Glad to see you having fun in the sim! I agree, whatever they've done has brought the whole thing alive Id love to see you try out the 1974 F1 cars at some point. If you like that 'edge of grip' thing, they're exactly what you're looking for :)
Surely AMS2 has some challenges doing those 'slip of grid' things autentically, just compared with their own AMS1 ISIMotor2 sim engine, but F1 1974 and Classic Porsche 911 RSR '74 seems to be working trustworthy here with excellent outcome!
I was literally at the 1975 US Grand Prix at Watkins Glen (older guy). I found the 1975 F1 car set on Race Dept. Sitting on that grid in the sim along side those many names that would become F1 legends got me a little choked up. And the cars now drive outstanding. Thank you Rieza, and thank you ianez for the wonderful liveries and AI!
it could entirely be the case that what is being referenced in their dev blog is something that happened much later and after Jim ever tried it last time. If you look at the latest dev blog today, a shitload of changes were there
With what happened between you and Reiza a couple years ago, I'm honestly impressed you gave it a second chance. No matter who was in the right back then, this was a very commendable step on your part that many people wouldn't have had the character to make after having such a "falling out". I also think it's justified. Being a regular forum user, there has always been a tendency of "one step forward, half a step back" with the physics of this game, resulting in some good and some horrible cars (like the Caterhams). Being a beta member now, I can honestly say that every car that receives these updates is either subtly or massively better off for it. Not to say it's perfect, because nothing will ever be, but it's much, much closer.
So it wasn't just me then (the Caterhams), they felt good in every game I played *except* AMS2, and was wondering why so many were raving about it in this game. I tried to tune them up and they drove like absolute dogshit no matter what. It made no sense because I watched numerous IRL track videos and the physics in the game did NOT match up or even get anywhere close to what they're like IRL. I haven't played the game in some months now but if the physics update is really this good I might have to hop on again.
@@gabrielmalta1962Jimmy mentioned it briefly, but as far as i know he got quite much hate by someone actually working on ams2, which was just really childish and not something a company should do. As far as i know it was because he said he didnt like the feel of the game as much, but even said that it was just his own opinion and preference.
Since you are famous for your Nordschleife content it would be cool if you'd showcase the historic Nordschleife (and Südschleife maybe) at some point :]
The biggest step up for me is the formula ultimate gen 2. Before the update it just felt aweful to drive, but after the update it's one of my favourite current gen F1 experiences
@@EZCCW Yes it is. That was also my issue, but that got fixed some time ago (you may need to delete car settings if you feel that is still happening). It has now transformed into my goto sim. It used to be a sim that I wanted to drive until I started a race then remembered how bad it could bite for no reason. All that is a thing of the past. You can recover almost all oversteer situations (other than self imposed). Bear in mind the 1.5 patch isn't even out yet (very soon) but the tyre model has been applied to some cars as mentioned.
@@Karlywoo_Plays Yup they are pretty easy to control now. Especially in launch. I tried to launch an F1 ultimate gen 2 nearly flat out and there wasn't that much wheel spin and the car remained straight. It pretty much behaved as I would expect to based on what I've seen irl
And THIS video, the closing statement in particular, proves, why YOU, fine Sir, are loved by you community so much. Fair, open minded, honest. Thank you Jimmer
The reason I come back to AMS 2 is because its super easy to set up a private online server, invite your friends, fill the lobby with AI, and go race with a bunch of options. There is a lot of fun to be had there. I am really excited to see the rest of the update as more and more cars get the physics patch since racing the GT3s, the mini JCWs, and some of the lower class cars still feels super disconnected. Ive really enjoyed my time with this game so far, always happy to see games move in a positive direction.
Thats why we still play PC2 sometimes. Setting up a game with friends is just nice. All the serious sims lack at that. To bad that there wont be a PC4...
Awesome to see you try the game again! For me 1.5 is so substantial it's hard to drive any other content that doesn't have it, cannot wait for the full patch next week. The amount of tracks and racing series this game has out of the box, combined with the dynamic weather system and their AI improvements is some of the best sim racing experiences I've ever had. It really helps that the online community can be really chill to play with since it's so small and dedicated, and setting up a server and inviting your friends is a breeze (compared to RF2/AC/ACC anyways lol). I strongly recommend you give the historic Norsdchleife a go! Easily the best version of that historical track ever made in a sim, so detailed and the Sudschleife is absolutely incredible. Spa historical is up there too, I just did that last night with a couple friends in Group C cars and the experience was so intense and scary fast. Lots of content to be enjoyed in this sim even with this amount of cars with the new physics, but next week when they all get it it should be so fun, can't wait to discover what new cars are gonna be my favorite :D
AMS2 has been my racing sim of choice for the single player racing, especially with the racinglife mod. I have always thought there was just some weird things going on especially in the lower speed corners where grip just didn't feel right but I just chalked it up to me being bad. All the things you described in the video as issues are exactly what I was experiencing so I am very excited to get my rig setup again and get more time behind the wheel in AMS2.
I know nothing about sim racing, don't even have a wheel with pedals. Playing with a PS4 controller but I love AMS2. Driving feels to me more organic than ACC. GT3 cars are the most fun to drive in AMS2.
The thing that had always been a winner for me with AMS2 is the awesome selection of tracks (loads of South American ones I’ve never raced before) and the huge selection of cars. If the new updates are as good as they sound, this game could really take off. Fingers crossed!
Explaining the gear shifting issue, you can damage gears with repeated bad shifts. It shouldn't be that easy to mess up upshifts with that car as I believe it should have auto-cut (maybe a bug that slipped through), but it absolutely will happen with some of the F-Classics that had sequentials and no auto-cut if you don't rev match.
Renato and his Reiza team are doing a monster effort against any madness, i.e. the Madness Engine. Since I acquired AMS2 just pre Cov19 I think maybe 35-40% of my total sim time has been dedicated to AMS2. For a jack of all trades sims new, old and ancient and mostly into huge databases of mods it tells me that they've been on the right track especially since the intro of the FFB+ controller option.
Once you find the good cars, AMS2 is awesome. For the past few days I've been driving the 1994 F1 car around the 1980's Jerez and Estoril, what a blast.
Thanks, Jimmy, for taking a fresh look at AMS2 and delivering another fair assessment of the sim. In the three years since its initial release, AMS2 certainly has generated more than its fair share of frustration--for simracers, developers, and content creators alike. Fortunately, Reiza appear to have identified the remaining hive of physics gremlins and are in the process of rooting them out. The upcoming V1.5 physics and tire model updates have the potential to elevate the driving experience in AMS2 out of the "Simulator-ish" tier and into the upper echelon of racing sims. Undoubtedly, other areas remain that can benefit from further development, but class-leading VR, a wide range of content, and (finally) a realistic, predictable, and entertaining driving experience is more than enough to merit a second chance.
Just in case owners of AMS2 are on the RC stream on Steam are confused, the BETA stream is entirely separate and requires permission from Reiza to access. Those of us lucky enough to try it out are not permitted to post images or video of what we see. The reason is some of the content is WIP whilst other parts are close to release, and the builds add and remove parts constantly to allow testing to be focused on specific areas of development. The upcoming DLC is awesome but not polished, yet. I have never had as much laugh-out-loud fun as when driving on the beta multiplayer servers. It is very freeing when SR is not on the line.
Glad you're giving AMS2 another chance and getting to like it. I've said it before, I'm going to say it again - you should give the Brazilian Stock Cars a go, they look absolutely mental.
The guys who built this gave you crap!! that really isn't cool.. but they have fixed it. They are lucky you revisited this. given how they behaved, I've had people review my products and say bad things, we went back to the drawing board and improved. Feedback is all we have sometimes! it's always a blessing unless you have ego issues.
I'm much more of a casual driver, but when I started trying out AMS2, I immediately went back to Assetto Corsa, as it felt much better. However with every major update I checked back into AMS2 and it's now at the point for me, where I consider it to be as good as AC. And since they're not stopping with development anytime soon, it will probably be my favorite race sim farely soon.
Having never heard about the AMS2 devs and community coming after you, my first thought upon hearing about it was "Well, it's not like he wants to not like it." and I glad you echoed my thoughts during the video. Sometimes you just don't enjoy an experience, and that's fine, and it's fine when others disagree. No one jumps into a game (or anything for that matter) wanting to not like it, and people get so worked up over differing opinions. You enjoy it, cool. If you don't enjoy it, also cool. Well done though for actually coming back after the bad experience, despite everything you've given it another go and enjoyed it. As you said, hopefully the AMS2 community can be a bit kinder about it all in the future.
@@jstro-hobbytech It's their lovechild, and they are a small studio. I don't approve this kind of attacks, but I can kind of understand why they would throw a tantrum. It's like someone telling your child is ugly. AMS2 already didn't have great player numbers on Steam, it's a niche thing, and JImmy has lot of influence as the largest simracing RUclipsr. But honestly, I never liked how it feels compared to AMS1. VR performance, graphics, car/track selection, all great, but I didn't feel as connected to the car as with AMS1. Then again AMS1 beats every other sim for me, in terms of feel. Haven't tried AMS2 in ages though, now it's probably better
I'm really excited for the new tire model to get distributed to all cars. I understand if you're still soured on the game due to the developer feedback, but I'd love to see more AMS2 content from you, since there's so much wierd and historically significant content in the game. Wierd and historically significant Assetto Corsa content have been my favorite Jimmy videos for years.
I love AMS2, it is my sim of choice and the current cars with the updated physics feel great. I cannot wait for 1.5. I didn't know that Reiza left bad comments in the past, that is pretty shit but I'm glad you gave it another shot and I hope you do more coverage of it in the future.
Not sure what happened with the devs but I found reiza to be one of the best, most open and keen to listen to fans teams out there…the updates they give fans and the quality / price of DLC has been class leading. As with ANY sim some cars feel great and others not so much. This is not unique to AMS2 - it’s still not rf2 levels of FFB but it’s damn good fun, and sometimes that’s all that matters!!
I have been playing AMS2 nearly every Saturday for the last year and a half. I have always felt the cars were on the brink of uncontrollable. Eventually you get use to it and drive them within the limits of the game. However, with this new update, the cars behave more predictably. Spinning around is less likely and when you do start to spin there is a chance to save it. Previously, if you spun it was pretty much game over.
If you drive in VR, the Madness graphics engine is too good to be ignored. I doubt Reiza had any idea how much would be involved in turning around the PC2 handling and FFB, but kudos to them for putting in massive work to tear it all down and rebuild it into something much improved. I've been on the beta branch and they are working through the car classes updating to the 1.5 model and tuning the AI. They've really pushed the engine quite far from the point where the PC2 developers gave up and walked away.
I see people with even 4090's struggling to get max fps with higher-end hmd's. For me AC fully modded and Iracing run much, much smoother in VR, despite optimizing the hell out of AMS2. AMS2 also looks very blurry in distance for me and I just can't figure out what is causing this, only can find posts from others experiencing the same.
Hi Jimmy. Another great video by you. Really fun race to watch. I played Automobilista 2 since it came out. And I must say it changed a lot over time. There were some cars that felt way too snappy that over time gradually got better to drive with the updates. As I understand the next update will apply the changes to all cars ingame. I´m also excited for the content they teased like 3 versions of Le Mans (70s,90s and modern) as well as prototypes and touring cars etc from the 70s up to modern days with LmdH and new gt3 cars. If they keep finetuning the game it will be very cool I think. Thank you for your videos Jimmy. They´re always good to watch. Wish you all the best!
Happy to see you're enjoying it! I've been beta testing and I can confidently say that the new physics are a huge improvement over the whole sim. I hope more people pick it up once 1.5 hits.
@@Thisonegoestoeleven666 Based on what I've seen in the beta process, they do seem to have learned a bit about what people want out of the sim, and have been taking a lot of feedback as of late to make it happen. Hoping they keep a good attitude and continue to improve.
For me, I couldn't stand the physics of AMS2 either for a long time. I think it was late 2021 where they finally released a big FFB and tire model overhaul that finally made the driving mostly enjoyable. Still wasn't perfect as that simultaneous oversteer/understeer/floaty feeling never fully went away, but at least with the new FFB and tire model, you could tune most of it out. That update finally got me comfortable with the driving, but it was the AI that honestly kept me playing it. Every other sim, the AI just drive around single file and are very predictable to race against. The AI in AMS2 still struggle and can be predictable through certain corners, but they're so much more aggressive when battling other cars that it just creates for some really fun and brilliant racing. Coming from AC where the AI just give you the corner even though they still have two car lengths on you, AMS2's AI will pin you on the outside of the track, try to out break you, and actually try to come back on you before you get away. When you get near them, they'll push themselves further and sometimes make mistakes because so like missing the apex or hitting track limits. So I'm really excited for the Le Mans update coming later this year. Only thing I feel AMS2 is missing are modern prototypes and GTs. Also Reiza's historic tracks have just been absolutely amazing. You have to give a 70s F1 car ago on the 1971 Nordschliefe.
To clarify these cars are updated to the new "1.5 physics standards" but the game is not version 1.5 yet (that should come later this month, or early August). But yes huge steps in the right direction month after month from Reiza.
FINALLY! Installing it again then, i love AMS2's immersion but the physics were just not there. Definitely giving it a go, thank you for this vid, i would have never known otherwise.
Glad to see your enjoying this sim. Its reiza studios what i really believe in, they haven't given in with the madness engine. They just want ams 2 to be the best they can make it.
It really seems like they are in it for the long haul. They really haven't found any limitations to the engine itself. Just bugs to cure. A lot of people speculated that Reiza would be looking to make an AMS3 by 2025, but I don't think that's the case. I can see AMS2 being their sole content platform for the remainder of this decade (maybe a few years less, but it would be great to see a console port in that time!)
@flyingphoenix113 yeah and that is why reiza deserve more credit for sticking around with the sim. It really goes to show that if a studio keeps working on their titles whats possible. A console port would be great to get more people into simulation.
AMS1 and 2 have always been my personal go-to sims, other than NR2003. I know it's not the most "realistic", but it has fun AI to race and believable enough physics, graphics are well optimized, and it's the best sim for "jump in and have fun", which is something alot of sim racing games struggle at, the pick up and play experience.
Yes I bought AMS2 years ago and haven't really used it much because of the "floaty" feeling. But the big update has certainly made a big improvement in the driving experience.
Some friends and I started what will hopefully become an annual series where we race pretty much every month, and 99% of our races/planned races are in AMS2. And yes, we've run into some problems here and there, especially in multiplayer, but overall it's been a fun series so far. I've personally been mainly playing AMS2 over other games since I bought it around the middle of last year because the physics, especially after I got used to them, felt nicer for me personally to deal with. Sure, some cars are insanely difficult to drive and I won't really bother touching them much, but over time I've definitely found myself liking more and more of the cars either from updates or me simply being more used to how they run. And our little series isn't exactly a group of veteran sim racers, I'm one of the most experienced and before this, I spent more time on Project CARS than anything else. One of the others comes from iRacing, meanwhile, the remaining two are totally new to sim racing. Heck, one of those two is using a controller lmao I know a lot of people have their problems with this game, and we'd certainly like for some of the glitches we've run into to be fixed (some already have thankfully), but overall for us it's a fun experience and kinda fits our playstyle now. Next session incidentally is actually at Long Beach, we're taking the Copa Montanas for 158 laps and those things are surprisingly fun to drive for all of us!
One thing that drives me crazy about AMS2 is how the tires will break loose while upshifting under full throttle on a lot of the sequential manual cars.
This has always been my favorite PC Sim. I "play" PC, PC2, AC, ACC, Grid Series, GT Legends, RRRE, RF2 and ASM2. They are all differnet and each have their strengths and weaknesses but AMS2 has the best balance of features and in VR it beats the rest hands down
I'll have to try it again when they update the GT and DPI classes. I actually love their system for setting up mixed racing, its the best out there. Their AI is also really good. The one thing for me that i just couldnt get passed is the brake feeling. Its like there was no sensation at all if the tires were locking up or if they had traction, so i could never brake consistently in that game.
Very cool to see you revisit this sim as it's my current favorite and it's nice to see positive attention. Would love to see your thoughts on it after 1.5
Jimmer your opinion means the world to most of us if you say dont do it we ain't an if you say it's worth your time we take it as gospel mate legend keep it up
Good for you for sticking to your guns and calling a sick cow for what it is. If the developers had 2 tire models conflicting with one another then it's on them to fix the issue and not criticize their customers for calling them out on it. Grip is key in any sim as we are driving cars on pavement, not ships on water. I'm glad to hear that this new release has addressed those tire issues and hopefully soon every car in the sim will be retrofitted with the fix. Great driving in one of the most demanding, challenging and scary tracks ever in Cart. Back in the day this was of the dullest events to watch from the sofa. Clearly being in the cockpit gives you a sense of how incredibly tough this race was.
VR in AMS2 is amazing, especially with the helmet cam but I also didn't play it a lot. just tried it out because I heard good things and went back to iRacing.
Great to appear here in the video. Even if it is an unfortunate scene. But the game is still top class and shows what the engine is actually capable of.
blew my mind the first time i tried the new physics, been waiting for Jim to have a go, you might not think so but your seal of approval holds a crap tonne of weight mate
Please more ams2, old Nordschleife with a Porsche would be dope. The ffb and feel of the cars seems to be exactly what I am looking for and one of the main reasons to finally buy a pc.
If you want a real challenge on this sim, play with a Chevrolet Opala (I personally like the 86' era car) with some cars of the same time period... The car is very fun to drive, goes a bit like a Porsche 911 or an old Mustang.... I love it!
One of the issues AMS2 had (or have related to not updated cars), was that the default/default+ FFB felt really strange, which I think contributed cars feeling strange for many. I was pretty happy with few of the custom FFB options, but naturally those custom FFB files doesn't come with the game and you would need to go that extra effort to find and install one. Fortunately this isn't the case anymore with the cars with updated tire model and I hope it still holds true with rest of the cars when full 1.5 is released. Not sure what has happened with the devs in the past, but for the past year I have followed the AMS2 forums, I haven't noticed any stupid or offensive behavior from the developers. As for fanboys, nah, I don't think it's any more toxic than with any other sim out there. It's quite natural reaction to get defensive when somebody starts claim something you like a lot as crap, even though it might be true. I have had a lot of fun AMS2 in the past year, it's improving all the time and there is a lot of great content. I honestly think these latest improvements to the handling make a huge difference to previous. Even from the updated cars, some feel better than others (Formula Junior feels really good and fun to try). Even though I'm currently focusing on rFactor 2, I don't have problems going back to AMS2 (for updated cars).
Game is still full of bugs, some of the worst are Multiplayer Green lights not showing at the same time for everyone, dry line after rain also appearing at different times for different players, cutting corners and saving 5 seconds and all you get is warning lol, cars driving straight with wheels turned to full lock, or cars hovering over the tracks... This game is absolute rubbish, graphics are really nice, but thats about it.
You're definitely in for a big surprise when the actual v1.5 drops. Every car has changed in the beta, even the ones there were already with the new tires.
Hey Jimmer. Your experience has been mine all the same basically. AMS2 always felt like it had a lot of potential which was not realized due to weird hit or miss car behaviour which I couldn't get my head around. I dropped the title and have now returned some weeks ago after reading about the upgrade. And boy does it feel good. Racing in VR this was a feast thundering across the Nordschleife in various cars as well as different weather and date time settings. So happy this title is coming along now :)
Sounds promising. Could you tell me what wheelbase do you use + what ffb settings? Default, default + or custom? I'll once again give a try today. Thanks mate!
@@Michelsen3K Well I am running a Thrustmaster TMX Pro (so no DD comparision like Jimmer with his Moza there) at the moment and have the FFB settings on Default which works nicely on GT3 and GT1 cars, as well as the Opala classic Stock Cars. The Fusca is still a nightmare to drive though.
IMO the best thing about AMS2 is the VR implementation... I don't know why, but it always runs waaay better and is way more clear than any of the other sims I run.
This is my favorite Sim title, I puts steam on, To have a blip at Raceroom or rFactor I am finding myself gravitating towards AMS 2, Every time, I just put an i5 12600k on a new motherboard, So I want to see what the other Sim titles are like using the i5 12600k, And damn yeah the i5 is dealing with everything I put at it, And it is only paired with a 3060 GPU, I will say I am taken back on how good an i5 12600k is, With a 3060 GPU, It is not even a high spec PC but, It's beautiful, Being able to build a PC and then see AMS 2 running so well, No stutters or freeze frames, Just stunning looking graphics and amazing gameplay, I used to use an i7 6700k see, I can tell you now if anyone is on the fence about the i5 12th gen don't bother, Get it as it is an amazing CPU for the price it is, At the moment you could build a PC for the same price range of the PS5 but the PC would stomp on the PS5 as far as I am concerned, I am not saying consoles don't have there place, But damn Sim racing is a world apart on a PC, I am saying that and I never even been on a PS5, Just the PS4 pro, Got put the pro in lol, On paper though the PC specs at the same price if you was to build the PC yourself though I do understand not everyone has time or knowledge to build a PC, And I do believe the better the Sim experience the better a Sim racer you will or can become, lol..... So yeah AMS 2 for me at the moment is the King of Sim racing titles, I have even noticed since the update of V.5 the multiplayer is starting to get busy, About 25 people was racing on the Nürburgring the other night, Great lobby as well, Nobody ramming into anyone, People would move if you was in faster car, Great manners, So yeah for me at the moment it is all about AMS 2.... Hey jimmy you needs cover the legs next time, lol, Had put my hand out block the rays coming from them, And no it is not because you is bright, lol, Though those little legs got fast reactions, lol, Great video again, Amen to you Jimmy.... I Sim race to try help with my mental health problems, And it is thanks to people like yourself oh, And Race Beyond Matter, Another great Sim Racing channel, So big up yeah.................
This opinion matters to me because I tried AMS2 a while ago and tried and tried and could never get a feel for it. It always felt like I had to keep a buffer between me and the edge of performance. It really did feel arbitrary like you said. To find out that there's a fundamental problem with the tyre model helps me understand I wasn't just bad at the game and I wasn't imagining things. I just didn't have the insight to explain what was wrong.
AMS2 was the second sim i went to after AC (ignoring a brief ACC). I loved the variety of tracks and cars, and the ffb. But other things like tyre pressure made seemingly zero difference and sometimes it would feel unpredictable or like the tyres had oil on them so you had to be overly careful and "false" in some inputs. Been off the rig for a year but am back in this summer, and I see the updates about the physics etc... and RallyCross!!! Can't wait for that. I just wish the cars would indicate what tyre model version, given the rollout is gradual. i.e. how are we going to know if any given car has been updated or not without trawling the release notes. UX for non-tecchies is important 😊
In this video, Jimmy managed to establish 2 things:
- AMS2's biggest enemy is the tire model(s)
- Jimmy's biggest enemy is 5th gear

@@danielo7985 are you one of those people Jimmy mentioned at this beginning? The ones that were defending AMS2 as if their lives depended on it?
Glad to see you having fun in the sim! I agree, whatever they've done has brought the whole thing alive
Id love to see you try out the 1974 F1 cars at some point.
To see a legend watching another legend’s videos, makes me happy. You’re a treasure, Jake.
Jimmy : The cars feel weird something seems off with the physics model
AMS2 : Fuck off
AMS2 : Hey so a funny thing happened
"The rubber-friction coefficient mixed with the composition differences between concrete and asphalt led us to believe..."
it could entirely be the case that what is being referenced in their dev blog is something that happened much later and after Jim ever tried it last time. If you look at the latest dev blog today, a shitload of changes were there
Jimmer, if you keep saying nice things about AMS2 maybe Rieza will give us a Praga.
May I ask, what was the issue with Reiza? Honest question, I am out the loop
@@nearlyalmostdead I see. Kind of dick move from them. I'm proud of AMS2 as it is an indie project from my country, but thats no way to behave
@@Housesider Only do it after 1.5, it's currently still horrible in the public release build.
Since you are famous for your Nordschleife content it would be cool if you'd showcase the historic Nordschleife (and Südschleife maybe) at some point :]
Südschleife on the formula junior is a great experience.
He actually has a video from a few years ago of a 1960s version of the Nordschleife with a Porsche 908 in AC. It's a great video!

@@Volkain10not on ams2
The biggest step up for me is the formula ultimate gen 2. Before the update it just felt aweful to drive, but after the update it's one of my favourite current gen F1 experiences
Is it actually drivable without spinning out at the exit of every turn? That was my biggest difficulty with that car last time I drove it lol
Bear in mind the 1.5 patch isn't even out yet (very soon) but the tyre model has been applied to some cars as mentioned.
do the cars that have have the new tyre models not spin as soon as 1% too much throttle is applied?
Wait for the 1.5 update since the release of the current version it has been improved even more...
Also for ams2 a good starting point for beginners, is to download car setups, from the ghost of the fastest lap time for your car on a certain track.
To be pedantic, there is no 1994 f1 cars, f-classic gen4 is 1991 and f-v12 is 1995
@@Rmagid the definitely not a Williams gen 4 has a lot of 1994 bodywork iirc
Thanks, Jimmy, for taking a fresh look at AMS2 and delivering another fair assessment of the sim. In the three years since its initial release, AMS2 certainly has generated more than its fair share of frustration--for simracers, developers, and content creators alike. Fortunately, Reiza appear to have identified the remaining hive of physics gremlins and are in the process of rooting them out. The upcoming V1.5 physics and tire model updates have the potential to elevate the driving experience in AMS2 out of the "Simulator-ish" tier and into the upper echelon of racing sims. Undoubtedly, other areas remain that can benefit from further development, but class-leading VR, a wide range of content, and (finally) a realistic, predictable, and entertaining driving experience is more than enough to merit a second chance.
i'm in the beta and can confirm the new tyres are a game changer on pretty much all cars
I love ams2 for race night with the bros, easy server setup, great vr.. and now handling better! Thx for checking it out again
This combination looks like so much fun, those old CARTs / Indycars and their race tracks are so rare to find on console sadly
The guys who built this gave you crap!! that really isn't cool.. but they have fixed it. They are lucky you revisited this. given how they behaved, I've had people review my products and say bad things, we went back to the drawing board and improved. Feedback is all we have sometimes! it's always a blessing unless you have ego issues.
most sim devs are like this, very proud of their work, but also very proud of their work.
Hopefully AMS2 and the devs' attitude keep improving. I love AMS2 despite it's issues since it's the only sim I've found that works really well in VR.
I am loving smug Jimmy at the start of this vid. You let em know, king
It’s good the madness engine is still used somewhere, absolutely huge potential with it still.
Jimmy once again proves he’s a better person then us, if I had the platform and devs talked to me like that I would be making a whole video about it
I agree. Imagine being trolled by devs. That alone has blacklisted this game or any game they ever make.
@@jstro-hobbytechmeh...dont think do.
It might do if you only race sims based on what other ppl think instead of trying it for yourself...
The brazilian stock cars are incredibly fun to drive in this sim, deffo worth checking out.
Excited to give this update a try with Indy oval course. Seems like the best sim out there as far as realism for that track that isn't iRacing.
Some youtubers are extremely sensitive that is what happened.
@@andreic5822 no it's proof that Reiza are immature and eating the dust of rFactor 2, iRacing
I would argue the PC2 devs gave up for a reason 😂
I see people with even 4090's struggling to get max fps with higher-end hmd's. For me AC fully modded and Iracing run much, much smoother in VR, despite optimizing the hell out of AMS2. AMS2 also looks very blurry in distance for me and I just can't figure out what is causing this, only can find posts from others experiencing the same.
I hope you do a newer video after they release the full 1.5 version for all cars.
Wish you all the best!
you HAVE to do some videos on historic nords
Happy to see you're enjoying it! I've been beta testing and I can confidently say that the new physics are a huge improvement over the whole sim. I hope more people pick it up once 1.5 hits.
I hope the devs eat humble pie and learn that accurate feedback is a blessing and those giving it should be respected, not abused.
@@Thisonegoestoeleven666 Based on what I've seen in the beta process, they do seem to have learned a bit about what people want out of the sim, and have been taking a lot of feedback as of late to make it happen. Hoping they keep a good attitude and continue to improve.
Now you've got to try the old Nordschliefe.
Cool to see you give a sim another try.
To clarify these cars are updated to the new "1.5 physics standards" but the game is not version 1.5 yet (that should come later this month, or early August). But yes huge steps in the right direction month after month from Reiza.
Actually dev mention that it come in teh next 2 Weeks 🥳
Jimmy is a physics-engine-testing genius
Heck, one of those two is using a controller lmao
I know a lot of people have their problems with this game, and we'd certainly like for some of the glitches we've run into to be fixed (some already have thankfully), but overall for us it's a fun experience and kinda fits our playstyle now. Next session incidentally is actually at Long Beach, we're taking the Copa Montanas for 158 laps and those things are surprisingly fun to drive for all of us!
Great to see you having fun with Automobilista 2 again. I'd love to see more of this sim!
Can I just say- the FPOV and the replay "tv camera" is such a great idea. Keep doing this!
Jimmer has a run-in with the nicest Brazilians on the internet.
One thing that drives me crazy about AMS2 is how the tires will break loose while upshifting under full throttle on a lot of the sequential manual cars.
AMS2 deserves some love. You are a real professional, i expected nothing less from you. Please give us more of this
I love project cars 2 ...knowing its the same engine basically just with better handling id love to try this one...have tried the first one
Great to see that the game is improved since release. You should definitely try the 1970 nordshleife.
It feels really good now, the transformation is enormous!
Love the loafer 13s in the pedal cam
Very cool to see you revisit this sim as it's my current favorite and it's nice to see positive attention. Would love to see your thoughts on it after 1.5
Jimmer your opinion means the world to most of us if you say dont do it we ain't an if you say it's worth your time we take it as gospel mate legend keep it up
For a guy who occasionally gives opinions (and quite a few in this video) to say "my opinion means nothing" is something I highly appreciate.
Clearly being in the cockpit gives you a sense of how incredibly tough this race was.
youre a better man than i. i would hold a grudge and be way more smug about being right all this time.
Long Beach. Nice. I swear I never see this track in games. I think the last game I played with it was one of the Forza Motorsport games.
it's in almost everything, iRacing has it on schedules all the time.
RFactor 2 has the best version, recently released
This man is so brave driving in real life for a video
For sure we’ve been waiting for them to figure it all out. Glad you gave that a go again. 😊
VR in AMS2 is amazing, especially with the helmet cam but I also didn't play it a lot. just tried it out because I heard good things and went back to iRacing.
I bought it 3 days ago and playing a custom 2023 Brazil stock car, and it's so addictive
Great to appear here in the video. Even if it is an unfortunate scene. But the game is still top class and shows what the engine is actually capable of.

blew my mind the first time i tried the new physics, been waiting for Jim to have a go, you might not think so but your seal of approval holds a crap tonne of weight mate
really glad to see Jimmy back at it and playing one of my fav if truly floored sims!
Can't wait for the 'How fast can a Crosskart lap the Nordschleife' video
There is a Video from a big German Streamer that do the exactly thing. Pure gold to watch.
You should definitely give it a go on the Brazilian Stock Car
Finally he does it again
LETS GOOOO I’ve been waiting for this for so long AMS2 is my favorite
Game is still full of bugs, some of the worst are Multiplayer Green lights not showing at the same time for everyone, dry line after rain also appearing at different times for different players, cutting corners and saving 5 seconds and all you get is warning lol, cars driving straight with wheels turned to full lock, or cars hovering over the tracks... This game is absolute rubbish, graphics are really nice, but thats about it.
You're definitely in for a big surprise when the actual v1.5 drops. Every car has changed in the beta, even the ones there were already with the new tires.
Interesting what you said about AMS2 ai, I've found the AMS2 ai to be some of the best in any sim I've played
Thank you for giving this game another try, it legitimately looks fun, I may have to snag this game on sale :)
I could believe the difference when I fired it up several weeks ago. Been hooked on the old f1 car, so fun to drive.
Quick correction the F-vintages have not got the new tyre model yet
Btw any chance of seeing’s you play around with the fantastic classic Nurburgring?
This opinion matters to me because I tried AMS2 a while ago and tried and tried and could never get a feel for it. It always felt like I had to keep a buffer between me and the edge of performance. It really did feel arbitrary like you said. To find out that there's a fundamental problem with the tyre model helps me understand I wasn't just bad at the game and I wasn't imagining things. I just didn't have the insight to explain what was wrong.
Great seeing you play AMS2 so hope Reize fixes tire models on all their cars. VR + AMS2 is awesome.
Awesome video Jimmer, looking healthy my guy!
UX for non-tecchies is important 😊
with the next patch (1.5) every car will be updated
I'd highly recommend playing ams2 in vr, it looks really good
Damn this has came on leaps and bounds since the last video 😮
Love your work Jimmy, Youre the GOAT. All the best to you man
Hey jimmer! Love the vids!
