    I only bought Ps5 for Gt7 and PSVR2! Was playing on huge flat screen prior and I will NEVER go back to playing ANY game on flat screen let alone GT7. The immersion, sense of speed and distance are unmatched! All my lap times have DRASTICALLY improved as a result of spotting apexes better due to enhanced depth perception. I would say if you’re not playing in VR , you’re not playing the full GT7 experience. Track details and engine sounds in general are sublime. Well worth the quality of life investment and one of the best decisions of my life!

    Holding "option" button to reset position is very useful. Neutral position is not always optimal. But you can achieve "adjusting seat position" by holding your head in different position and then hold to reset/recalibrate. By doing this you can move vertical/horizontal inside the car to find the best seat position for every different car.

    I bought gt7 having already got my psvr2 and so it's all I'm used to now. I tried it in 2d and it's awful tbh. VR once your used to it becomes the only type of gaming you ever want to do. This is the pinnacle of gaming for me and I've been gaming since early 80s. The fact that you also get Resident evil games in VR makes the Psvr2 a must have. I totally agree Doughtinator! PSVR2 totally changes the GT7 experience. If I can share a few tips to improve the experience. 1) I have a small fan mounted to my rig so I can “Feel the breeze” when racing, plus helps keep you cool. 2) I always adjust my headset and lenses position in settings menu before I race. 3) I use a VR face mask to absorb any sweat for those endurance races. 4) motion sickness can be mitigated by turning down the brightness level. i had the vr for ps4, and got motion sickness very very bad, i was very hesitant on psvr2 because same reason.. anyways, i risked it and got it and got sick again, over and over... finally got passed it, the best thing to get around it, is to lower the brighness setting on the VR unit... theres videos explaining why the brightness causes sickness, has something to do with the speed between frames... anyways, another thing that helped is having a fan around you, and i was eating those ginger chews while i played, and try not turning fast, like your head.. i hope this helps a few of you guys, my brain was melting whenever i tried vr first and it was not cool, since then, im so happy my brain finally got passed the sickness.

    • @chriscurtis2766
      @chriscurtis2766 Месяц назад +3

      Very good comment. I suffered instantly and severely from motion sickness. Thought I’d wasted £500.
      Confirmed ways to eliminate that is
      1. Reduce Brightness
      2. Have a fan on your face.
      3. Just build up tolerance by stopping as soon as you feel any symptoms. Have a break/water and come back to it.
      4. If you crash close your eyes and wait till it all stops. (It seems like the subtle small movements when moving back and forward really messes up you balance)
      I went from puking up after 30 seconds on the Nordscleifer to doing 3 hours solid with no problems in about a month of only 3 hours a week.
      It is so worth it. Now increased brightness too. Totally the best experience you can get on GT7.

    • @GreyMatterShades
      @GreyMatterShades Месяц назад +1

      Some good tips in both the original comment as well as the reply. One thing I'd say is ginger chews can actually be a bad thing. Yes they calm your upset stomach, but that can actually mask some of the symptoms of motion sickness, and it's important to feel it immediately when it comes up so you can stop right away. So using ginger chews once you've stopped to calm your stomach is good. Using them while you're playing can wind up making the sickness persist longer because you aren't getting the cues to stop playing at the right time.
      Really glad to hear you stuck with it and can enjoy VR without the sickness. 👍

    • @garethjones2125
      @garethjones2125 Месяц назад +2

      Good tips. I bought VR2 in January and have hardly used it as it made me nauseous. I really need to persist as it’s been gathering dust since then.

    • @GreyMatterShades
      @GreyMatterShades Месяц назад

      @@garethjones2125 It's definitely worth giving it another try, as most people can get over motion sickness with the right tips and a bit of perseverance.
      The most important thing is to stop the second you feel symptoms. Trying to push through just makes things worse. The fan is a big help too.
      It's also worth trying some games that are easier for VR newcomers, as a lot of the popular games (GT7, the Resident Evil games) are like jumping into the deep end. Better to work your way up to it.
      I could totally understand if you don't want to spend any more money on VR games if you're still not sure you'll be able to get past the motion sickness, but there are a bunch of beginner friendly VR games with free demos, like Box to the Beat, C-Smash VRS, Cosmonious High, Drums Rock, Ragnarock, Ghost Signal, and Puzzling Places.
      And if you did want to pick up a VR game, I'd highly recommend the Moss games, Pistol Whip, and The Room VR. I've also heard great things about Demeo, Tetris Effect: Connected, Walkabout Mini Golf, Beat Saber, The 7th Guest VR, and The Last Clockwinder. All are beginner friendly.

    • @garethjones2125
      @garethjones2125 Месяц назад +1

      @@GreyMatterShades Wow thanks for the detailed reply. I’ve downloaded a few of those Demos and I’m going to persevere and see if I can build some tolerance.

    FYI: TO RESET YOUR HEAD POSITION without leaving the game view in the headset (and see where your view will be in game):
    1. Click the OPTION button to Pause the game.
    2. Position your head to where you want the view to switch to.
    3. While holding your head in that position, click and HOLD the OPTION button.
    4. Now you can select continue and get back to driving.
    > You will see the view snap to the new position on screen and SEE where your head placement will be when you continue.
    I figured this process out because some of the cars don't have the head position placed even close to where I want it. So, to fix it, I find myself pushing my head forward and craning my head upward or crouching down while resetting in order to get the view correct.
    Note: This is the most frustrating part about PSVR2 in GT7 for me. But I feel like it's a small price to pay for such a great, immersive experience. I would never go back. They do need to give us a better option though. They should add the ability to be able to reset the view with a button "while driving".

    The VR is worth every penny. I feel like the price is nothing because it feels like you are really in the car. So it's essentially like having real cars and tracks. If you went racing for real, it would probably cost you twice as much for just 1 day. Here it feels basically the same as racing for real, except you can do it anytime you want, forever.

    Great video, I watched as I thought you were going to trash it, glad you didn't. I'm terrible with motion sickness and GT7 now no issue. I've compiled for motion sickness below for other suffers.
    Wear light clothing e.g. T-shirt
    Have a fan pointed at or near you
    Try to look mainly forwards and try not to look around too much or at things in the car.
    Bend you body a little into bends and your head etc. Not so much that the wire car appears but enough that your body feels like it's cornering in a car.
    If you lose the car and it's starts to spin then briefly avert your vision or even close your eyes.
    When the finish banner comes up, concentrate on it and not around in the car or side windows.
    Stay away as much as possible from dirt, snow or tracks with steep left right slopes e.g. the ovals.
    Keep you sessions short (15-30 mins) and take long breaks of at least 30 mins.
    First sign of feeling sick then stop, do not try to push through or you will feel unwell for hours and it will put you off on keep trying.
    After some time, you will be able to play for longer (I can now do hours) without issue and then you'll be free to look around more etc. I still stay away from dirt or snow tracks or if I do them then I don't do them for very long.

    Currently wants with the PSVR2 and GT7:
    - leaderboard
    - custom tachometers as either a HUD or in car thing. This is more for engine swaps… when my car’s stock tachometer goes up to 8k, but my motor revs to 9, it’s not too useful. Even modded cars rev well past their tachs too.
    - the banking effect on banked tracks
    - units… I mainly drive with MPH, if the car had the option for that, switch it.
    - higher resolution. Maybe PS5 Pro will be capable of this.
    - fine adjustment of driver height could be useful for some elements that are hidden behind the rim of the steering wheel. Granted it is probably like that in real life.
    I do love that I can use the native gauges. It’s fantastic to have and use. Though they aren’t the most legible.
    One note, you can see deltas to your fastest lap in your MFD. but it will only do the current lap you’re on as well as the last lap run. Also gives optimal lap too. Oh, and holding the pause button will also reset center; I hate being ever so slightly off center.

    It is sad that no updates have come to psvr for gt7...
    Racing info,(position and timing of other drivers) like they have on a flat screen. This has been asked for since it came out. A simple button touch to turn on and off would be awesome.
    There is an option for adjusting the seat height and distance to the wheel but it is greyed out. Even Drive Club had this option for the first psvr.🤔🤔
    All that said I love psvr on gt7. I find sometimes while driving it just brings a smile to my face.

    Good review. I have been using the VR2 since it first came out and when it works properly it’s damn amazing. But, I finally disconnected it after constant frustrations with intermittent glitches. Recently I went to use it and there’s no sounds at all when I put it on. It even kills my monitor sounds. Last time is used it everything was ok. Then, the rubber face cushions partially came off and it’s very difficult to reattach properly. In the end, because of the VR I found myself not desiring to play the game as much. I’m an older guy so I have very little patience for this expensive nonsense. I’m back to just my large monitor , which works perfect everytime. 22:25

For your best lap and section timings, one of the options in the HUD which includes the weather and tyres/fuel is a fastest lap and delta for up to the last 3 section splits. I only drive in GT7 in PSVR2. Yes, there are competitive disadvantages, but immersion is more important to me. Only time I don't use it is when I'm working on car liveries (which unsurprisingly accounts for majority of my GT7 time because my design style requires tedious multiple steps and the high number of liveries Im requested to make)

    My problem isn’t so much blur but instead it’s the weird jiggery textures, draw distance looks really bad like you see car parts pop in as you get closer to cars on tracks with long straits, flat textures and mura effect that’s a problem with the psvr2 itself. The 3d makes it worth it though just have to get used to it. Also I noticed some tracks looks really good but others like laguna seca look horrid. Same with certain weather and time of day.

    Oh I just love seeing newcomers to VR, glad you're enjoying it :). PSVR2 is just revolutionary for GT7. BTW make sure to check the settings, there might be ways to modify some of those motion issues you note, sometimes things are by default off for comfort.
    It's a bit different, but back on psvr1 we also had the unbelievable Wipeout in VR. I'd never been into Wipeout, but you know I played all three games back to back. I lost my mind, it was just so excellent.

    I will never go back to pancake gaming . I recently got the shifter for my set up and it's so good to drive a stick again one hand on the wheel the other resting on the stick it felt so right. To help with motion sickness i find moving around as you play helps so for gt lean to the left and right as you turn. For the best comparison of cockpits try the Honda nsx concept gr2 car everytime I get in that car in vr I'm totally blown away the flat version is just meh Another cool thing when driving in vr if you look over at the driver of the car you overtake occasionally they look back!.I suffered from motion sickness most of my life but never in vr.The tip you gave about driving slowly around the track is spot on also the weirdness when driving on a bank was intentional apparently during testing everyone threw up so they made it that way shame they cant implement a toggle so we can try it.

    Great video, i wish more of the regular streamers would use it, they have all tried it, love it but find it hard to communicate with there community.. I just can't go back to flat screen it feels so lifeless. On your first negative you actually learn to use that as a tool thats why it is as it is. Sometimes you will find the stock position is to close, far high or low. So all you do is position yourself opposite eg if you want to be closer you push right back in the chair, hold options button down only, once it resets move back forward. Once you know that position you just put yourself there before you restart it only takes a couple of times practice on each car.
    The slight blurriness is mostly down to it being 60hz reprojected. This also can add to the motion sickness for some. Thats interesting as there is 120 hz mode in gt7 so it must be the ps5 can't cope. 🤞For ps5 to sort that out. Red matter 2 is probably as clear as i have seen it can be.
    Id agree it is a bit expensive just for gt7, there are some other great experiences out there on it and always sales making most games quite cheap if you hang on.
    The lack of race info is biggest ine for me and can be very frustrating.
    The lock with horizon/ lock with car should be an option not changed, as if you were lucky enough to have a motion sim you would want it as it is.
    Nice work mate, hope you end up getting it and thanks for getting some feedback out there, as you say no footage can show how it really is until you are in there.

      in fairness, I think vr is a 'personal experience'... its not as good for viewers, as they don't get the immersion etc, just a shakey image - some vr games now support a different view for the social/streamed view to aid this.
      that said, for RUclipsrs, I quite like JammyHero's new approach, he combines flatscreen footage with VR views mixed in - its a bit like how in F1 these days, we see a regular tv image, mixed with a bit of helmet cam. so used sparingly, just like in is in F1, it gives an interesting additional viewpoint.

  • @wattouk

    Also about the blurriness, the sweet spot of the PSVR2 lenses is quite small. Getting the headset in the right position is paramount for a clear view. Also, the game uses foveated rendering. So it only detail renders the part of the screen you are looking at. The eye tracking sorts the rest out. And you can't trick it to try to see outside the detail render area. The eye tracking always knows where you are looking. Just a shame about the small lens sweet spot. Especially when compared to the Quest 3, which has a huge sweet spot.

  • @TheTechnobear
    @TheTechnobear Месяц назад

    great review - nicely balanced.
    I bought a PS5 + PSVR2 + G923 for GT7 a year ago... well worth it, never regretted it, it's an incredible experience, and I never play GT7 without it - despite the negatives you mention (which I fully agree with) - its just such a natural experience, going down Eau Rouge in a Gr3 (or a radical!) for the first time, wow. I cannot get enough of the Spa 24 hour with the rain !
    its hard to describe... perhaps best example though is awareness, if you are going into a corner and you have someone on the inside but not sure where they are, you just glance over..you'll also find yourself naturally looking to the apex - .its so natural, no looking at radars or trying to shift your view with a joystick.
    a couple of notes:
    - if you wear glasses, its best to buy some prescription lens for vr2 which simply clip in. (worth it even for a mild prescription)
    - you can reset the centre point using the reset button, you dont need to come out (but still its crazy , PD need to fix this)
    - after a year, I did want to play other driving games (only on flat) , esp WRC - and similar to you, GT7/VR2 made playing flat a bit 'meh'.
    but after a few weeks, I noticed, I could switch between vr n' flat and enjoy both again..
    - have you tried the vr replay - thats quite cool too...
    can't wait to see what comes next... (gt8?)
    wouldn't it be great if vr showroom and replay were merged, so you could. walk out of the garage onto the pitwall, and watch the race :)
    anyway, hope you get one, spoil yourself, you've worked hard to make a great channel.... you deserve a treat ;)

    I use both psvr2 and normal screen depending what I'm doing in gt7. Most of the weekly challenges in vr and other single player stuff. If i use an alternative account I'll play in vr occasionally too. But my main account whether I'm doing dailies or private lobbies, I use normal screen, otherwise I'm at a massive disadvantage with all that information missing on the hud. Pd have had a year to implement this, as its been a factor from the launch. Annoyingly tho, PD doesn't listen like most of the time to its loyal customers. There is so much right with this game but the few things that are wrong are massive to me. Examples. Every replay you have to switch on information and it doesn't remember your selection for the next. The time sector relative used to hold the info on sport forever so you knew what times you were capable of on what tyres with a particular car in tt, even if you came back months later. Now it resets the info, even if you restart the tt in the same session.

First chromatic abberation, this can be improved (now is much better since its launch) Dashboards don’t provide all of the informations that they show. Like tcs, tyre heat etc. Lastly driving position can be set automatically. I hope polyphony sole these. For the rest of the game that is phenomenal, you can feel that the sunlight heats your arms and face. That is mind blowing 🔥

    Thanks for a fair opinion regarding PSVR2 And GT7.I'm so frustrated with My PSVR2 and Yamauchi in particular . The man is notorious for being very successful but both lazy and stubborn..GT7 was built for PS4 and doesn't take advantage of The PS5 properly and it clearly shows in VR.The resolution is appalling and the ridiculous decision to run it at 60hz reprojected to 120hz kills the game.Yamauchi has been repeatedly asked to give players the option to run the game at either a native 60hz or 72hz but he is not willing to even try!The PSVR2 has been proven to be a clear visual experience if the games are done right .For an example of how shoddy The GT7 VR mode is I ran Project Cars 2 (A 2017 Game)on a 2070 Graphics card (Comparable to a PS5)at 72 frames using Quest 3(Similar resolution to PSVR2)The clarity was a shocking difference, Crystal clear and smooth with better track and car details on medium settings.I can't wait for the PC support for PSVR2 and the Rumoured GT7 PC Version.Then we may see the full potential of the headseat ,not the botched job Sony's software has delivered so far.Sorry for the long Rant.

    Spot on. I ordered the psvr2 as soon as it became available. I've been racing on it for just over a year now, Daily Race and everything else. Every single car feels unquie, and there are times when I just open a lobby and drive different cars around a track. Even the slower cars became so much fun. PSVR2 ruined all other racing games for me. Without VR, I stopped playing ACC and others. Couple things I would really like to have is race data for one, the other is some sort of alert function for when another car is in your blind spot, going side by side through a corner. The radar is there, but with immersion also comes with my intense focus to the corner at hand and it's hard to glance over at the radar at the same time.
