From Maria my mother taught me to embroider when I was 7. I am now 71, I love to sew. Watching you sew is a joy. Sewing takes patience. And love of fabric and all things that make up the Art of sewing. This shows in your excellent work. Carry on.☺️
I just wanted to say that you are the only woman I enjoy watching and listening to when it comes to sewing. I could listen to you all day. Thank you for guiding me as I take up this new hobby/trade.
Hemming this way seems better to me. There was a lot of bulk when I finished. I'll have to try and undo them and do it this way. Thank you for such GOOD CLEAR video.
Girl! Thank you for the big details and the tiny details that you always show. I know, after a little practice, this technique would be very worthy on the jeans that I absolutely love! I love your content and I am wishing for you only continued blessings from your river of creative flow!
I tried this technique on two pairs of jeans for my adult son. Worked just as advertised! Really great instructions, it took a while to do the first pair but second pair went really smoothly. Thanks so much for sharing your expertise!
I just finished shortening 6 pair of jeans for a customer! I wasn’t thrilled with the result so I thought of you and I watched this video and loved your technique! I didn’t cut the excess off I turned it inside and I used the iron on hem tape. Not sure why but some places did not stick! Perhaps I didn’t keep the iron it long enough! I love all your videos!
Thank you for this very well timed video. My nephew gave me his pants to shorten the hem the day this video came out. I tried your method and it worked absolutely beautifully. It was not a lot of effort at all.
This is wonderful. I've seen other methods but your method is the most professional one I've seen. Your workmanship is absolutely beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing. I'm now subscribed so I can continue to learn from you. 😊🙏🌻❤
I use this technique for jean hems, they look so much better with the original faiding hem, its almost undetectable. Your video is great for breaking down the steps needed. Thankyou you are amazing.
This is amazing, it was actually how I found you and I am so glad I. My son insisted I hem his pants this way he had some hemmed when he was in another country and he said it could be done LOL I have learned so much from you since then Love your updated video Thank you for everything you do
whenever I do the Euro Hem I finish it completely in a blue that blends in with the jeans, then I topstitch it with the gold thread after. mostly I use the American hem or just the plain jeans hem. I like your trick of securing the seams first so they don't move.
Absolutely brilliant! I still have some of my husband's jeans to hem, especially now that fall is here... lol Side note, I LOVE LOVE LOVE your hair and your outfit! So beautiful! 😍
Hello again.....this is a fantastic video !!! I may be overthinking this.... but when I go to cut the jeans,,,,,,, do I cut on the new hem line or 5/8th above....to allow for the piece I am sewing back on?...Hope this make sense......
Hi! It totally makes sense. The problem is that if you cut 5/8" above of the finished line, you won't have then the seam allowance that you need to attach to the new hem. Here are my calculations considering that most of the modern hems are stitched at 1/2" instead of the 5/8" that it used to be. From the hem line up, you have to attach the hem at 1/2" (sewing line) Then you need seam allowance (down) that will be 3/8" Still we have 1/8" that is a little too long, which 1/16" will be for the sewing thick fabric shrinkage and 1/16" is what it is a little too long. You caught me on this one 😉 I don't try to correct it because I find 1/16" negligible. But, in honor of the truth, the perfect measurement for cutting should be 1/16" above the desired length if you use a 3/8" seam allowance. And 3/16" above the desired length if you use 1/4" seam allowance for sewing. As these differences won't really change the overall look of the finished pants, I try not to mention them to not confuse the overall audience. But I'm glad to be more specific when more deeply analysis is required. There are other nuances to these measurements. You gave me the idea to make a video clarifying this and other details that might be very important for some of the viewers. Sorry if this answer is too long. I hope it makes sense. Let me know if you have further questions Cheers 🙂
Am I missing something? Why not just cut the jeans leaving room for them and then turn fabric under twice for a New hem? What's the advantage of using old hem? Video was very well done. Thank you!
Hi Carolyn! I can see your point perfectly, however, it has become very fashionable to keep the discolorations of the original hem. I think the following video might illustrate better the point. It does have a nice history of the jeans at the beginning but your question is answered in full after, this. So you can skip the beginning. ruclips.net/video/DiO69lFyhIQ/видео.html Please, let me know what do you think after watching the video. Cheers 😊 Aida
That’s a good question. I can tell you that with Today’s fashion, measuring got very tricky. If everyone wore the pants on the same way with the crotch on the right place, the inseam measurement would be the best one. But all pants sit differently. At my store we measure one by one on the customer. I hope this helps.
My teacher always called euro/american/original the same thing... "Eurohem" and so do I. Personally I prefer what you call "American Hem" but I leave the choice up to my customer so I have an example of both at the front counter to show what each look like.
If you cut on the length the pants are supposed to be then sew using a 3/8 seam line, when the hem part is added back on it adds an additional 1/2 inch or more depending on the width of the original hem. There could be a difference of the finished hem length making it longer than the desired finished hem. This is confusing to me.
The cut hem is kind of acting like bias binding- it’s wrapping around the edge, not adding length (say you stitch 1/2 away from edge, the hem folds over to cover that 1/2 “ rather than extending past it so the length stays the same
That would be the American Hem. This is an interesting video that tackles this topic. Plain Hem vs. Eurohem vs. American Hem ? (+free flowchart to help decide) ruclips.net/video/DiO69lFyhIQ/видео.html I hope this helps!

Making the top stitch first with the blue thread is such a great idea. It will make it easier to make the final top stitch. Thanks for sharing 😊
Your hair color is pretty love all your videos. Beautiful work

Which is a more accurate measurement? Using a persons inseam measurement for altering pants or the outseam?
That’s a good question. I can tell you that with Today’s fashion, measuring got very tricky. What did the button do?
I think it is explained in this video: ruclips.net/video/TUrE8244Cxo/видео.html
Are you accepting jeans to be tailored? I’m happy to pay for shipping 😂❤
I’ve been sewing for 40+ years always hem jeans this way.
Yesssssss!!!! 🥰🥰🥰
Cảm ơn cách lên lai gấu rất đẹp
🥰🥰🥰
You did a great job...but the whole point of a euro hem is not to remove the original factory stitching of the hem
That would be the American Hem. This is an interesting video that tackles this topic.

This is a beautiful technique, but I prefer to just hem. If you gain a little weight, the pants get shorter, so I can't lower the hem again.
Yes. I can see your point. Anyways, after a few washes, the regular hem will start to discolored and look very similar. Cheers!
My tailor cut the hem and attached it again like never cut.. How did he did it i don't know 😂😂
It's like magic! 🤗
If your denim is spandex, it will lose the elasticity in the hem area and become unwearable after few washes
Always euro hem.
