Great video. I, took, have an FS-700R, and I use it with my Convergent Design 7Q. If shooting with normal exposure, I agree that this thing is quite noisy. But since shooting RAW with it uses the S-Log convention, I simply overexpose by 1.5-2 stops, and my footage tends to be rather clean with low light (not going beyond ISO 6400). I also use a Metabones SpeedBooster to give it the full-sized sensor feel, and that grants an additional stop of light.
Never thought an interview between cameras would be so hilarious. I just got the Sony FS700 with the 4k upgrade as well from EBay. Such a great camera.

It’s interesting to see people coming around to this camera all these years later. I got the FS700 and it’s little brother the FS100 In 2013. They were the cameras that I launched my business with. I always got kind of the side eye from Canon shooters for going Sony early on. Everyone was still very loyal to the Canon 5DM2. But it’s gratifying to know that I wasn’t nuts for zigging when everyone else was zagging. But at the time, even at the original pricing there just wasn’t anything to match the FS features for the cost. BTW still shooting Sony to this day and (now FX6 and FX3 and two FS5’s) and still have my FS100 which still is a great camera and I still use it for some things. I sold the FS700 a few years ago to get an FS5. Which in a lot of ways wasn’t much of an upgrade.
@@elitefamilyparkour to be honest the terrible ergonomics make it hard for me to really enjoy it. I love the feel of the C100 but it can't match frame rates, obviously. Thoughts?
I used the FS700 for professional video work from 2018 to 2020, because my clients still only asked for 1080p resolution, and i have to say, that the loelight performance is a lot better than cameras of the same era in a competing pricebracket. Of course the A7s was greater, but the functionality on this is far better with internal XLR ports, high frame rate recording and internal ND Filters. I shot a lot of stuff inside big conventions with bad lighting and even at 9db gain i had little to no problem with grain and noise in my footage. Another bonus using this is the filesize of the in camera recording. I know the colorspace is only 8-bit, but the quality out of camera is pretty good, and a 128gb card can carry almost 4 hours of recording on them. All in all a bargain for an 800 dollar camera :)

i own both cameras in the "interview", i have to say the biggest advantage over the a7iii it has is achieved when pairing it with the odyssey q7 monitor/recorder. The slog2 raw output from camera to prores recording on the q7 just kicks the a7iii's ass when it comes to color and dynamic range. Touching on the hi speed thing, the fs700/q7 combo can record 4k prores at 120 fps in burst mode. Which is just nuts. Best "old" video camera purchase you can make imo. The atomos monitors I believe can take this capability even further to record in prores raw in monitor

Thank you for this! Wanted to ask two things about the camera - 1. Can I use APS-C lenses of E mount with this? 2. Would I get AF with the E mount glass?
The FS700 has a Super35 mm sensor which is essentially the same size as an APS-C sized sensor. Also, the AF is not terrifically fast but it is effective with native mount lenses.
The handle I bought had a cold shoe mount and I just put the mic there. I sold this camera however to help buy a GMaster lens. it was a good camera though.
Hi Mike. I actually think the image quality is pretty comparable. Of course I can shoot internal 4k with the A7iii whereas I'm getting 1080p with the FS700. @@makestuffmike I love the look of the BMPCC but yeah at some point you should decide on a system. I started on Canon and for my day job I actually have a C200 on order. But personally as a photographer and videographer I need the versatility of the hybrid system, and if I don't have to carry two sets of lenses or adaptors... it's better for me. I've had pretty good luck shooting low light with this camera. It certainly doesn't compete with the full frame alpha cameras but the native ISO of 2000 in S-LOG is fantastic as long as you aren't shooting in complete darkness. While this camera does tend to be plagued by noisy shadows I've found that can be fixed pretty easily by adding a contrast curve to your footage and bringing the shadows down just a tad. The noise cleans up pretty easily. Check out this video I shot with my FS700 for fun a few years ago (and try to ignore youtube's awful compression artifacts): ruclips.net/video/0Gr2rQeXEh8/видео.html

But in a side by side comparison I would say the FS700 holds up very well. Plus both cameras have adjustable picture profiles so getting them to match is theoretically easier.
@@CsquaredMedia Very nice! I've got a bmpcc4k and an a7iii. One of those is going to have to go so I can have only one lens mount. Unfortunately, looks like Ive got some decisions to make lol! I'm tired of having micro four thirds and ef lenses. its too much hahaha!
Tbh the Sony A1 looks like a beast, but $6500 is a little steep. If money wasn't a barrier I would get the A1, F6, a7siii and Red Komodo (cuz why not).
@@CsquaredMedia Agreed! The two system thing is driving me nuts hahaha.

Bro, this is magic lmao.
great video! the fs700 still can be very interesting i think... btw. have you tried topaz video enhance ai ? maybe that way the slowmo could be upscaled (up to 8k) and improved but you need the fastest gpu on the market :D
Did you shoot the 960 FPS with an external recorder? That should fix the issues no?
I shot internally. I think it's so bad because it crops the sensor so dramatically. And I don't have an external recorder anyway. Not yet.

Thank you so much. Check out the 2 Minute Tutorials if you prefer more straightforward content.
Fs700u is not 4k its the 700r that is 4k
I'll absolutely try that. So helpful. Thank you. Don't forget to like and subscibe my friend. More good stuff coming.
