    Not only do you make this procedure look less daunting, with great professional-looking results, but your calm manner and voice are SUPER pleasant to listen to and are reassuring! I’m ready to jump on this technique and try it out, but will heed your advice about having the right tools to do it before I give it ago…Thanks a million!

      While I guess she is doing her best at this, but it is obvious that she is an amateur in sewing, but bless her heart just da same :)
      FYI, here are a couple of URL’s on sewing back original hems by ladies who are more likely non-amateurs.

    This technique of hiding the sewn seam inside the hem is the best of all the tutorials I've seen on You tube!
    It's by far less bulky and noticeable to the naked eye. This is pure genius!!!

    Good video and instructions. I like the finished look of "binding the bottom edge", though I'm not sure the typical domestic machine could handle the bulk. You did mention needing a "strong machine". Good instructions. Nerve wracking to "cut the jeans to the exact finished size. Accurate measurements is a necessity as you mentioned.

I keep seeing this method (not necessarily yours, but shortening using the original hem). This 5’3” girl has always just made a new hem….seems easier to me, and looks original. 3:17

    I like your technique the best of the 4 or 5 I’ve viewed. I’ve been sewing for over 50 yrs and always found hemming jeans were not that difficult but getting that hem to look original. Now, if the jeans you did were non stretch, I think you’d have to open that outside seam to adjust the difference in width of the old hem and new hem at the narrower pant leg. Correct? Thanks for your lessons

    A stitch width of 2.0 when you straight stitch is 3/8" seam allowance, if you line up the fabric edge with the edge of the presser foot.

    • @MrsMTMomma
      @MrsMTMomma 8 месяцев назад

      Not all sewing machines have the same foot width so this isn’t correct for everyone. Sorry. But someone might want to measure the foot they have and see if theirs matches that width.

    • @sewshowwithshae

      Not yet but you’ll want to taper the original hem band at the inseam just like you’d taper the pant leg itself if needed.

    I just wondering how the jeans factory make that original hem? Is there machine for that?

    • @sewshowwithshae
      @sewshowwithshae  2 года назад +4

      The point of 'reattaching the original hem' is actually to preserve the artificial aged look of the bottom edge. In the factory them just hem the pants by turning them up and stitching like normal but then the jeans go through stages of weathering often using chemicals to create the distressed look.

    • @sewshowwithshae
      @sewshowwithshae  2 года назад +5

      I like to wrap to the outside because then the final line of stitching is done from the outside of the garment so you can see exactly where you are stitching and make it nice and straight and pretty!

I'm not going to be able to finish everything that's due today. It doesn't help that the button machine is broken and I have 12 suits due today that need buttons. ( I work alone with no help)
