After searching and searching I have finally found you and your pattern with a rounded hood! Seems everywhere I looked they were pointy. I love your channel!
Girlie Bunches sent me over and I have to say, I love your videos. I've just watched several and I really like your teaching. Very clear instructions and I know it's off topic, but you've got beautiful nails. 😊 I can't wait to see what else you've done. I'm subscribing. 😉 xx
+Laura Filby You are too kind! I love Girlibunches (Olivia), she is such a great person. Thank you for the kind comments about the nails but it can be scaring how large and detailed they look on screen so I try to remember to keep them clean before doing a tutorial like this!
I just wanted to say that I finally finished this project and I am glad its done, my scarf isn't as long as yours but I will be making another on real soon!
Make sure you printout the pattern (which I don't read patterns very well ) but it will greatly help you keep up with her on the video. I checked off the rounds as I did them and marked the video time on each row. I got confused with the no increase stitches at the end of round 5- make sure you mark your 45th stitch while you're there, which she did not until later. Round 6 also has increases which was not clear in the video but it's is on the pattern :)
Just found your videos and subscribed I love your easy to understand and see your work. I will definitely look for more of your tutorials and already saved this one to mg do list! Thank you!
Great tutorial, I've seen several scoodies and this one looks the best so far - unfortunately, I haven't really done any crocheting yet, so I'll have to wait a bit this one.
Sech Met I'm really happy you like the look of this one. I think it looks more complicated than it is, but it's fairly easy once you get started on it.
I was a bit afraid because the tutorial said advanced, but I started it anyway. It was a little problematic at first, because I chose antrachite color and couldn't see what I was doing, so the circle is a bit messy, but because of the color it's not really that noticeable. I just hope I didn't do it too small. I got 5 mm yarn and 5,5 mm hook - i got to line 12 with the circle, but it still was just 16 cm wide when I stoped doing the circles. But if it turnes out too small, I'll just make wider scarf :)
Fun pattern and using bulky weight yarn makes this soooo thick it is sure to be nice and warm! I do wonder why you sew your pieces together rather than crocheting them together? I am still working on the hood bit but I was thinking ahead about this and thought I'd ask. ;) Thank you for the pattern and the video. I am looking forward to seeing my completed scoodie!
Anita C You could crochet them together. But here's my reason for sewing instead of crocheting - the edge "ribs" are slightly thinner than the normal ribs and I can make those look the same size (as one rib when pushed together when sewn). I will sew back and forth under the edge "ribs" in one direction, then through the "ribs" together on the way back. If I remember in a future video, I'll try to describe this better. Does that make sense? Let me know if it doesn't
I found this tutorial beginning of the week,as I was looking for something to keep my granddaughter warm on the way to school..I didn’t have marble chunky ,which is one of my favourites to use ..I bought a couple weeks ago from Aldi’s 2 of their 400g Aran yarn, crown blue, I used a 6mm hook .. the hood bit I did 29 rows and the scarf I’ve lost count lol ,my granddaughter decided she wanted pockets in the scarf ,so having to make it longer than intend.. I weighed it all this morning and it was a little over 300g ,I’ve done some more to the scarf today .. I’ll have wait until I see my granddaughter tomorrow to see if the scarf is long enough yet, the Aran weight yarn is perfect for a 12 year old .. if I had used the marble chunky it would have been too big for her .. I have bought some 6 balls of marble chunky in 2 different colours to make one each for my oldest and youngest daughter for Christmas ,deamores had 30% off the price .. Anyway enough of my chit-chat enjoy the rest of your weekend, I’m watching all the pretty fireworks going off from my frontroom window .. xx
I will be very interested to hear how you get on with this. The first few I made had very long scarves which are probably too long for people's liking. Without watching the video again, I cannot remember what I said about the scarf length. Hope you enjoy making it!
I have worked so hard on this project and I LOVE it! PLEASE do a video on sewing them together. I am STUCK! I have had to take it out twice. This pattern is the incredible! I just need a little help on attaching. UGH
Hi Tracey, sorry to hear you've had a little trouble connecting the two parts. Have you tried crocheting them together? I have no plans to make another one of these in the near future so I'm trying to work out how to do a video which may help. Try pinning the pieces together first so they line up how you want before sewing them together.
24 Carat Crochet Thank you for replying so soon!!! I sewed them together today and it looks better wrong side out! Ugh! Oh well... my mom just loves it and she will never notice! Haha It is an incredible pattern and I will gift several of these for sure!
I was wondering is there a fingerless glove pattern that goes with the chunky ribbed scoodie. I would like it to match so it looks like a set. I enjoy learning from you and thank you.
Great video :) I don't know how to crochet but I am practicing my chains. Your very talented. I'd like to be able to make these someday. Love the pattern. Don't worry about your accent, it's great :) xo
InsideScarlet, sorry I can't "reply" to your message directly as there is no "reply" function under your question. I have a theory how this would work but unfortunately I don't have the time to test it. If you increase the crown section by an even number (go to ten rounds for instance), but do the fphdc and bphdc stitches in the same places as the others and align the increases in the same places, this may give you the effect you want.
Is it possible to increase the magic circle as well as the ending rounds of the hood to make the hood bigger and more full? Thank you for sharing your awesome pattern luv!!! =)
+InsideScarlet I hope you saw the reply I typed shortly after you left this comment. I see the settings have been changed and I can now reply directly to comments for those people I couldn't before.
Thank you! :) I'm wondering if you made it from cotton, if that would be better? I am currently working on a non-ribbed version but it may take me a couple of weeks to get it correct and longer if I get it tested etc. I'll certainly be mentioning it in a future video.
***** Cotton is a really good idea!! My winter gear is what most climates consider spring or fall. I also use baby yarn. Real winter gear only gets used for a month or two in Arizona. For example, I get to wear knee boots in winter, but ankle boots get worn in the fall, winter & spring.
I think it would work but I've not tried it myself. I think it should be no problem, let me know how it goes! You may notice the work will curl towards you for a few rounds but it'll settle down when you stop doing the increases.
It's nice..... I'm going to make me one.... I wish you would of shown how to sew it together.... Thank you for sharing your videos..... Have a great day
Thank you. I hope you enjoy making it. There are various ways to connect the parts and with hindsight it would have been useful to actually do one on camera. Essentially, as long as you have the hood lined up centrally along one edge, you can join by whatever method you prefer - single crochet stitches or sewing.
Wonderful Scoodie Pretty! Love it .Thank you for the wonderful Video I finally got it I Love The outcome of my scoodie cant wait to use it on winter here in Texas . :)
It is warm ,but some time in winter it get cold ,but not as cold as UK . I will try to make some to my sister's in California and Washington state. Thanks again. :)
Leilani Patton I've been to Texas in August a couple of times - around 16 - 17 years ago. "Hot" is hardly a good enough word for it! It certainly can get colder here in the UK than you get during your winters.
Yes ,but last year we had on and off cold fronts from Alaska , and they were cold we had it for about two weeks. If we have a cold front this year I'll be ready. Lol. Nice chatting with you have a wonderful week. :)
Unfortunately I don't have a printer but you said no more increases then after completing round 5 with the HDC after the 45th stitch you noted more increases in rd 6. That's very confusing. Are there or aren't there continued increases throughout your pattern. Or am I just S.O.L. without a printed pattern. The stitches are easy being experienced but knowing where they're placed is obviously imperative. 🤔
At 24:00 I say "there are no more increase stitches in that last little bit between the two stitch markers". There are increases on rounds further along in the pattern. Are you able to read the pattern ok on your computer or phone?
You're welcome. I loved doing it, even though it took a while. I've watched so many other people making great tutorials and I've learnt off other people so I wanted to do the same.
Hi Toni. Glad you like the pattern. You can get away without the sewing being particularly neat as the sewing will be well hidden. If you ensure the bottom ridge of the hood is facing outwards and the edge ridge of the scarf is also facing outwards and just sew along the two parts under these ridges, then you'll be fine.
in your audio video you confuse me at row 6 because you didn't show step by step like you did the other rose you skipped so I'm not sure if I'm following it like you did it
Thank you for the compliment! For blocking, it may depend what fibre type you are using. Results can be less successful with acrylic but definitely worth a try. I suggest you dampen the project and lay it out flat, probably best with pins until it dries. For the hood section, if you have a mannequin head, you could dampen the hood and put it on the mannequin head until it dries. Hope that helps.
how could I make this without the ripples, I'm a fast crocheter and can't do the front post/back post it messes me up. I absolutely love this and want to make if there's another way
Hi Ray. I have made six different hooded scarf designs. 3 are free patterns and 3 are paid for. 2 of the 6 don't have any fpdc or bpdc stitches and those are both free. Here's a link to all my patterns if you want to have a look. www.ravelry.com/designers/zoe-deterding
I love it!!! Very nice!!! Just a little long winded. You could have sewn the scarf before the video was up. But you kept talking and it was taking up time that could have been used to show how you put it together.
Thanks Elise. It's difficult getting the balance right. Some people like a lot of detail but others will find that too much information and make the video longer than they need. If I miss all the small details, there will be more questions about how something is done. Thanks for the feedback, it's very useful.
Hi Judy, the link for the pattern is at the top of the description box below or next to the video. I'll link it here too for you. www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/chunky-ribbed-scoodie
+Siobhan Campbell Hi Siobham. The two scoodies pictures on the "thumbnail" of this video used three balls of James C Brett Marble Chunky yarn (200g each) but the length of the scarf is very long and comes down to my ankles. You could easily make one of a sensible length using only two balls of this yarn or the equivalent yardage. I hope this helps. Each 200g ball of this yarn is 341 yards.
Is there a particular point in the pattern where this doesn't make sense? Most of the bpdc and fpdc stitches line up with the same stitch below giving the ribbed effect - alternating between the two stitches.
Hi Beate. I am glad you found the scarf easy. Have you downloaded the written pattern? That shows all the numbers. Unfortunately I do not speak German.
I usually see how they yarn over and how close the hook point is and yarn wrap are to the work. Both are dead giveaways. I knitted years ago but it can Not hold a candle to the beauty of crochet.
+sandra domer It's interesting you should ask and glad you found the other comments. Maybe I should seriously consider doing a pattern for fingerless gloves. It will go on my to-do list. I can't promise when I'll be able to do this but it will go on my list. :)
+sandra domer I've been a little over careful with checking messages today and duplicating things a bit (not had enough coffee today!). I'm moving up this on my "to-do" list as more of a priority but hope you don't mind waiting a bit. I have recently had a friend asking for fingerless gloves too.
There is no incorrect way to crochet. I hope you found the video helpful, it shows how to make a particular project (rather than how to do a yarn over).
kitten54619 I shall have a look at the pattern shortly and see if I can see any problems with it. The pattern was extensively tested and it was ok. The only thing I would suggest in the meantime is that maybe you can check the last 11 or 12 stitches (which have no increases) from round five onwards.
Round 5 (n.b. stitches after ** are half double crochet post stitches) * bpdc in first stitch, fpdc in second stitch, bpdc in third stitch, fpdc x 2 into fourth stitch. Repeat from * 9 times. ** bphdc in the next stitch, fphdc in the next stitch. Repeat from ** 5 times then one more bphdc and finish on a fpdc. Place a stitch marker on 45th stitch (three quarters of the round) and progress it up with each round. Total of 57 stitches. These are the instructions for round 5. It's worked normally until you get three quarters of the way around and then there are no increases. This is exactly what it says and it looks ok to me. Is it easy to explain how the stitches don't line up? Is there a way you can take a good photograph and post it on my FB page?
Ok I figured it out now after I had started all over again, I am doing much better reading the pattern, and now I am on round 7! yay, well so far so good. I will let you know how it turned out when I am finished.
Generally, if you ensure you do a bpdc on a bpdc and a fpdc on a fpdc, you should be fine. Sometimes it's difficult to help over the internet. Do you have anyone locally who crochets who can have a look at what you've done so far? The pattern has been thoroughly tested before it was made available.
Not sure if you've looked at the pattern, but this is where I got lost, too. Looking at the pattern, you're supposed to increase in the fifth stitch (so on the fifth, it is a bpdc AND a fpdc on the same stitch) i must have missed it in the video. That's how things line up again. It was driving me mad
After searching and searching I have finally found you and your pattern with a rounded hood! Seems everywhere I looked they were pointy. I love your channel!

Danke für das schöne Video.Werde es sofort nachhäkeln.Reliefstäbchen sehen immer super aus.
Anita Mussul Thank you for the thank you. My German isn't too good, so I can't reply in German, sorry.
I had one of these and lost it. I've been looking for a pattern to make me one. I'm SOOO excited to get started on this!! 😀
Thank you, I hope you enjoy making it.

You are terrific!!!! You should see my scoodie that YOU taught me to make, less scarf though for mine. I wish I could attach a pic. Thank to-♡
+Patsy Woods His Child awwww shucks, you're making me blush!
you said round 5 was just alternating no increases but there is .messed me up till i read directions but thank you so much . i love it
The last part of round 5 has no increases. Glad you got it sorted and you love it!
Thank you so much! This is breathtakingly beautiful
Many thanks Suzanne!

+Loretta Ennis It's possible someone has done something like that but I haven't. Thanks for the idea, I might look into doing something like that.
Beautiful, thank you!
Thank you! :)
That was a fantastic tutorial, thanks for sharing. I'm gonna have to get me some JCBMC xxx
Thanks Cheryl! :)
Great video :) I don't know how to crochet but I am practicing my chains. Your very talented. I'd like to be able to make these someday. Love the pattern. Don't worry about your accent, it's great :) xo
One day, I plan to make some videos which explain the basics. There are some great videos on RUclips already. Thanks for watching :)
Thanks for the tutorial I totally plan to make one for winter - it gets crazy cold in Canada:)
Thanks Cassver

Your work is *beautiful* and your are easy for me to understand =^)
I live in Arizona (desert climate) & wonder how I could make a lightweight version
Thank you! :) I'm wondering if you made it from cotton, if that would be better? I am currently working on a non-ribbed version but it may take me a couple of weeks to get it correct and longer if I get it tested etc. I'll certainly be mentioning it in a future video.

Cotton is a really good idea!! My winter gear is what most climates consider spring or fall. I also use baby yarn. Real winter gear only gets used for a month or two in Arizona. For example, I get to wear knee boots in winter, but ankle boots get worn in the fall, winter & spring.

Wonderful Scoodie Pretty! Love it .Thank you for the wonderful Video I finally got it I Love The outcome of my scoodie cant wait to use it on winter here in Texas .

Those are beautiful.

they are gorgeous---I love the color combo : )

I love this scoodie ❤

I love this pattern thank you so much for taking the time to teach us it. Do you have any simple but elegant fingerless glove tutorials. Thank you.
I do have a pattern for fingerless gloves but I have not had time to make a video on it. Sorry.
Sweet... Your fine. I know you are busy. I know you'll "hook" us up with it soon.... Lol
So beautiful I love it
Thank you Yvonne
Hi really interested in making myself and my kids one how do I know what size or does it just go from hat sizes?
+GemoRaven I haven't actually tried making smaller versions myself but it should work if you base the sizing on hat sizing.
Thank you for the video and pattern
You're welcome. I loved doing it, even though it took a while. I've watched so many other people making great tutorials and I've learnt off other people so I wanted to do the same.
Lovely pattern. Just what I was looking for! Followed well, up until the sewing part! Dangit. Not quite sure how to see my pieces together!
Hi Toni. Glad you like the pattern. You can get away without the sewing being particularly neat as the sewing will be well hidden. If you ensure the bottom ridge of the hood is facing outwards and the edge ridge of the scarf is also facing outwards and just sew along the two parts under these ridges, then you'll be fine.
in your audio video you confuse me at row 6 because you didn't show step by step like you did the other rose you skipped so I'm not sure if I'm following it like you did it
My stitches are nowhere near as neat as yours. Do you have any suggestions on how to block this piece?
Thank you for the compliment! For blocking, it may depend what fibre type you are using. Results can be less successful with acrylic but definitely worth a try. I suggest you dampen the project and lay it out flat, probably best with pins until it dries. For the hood section, if you have a mannequin head, you could dampen the hood and put it on the mannequin head until it dries. Hope that helps.

how many balls of yarn did you use
+Siobhan Campbell Hi Siobham. The two scoodies pictures on the "thumbnail" of this video used three balls of James C Brett Marble Chunky yarn (200g each) but the length of the scarf is very long and comes down to my ankles. You could easily make one of a sensible length using only two balls of this yarn or the equivalent yardage. I hope this helps. Each 200g ball of this yarn is 341 yards.
***** yes it does thank you im actually watching the tutorial right, im planning on making this for a friend
That's great. If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask.
you said to alternate back post and front post but I don't have two stitches on the same thing. I'm confused
Is there a particular point in the pattern where this doesn't make sense? Most of the bpdc and fpdc stitches line up with the same stitch below giving the ribbed effect - alternating between the two stitches.
round six. you said alternate but didn't say anything about the increases till the end. I might've screwed up on that round
It may help if you are also following the written pattern.
I couldn't open the written pattern
Would you like me to send it to you? Are you on Ravelry?
I didn't catch the size of the needle she is using. Can anyone help me out? :)
The hook size used in this video is 7mm which should work out fine for this project if you are using a similar weight yarn.
what does the * mean in the pattern?
It's probably the start of a repeat section. Does the pattern say repeat from * ?
Hi Beate. I am glad you found the scarf easy. Have you downloaded the written pattern? That shows all the numbers. Unfortunately I do not speak German.
vous pouvez expliquer en français les augmentations combien il y en na svp merci si vous pouvez répondre
Sorry, my French isn't good. I will ask a friend to translate. :)
Funny how you can almost tell when someone has learned knitting before they learned crochet :)
Chantal Lynn Yes, you can often tell the influences.
I usually see how they yarn over and how close the hook point is and yarn wrap are to the work. Both are dead giveaways. I knitted years ago but it can Not hold a candle to the beauty of crochet.
well I shoulda read some the comments I'd found out about the fingerless gloves. Lol
+sandra domer It's interesting you should ask and glad you found the other comments. Maybe I should seriously consider doing a pattern for fingerless gloves. It will go on my to-do list. I can't promise when I'll be able to do this but it will go on my list. :)
+24 Carat Crochet sweet that would be awesome thank you very much I love your patterns and can't wait to see your fingerless glove pattern.
+sandra domer I've been a little over careful with checking messages today and duplicating things a bit (not had enough coffee today!). I'm moving up this on my "to-do" list as more of a priority but hope you don't mind waiting a bit. I have recently had a friend asking for fingerless gloves too.
You either have asked this countless times or RUclips is repeating comments. OMG.
💖👌🌹😍
muito lindo esse gorro.. queria esse vídeo em português ou espanhol...😭 não entendi nada!!!
Unfortunately, I do not speak Portuguese, sorry. I may look into getting the audio translated.
Who is teaching people to yarn over with the left hand? That's what the hook is for.
There is no incorrect way to crochet. I hope you found the video helpful, it shows how to make a particular project (rather than how to do a yarn over).
ok
Thanks for watching Anna.
😖😖😖😘
For some reason I am struggling with this project#sadface
kitten54619 Which bit in particular are you having trouble with?
round 5 and round 6, the
lines are not matching up.
kitten54619 I shall have a look at the pattern shortly and see if I can see any problems with it. The pattern was extensively tested and it was ok. The only thing I would suggest in the meantime is that maybe you can check the last 11 or 12 stitches (which have no increases) from round five onwards.
Round 5 (n.b. stitches after ** are half double crochet post stitches)
* bpdc in first stitch, fpdc in second stitch, bpdc in third stitch, fpdc x 2 into fourth stitch.
You lost me on round 6 :(
+Angela Aricayos have you downloaded the written pattern? That might help.
24 Carat Crochet I did but the front and back post didn't line up in the pattern
+bracchitta6177 You are a godsend! Thank you!!
Taking tu much ok
Silvia Alvarado I'm glad you enjoyed it.
She's fine. You're rude.
