Thank you a million times over for sharing this easy to follow video with us. This is BY FAR the BEST, easiest video to follow and easiest to replicate for doing a Euro hem. Forget about adding then dividing half, etc....Follow this video for the best results!!!! This is my GO-TO video from now on. xoxo Happy Sewing 🙂
I would never have attempted to shorten my adult daughter's jeans until I found your inspired instructions. Your directions were so easy to understand (though my mind couldn't too many of the exact instructions imbedded in my mind for long. So happy that I could rewind and replay as I went along. It felt as though I had private instructions, and my daughter will be amazed at how it was done. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
So clear!! I watched many other videos, but this is, by far, the easiest to follow. You made it so clear and made it look so easy. The hand stitching was a tip of not seen anywhere else but made a nice finish. Thanks!
I often have to turn up my jeans. I start off the same -, turn up to the inside, but then I don't bother to retain the hemmed bit - I cut off the end of the legs, leaving a good allowance, turn the raw edge in, and hand stitch the hem. It removes the "casual" jeans look, and I quite like the more "tailored" appearance. The piece I've cut off is kept - it's sturdy fabric, can often be used between fabrics to provide strength when sewing on buttons. I've also used it to make belt loops on denim skirts - lose a little weight, need a belt. Thank you for your tutorials, they're very useful. I've been sewing for over 60 years - never to old to learn new methods. Aug'24. UK. E ❤
Hi, Just did this. Thank you so much! Perfect result. Your explanation and video is by far the best. As the jeans tapered a little towards the bottom and there were more than 4 inches to takeoff, I had to take them in a little on the flat seam without yellow double stitching so that they don’t gather. You cannot tell that they have been shortened unless you get your binoculars out. Just fantastic 😊.
This was very good, step by step, clear, the measuring was very helpful. I’m Getting older and my fingers don’t work so good anymore, so I took my time and played the video a few time, It worked. I didn’t use my sewing machine, it's very old and heavy to take out... sooo I did everything by hand. Thank you for your help.
Dear Angela, Thanks for another very helpful and easy to understand video! I wanted to say that it is a pleasure to listen to your clear speaking and your kind voice. English is a foreign language to me so I really appreciate that 🙂
I always have to shorten the legs of pants. Depends on the finish they have on them which method I use. I love this method for jeans. I enjoyed watching this. Very informative. Thank you.
I wouldn’t have had the first clue how to do this, but it actually seems logical watching you do it Angela! I always have to take up my husband’s jeans (usually far more messily and inaccurately than this) and I will definitely follow this next time. Thank you!
This is great. I’m going to try! I also have jeans with frayed hens that I’d like to shorten but I can’t salvage the hem. Hems on jeans does intimidate me!
Used this method too but I just cut fabric close to new seam and double stitch and it holds and looks fine also because I am too lazy to do it properly! But obviously this only works with straight 👖 jeans...if there is a lot of taper or flare.. forget it... Been sewing since 1966 so have adjusted jean hems from wide bell bottoms to skinny tapered boot hems as I am now under 5 feet tall so all my slacks get shortened! 😅 Also I am too lazy to do the bulk trimming or sewing foot leveling...comes out fine but your methods are better! 😅 love your vids! ❤
I have taken my jeans to 15 different tailors. Each one promised they could keep the original bottom edge. Not one did. Thry dimply cut and hemmed and mist used just white thread despite the jeans having yellow stitching. I have no idea why they all lied - but i just did this myself in 20 minutes and it looks better then every single pair ive had tailored. Why so Tailors agree to this and then just do whatever they want?
@ I assumed the first few didn’t understand what I meant after one gave me back the original hem that they cut off. I then made sure I went to a tailor whose first language is English. Same result. I had the next few repeat after me …. At that point I just assumed it wasn’t possible. I was frustrated because I can sew - I have a great sewing machine and a serger. I was looking for a professional result and ended up with jobs worse than if I’d done it myself. I’m not sure why I didn’t look this up sooner. Anyway, thanks! The problem these days is that designers seem to only make ankle length jeans now so they are all too short. I think they must have heard the cries of the short- legged and gone overboard. 🤣
Unfortunately just having a shop and owning machinery doesn’t mean you know how to do alterations properly . I’m glad you got this sorted. Please have a look on my channel for more tutorials. Since you sew, you may like some of my projects too😊

Thank you. Yes tapering jeans is a whole other tutorial!
love this would it work for a t shirt hem or any knight pants
Thank you. You can do it but it will be a bit lumpy as the seam will be a bit obvious.
Use a denim or heavy duty needle to prevent needle from breaking.
Brilliant
Thanks for watching😊
Obrigada Ângela!

Is this possible to do with tapered jeans?
you need to taper leg to fit the hem first.

It is frustrating when you don't get the results you asked for. Especially from 15 different tailors!!???? I am glad you got a great result. 😊

I got a machine that doesn’t have the part to do it like you do can I do it without it. My machine is 50 years old .
You don’t need any special machine. You can even sew everything by hand if you want.
I always measure ftom the crotch down.
