I tried AMS2 a while back when I first got my Q3 but the VR didn't look that great to me. Just followed this guide to give it another shot and it looks insane! I managed to crank the render resolution to 1.5 in oculus and it still runs so smooth! I thought iRacing was pretty good but this might just be my new favourite VR title.
Hey glad you found it useful and thanks for the kind words 🙏 If you go into options and then into Edit Assignment’s just check that the gear assignments are mapped. 👍🏻
Hello Sim Racing Shaolin :), I have a general question. I play racing simulations on my PC with the Quest 3 and have a 4090 graphics card. I'm new to VR :) and I wanted to ask, is it better to turn the resolution up to the maximum (slider) in the Quest menu or is it better to have a slightly lower resolution in the Quest menu and increase the settings in the game like MSAA or Antitropic Filter? Which is more useful or has more positive effects? Many thanks in advance :).
I have a PSVR (From the Playstation) hooked up to my PC and I run Automobilista 2 with that. The question which I'm been trying to find and answer for is how often do you need to re-centre the VR headset? With the PSVR, I have to do it every lap. Basically, the start/finish line is the point I use to always re-centre. If I don't re-centre, I find that the VR drifts a few degrees per lap. If you didn't re-centre each lap, on a 10 lap race you'd be looking is a totally different orientation when compared to your wheel. So what holds be back from a buying a different VR like the Quest 3 is knowing how much drift there is? Every lap? Only once. Once every 10 laps?
You centre it once when you’re in the car and that’s it. One press of a button. Was the same with my valve index too. Not sure why the PSVR drifts but the Quest certainly doesn’t. Go for it 👍🏻🙏
Great guide, any chance you have compared this setup to steam link without a cable? If so is the performance much different? My link cable is damaged and I'm on the fence weather or not to buy one or just keep using steam link..
Hey, I plan on doing this but I need to get a WiFi 6e to test it fully. I still plan on testing airlink, VD and SteamLink to compare all of those over what I have already too so stay tuned 👍🏻
Also, what system are you running? I have a 3070, and I can’t get it to look this good (I’ve turned some things down like the filtering to 4X). I did try it on the new le man track. Maybe it’s worth doing it on an older track to see
Great Vid, I had worked this all out my self. It took many hours over many days and many youtube tips that were wrong. But you summed it all up in under 9 mins and came to pretty much every conclusion I did. The one thing that threw me with ams 2 was super sampling. In AC I run it a 1.5. But for best results it a 1.0. Thanks for this vid, I've subscribed. Gonna check you're AC in VR next
@@thesimracingshaolinstudent On oculus app I set to 1.5, this is the best improvement on res. in AMS2 MSAA to med. but all the things you have on ultra I set to high. Still looks really great. Maybe you could do a VR guide on Dirt Rally 2 if thats something you play.
Thx for the walk through. I followed it. However, I needed to install SteamVR myself before I could get into the game, which I launched as you recommended with oculus vr. Otherwise, I'd just see the desktop. Once that was installed, the rest was fine. Keep up the fine work
I'm also confused why he did that. Higher AF value means better textures at longer distance. Not sure why he had to set it to 16x in control panel, yet lower it in game settings.
I am using the Meta Quest 3 with a link cable for simracing games on Steam (AMD GPU). Right now, I do not want to use the OpenXRtool kit and OpenComposite. In most games, I have the option to start in Steam VR or oculus mode. I am uncertain which one is better performance wise. Even when I get the message in oculus mode your HMD is not supported. Is this still better? If so, should the game be started within the Meta environment or in Steam itself? Does anyone have a recommendation and maybe an explanation why? Thank you very much in advance.
I don’t I’m afraid but a quick google shows there’s an app that you can install for the GPU. I’m sure someone will be able to help me in here. Sorry. Thank you for the kind comment though 🙏
@@thesimracingshaolinstudent I just got wifi6 and can say it's a huge improvement. It's very comparable to tethered. Although I've only tried this on slower paced VR titles not sim racing.

Okay i take my initial comment back, i ended up buying ams2 again because the AI in AC are crap. AC is great for doing practice laps or cruising around on different modded tracks but AMS2 actually feels better to race offline. Ill be trying your settings this week. Hopefully i can get my moza r5 setup without much trouble!
Is it fair to say not a big enough improvement over G2 to justify cost if you don't need wireless VR I force ams2 at 45hz. I have to turn too much down to get consistent 90fps even with a 3080 Do U think running at lower fps impacts clarity Lastly does the quest 3 improve clarity in the far distance ie 2 to 3 hundred metres out
I have the G2 but yesterday connected my Q3 to my pc. Performance is much better with the Q3 in all games I tested. Not sure why, maybe WMR it just more demanding, but the difference is huge for me. With the G2 I had to lower resolution to 80% and drop all the gfx to a bare minimum to get 90fps, with the G3 I can run it at native resolution while mostly maxing out the gfx.
Tried AMS2 VR but so far AC with matric shadows off is the only VR sim racing experience I can find that doesnt have shadow flicker. Really cant stand flicker and shimmering.
Oh really. That’s interesting. I find AMS2 to be better at dealing with those issues than AC but find AC can look more realistic than AMS2. I need to test more reshade shaders with AMS2. 🙏
@@thesimracingshaolinstudent yea I heard that from everyone so i tried it yesterday, unfortunately it didn't work as good as i though it would. comparatively speaking, AC def looks better with CSP and PURE mods. I tried VR, too, in AC, ACC and AMS2, with AC I get the absolut sharpest image with native 3200 pixel per eye resolution that minimizes the flickering and shimmering very good. For constant 90 fps I deactivated PP-Filter (Pure and the others are very similar) and this was a very high fps boost from 55 up to contant 90 fps without any framedrops. and it looks good, too for me. And 3d trees looked very ugly in VR with high shimmering, I deactivated this, too. I dont like that for AC there are very few tracks that look good, only nuerburgring and some others, but most tracks, especially modded, created tracks look very very old and simple, not realistic. In ACC and AMS2 I only use about 70-80% resolution on my rtx 3090 to get fluid 90 fps, using OpenXr. there i have more shimmering, dont like that, too.
So you need a full rig with pedals and a wheel? Thats kinda the bottle neck for me and these racing vr games. I can justify getting a cheap wheel but not that, pedals and a shifter.
