Voyeurisim? They're all telepaths. I dont think three inches of plate steel would've given Lyta and Byron any more privacy than that gauze curtain did😂

The biggest problem is that none of the other telepaths are given any dialog. They are like Daryl and the other brother Daryl. They make every scene with Byron wierd.

I agree and wonder how much of this had to do with how much is paid for a speaking vs non speaking part. But I agree having all of the other telepehat just be non verbal contributed to making Byron seem weird

My word for today is a triple NO.
As a gen Z.... what is Oregon trail?
Are we responsible for what our ancestors did? No, but we have an increased responsibility to prevent it from happening again. Sometimes we unfortunately completely miss the point and do the wrong thing for the right reason...
I love that sci-fi is so political yet allegorical. Having not even been born when B5 aired, I actually learned a lot about the 90s because of this show.
    Beyond the Rim:
Crusade is actually set after the telepath war, with the PsiCorps no longer in existence as before. So I don't know whether they could have gone more into this in later seasons, unless the address the fallout or use flashbacks. Nonetheless, I wish they'd shown the telepath war somewhere. Hope you'll cover Crusade one day!

The (even more) messed up part of Lyta's flashbacks... that's a Vorlon weapons factory.
We really were just things to them.
Also, did anyone else see the reflections of the Vorlons in that scene? Creepy af.

So, Byron wants to start a colony for all telepaths. Including non-human? Do we ever get any sense that the alien telepaths have any issues on their homeworlds?

You know you guys, I have a lot of appreciation and respect for you. All of you. I probably have even more respect and appreciation for you for the things that we might not agree on. It's something that I'm grateful for. But of late, there's something that has begun to make me a bit uncomfortable. And maybe I can count on all of you to be thoughtful enough to actually consider it and run it through your brain. But I have come to feel todd the way, not the fact, but the way in which people try to shine a light on injustices to minorities in the past has become another invocation of white privilege. Privilege. Particularly white male privilege, because in a lot of professions, women have been in minority too. I don't know what the chance is. Are of you guys having any kind of discussion about relating to the show from that lens before it ends. But I would look forward to listening to it.

There's no way of looking at that scene. Rita is one of the most powerful telepaths in existence at this point in time. Combine that with Byron's and when they lost control all the other telepaths outside those curtains Couldn't block the images that those 2 were projecting.
Everything you guys said about the Sci-Fi Genre. Reminds me of Writer Isaac Asimof said Sci-Fi is about.
Answer all that pillow talk y'all been doing for the past 2 seasons of Babylon 5. I can only say. (WHAT.....WHAT THE HECK, am I Listening to. A podcast about Sci-Fi or about a bunch of horny Middle-agers?)

Sorry, still can't get behind Byron (no pun intended). 😁 Wow, the innuendo among the group for this episode might exceed the combined innuendo for all other episodes of the B5 series. The fifth grader in me could barely keep a straight face for half the podcast this week. BTW: My word of the day is "NO".
Without the sex scene and Byron in general, the rest of this episode is pretty good. Byron still isn't wrong in what he feels is the problem, but his solution actually makes him more like Bester than he might like to admit. Bester is actually the more reasonable one now, in terms of he is still trying to work within the system humanity has going. Now, Byron is the more extreme of the two of them in terms of how he wants to solve the problem. Bester never asked for a planet.
Ha, to one of Nicole's points: Are clowns Vorlons inside encounter suits? 🤣 That might explain why clowns are scary to so many people.
To one of Justin's points: I have always considered Bester to be Magneto, as his stated mission the entire time is to further telepaths, not the rest of humanity. Much like Magneto wants to further mutants. Byron seems to keep to his own little group, and is only stepping out more now that he found out the Vorlon are responsible.
To Jessie's comment, I have always thought of Byron as more of a Charles Manson figure... though maybe to a lesser extent. Byron may not be the one getting his hands dirty, but we can see the reaction of Byron's followers are not likely to remain non-violent. As Bester's underling, we don't know the true number of how many he killed before trying to be a pacifist.
Lots of interesting questions raised. Humanity has been committing atrocities long before the USA was ever formed. History tends to repeat itself in cycles and the USA historical problems and those of today are just more of the same. Sure, the technology has advanced a lot (as have the weapons), and we should be smarter for it. But people are people, and tend to make the same mistakes even when they KNOW they are wrong... just like Londo did with the Narn. Londo knew it was wrong, but went on with it anyway, and nearly got both the Centauri and the Narn destroyed by it. I'll leave it there on this topic.
The real question is can humanity learn form its mistakes and not repeat them (over and over again)? "The Deconstruction of Falling Stars" Season 4 finale would imply that answer could be "No". How do we know that the human species has not nearly destroyed itself many times over, and that something like the Catholic Church has not had to help us rebuild with the help of the Rangers?

    • @TheMerovingienne
      @TheMerovingienne 2 месяца назад

So what if humans have been committing atrocities long before the USA was formed. Is that supposed to excuse what happened here 200 years ago, or 20 years ago, or now? What matters is not dismissing current concerns because "humans gonna human"---things that have happened that are CURRENTLY still affecting marginalized people are more relevant and should NOT be met with "well, everyone has always been shitty, what are you gonna do?" People in power are continuing TODAY to oppress based on seeds planted during the inception of the USA.

Spoilers below for stuff discussed "Beyond The Rim."
The one thing about this show I have is a question of why many of the main characters never marry and have children. G'Kar (maybe, maybe not,) Ivanova, Franklin, Zack, Lochley just to name a few. More convenient or just JMS' dislike for marriage/mates? This came from the discussion on whether or not Franklin survives the show. Only Sheridan and Garibaldi have kids.

    • @Grey17Podcast

That's a great question. After reading JMS' book, I don't belive he hates marriage/mates. He just isn't good at it. (his opinion)
