Thank you for doing this mod. The center stack has been the only major drawback with the cockpit design. Seeing this work is "literally" a refresh that could move units.

Don't think it was in the video, but make sure you connect the USB adapter that comes with the screen if you want to upload music via USB or update the firmware in the future. I forgot to put mine in so had to find a different method to store my music since I did not want to exclusively stream music via Bluetooth (tedious to take apart and reinstall). Aside from that, install is straight forward and the product works as should. This video is a great tutorial! You won't have any issues.
@@Reytose1 I guess I should say harness. It's provided with the screen. You'll see where to plug it in on the back of the Tesla screen. If you decide to plug in the USB harness, I believe you will need to figure out a way to run it from the back of the screen to the center console.

During the video you said there was an extra step to install the USB in the glove compartment. Was that something I missed or did you mean to leave it out of the video? Question. You didnt meantion anything about connecting or using piggy back from the top screen to tesla unit. Did you or you just plugged everything back to the top screen the way it originaly was and just left it like that? If u plugged it back in. Does that screen work anymore or is it dead?

Does 14:10 cable allow the usb ports to work with the aucar? On my 2014 it doesnt work. I saw there is a harness for 2 usb ports that connects via a brown port on the back of the aucar but no idea where the usb ports from the harness go
varies by car. I can't use the OEM usb ports for the tesla screen on my car but I've heard it works for others. run the USB ports either to the armrest or to your glovebox.

OK, finally got one of these, and finally got it installed. I'm a complete novice so it was a struggle for me. But I'm happy with it. But... My rear view camera is backwards, and the lines are missing. Any idea how to resolve this? Thanks.

would this fit the Japanese version (Nissan skyline) I have a 2015 nissan skyline with the same systems as infiniti q50 but its defective. so im wondering if this unit could work on it.
It should work. But if your OEM system is defective this isn't guaranteed to fix your issues (depending on the issue - if its just a defective screen, then this is a good solve).
hey so my Mark 6 was working fine.. all of a sudden the screen is black. Still lit, but black.. and the unit hvac buttons are still work & lit up.. Any ideas?

(worked flawlessly with my mk5) also now a year in the speakers in my car and the bass cut off.. some days its loud and strong as usual then others its like a kitchen radio with no bass.. Ive checked the connections for the mk6 install, did the factory speaker test and they all work.. I get code 39 in the self diag page.. says the signals to the bose amp and speakers are all good.. could it be my MK6?
Also the self diag says amp and speakers connections are solid. I checked audio, and both amp fuses under the dash fuse box.. tested them w a meter & looked at them and theyre good.. Could the MK6 be causing this?

The shutdowns in Shenzhen certainly aren't helping 😮💨 2) the Sergey software is a one time purchase, and he frequently provides updates (ota in most cases) that resolve issues and unlock new features. May be a dumb question. I am thinking of getting the Mark 6 which I assume is a similar install. I also have the smartautokit tab version. Did you need to open the screen and remove the PCM board or just the piggy back? I really dont want to have to open screen again lol.
I hear you, I've had the smartautokits and done the install 🤣🤣 I removed it completely before installing the MK5/MK6 but that was just because I wanted to resell it.. I can't guarantee it would work with the pcm board still in, but my gut says you would probably be fine.

Not a stupid question. The only time where your phone would batter is when you're running Carplay or Android auto. Carplay and Android Auto both operate well, through the same app (Zlink). There is a *slight* edge to having an iPhone: carplay works both wired and wirelessly, while Android auto is wired only
Pre-welcome to the VQ Q50 family! Yeah the OEM screens are useless (in my opinion). I love the Tesla screen upgrade. Its not perfect, and its definitely not iPad speeds but its way better responsiveness and infinitely better features than the OEM screens. And yes totally compatible with a 14.
Nice. Thinking about it. My lower screen is getting cloudy and bubbling.. Too much heat in FL. (2014 Q50) Might be a nice upgrade. But on video, the side buttons (defrost) looks a little wonky. Is it noticable or fixable?

Thanks for the great vid...I ordered and am about to start the install. My biggest question...does the unit not use the mic and speakers from the OEM? do you have to use the mic/speaker provided in the kit in order to do hands free calls? I would think that once you are in "car play" it would use the organic mic for phone calls.

Do you have to plug it into that ??? Cuz I hooked up the wire that connects to the cars usb ports , but it won't initialized android auto.. and the wireless doesn't work either

Just some questions just cause you did it all and your so informative, I can imagine you tested a lot of stuff. For example the aucar mic, do you have to use it? Or can the infiniti factory mics for the hand free still work? Are there any functions that you lost thanks tlt he tesla screen or does everything work like factory? Do you ever have to update it? Ik you got the surge firmware jump in another video but does it do its own updates or does it have to be manually downloded on a usb to update it? Oh and this one is dumb but does the gps work with in dash screen in the instrument cluster?
-no need to use the included mic, the system will fallback to your OEM mics -all factory functions are retained and you have access to the factory menus via InTouch. -all screens ship with the latest firmware and updates are infrequent. In the event of an update, it's done via USB - OEM gps works, but the beauty of these screens is they're full Android so you can use Google or Waze navigation which in my opinion is infinitely better than oe nav Also note: the MK6 is out now.

Had my mk6 for about 3 months now. I have a 2018 q50 red sport, Recently my camera does not come on when car is in reverse or in front view. Error message EventCenter keeps stopping. How do I fix this
Hey Rob , seasons greetings , So I had my top unit replaced on my Q50 and all functions are back again 😊. So my next step is to upgrade to the au car mark 5, as you have . One question though, I read in some discussions that some of the aucar units cause the airbag light to come on. Did you experience the same issue with the Mark 5 . Glad to hear u got your top screen sorted, Reaper! So on the Q50, there is a little airbag indicator light that turns on when there's nobody in the passenger seat: ruclips.net/video/XoNHV2I7O7s/видео.html The MK5 moved that indicator to a location on the left of the screen, and it behaves the same way. Not a glitch or bug in my opinion, and totally not 'caused by' the MK5, but people complain about anything these days 😅😅 HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!

Nope if you don't connect the mic it will detect your cars mic for Bluetooth and voice assistant. Download Headunit Reloaded for Android auto wireless. ENJOY!! 👍🏾👍🏾
Hey, so I installed the product about 5 days ago and I'm having an issue with the android auto, my phone will say its hooked up to the car but when you press car auto on the mark5, the zlink always says waiting, randomly it worked once when I started the car and left warming it up, and thats exactly how i want to use this product, how do I get this zlink to work every time?
Is there a difference between the MK5 clone and the original? Is one recommended over the other? Also, does the forward camera and 360 view work with this? I only heard mention of the rear camera? And lastly, what does the firmware upgrade actually upgrade? Is it needed to operate properly?
Hardware wise, they're similar, if not the same. Apparently there's a different software version on the clone. I haven't seen it to be able to compare. Forward/360 cameras work on all years/trims. When I made this video, the only context I had was my own Q, which only has rear cameras. This link lists most of the tweaks the firmware upgrade enables. I have a 2014 q50s and both my screens have recently been going black but the camera still works sometimes and some days both screen work perfectly fine until I turn off the car.I want to get this mark 5 screen but I’m not sure if I need to replace anything ?
Depends what's causing the screens to go out. If it's a screen issue, then no need to replace anything, this unit would work. But if it's something upstream from the screens (like wiring or source signals), then it might still go black when you're in the InTouch menus. Everything else should work tho.
Couple questions. 1, I have two subs in my trunk. Any extra wiring I need to do? 2, my car came factory with a gps. So do I still need to use the antenna in the kit?
Good questions. 1) NOPE plug and play. You may want to use the 16-band EQ to fine tune the sound but that’s it 2) Assuming you’re getting the MK6 (not the mk5 in this video), it will come with an adapter so you can use your factory gps antenna. You can throw the kits puck away.
I just heard that my display unit control is bad DCU and I was wondering if I replace with mk5 or mk6 I will solve the issue or do I need to replace the DCU then the screen? Thxs

Not that I've noticed. Heat doesn't really emanate from the front of screens so it probably ventilates and cools itself just the same as it would without the MK5 in place
I don't see where you connected the USB to back of screen or how you ran through your console. Can you show that. Also, everything works as advertised except Android Audio. What an I missing?

hello, I had to install mark 1 it had worked 2 months, I had to replace it by the mark second generation reversing camera problem and the warnig does not work any more. I hope the mark v is better, I would like to buy it but I am afraid that it has problems like the previous two, please tell me if there are any guarantees. have a good day.
The Mark 1-3 were buggy devices that frankly weren't ready for consumer use. The MK5 has a lot of upgrades that resolve the common usability and compatibility issues in previous iterations. Backup cameras and sonar are proven to work fine with the MK5, and AuCar backs their products with great support, too.
Not sure/it depends Most of the normal android stuff *should* work, but any of the stuff that relies on data to/from the car might not (like fm radio, drive mode selector, control knob, AC, etc]
I have a question, i installed this but it looks like the screen has shortages to the point where the brightness dims to absolute 0 and I can’t find the issues, I disassemble it almost everyday lmaoo 😖
I have a couple of questions. The Mark 5 I received came with a dual USB cable that connects to the back of the unit. Is this a extra set for the rear passengers, for example? Also, do I have to use the Mark 5 mic or the will the Q50 mic continue to work after the Mark 5 is installed? Thanks!
The 2 USBs are inputs for the MK5 unit. I ran my mine through the center armrest, and I use them to plug in external thumb drive or connect my phone to use Android Auto. I didn't connect the provided mic, I just use my factory Q50 mic for calls and voice commands. Enjoy!!!
@@sevensynycal yep. Initially I ran them over and the console latched fine, but I ended up drilling and running the wires through for a cleaner, stealthier install.
Up to 2019 I can say works consistently. Wiring changed in the 2020+, and AuCar sends a different unit for them. I haven't had anyone with a 2020+ order from me, so I really can't report on them confidently.
I’m having a problem with my mark 5 unit it won’t play music but if I go to InTouch it will play music it just doesn’t play though any of the apps on the screen
Make sure your car's audio source is set to AUX when playing through the MK5... If it still doesn't work, it is probably a loose connection so double check all the connections are seated securely 👍🏾

I've heard that some people have issues with their 360 camera and that the map/camera/back buttons don't work. Is this the case for you? That's the only thing holding me back.
That's true. You're referring to a known issue that only exists on 2018 Redsports with 360 cameras. The camera button doesn't work, so you can't trigger 360 view by pressing it. 360 view still automatically turns on when u put the car in reverse or when the sonar is triggered. This issue doesn't affect other years/trims, so if you have a another year or trim you're good.
Do you sell all the harnesses that I can buy I just bought one off of eBay and he tried to scams me with no converter harnesses at all to connect to my oem radio
I see you had the smartautokit installed on it before this. Do you need to take remove the daughterboard on the top screen from the smartautokit in order to make this work?
I don't think I *needed* to, but I did because they're duplicative - the MK5 does everything the SAK unit does and more. Plus I wanted to share a vanilla-like install experience since that's what most will be dealing with 🤘🏾😎
You pay for a 4g plan through your carrier and insert the sim into the unit for full-time data. OR you can setup your phone as a hotspot if u want to piggyback off your phone's data

The top screen is still there and working away normally. Sometimes I feel bad for it. Connect everything as shown and you'll be good to go.

Works great with OEM microphones. I installed mine in a junk drawer 😅

It should work. But if your OEM system is defective this isn't guaranteed to fix your issues (depending on the issue - if its just a defective screen, then this is a good solve).
hey so my Mark 6 was working fine.. all of a sudden the screen is black. Still lit, but black.. and the unit hvac buttons are still work & lit up.. Any ideas?

(worked flawlessly with my mk5) also now a year in the speakers in my car and the bass cut off.. some days its loud and strong as usual then others its like a kitchen radio with no bass.. Ive checked the connections for the mk6 install, did the factory speaker test and they all work.. I get code 39 in the self diag page.. says the signals to the bose amp and speakers are all good.. could it be my MK6?
Also the self diag says amp and speakers connections are solid. I checked audio, and both amp fuses under the dash fuse box.. tested them w a meter & looked at them and theyre good.. Could the MK6 be causing this?

1) yes the new screen is still severely delayed. The shutdowns in Shenzhen certainly aren't helping 😮💨
2) the Sergey software is a one time purchase, and he frequently provides updates (ota in most cases) that resolve issues and unlock new features. I can't say enough good things, I'm a big fan of how he works.

May be a dumb question. I am thinking of getting the Mark 6 which I assume is a similar install. I also have the smartautokit tab version. Did you need to open the screen and remove the PCM board or just the piggy back? I really dont want to have to open screen again lol.

I removed it completely before installing the MK5/MK6 but that was just because I wanted to resell it.. I can't guarantee it would work with the pcm board still in, but my gut says you would probably be fine.

Not a stupid question. The only time where your phone would batter is when you're running Carplay or Android auto. Carplay and Android Auto both operate well, through the same app (Zlink).
There is a *slight* edge to having an iPhone: carplay works both wired and wirelessly, while Android auto is wired only

Pre-welcome to the VQ Q50 family! Yeah the OEM screens are useless (in my opinion). I love the Tesla screen upgrade. Its not perfect, and its definitely not iPad speeds but its way better responsiveness and infinitely better features than the OEM screens. And yes totally compatible with a 14.
Nice. Thinking about it. My lower screen is getting cloudy and bubbling.. Too much heat in FL. (2014 Q50) Might be a nice upgrade. But on video, the side buttons (defrost) looks a little wonky. Is it noticable or fixable?

Thanks for the great vid...I ordered and am about to start the install. My biggest question...does the unit not use the mic and speakers from the OEM? do you have to use the mic/speaker provided in the kit in order to do hands free calls? I would think that once you are in "car play" it would use the organic mic for phone calls.
I've seen it mentioned that the unit will work fine with the oem mic and speakers. No need to install those included with the mk5.

Great video ! Helped alot !! But I'm having an issue with android auto ... Can not make it come on for the life of me... What am I missing ?? Did you hook up the double usb connector it came with ? Do you have to plug it into that ??? Cuz I hooked up the wire that connects to the cars usb ports , but it won't initialized android auto.. and the wireless doesn't work either

Just some questions just cause you did it all and your so informative, I can imagine you tested a lot of stuff. For example the aucar mic, do you have to use it? Or can the infiniti factory mics for the hand free still work? Are there any functions that you lost thanks tlt he tesla screen or does everything work like factory? Do you ever have to update it? Ik you got the surge firmware jump in another video but does it do its own updates or does it have to be manually downloded on a usb to update it? Oh and this one is dumb but does the gps work with in dash screen in the instrument cluster?
-no need to use the included mic, the system will fallback to your OEM mics
-all factory functions are retained and you have access to the factory menus via InTouch.
-all screens ship with the latest firmware and updates are infrequent. In the event of an update, it's done via USB
- OEM gps works, but the beauty of these screens is they're full Android so you can use Google or Waze navigation which in my opinion is infinitely better than oe nav

Hey Rob , seasons greetings , So I had my top unit replaced on my Q50 and all functions are back again 😊. So my next step is to upgrade to the au car mark 5, as you have . One question though, I read in some discussions that some of the aucar units cause the airbag light to come on. Did you experience the same issue with the Mark 5 . So on the Q50, there is a little airbag indicator light that turns on when there's nobody in the passenger seat: ruclips.net/video/XoNHV2I7O7s/видео.html
The MK5 moved that indicator to a location on the left of the screen, and it behaves the same way.
Not a glitch or bug in my opinion, and totally not 'caused by' the MK5, but people complain about anything these days 😅😅

Nope if you don't connect the mic it will detect your cars mic for Bluetooth and voice assistant. Download Headunit Reloaded for Android auto wireless. ENJOY!! 👍🏾👍🏾

Hey, so I installed the product about 5 days ago and I'm having an issue with the android auto, my phone will say its hooked up to the car but when you press car auto on the mark5, the zlink always says waiting, randomly it worked once when I started the car and left warming it up, and thats exactly how i want to use this product, how do I get this zlink to work every time?
Is there a difference between the MK5 clone and the original? Is one recommended over the other? Also, does the forward camera and 360 view work with this? I only heard mention of the rear camera? And lastly, what does the firmware upgrade actually upgrade? Is it needed to operate properly?
Hardware wise, they're similar, if not the same. Apparently there's a different software version on the clone. I haven't seen it to be able to compare.
Forward/360 cameras work on all years/trims. When I made this video, the only context I had was my own Q, which only has rear cameras.

I have a 2014 q50s and both my screens have recently been going black but the camera still works sometimes and some days both screen work perfectly fine until I turn off the car.I want to get this mark 5 screen but I’m not sure if I need to replace anything ?
Depends what's causing the screens to go out. If it's a screen issue, then no need to replace anything, this unit would work. But if it's something upstream from the screens (like wiring or source signals), then it might still go black when you're in the InTouch menus. Everything else should work tho.

Couple questions. 1, I have two subs in my trunk. Any extra wiring I need to do? 2, my car came factory with a gps. So do I still need to use the antenna in the kit?
Good questions.
1) NOPE plug and play. You may want to use the 16-band EQ to fine tune the sound but that’s it
2) Assuming you’re getting the MK6 (not the mk5 in this video), it will come with an adapter so you can use your factory gps antenna. You can throw the kits puck away.

It's still back there on and doing it's thing. The MK5 just piggybacks the signal 👍🏾

Not that I've noticed. Heat doesn't really emanate from the front of screens so it probably ventilates and cools itself just the same as it would without the MK5 in place

Nope - this unit basically sends sound through your factory AUX channel, so your Bose processing and amplification is unaffected

hello, I had to install mark 1 it had worked 2 months, I had to replace it by the mark second generation reversing camera problem and the warnig does not work any more.
I hope the mark v is better, I would like to buy it but I am afraid that it has problems like the previous two, please tell me if there are any guarantees.

The Mark 1-3 were buggy devices that frankly weren't ready for consumer use.
The MK5 has a lot of upgrades that resolve the common usability and compatibility issues in previous iterations.
Backup cameras and sonar are proven to work fine with the MK5, and AuCar backs their products with great support, too.

Not sure/it depends Most of the normal android stuff *should* work, but any of the stuff that relies on data to/from the car might not (like fm radio, drive mode selector, control knob, AC, etc]

the mk6 has a different back end than the mk5, how do i know which is which to install on. are all accessories needed?
I have a couple of questions. The Mark 5 I received came with a dual USB cable that connects to the back of the unit. Is this a extra set for the rear passengers, for example? Also, do I have to use the Mark 5 mic or the will the Q50 mic continue to work after the Mark 5 is installed? Thanks!
The 2 USBs are inputs for the MK5 unit. I ran my mine through the center armrest, and I use them to plug in external thumb drive or connect my phone to use Android Auto.
I didn't connect the provided mic, I just use my factory Q50 mic for calls and voice commands. Enjoy!!!

@@sevensynycal yep. Initially I ran them over and the console latched fine, but I ended up drilling and running the wires through for a cleaner, stealthier install.

Up to 2019 I can say works consistently. Wiring changed in the 2020+, and AuCar sends a different unit for them. I haven't had anyone with a 2020+ order from me, so I really can't report on them confidently.

Yep. My car doesn't have navigation but this unit works just like a tablet. You can install Google maps, Waze, etc and use it as navigation 🔥🔥
I’m having a problem with my mark 5 unit it won’t play music but if I go to InTouch it will play music it just doesn’t play though any of the apps on the screen
Make sure your car's audio source is set to AUX when playing through the MK5... If it still doesn't work, it is probably a loose connection so double check all the connections are seated securely 👍🏾

I've heard that some people have issues with their 360 camera and that the map/camera/back buttons don't work. Is this the case for you? That's the only thing holding me back.
That's true. You're referring to a known issue that only exists on 2018 Redsports with 360 cameras. The camera button doesn't work, so you can't trigger 360 view by pressing it. 360 view still automatically turns on when u put the car in reverse or when the sonar is triggered.
This issue doesn't affect other years/trims, so if you have a another year or trim you're good.

Check your connections and make sure they're all clicked in tight! 10 times outta 10 if something doesn't work, it's something not connected right 👍🏾
I see you had the smartautokit installed on it before this. Do you need to take remove the daughterboard on the top screen from the smartautokit in order to make this work?
I don't think I *needed* to, but I did because they're duplicative - the MK5 does everything the SAK unit does and more.
Plus I wanted to share a vanilla-like install experience since that's what most will be dealing with 🤘🏾😎

You pay for a 4g plan through your carrier and insert the sim into the unit for full-time data. OR you can setup your phone as a hotspot if u want to piggyback off your phone's data
