Just found your offering by accident. Very helpful. Your point of just correcting one thing made several of her bad things go away automatically.. Simple is always better. You're a natural teacher. Thank you.
Thank you for your kind feedback it means a lot to me! I’m very glad that you found the video helpful, consider checking out the other similar videos on this channel!
I found your repeated slo-mo presentation very helpful in visualizing the preferred technique. I also found drawing the angles helpful to understanding the trajectory of the ball. I also often use a pendulum swing for my drives, but will now give focusing on rotating my hips a try. Thank you
Found your channel and have subscribed and been binging. Love your analysis, statistics, and slow-motion playback to help teach and illustrate points. I am changing my game and style of play based on your statistical analysis as I believe that the numbers do not lie. At my age I want an effective and efficient training session that does not grind my body down. Looking forward to more of your content.
thank you so much for tuning in and giving your valuable time to my videos, it warms my heart seeing feedback like this, it's part of the reason that keeps me going, I spend on average 20 - 40 hours making each video, knowing that someone else in this world is able to benefit from watching is encouraging!
Really good breakdown and telistrator use combined with the slow MO forward and backward helped clarify your teaching points. Look forward to watching your video on pro drive analysis.
Thank you for tuning in and your feedback! That’s a good suggestion! The link to me breaking down how pros drive is here: Mastering FOREHAND Drive - the one shot you NEED to get to 4.0 ruclips.net/video/HEbRlu4XwKY/видео.html
@@superdupr.pickleball thx for the link, I just finished watching the forehand and it was so good with just the basics needed to create power and your video editing was really good. Just a suggestion for your channel ....a simple video of clips of pros hitting forehands, backhands, and the footwork for each as you have the video editing skills to put that together with the slo-mo etc
Thank you! This means a lot, I actually think your idea is cool! Will add it to my idea list, I see this could work out as a short video in the future, thanks for your feedback and suggestions. if you liked what you have watched so far, feel free to check out the other content on my channel, I mainly focus on sharing my analysis with people who might be struggling just like me!
I see this differently in several ways. 1) Her head is not tracking the ball. Watching her head in the first example, around 3:50 mark, you can see the head orientation doesn’t change. It should. The face should move as the ball moves, not just the eyes. This is a major problem and should be fixed. 2) She doesn’t know what to do with the non-paddle hand. This is IMO the KEY to being able to hit the ball well / consistently. I detail this here: ruclips.net/video/OR1YtERWToI/видео.html A lot of the power should come from the shoulder rotation and using the left hand well will help facilitate this. 3) She is facing the net when she hits drives. This tells me that she is likely right eye dominant. Ideally, she understands which eye is dominant and that plays a major role in whether her stance is open or closed, covered here: ruclips.net/video/9_Db9hYqFEs/видео.html 4) She is using a pendulum swinging motion with the paddle very vertical. This is great and shouldn’t be changed but should be encouraged IMO. I cover why here: ruclips.net/video/r8Of3JeypXk/видео.html and here: ruclips.net/video/zA7I5yAc3yM/видео.html 5) She contacts the ball at the correct height which is down by the knee. Stand fully relaxed with feet together, paddle hanging down and you can see the paddle sweet spot is by the knee. That’s the best and most consistent place to hit the ball. Hitting at the ball’s apex means that the player has to hit at an unlimited number of heights which will be more inconsistent. Hit the ball on her own terms, down by the knee. 6) Controlling the height of the drive is then controlled by the contact point: ruclips.net/video/zC5oGPvvoX8/видео.html I demo all this here: ruclips.net/video/VMzRBwkGZbI/видео.html
Katie did surprisingly well with terrible drive technique. It was basically a drop shot stroke made longer and faster for more ball speed. The massively changed form is far more similar to a tennis (net) approach. It uses a mostly closed stance with hips and shoulders rotating in the same direction. The ball velocity is generated from the triple arc of the hips, shoulders and arm movement. The wrist also rotates but for the purpose of imparting topspin. Hip rotation doesn’t generate the power per se, but enables the range and balance needed for torso/shoulder rotation where the paddle speed is generated. There is much more that can be done with katie’s form for more power and spin (e.g., grip and wrist rotation), but this is an excellent start. It’s impressive that so much change came from a single item of focus.

Great video. Just two things I noticed. One it doesn’t look like she’s watching her paddle hit the ball. There are very few people that can do that and be good. Two on the follow through she not letting her arm rotate all the way through. I tell my students to listen to the sea shell. But with the knuckles facing towards the side of your face. Just my thoughts and opinion.
Thanks for tuning in! I think in general near periphery vision tends to be a better at detecting motion than far periphery vision, having said that everyone is a little different, based on my personal observation, I don’t think she is struggling with tracking of the ball movement, her timing is incredibly good as it is, in which case I would recommend her just focusing on other areas where she could gain more benefit from. That’s just my humble opinion.
It's just one adjustment, but it fell on the golden ears of a women who is a naturally gifted athlete. Your average couch potato doesn't suddenly switch on the entire kinetic chain with strength and timing after just one suggestion.
I agree with you that She is naturally gifted athlete, her timing is really good. The point I wanted to make was that sometimes less can be more, rather than trying your to do too much at the same time, just focus on making 1 or 2 small changes at a time, if you make the right changes, it can lead to other surprises too.
In my humble opinion, yes. With proper hip rotation, the swing doesn’t have to be very big to generate the power that’s needed for pickleball drives. Big swing introduces more error, hence inconsistency.

Thank you for tuning in and the feedback!
I meant to ask. What paddle do you recommend? I want to stick with one paddle on my road to try to get to 4.0.

Thanks for the video. Do you think she should also make a more concerted effort to keep her eyes on the ball when hitting it?

@@superdupr.pickleball It's not just about timing. Tracking the ball is essential for being accuracte with your contact point on the paddle.
