolves I like it more than someone flipped out and use thousend times the words Awesome, great, epic, best i ever Seen and so on. Mostly you see that they fake it.
@@marcbaur677 right but if this isnt impressive then wtf is....can he pull any of that off? Ya know what i mean?
@@marcbaur677 but also, that was my first reaction to it and I didn't make a video...i used all those words lol
Another one !
Nightwish arnt my bag lol
You want heavy they got heavy 🤘
Hi ! Try the Nightwish's video at Wembley titled "Nightwish - Shudder Before The Beautiful (OFFICIAL LIVE)".
It's a hell of the concert's beginning. You will not be disappointed.
Please lisen to more Nightwish … love from Denmark 🌹
That’s a great, honest and knowledgeable analysis. Did you say nightfish at the beginning?? That’s awesome. Btw…. Floor Jansen could probably kick both our asses at the same time. Ciao buddy!
Nice reaction with a good bit of analytics
Looking forward to see you checking Romanticide!! rock solid man! :D
excellent honest reaction and I think you'll be more apt to be "impressive" as you see some of their other works, "Ghost Love Score" is an ideal introduction into their skill, tightness, and overall range. of what they can do.
Good catch on the nordic theme, they're from Finland and have used lots of folksy elements, especially in their more recent stuff.
Listen to a few songs. You will become a fan. This is just a mellow offering from Nightwish
You should probably listen to some of Nightwish heavier songs such as:
"Song Of Myself":

"Yours Is An Empty Hope":

"Romanticide":

Thanks Carsten! I definitely need to hear something else by them I think. One song of course won’t give the full picture.
0:11 - "I'm aware of Nightfish!
The doubting Thomas got turned!
Thanks K Maj! I will definitely be doing at least another song by them in the next couple of weeks.
Greetings from The Netherlands 🐱👤🎶👍
Great reaction. Each to their own taste. Please reaction Song of Myself if you want the wonderful Floor and the boys to leave you open mouthed.
Romanticide is indeed next! Will post that this week.
Romantacide next Wacken live 2013,nightwish, awesome 👌
To me, it is the greatest band of all times (with Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and Genesis of the 70's)
Bye
You said you like more grit. Maybe even growls by Floor? I reccommend 'Yours is an empty hope' and 'Romanticide'. Live of course! Great reaction!
Have you heard "The greatest show on Earth?"
Good one. Try Ghost River, Romanticide, Song Of Myself, Seven Days To the Wolves, Yours Is An Empty Hope etc.
A Nordic sound?? Well that could be because they are......Finnish? Except Floor that is.
