I love this podcast so much. I've left reviews on every platform I have access to. Another great conversation.
Btw. C.S. Lewis and Mothman. I will give no further explanation.
PPS. I think this episode shows that Morden was a willing accomplice of the shadows and not a meat puppet like some have guessed.

This premise was not focused on what the living person would say to the dead visitor if they had a chance. It was focused on what the dead visitor would say to the living if they could.

    • @susanpurser6050
      @susanpurser6050 4 месяца назад +1

Exactly. It was about what the visitors wanted / needed to resolve. Lennier clearly hoped to meet Marcus, but Marcus had found his noble reason to die when he sacrificed himself for Susan. For Marcus, nothing was unresolved.
As for why Morden came back, I am less certain. Was he continuing to play an agent of chaos, in a way? Or was there some altruistic desire to warn someone off of making a bad decision? Or was there some other motivation?

Londo's vignette in this episode is picked up in one of the novels, where (if I remember accurately) Vir gets a vision of Londo in the afterlife, finally happy and relaxed, accompanied by the two women who were most emotionally connected to him, Adeera and Timov.

My apple crisp recipe: 6-8 applies, peeled and sliced; 1 c. apple juice; cinnamon; 1 c. white flour; 1 c. whole wheat flour; 1 c. oatmeal; dash of salt; 1/2 c. vegetable oil; 1/2 c. maple syrup or honey; 1 tsp. vanilla extract; place apple slices in a 9x12 glass pan, pour over juice and sprinkle over cinnamon, mix remaining ingredients together and crumble topping over apples, bake approximately 40 minutes in a 350°F/180°C oven

I like this Gaiman episode. Loved the Lochley/Zoe interaction the most, and the password - 3 words telling a story - Gaiman can be extremely economic with his words.
At the 20th B5 Anniversary convention at Galveston we had Bridget Flanery (Zoe) as a guest, and she was quite surprised (touched) of the fan reaction and fondness for a character having just a few minuted in a whole series of 5 seasons.
    Be seeing you.

Scott... you're right, but you're wrong.
The different pieces did need more room/time to brathe, but Morden was THE BEST. That smooth, creepy voice.

Na'Toth isn't dead. I have a theory that's why G'Kar sat out the episode (because otherwise it's quite out of character) in order to not give that away.

Perhaps another interesting visitor could have been Sinclair to come back and speak to Lennier? He would have told him the exact same information but it may have hit differently from Valen.

When I first saw Dr. Strange and Wong started laughing at the warnings are at the end of the spell, it hit me that he was being so Mimbari as outlined by Reebo.
Either of my grandfathers. One I never knew and the other took his military service to the grave and I can almost guarantee his record was one of the 70% lost in the record building fire. Nobody in the family has any firm idea of what he did other than airborne jeep driver.

I love the conspiracy theory segment!! Need to look up the zombie plan at some point... I also hope to go into disaster preparedness :) and the tax collection after a nuclear strike... well, that sounds ambitious. I've seen Threads, I don't think it'd have worked there. But honestly, I just hope to never have to find out.
On another note, I am now going to bed. Nice bedtime story, I'm curious what I might dream of...

Ha, Jessie, almost nothing comes out of Teller/Zooty's mouth! 😁 I was delighted to see Penn and Teller guest star in B5.
On a serious note: Yeah, this is the other episode that I mentioned previously that helped me appreciate Capt. Lockley more. To know how the death of Zoe affected her (and still does if her password is still "Zoe's Dead") and how much she had to pull her life back together from nearly the same fate as Zoe. That might also explain why a relationship with Sheridan didn't work since she was either wilder then or trying to recover and likely over-correct, and Sheridan was probably a little too "goody-two-shoes" for her at the time.
I liked the concept of episode for sure. I can see some of the people that visiting our characters, but a few seemed odd. I agree that a one-night-stand for Dodger and Garibaldi was a little strange. I think Lennier got cheated. Mr. Morden would have made better sense to appear to Vir, Londo, Sheridan, or even G'Kar. Markus would have been better for Lennier. Keffer would have been fun, and I guess if he was still alive, he might have seen the other two GROPOS (that he was forced to room with). Heck, Londo could have head a line of people waiting to see him from Morden, to Lord Reefa, either of the previous two emperors, etc.
The Kosh message might have been my favorite part of the entire episode. 🙂
I didn't even think about Anna visiting Sheridan... That could have been good.

It's always been my take that using "Zoe's dead" as her password is a daily reminder to Lochley not to backslide into addiction because of what the consequences were last time, as much as a memorial to Zoe.

About Lennier coming back from Ranger training with darker edges... Marcus said Rangers told him he has a lot of repressed anger and he is not repressed anymore. Rangers make you face yourself, likt the trainee that had to face the fact he needs to help others even when he is not involved or the trainee that had to face the fact he was afraid of being beaten again in the terror episode. Lennier refuses to listen to Morden here and he is avoiding the feelings he has for Delenn which is why went to Rangers in the first place. Of course he seems darker now, he is hiding stuff, even from himself.

I always toom the Morden scene as, this is exactly who he was at the end, but this is the day after; the day when his contract with The shadows has expired, rather than being their servant.

Also, Penn & Teller represent the humor that you don't get but everyone else thinks is hilarious. Lockley is represents the viewer with that point of view as well. Everyone is watching Rebo & Zooty and laughing hysterically, and Lockly (us) just looks on thinking 'this isn't funny'.
The swing between serial stories, one-off ones, etc. is also a by-product of the on-again/off-again nature of Season 5. There are storylines that would have been brought forward into Season 4 or maybe developed in other ways. You throw in the whole TNT network wanting to grow viewership or set up spin-offs, and Season 5 ended up being a little disjointed. Good, but uneven.
