  • Automobilista 2 (Quest 3) vs. GT7 (PSVR2) - Is there a Clear Winner? My Results Shocked Me - We are playing Automobilista 2 on the Quest 3 and comparing it to Gran Turismo 7 on PSVR2. AMS2 is available on PC only while GT7 is available on PS5 only. AMS2 is one of the best looking VR sim racing games out there so I wanted to see how GT7 on PSVR2 could stack up against it on the Quest 3. Two different headsets, both with their own strong points but will there be a clear winner here?

    The weird situation: Dynamic Foveated Rendering would be best with pancakelenses. On PSVR2 you cannot look to the edges and see much difference when static foveation is enabled - because the sweetspot is so small and outside areas are veryblurry.
    So Quest 3 has the lenses, but PSVR2 the eyetracking.............
    Also weird: Since Fresnell lenses on PSVR2 blur a lot the more you get closer to the edges, you could simply use static foveation to save up performance and many people wont even notice it - but no: Many developers simply use nothing of that at all and therefore often deliver resolution ingame, that is just average or even below.

    • @taptoplayde
      @taptoplayde 9 месяцев назад +1

      PSVR2 has everything else, Q3 has the lenses. But since you look through the lenses every time you use the device that's the most important part of the headset and Sony really does not deliver. I hope that Q3 delivers, because I'm replacing my PSVR2 with it because auf the tiny sweet spot and mura effect.

    I just got my quest 3, man its been a pain getting it set up to where its usable. im new to PC VR and I apparantly I took for granted how plug and play the PSVR2 was.
    question for you cas. is it normal that the quest 3 loses charge even when plugged into the USB port? I was hoping it would keep charge as that's something I never had to worry about with the playstationVR
    so you run oculusVR instead of steamVR? since the settings you changed (700mbps). only affect oculusVR right? im using the virtual desktop streamer and that only allows up to 400mbps and I don't know how to push it higher with steamVR. its all very confusing haha.

    • @thecasualracinggamer
      @thecasualracinggamer  9 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, the charge will slowly deplete when being used with a link cable. The debug tool bitrate setting, I don't believe it has an effect in virtual desktop. If you use AirLink, you must set that number back to zero, or it won't work. I am not sure if you can push anything higher than virtual desktop already offers if you are using that.

    Thanks for your video on the comparisons of VR headsets and games. I only have a PC and use my Quest 3 with AMS 2. I agree the clarity and resolution is very good with my Quest 3 on all my racing games. The sweet spot is very large with the headset compared to previous VR headsets I have tried. I connect my Quest 3 via a USB link Cable since I am sitting down all the time.
    The only one I got good results from was and still have is the Oculus Rift S. Only CON with the Rift S is the lower resolution. This VR headset connected directly to the Graphics card through the Display Port.
    it is too bad the GT7 is not available to run on a PC. i am not going to buy a PS 5 system just to run one game. I have many STEAM racing games on my Windows 10 PC, so I stay with that system and games.

With the exception of IRacing, all of them fail in the single player and especially in the multiplayer mode. For me, GT7 is by far the best overall package you can get as a racing game fan. The PSVR2 has the PS5 and games like GT7 wich Meta doesn’t offer a car game like that. Overall both headsets are good but have some things that make them shine more. Like for you I can see you love GT7 and that alone makes you prefer the PSVR2 it is whatever makes you happy and you identify with. What pushes me away from psvr2 (in GT7)is the world scale. No one mention this but you just need to try Automobilista, iRacing.. even ACC with shitty vr graphics, and you’re blown away by the size of a real super car overtaking you. It’s not easy to explain if people haven’t try both, but after playing on the Pc, the cars in GT7 don’t impress me.
    I guess that’s why people say that if you want to get competitive times, you need to stay away from VR. The VR usually makes you faster cause you have a better sense of distance and can attack the apex more accurately. But in GT7 VR, due to this slightly smaller world scale, it’s not an advantage.

      I think to many people overhyped PSVR2. It definitely has it's faults and it was not the greatest new headset to release like many reviewers would have had you believing. If you have your expectations in check, you can enjoy it. As for Quest 3. If you have a high end PC, it will be sharp from edge to edge. On PSVR2, it's the OLED screen and the filter they use that gives it a dirty look in the lenses. The Quest 3 with its LCD panel does not have that. Any screen door effect you migh see is so minor its practically not there.

    • @dharkbizkit
      @dharkbizkit 9 месяцев назад

      thx for the response. would you say the screendoor effect is less visible on the quest 3 compared to the ps5vr? because if read people say, that due to the extremly good lenses on the quest, you notice SDE more then on older headsets, because the screen is so sharp. well, pc is a 13600k with a 4080, so i guess that shoul work, tho foveated rendering is always the better option. i just wanna buy a headset, that i can treat like a moitor: buy a good one and keep it for several years, since theres no real jump made thats worth the extra money. also a thing about FOV, my gut says: a smaler fov only becomes a problem, if youre used to wider one. like having used the index for years. but if you have nothing to compared it against, it will never looked tight/bad/narrow.@@thecasualracinggamer

    • @thecasualracinggamer

      There is practically no noticeable screen door effect on the Quest 3 would be any where near distracting. PSVR2 has that dirty screen look trying to combat the screen door of OLED. You don't have any of that on the Quest 3.

    • @dharkbizkit

      i ask because ive read many people say: quest 3 has more visable SDE then the quest 2 because the lenses are so clean so that if SDE on quest 2 is already too much for you, then q3 will be worse. Tyriel Wood - VR Tech said the same, but i have no clue on how much eye vs camera makes a difference in that case@@thecasualracinggamer

      I saw his video. The clarity on the Quest 3 is incredible and will emerse you in more than any SDE will distract you from it. No matter how you slice it, it looks better than the Quest 2. I would take clarity over blurriness any day and we are not talking SDE like we saw on the Quest 1. To me, it's a non-issue on the Quest 3, but everyone is different.

    • @cladecq
      @cladecq 9 месяцев назад

      @@thecasualracinggamer It takes me ONE second to select from my dozens of preset race/trackday the one I want to use.
      Modding AC (with content manager of course) is so easy I don't understand where is the problem, because, the more important, ALWAYS the more important, it's how much pleasure and fun you've got from your sim session.
      Installing a car or a car pack and a track takes you a bunch of seconds.
      But the more important is what you are going to do with this : to be able to set up the combo exactly as you want.
      Not only you do this to the perfection with AC (including weather events, night and day etc etc etc) but also, once you are happy with it, you just have to save it to call it back later in ONE clic, and modify it in some seconds.
      I'm NOT a modder, I'm a big fan of vintages race cars.
      And modders makes THOUSANDS of cars and tracks for me (and everyone, of course) to install in some seconds.
      To makes me just "pick something and race" (or practice, hotlap etc etc etc) closer to the real things as you can't get in any other racing game in the world.
      You can't talk about "simracing" about GranTurismo, I'm sorry, it's a (good) game (but) quite far from a driving simulator like Assetto Corsa...
      But I can say remplacing a G2 by a Q3 is quite strange, as you downgrade your hardware and the quality of your experience... not onlyG2 have more pixels (few, but more, just check it...), but also much better colors and brightness, for the same price than the Q3.

I’ve wasted too much of my life installing stuff to make it better and then something doesn’t work with that version of Sol. Or I’ll come back to it a week later and something doesn’t work quite right. PC2 and AMS2 just work right out of the box and visually look the best in vr. Ac is a love hate relationship for me.

    GT3 cars should feel different than driving a road vehicle. Let's not fool ourselves. GT7 has around 700 cars and physics where more or less the cars feel very similar. Quite normal for this quantity. Who should have the time to translate all of this exactly? You need specialists for this. Money is less important here than personal dedication and perfection. One patch after another for AMS2 has been released every month for 3 years. Sony couldn't do that with its customers who want a final product on the day it goes on sale. But that's not how simulations work. Be it IRacing, Assetto Corsa, Lfs, Ectect....all patching and patching and patching. With giants like Gt7 and Forza there are at best 3-5 patches in the entire life phase. And most of these paths have nothing to do with force feedback or physics... A small, tight-knit team with around 50 cars and continuous monthly patches achieves significantly more than a heavy giant with 700 cars. Yes, AMS2 is a simulation at least twice as good as GT7. But if you want to own “all” the cars in the world and have a lot of playful freedom and game modes, then Gt7 clearly wins. Here you simply have to admit in a direct comparison. Quantity versus quality.
