Yes! I'm gonna do that and post a picture on the community post. I was afraid that the thick thread could reduce the elasticity and comfort but they are lose enough that I can safely top stitch. Thanks for the input 🥰
That's quite clever. I have narrow hips/legs and a somewhat thick waist, despite not being at all overweight...so finding pants that fit is always a challenge. And who doesn't hate the constant pinching of a too tight waistband 😆. Although if I was using an old jeans for material anyway, I would be tempted, to replace the front part of the waistband. It would add work, but would look even neater. In any case - I think, I prefer this to adding a triangle at the side seam 👍
I prefer the non-traditional way(your way) because you’ve kept the integrity of the jeans by keeping the pocket! Great tutorial! Nothing makes me more salty than fake front pockets😡
I understood the first way best but both were ingenius. I’ve been wondering how to do this for a while. I hadn’t thought of inserting elastic before. I need to try this alteration. Many thanks.
I love seeing you demonstrate these techniques, especially the one keeping the pockets. I was going to try this on my own but I’m glad I don’t have to reinvent the wheel. ❤️
I just want to say you did a very nice job on that alteration.. there was a couple of things that you did that I have not done before so I was glad to see that.. I also wanted to say I don’t use a seam rippers.. I feel it takes too long.. I also do not use a razor blade, too many times I have ripped the fabric because of the razor blade.. what I use are thread nippers..and i have never ripped the fabric..and it goes fairly quik..just saying..😊..I hope you give it a try..
Omg. I have all of these jeans I was going to give to goodwill. But! … my mom bought me a sewing machine last year for Christmas so I will keep them & do this! I like the pocket version better. Definitely subscribed you wonderful lady! Amazing! ❤
Love them both, as a matter fact, I love all of your methods. I do alterations on costumes for a high school drama club, and your tutorials have made my life so much easier. Thank you so very much!
This is exactly how I outgrow my jeans. Now I can keep my favorites and not have to buy more! I love both techniques. I really like how you were able to keep the pocket, but the traditional way would be good for those jeans, where the pocket lining wants to poke out. Both are very useful. Thank you sooo much for your great tutorials.
Omg you are such a joy, once again. I was thinking "she has the patience of a saint" with that first pocket, then the second one made my eyes light up. Love these posts!!!
I like keeping the pocket! This is clever. You could also replace the waistband if you didn't want to have that missing from the part above the pocket. Or pick apart the waistband from the pockets to the back and piece in another piece of stretchy jeans at the center back of the waistband, then reattach. That would help with fit and you wouldn't need to mess with the zipper and button part still and keep from adding a lot of bulk by the pockets. I've pieced into the waistband like that before but it would be cool to try with this too.
I love how you demonstrated both ways, but I would prefer to keep the pockets. Your tutorials are so helpful. I have made alterations to my clothing and family clothing using the methods you have provided. Blessings to you!
I like both ways and I especially love your trick for using the plastic bag for making the pattern. I never would have thought of that. how much would you charge for letting jeans out in this manner?
I love this idea! I have a few customers that would benefit from this. I will try it out soon! Also, which type of marking pen do you use? I've never seen those before if they are a disappearing ink type?
Your revised method is superior - a lot of work, so professional. Why can't manufacturers understand how to cut a pant for "women". I yearn for pants with a waist-adjustable band.
You Are Great, Teacher, Everything, Clear,Totally Clear, Thank You ❤ And Just as a comment, I Like The One That Keeps The Pocket, I, Love Pockets in Everything, Thank You, Very Much, Be Happy, And God bless You 😘😘
I like keeping the pocket. Thanks for sharing! I just cut the waist band on both sides & added elastic on both. It’s not as nice of finish as yours but my shirt covers it. I will have to try your method some time. Blessings to your family 🤗💜🇨🇦
Pockets for the win! Each strategy has its merits but pockets are valuable real-estate!
You are very innovative. Now if only someone could make bras more comfortable.
I love how you found a way to keep the pocket! The only thing I will add is topstitching under the elastic to look like the rest of the waistband!
Yes! I'm gonna do that and post a picture on the community post. I was afraid that the thick thread could reduce the elasticity and comfort but they are lose enough that I can safely top stitch. Thanks for the input 🥰
@@DowntownTailoring That would be nice. 👍
❤You are an alterations genius! I like the second one with the pockets best.
@@DowntownTailoring and youre right about that too.Less stitching makes for more stretching in the band ive found.
I love the second method that keeps the pockets. I have some jeans I need to do this alteration on.
🥰🥰🥰
I agree - pockets are important! I wish I’d known this method before I donated all my “too small” jeans!
Love both ideas

I prefer the non-traditional way(your way) because you’ve kept the integrity of the jeans by keeping the pocket! Great tutorial! Nothing makes me more salty than fake front pockets😡
