    I don’t like to talk about my chronic pain. Ever. I’m embarrassed by it and loathe feeling weak when I used to be so strong. I get angry when my husband, who just wants to help, asks me how I feel. I hurt! I ALWAYS hurt, and no one around me truly understands that. So I was surprised and touched at how open and matter-of-fact you were about talking about your pain. It was so relatable and it helped me feel a little less lonely. I didn’t know how badly I needed to know someone understood until I listened to you. Thank you.

    Taylor, I've never dealt with any acne beyond normal teenage blemishes, but my little sister who is still in high school has very severe acne that she's dealt with since she was 11 or so. She was bullied for it in middle school and she used to cry every time she would take her makeup off to go to sleep at night. She ended up finding your channel and you've been a huge, huge help to her. I can't tell you how good it was for her to have a person with her skin type that she could look up to and find advice for managing her skin. Your channel helped her learn that she could still be confident and look great even with her acne. We BOTH really appreciate what you're doing on your channel and your videos have genuinely impacted her life in very positive way.
    Your skin is looking great and I'm so happy you've finally found something that's working for you. Much love from me and my little sis ❤️

    I went on two rounds of Accuntane years ago when I was in high school. Life changing! I used to have horrible acne & tried every “over the counter” AND prescription products.... finally working up to the most powerful, Accuntane. I love my skin now!!

    Just a suggestion, but CeraVe makes a superior product to Aquaphor. The CeraVe Healing Ointment has the same vaseline type base as Aquaphor but it also has ceramides and hyaluronic acid so it is MUCH more pleasant to use and more moisturizing. Cheers!

      Ariel Tims The CeraVe is actually pleasant rather than feeling that you have encapsulated your self in a petroleum product. I use it on my lips every night and around my eyes to seal in moisturizer in the cold weather even though I am not on Acutane. Cheers!

    • @SDaulton
      @SDaulton 6 лет назад

      I have both. I like the Cerave because of the better ingredients, but I feel like the Aquaphor’s slightly thicker consistency stays on longer. I have a few weeks before I start my Accutane, but I’m thinking I will just use a more generous amount of the Cerave, or possibly layer them. Lanolin stays on the best (super thick and sticky) so might try that under Cerave too?

    • @Amber_Konings225
      @Amber_Konings225 5 лет назад

      hey I have a question! I was looking through cerave products but I couldn’t find anything that was specifcally for lips. What do you suggest for the dry lips while on accutane?

    I've never ever been that happy for someone I don't know. I am legit happy for you, I started having adult cystic acne after I turned 24 and I know how it feels, I know how it affects you (even when we say it doesn't). Retin-a is what works for me. And girl, Jojoba Oil breaks me out, which is weird but my skin also hates it hahaha!

    I suffered from outrageous acne until I was 19 then I FINALLY got prescribed accutane, absolutely no regrets. It's so worth the pain! the dry nostrils, dry lips, dry everything, dry hair roots was great though ha. I went on a much lower dose than you I think. it honestly changed my life. I can actually leave the house without makeup on, and my skin no longer gets oily throughout the day if I am wearing makeup. I just feel like a new person. Your skin has already drastically improved!

    When I heard you say you have spinal and nerve pains I was surprised. I got diagnosed with degenerative disc disease in February, and about four months ago now got a large herniated disc pushing against my sciatic nerve. The pain was so bad at times I couldn't even roll over in bed. I got put out of work and school. Then when I heard you mention you don't suffer from anxiety and depression, I honestly was surprised. Simply because my condition has made my depression and anxiety so awful and difficult to handle. Plus having to deal with cystic acne and migraines? I honestly think you're an incredibly strong person and I am very glad you don't suffer from depression and anxiety. I seriously think you rock and I'm really glad Accutane seems to be working for you 💖

    You may have already done this... but get your thyroid checked. Thyroid issues can cause high cholesterol. It can also cause migraines, joint pain, basically every symptom you have.
    If you get "normal" results" please research the results for yourself. I was COMPLETELY misdiagnosed, I had "normal" results from my GP because they didn't know what they were looking at and didn't know how to read the results properly... it took another 2 years of seeing specialists to finally get diagnosed with a faulty thyroid... and I had to have it removed after getting "normal" results. It caused all of the same symptoms you have. Including acne. My face is completely clear since having it removed.
    Anyways... I'm so happy you're getting great results on the acutane. Good luck with everything!!

    • @babyjustice2900
      @babyjustice2900 7 лет назад +10

      True, women have to be super proactive about thyroid tests bc most doctors order a TSH and call it a day. Ask for Free T3&T4, Reverse T3 and Thyroid Antibody tests. The antibodies are everything bc all tests can be normal, but your body can't use the hormone if the antibodies are high.

      Accutane can make your cholesterol higher while on your course. I know this because I’m currently on my last month of accutane (and I had it four years ago) and my dermatologist said that your cholesterol levels aren’t something to be too concerned about with on accutane because it can increase your levels (and mine was looking really high-not fasting when getting blood tests affects this, too). Every symptom she has is completely normal for accutane users!

    • @emmakay1999
      @emmakay1999 7 лет назад +9

      Oh.. I thought she said it was high BEFORE she started accutane, as well as several of her other symptoms, but it's getting higher while she's on it because it is a side effect. I'm pretty sure she said that, actually.. either way, she has all very classic symptoms of thyroid issues. Migraines, which she has all the time, joint pain, chronic pain, and acne... all before she started..

    I took accutane for 6 months about 4 years ago now, and it was simultaneously the best and worst experience. It helped clear my skin dramatically, but while I was on it, it was horrible. I was in high school and it was my last ditch effort after struggling for years. My dermatologist did not prepare me for the side effects, and I had horrible headaches and joint pain for the first 2 months and I wanted to stop taking it. I finally started drinking more water and that helped lessen the migraines. My mental health also suffered while I was taking it. Like I said, my skin improved so much and has stayed almost perfectly clear for years (with the occasional breakout), but I would never take it again. I’m so glad it’s working so well for you!

      The less animal products you eat (as cholesterol is only found in those foods, and they are high in saturated fat) and the more you replace them with healthy greens, veggies, nuts, seeds, legumes, grains, fruits the research shows the lower peoples cholesterol gets. Look into plant-based nutrition :)

    I'm glad for you and hope this does the trick.
    I had terrible cystic acne in my youth, but unlike you, it damaged my self esteem considerably. I've also suffered from depression since my teens (I'm 51 now).
    The first time I went on Accutane was 30 years ago. I don't recall a "purge" phase, and the only side effect I can recall was hair loss. I loved being on Accutane because, for the first time in my life, my makeup looked fresh all day, as ordinarily it would start breaking down from my oily skin within an hour. Having smooth skin beneath my fingertips was a revelation.
    Within the first year after going off Accutane, my skin settled into some nasty scarring from the cystic acne that hadn't been evident prior--it seemed that the Accutane kept my skin plumped up. My hair growth recovered without a problem.
    I went on Accutane a second time 18 years ago. Looking back, I think this second treatment was unnecessary, as while I had started breaking out again, it wasn't nearly as bad. This time the hair loss was quite significant and my hair took literally years to recover.
    Neither time did I experience suicidal thoughts, even though I'm naturally prone to depression.
    Anyway, that's my experience. I wish you all the best! Thank you for sharing, and kudos to you for not letting acne affect your self image.

    I don't really want to be that person giving medical advice in the RUclips comment section lol but since this happened to me personally I just want to make sure you know that Imitrex isn't meant to be used constantly. When I started taking it for my own migraines nobody bothered to tell me that taking it more than 10 times a month actually causes migraines (and the NP knew I was having more than 10 migraines a month - still didn't tell me). Again, hate to be that person giving unsolicited medication advice, but since it happened to me and you mentioned you have 5 migraines a week I wanted to make sure someone told you that Imitrex can't be used more than 10 times a month and you aren't accidentally causing yourself more migraines (like I did for a while).
    So glad accutane is working for you other than the few side effects, good luck with the last 4 months :)

      thataylaa
      I’ve been there. Zomig was my preferred med. Now nartriptan is what I take. But if I get a horrible headache zomig lets me function. Look into POTS syndrome. Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome. My pain life has been much like yours. I was in my thirty’s when I watched mystery diagnosis and saw a lady who had OT. I don’t faint thank God. I am not trying to give you advice either but I wanted you to know. Every daily symptom you have I have and had. You are open with us and I wish I knew earlier so I’m sharing. POTS was not given a name until 1993. Some doctors don’t recognize it because it’s not a disease just a syndrome. Keep up the good work. You are awesome!

      thataylaa have you tried Midrin? I got prescribed it at the UCSF migraine clinic and it helps sooo much. (Imitrex gives me panic attacks so i cant take it) but Midrin is supposed to be easier in your body. Most drs don't think to try it because its an older med

    I have chronic eczema so I can definitely say that unscented things and moisture-locking creams or lotions are always a good thing. I know you’re not big on in-shower products but the Curel in-shower body lotion is SO GOOD. It takes away that extra step of moisturizing after, but I know you have found some oil washes so you do whatever works best for you. Staying away from irritants can also help the eczema. If you visit the National Eczema Association website, they have a lot of good information and also recommended products you should use with eczema. This is super late commenting but I just thought about it randomly and thought I should post it on this video. Once again, your skin looks amazing!

    • @andreawallace5804
      @andreawallace5804 7 лет назад +9

      DocfayeZA A very valid point, it is possible. However, in order to drive the body to the point of toxicity she would have to be drinking at least 15 of those Starbucks cups (which are about 24 oz) within about 3-5 hours’ time. This may vary slightly because of her height and weight, but that is equivalent to about 10.5 litres of water in 3-5 hours. Some basic math for you, there’s about 33.8 US fluid ounces in 1 Litre; for simplicity’s sake we’ll round it up to 34 oz. The cup that she is using, as was said, is about 24 oz, so drinking about 8-10 cups’ worth over the course of a day (probably around 12-16 hrs), would put her at about 5.6L (8 cups) to 7.1L (10 cups) for the entire day. Trying to drink that much and more in 3-5 hours would be extremely difficult, and you would also have to push past the body’s natural urge to vomit because of the insane amount of fluid intake. Therefore, she is at a low risk for water poisoning.

      Andrea Wallace thanks for the numbers.. You're right in terms of time frame, and athletes are probably more at risk. I still think though that many people can easily drink a litre in an hour if they routinely up their intake. Add to that a hectic workout and the intake will be more. I don't see why people drink so much anyway when it's not necessary. It's quite fine to drink to thirst unless for medical reasons.

    I am just super happy that you aren't having a rough time on accutane! I'm always so jealous of my friends who have previously been on accutane bc their skin is baby soft and they don't get regular breakouts like I do lol. Receiving compliments on my skin is probably the best thing that could happen to me, so I'm sure it makes you feel good even if you weren't feeling bad. Side note I've read that jojoba oil is also good for your hair and nails, so if it doesn't work well with your skin you could always try that! You're very knowledgable with skincare and I admire that about you and look forward to more updates!

    I can't thank you enough for sharing your journey. As another 20-something-year-old teetering on the edge of commencing a drug (an immunosuppressant, also for skin issues) that is a life changing sort of treatment with many risks and side effects, it's encouraging to see someone having success. You've also inspired me to do some research for real people who have a lived experience on the drug. These videos provide some real insight that the medical side of things lacks. I wish you all the best - I hope you continue to see results and your health continues to progress well during your treatment. Thanks girl x

    I'm so glad you're doing so well. I have fibromyalgia, scoliosis, and eczema. Both of my kids have eczema as well. Something that helps us is applying coconut oil over the top of our steroid cream. That's a great duo. Also a filtered shower head is great for your skin and hair. I use the sprite brand filtered shower heads for the last 8 years. As a hairstylist I recommend those shower heads to clients as well. I hope this helps. Xoxo

      Sandra Coleman I think I have fibromyalgia but I’m unsure....could you explain to me how you found out or the diagnoses process?

      N A So many people say that. Sadly fibromyalgia is like the medical catch all drawer. When you have pain throughout your body and they can't find a cause they say fibromyalgia. I truthfully feel I have a rare version of rhumetoid. But since I have state insurance it's very hard to get doctors to go the extra mile. But if your in pain you should talk to your doctor. Research and be diligent.

      Sandra Coleman so many people break out from coconut oil I would be very careful, test it on a small area before just using it all over unless you know for sure it won't break you out. All the coconut oil is doing is forming a barrier to seal in the moisturizer underneath. Any occlusive oil will work for that purpose - mineral oil, fractionated coconut oil (seems to break you less people), macademia oil, etc. a sleeping mask or Aquaphor will work too

    The "purge phase" happened around month 3 for me. I was thinking I was out of the clear and then bam. There it was. So fingers crossed for you that everything stays clear. I didn't really get too dry either. It's all about prevention. I started being diligent with my skincare about a week prior to starting. Keep it simple. Aquaphore. Cerave moisturizer. A simple face wash like Cerave or Cetaphil. That seemed to work best for me.

    • @JennyWas13
      @JennyWas13 7 лет назад +4

      Lindsey Quinn I think everyone is different. I shrivelled up like a dry old prune basically from day 1 and stayed that way. I stopped having active breakouts after about a month and never went through a "purge" phase. I think my skin was just more naturally prone to dryness, as 7 years later it is still very dry. Not that I'm complaining as I find the dryness much easier to manage than I ever found the acne.

      @lindsey.quinn89 7 лет назад +4

    I went on Accutane a couple years ago and my acne came back slowly. I was happy with the results for about a year and didnt have to worry too much about my skin. It didnt come back nearly as bad as before and not really cystic and painful. I don't think my dosage was high enough for my weight or maybe I wasn't on it long enough. I'm hesitant to go back on it because I think it's really hard on your body and kind of scares me. Good luck! It definitely feels so nice not feeling self conscious about your skin and not worrying about that and the negative effects like depression that can go along with it. But I'm back to feeling self conscious again and hate the texture of my skin, so we'll see if I go back on.

    I am one of those people that comment before the video is over...
    I have a f-ton of similar conditions as you. 4 spine surgeries and damaged nerves over here...
    I was given Gabapentin for my nerve pain and to help stop the muscle spasms in my thigh (as a result from surgery on spine).
    Gabapentin made me feel super weird, blurred my vision so bad, I thought my glasses weren’t working. It also can cause headaches. Which I also suffer from migraines and period migraines.
    I am taking Skelaxin now, which is technically a muscle relaxant, but helps with my nerve pain and nerves firing. It does not make me drowsy either. I haven’t had any side effects from and I have a noticeable difference when I stop taking it.
    Here’s the definition. It can be very expensive if your insurance isn’t great
    Skelaxin (metaxalone) is a muscle relaxant. It works by blocking nerve impulses (or pain sensations) in the brain. Skelaxin is used together with rest and physical therapy to treat skeletal muscle conditions such as pain or injury. Skelaxin may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.

I'm gonna ask my Dr about the med your on now. I hope you're doing ok and that your pain is under control. My husband has had three spinal surgeries and I know how awful it can be. have you guys considered medical marijuana? there are ways to legally obtain it without going through the certification process, even in states where it isn't legal. if you're afraid of the high, usually medical versions only use cbd, which is the part of the plant that doesn't make you high and gives you pain relief. it technically isn't even cannibis, it's just phrased that way to avoid confusion. ive tried it in oils and lotion and it does help. i love the lotions for muscle pains (im sure it would be great for spasms) and the oils tend to do better for broader types of pain like nerves that you can't exactly pinpoint for a lotion. buylegalmeds.com has them if you did wanna look, they even have gummies if you want to ease into it without feeling weird.

      Hey, I do not know if this will help. I too struggle with chronic pain. Mine is from Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (a genetic condition that affects collagen production, this causes hypermobility which causes back problems, arthritis, joint pain, muscle spasms, etc. It also causes things like insomnia), adhesions, endometriosis/adenomyosis, and ovarian cysts. I have also had multiple surgeries which has caused nerve damage to my bladder, abdomen... everything in there lol. I was put on gabapentin and I hated the side effects. I am glad that I am not the only one with the blured vision, that worried me. Anyway, I told my doctor and I was put on gralise which is just an extended release form of gabapentin. Because you are getting it gradually over the day instead of all a once, the side effects are not nearly as bad. I had a hard time getting up in the morning, but once I adjusted to it, it was fine. Thought this might help since a lot of people (including some doctors) do not know about this as it is a relatively new form of gabapentin. Hope this helps.

      TVDVideoMaker The thing that I have been told the most by my dermatologist is time, and while he has been correct- it's been quite the slow process. I have seen the biggest difference the last 6 months. I am considering laser treatments, but not the ones that cause tons of peeling as I'm a nurse and can't put myself at risk for infection that way, much less take 2 weeks off of work for vanity lol! I've heard that chemical peels are awesome too, and microdermabrasion. So far I have just used a shit ton of moisturizer and Vitamin E, and tried to give it time. I'm a year out, and I still have people commenting on how my skin is still improving from their view- even though I can't really see it from mine. :)

    RE: Cholesterol: I have had elevated cholesterol for zilcho reason too. I have been eating a good mediteranean diet for yonks ( which helps with the bone and muscle aches I have had since a teenager). I had to see a dozen docs until I found one that checked Thyroid TSH 3&4 ( which was in health range), then had blood test to check the "Thyroid antibodies", found out they were raised and condusive to a Thyroid Auto-Immune disease called "Hashimotos". It causes High Cholesterol, bone and muscle pain, headaches and a few other things. It may be worth getting a blood test for the "Thyroid Antibodies" .. Just when you talked about the cholesterol elevation, a light bulb went off - it is always good to disregard everything. End of rant. Good luck and see you in your next video. 🍀🌻🌹

Obviously, I'm worried about the depression again, but I am so sick of hating my skin. Watching your Accutane journey is really inspiring, I just want to know what it's like to have clear skin.

    Chronic pain/ migraine sufferers unite! I do have a question. How did you get rid of the small under the skin white heads? I'm getting those from my face cream that my dermatologist prescribed.

    I'm so glad you've finally found the answer to your acne! I was on accutane for four months and I had to stop taking it because it caused liver problems and my hair fell out so much I had to cut my hair and rock a pixie cut. It ended up not being my solution because we found out that my acne is caused by my high testosterone levels! Sooooo happy that this is working so far for you ♥️♥️♥️♥️

    Have you ever researched Chiari Malformation? You need a MRI for proper diagnoses. Basically, CM is your skull is too small for your brain. After my surgery, my acne went away. I have many symptoms like, headaches, myriad of body aches, ect ect ect...

      It’s not that the skull is too small, it’s that the connective tissue that holds the cerebellar tonsils up is weak and allows it to sag down into the spinal canal.

    • @jaimevincent3762
      @jaimevincent3762 7 лет назад

      I have two areas, in which the skull has a malformation. One at the typical spot & one on the side, near my ear. Yes, in my case, the skull is too small. It is like going on vacation for two weeks, only having an over night case. That seems the most basic way to explain Chiari, at least one of the easiest way for people to understand it. Chiari headaches are very specific. Only a small percentage of folks with Chiari have symptoms. I was really lucky, the doctor I had was a pioneer in the "zipper" surgery, Pittsburgh, PA. Everyone has a different experience with Chiari Malformation.

    Sitting here watching this with my boyfriend next to me and once he heard your voice he goes “oh is she doing okay? Have her migraines gotten better since she started Accutane?” Showed him your before and after and we are both so happy for you. Keeping you in our thoughts ❤️

    Hi! Your skin does look a lot better. Amazing courage for doing it and major respect for sticking with it for so long! Also, I have chronic migraines too and nothing ever worked. In my case, I started drinking mint green tea every day and it does prevent them as much as possible. Maybe that might help?

    Taylor! The hemp hand protector from the body shop is AMAZING for super dry patches of skin! I get psoriasis really bad on my wrists and hands in the winter, and the hand protector always works better than my steroid prescription creme. You should get it if you're having trouble with red, scaling skin :)

    I took Accutane when I was 16 because I had cystic acne. It’s interesting hearing how things have changed from then to now (I’m 29 now). I didn’t take it for long because I had some not great side effects, but it helped immensely. My face is clear 90% of the time, so I really hope it helps for you too. I think you’re a little younger than me, so your body is going to keep changing as you age, and hopefully the Accutane will help shove you in the direction of better skin! Just make sure you’re taking care of yourself 💚

    I did accutane over 20 years ago. While I was on it, it was awful. Thank goodness I didn't have a job that required me to wear makeup b/c I wouldn't have been able to wear any, the dryness & flaking was awful. But my skin cleared up & over 20 years later, it's still crystal clear. An occasional blackhead. I never get cystic acne or even a whitehead, ever. It may have been awful during the treatment but it was totally worth it. Crystal clear skin is in your future, just wait, it'll be worth it.

      Stephanie Careless No premature wrinkles for me. I have beautiful skin compared to what I had before. I have dry skin & you always will after accutane, but I wash, treat & hydrate twice a day every day. My skin has made a total transformation. During the 3 month treatment, it's not fun, flakes & pain & sensitivity.. it's not fun .... But it's totally worth it.

    Your akin looks great! I just finished my accutane treatment this month, and the results are unbelievable. Looking back at my old pics, they are barely recognizable. So happy for you that you are getting such great results. Its really life changing when people start to compliment your skin and you no longer have to wonder if they are looking at you or your acne.

    I am SO HAPPY for you, girl - you have no idea! I got teary eyed when you started talking about getting compliments on your skin and it brought me right back to when I was on accutane just two years ago and I got my first EVER compliment on how nice my skin was. You get so used to having acne that you can't even picture getting a compliment like that and it really us such a surreal and wonderful comment to hear. You are glowing, lady and I'm SO happy for you! xox

    The cerave hydrating cleanser burned my skin sooo bad when I was on accutane. The only thing that ended up working for me in the end was the First Aid Beauty cleanser and moisturizer. Your skin looks great!

      Christine S YES! I’m so happy to see someone else talk about using that cleanser. I’m on my last month of accurate right now and I have super sensitive skin anyways, but the FAB cleanser is amazing! I can’t use the cerave hydrating one, either.
