Great reaction, thanks and welcome to BABYMETAL.
    - The three young ladies are BABYMETAL.
    - They are Suzuka Nakamoto as Su-metal (the lead singer), Yui Mizuno as Yuimetal and Moa Kikuchi as Moametal (backing vocals and dance).
    - Yui left the group officially in 2018 after not being able to perform since October 2017 due to undisclosed health issues.
    - They added Momoko Okazaki as Momometal in April 2023 as a full-fledged official member.
    - They are backed by a live band called Kami Band (not in this video).
    - The guys in skeleton costumes are called "babybones" they were there pretending to play the instruments (because they couldn't afford an actual band) while the instrumentals were in a backing track. Su-metal always sings live.
    - The visuals on this MV are from the concert Legend 1997. Su-metal seitan sai (Su-metal's birthday party) held on December 21st 2013. She turned 16 the previous day.
    - The "babybones" were replaced by the Kami Band for good in March 2014, just a few months after this performance took place.
    - They mix any music genre with any metal sub-genre, they are highly unpredictable and pretty much different from anything else.
So, just expect the unexpected and prepare to be surprised.
    Enjoy your BABYMETAL journey!

Babymetal is unlike any other musical act you will see. They are the creators of the "kawaii metal" genre, which means "cute metal". Kawaii metal blends Japanese J-pop vocals, dance, and aesthetics with heavy metal music to create this unique fusion. While there have been numerous other groups that have tried to replicate them, Babymetal are the originals and the best.
Babymetal was the brainchild of their producer/manager Key "Kobametal" Kobayashi, who wanted to bring metal to new audiences that might not otherwise experience it. His goal was to make a hybrid of J-pop and metal that would be more approachable for the mainstream that found metal a bit too much.
Babymetal is made up of three members. Su-metal (Suzuka Nakamoto) is the lead vocalist and leader of the group. She is supported by two other members who have the "scream and dance" role. The original supporting members that feature in this video are Yuimetal (Yui Mizuno), who retired from the group in 2018, and Moametal (Moa Kikuchi) who continues in her role to this day. In April this year, Momometal (Momoko Okazaki) officially joined as the new third member of the group, having served as a backup dancer for the last four years. Babymetal is only the three girls, not the band.
Babymetal's backing band for live shows is called the "Kami Band" (God or Spirit Band), and is made up of some of Japan's top session musicians. The lineup of the Kami band is not fixed, and varies depending on who is available for any given show.

  • @watcher2554

Yes, Babymetal are Just the Girls. Their Backing Band, known as 'The Kami Band' (god band) are made up of some of Japan's top session musicians but...the 'Actors' in skeleton costumes (known as Babybones) are just that, Actors. In the early days, Babymetal could not afford a full band so they played to backing tracks and had Babybones on stage with them. That is what happened here, and this was the last concert that Babybones played with the group as going forward from here the 'Kami Band' (live band) played all live performances (note: the Kami Band do not play on the albums, just live).
And Babymetal is Japan's #1 International band with a #1 Album in the USA on Billboard's "Top Rock Album" chart back in 2019!!
    More Babymetal Always!!

If you want to get technical, babymetal isn't the girls at all, its the genre of music they are (were) creating. They could arguably replace Su and Moa and still be BM because arguably its not any specific girl.
Now...for ME, the Who of Babymetal is the Su show. then Moa a close second. the 3rd..well hell, ever since Yui'd departure I am flexible there, but also its the live Kami band which they for some reason are pushing further and further back lately, which I dislike.
So who is Babymetal...I guess its a bit of a personality test...Who it is to you may not be what it is for me. What BM is, is the fusion of metal with j-pop or j-rock (and others) regardless of who is at the helm.
      Its a corporate creation.

@@robxsiq7744I’m sure you have watched the Tokyo Dome shows. The answer to why Amuse is burying the Kami band behind masks is pretty self evident-they were becoming too integral to the BabyMetal construct. They even had their own individual goodbye spotlight at the end (with Takayoshi doing a little Jimi Hendrix style behind the head guitar shredding). The kick drums are labeled ‘BabyMetal’, not ‘Kami Band’. Still haven’t figured out if Koba was basically planning a bait and switch all along [replace the BabyBones with the Kami Band when it became impossible to use them for concerts outside Japan-only to have the Kamis become too identifiable]. He obviously understood that placing the three girls on stage with just a backing track was never going to fly.

Welcome to the Foxhole and BabyMetal journey 🦊🤘🔥
Always glad to see more reactors getting into this amazing group. They're currently rocking out with the Europe and UK Tour for the 2nd time in this year but now with a headlining shows and everyone were having a blast with the setlist, the new songs from latest album and the classic hits, especially GC! either you hate or love it, is a song with crazy amount of views and they don't wanna leave behind in any of their setlist.
Dance choreography and metal had never been seen before and they somehow managed to make it works creating their unique own genre called kawaii-metal, mixing Jpop (not Kpop) and heavy metal along with many more sub genres and rhythms, you'll have so much fun going through this journey.
This isn't actually live sound, is studio album version over a live performance which was partially live only on the vocals and choreography with backing track sound. They have their own band called Kami Band introduced later on that same show and after that Kami Band become regular at live performance but they're not official members, only these trio are the front women.
BabyMetal is a Japanese metal dance unit created in 2010 under another Jpop/Jrock group called Sakura Gakuin, they had 11 and 12 years old when started this and become independent after 2013, they created their own genre called kawaii-metal (kawaii means cute) mixing Jpop with metal sound and different subgenres along with many more rhythms. Their name is a reference to a new genre and not related to their ages or "baby" faces, is a pun intended play words with "heavy-metal" which sounds similar to "baby-metal".
    They are:
    *SuMetal* lead vocalist, now 25.
*MoaMetal* scream and dance, now 24.
*YuiMetal* scream and dance, former member since 2018.
*MomoMetal* scream and dance, she's 20 and is the new official member since April 1st recently.
    None of them are related.
After 2018 you'll see backup dancers performing along with them but none of them are official members, they don't sing, only dance, but that status change recently like i said.
This was in December 2013 at SuMetal 16th Birthday, the other girls had 14 yo and there was a big party you have seen nothing yet, wait for _"Babymetal Death"._
The backing band here are called "baby-bones", they don't actually play they're just mimicking air playing instrument, later on this same concert and after 2014 you'll see the girls performing with a real band called the Kami Band, more of them later.
Some recommendations for next songs like:
    - _"Road Of Resistance"_ live in Japan official.
    - _Catch Me If You Can_ live at Budokan 2014 (you got a safe to react version with subtitles at GuilhermeCait channel) or...
    - _Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!_ live at this same live performance Legend 1997 in Makuhari Messe Japan when SuMetal is celebrating her birthday becoming a metal goddess queen and leaving her idol jpop form (you can find one at Gans Tomas channel under "Head Bangya" title).
You have more than 60 songs and still more to come. Amuse their label is very hard to deal so if you want to avoid copyright blocked you have "Babymetal Reactor Resource" channel you'll get full original clips of their best live performance with watermarked logo safe to react, look for "Future Plans" vid, follow instructions and you'll get all of them, upload the one with the logo for us and you can watch without it, don't worry for us we already saw all of them.
I'm gonna try to leave in my next comment where to get safe clips to react if YT allows me to do it.
    See you next time! 🦊🤘🍫

Here's the list of live performance clips usually safe to reacts without any filters so you won't need to rely on live compilations, there might be some exceptions:
      - Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!! live at Legend 1997, SuMetal 16th Birthday in 2013, they got MV of this and is fun, but live is a blast.
      ruclips.net/video/LNFiDWJh2FA/видео.html
      - Akatsuki, live at Budokan 2014, this is a SuMetal solo.
      ruclips.net/video/g2372C5PJLM/видео.html
      - Megitsune, official MV is my first recommendation but is usually blocked if you don't put filters, so if you want live and safe to react, check it out Budokan 2014.
      ruclips.net/video/dU38CYkpBvI/видео.html
      - Akatsuki Unfinished Version, SuMetal solo again but with only a piano behind special performance at Legend 1997.
      ruclips.net/video/nwsinmxTxbo/видео.html
      - Babymetal Death, live at Legend 1997, this is the big finale, you're gonna blow your mind with this one.

      - Catch Me If You Can with Kami Band intro live at Budokan 2014.
      ruclips.net/video/ng8U_j0gpLI/видео.html
      - Ijime, Dame, Zettai live at Sonisphere Festival 2014, sometimes the official live MV isn't so friendly so you know what to do.
      ruclips.net/video/Ro-_cbfdrYE/видео.html
      - Rondo Of Nightmare, with Mischiefs Of Metal Gods Intro live at Budokan 2014, another SuMetal solo but way different than usual happy songs.
      ruclips.net/video/8WBDiLMNZcE/видео.html
      - Doki Doki Morning, official MV, their very first song and MV full of kawaiiness, usually is safe to react so try it, if you want a live performance, this is the first proshot version with the Kami Band live at Legend 1999 (YuiMetal and MoaMetal 14th birthday).
      ruclips.net/video/BSjv9OYtWZ0/видео.html
      - Uki Uki Midnight, this one is a follow up to Doki Doki Morning but way different sound, this is the PV, is super fun but the sound isn't so great but at least is live.
      ruclips.net/video/Yj-UQIlqsIQ/видео.html
If you want better sound with the Kami Band, then live at Budokan 2014 it is.
      ruclips.net/video/ESzY9dL613Q/видео.html
      - Onedari Daisakusen, live at Legend 1997, this is a Black Babymetal song, is a subgroup with only YuiMetal and MoaMetal.
      ruclips.net/video/1dT1ywYR5So/видео.html
      - Iine! again official MV hits way better but if you want live, here live at Budokan 2014.
      ruclips.net/video/5sCvYVNeD0w/видео.html
      - Karate live at Download Festival 2016, "kitsune6001" got this with a short interview intro.
      ruclips.net/video/FKOL6v3Md2c/видео.html
      - Road Of Resistance live in Japan official, this one is easily to find but be careful with the blocked by putting some filters just in case.
      - Kimi To Anime Ga Mitai - Answer For Animation With You, live at Budokan 2014, not sure if it's still safe, so try some filters, if is audio blocked try to mute or just cut the parts.
      ruclips.net/video/M8FKumvh-w8/видео.html
Here's a song you can find at Babymetal Reactor Resource (BMRR), a helpful place to get watermarked logo clips of the original live version to curve the annoying algo.
      - GJ! live at Wembley Arena 2016, another Black Babymetal song.
      ruclips.net/video/Hg0Rylcg8F0/видео.html
This is BMRR short vid to follow instructions and get the spreadsheet with the full list.
      ruclips.net/video/q40VmTHSh4c/видео.html
And here's a BM guide (the long one).
      ruclips.net/video/gDne0xwniTg/видео.html
There's a more recent beginners guide at "Briaghh" called "So... What is BabyMetal?" is more short and with some fair update until this year unlike the other one.

This is an early hit of theirs, but they've grown and matured in the last 10 years, and they sound even better now. Their latest single is a killer collaboration with guitarist Tom Morello(Rage Against The Machine, Audioslave), and the album they released this year is full of bangers.

Glad to see a new first reaction to Babymetal! To answer a few questions:
1). “[Kawaii Metal] …pioneered in Japan in 2010.” -> By Babymetal, who recorded their first song in 2010.
2). Babymetal is just the 3 gals: lead Su-metal flanked by and Moametal and Yuimetal. Yui left in 2018 due to health, and Momometal currently in the 3rd spot.
3). Skeleton costumes = fake band. Music is tracked, vocals are live. Babymetal just got big in Japan in 2013, so they couldn’t afford “full time” live band just yet. The 5-song encore for this concert is done with a live band, the Kami Band, who still tours with Babymetal since that moment.
4). Meaning of lyrics: “I want chocolate but worried about weight, but wait, please gimme chocolate, since I worked so hard.
Don’t read to much into it, at the time, it was a fun song performed by 16/14 year olds. Unexpectedly, it went viral in 2014 and got them International recognition.
    Other suggestions:
1). Headbanger (live, Legend 1997): same concert as Gimme Choco, but with live band now. This song showcases Babymetal well.
2). Road of Resistance (Official): A 2015 power metal anthem performance of epic proportions.
3). Monochrome (live 2023, clear night): Mature Babymetal, in their mid-20s now.
Look forward to more Babymetal! 🤘🦊

All three were students at a private school, financed by the Japanese music industry to train future J-Pop idols (girls) at the age of 10-15 and focusing on singing, dancing, stage presence, speaking to huge crowds, giving interviews etc.
Their first MV (Doki, Doki Morning) was part of the school curriculum, namely the practical part of the half year exam. At the time Su was 13, Yui and Moa 11. Su is the typical example, why Japanese musicians, with few exceptions, in general are so much better than musicians from Europe or the US. Su had her first appearance on stage at the age of 3, so had already 10 years of experience before BM, 10 years of learning piano, winning several singing contests, participating in tv commercials etc.
Most of their early songs are related to their life as school girls of their age. *Doki, Doki Morning* is about waking up late, deciding about the make-up, rushing to school and after school hanging around with girl friends from school.
As you already said, *Gimme Chocolate* is about the lust for chocolate and the fear of becoming fat. In a deeper sense it's about discipline and relinquishment.
*Headbanger* (in Jap. hed'o'ban 😍 ) is about a girl visiting her first metal concert at the age of about 15, her evening of coming out of age.
*Pa Pa Ya* is about a hot, spicy Thai summer food that the band members tried when touring in Thailand.
The later *Rondo of Nightmare* (@ Budokan Black Night 2017) is imo the most severe and best BM song. It's about fighting depression and at the end loosing the fight and becoming a marionette trapped in one's illness. A must watch BM song!

Great first reaction and welcome to the BABYMETAL Foxhole.🦊As you read, Kawaii Metal was pioneered in Japan in 2010 ... by BABYMETAL, they created their very own metal sub-genre.
BABYMETAL are like nothing you will have seen or heard before, they don't limit themselves to any one main style or genre and you won't be able to pigeonhole or put them in any one box like you can with virtually every other band in the world, they are one of a kind and they invented their own genre and style that nobody has been able to copy successfully (some have tried, none came close) including bringing choreographed dancing to metal (but not as you might know it from pop acts where it is nearly always used just to fill the stage or give you almost naked girls (and boys) to look at to take your mind off bland music).
BABYMETAL's choreo helps with interpreting the song - a lyric or the meaning etc, but it is designed to involve and lead the crowd, to give them their cues when to jump, shout, pump their fists, chant and so on. BABYMETAL are complete masters of crowd control and crowd involvement.
BABYMETAL are the three girls - Su-metal (lead vocalist) and Moametal and, since April 1st this year, Momometal (backing vocals, harmonies but mainly in charge of dance, leading the audience, getting everybody involved and joining in - audience participation is a huge part of what BABYMETAL are all about).
The third original member, Yuimetal, sadly left the band in October 2018 having been absent from the stage for the previous 12 months. She had ongoing (and undisclosed) health issues.
Su and Moa continued as a duo for the next 4 or 5 years, supported by 3 dancers (the Avengers) dancing in the third spot (it was the same one, Momoko, from about February 2020).
They teased the reveal of a new third member in April this year - happily it was her, so she is all mic'd up and singing as well as dancing now.
They are supported in live shows by the Kami Band - some of Japan's very best session musicians, each one of them a world class instrumentalist. They were phased in gradually from October 2012 and played at a couple of festivals and the encores in some shows.
BABYMETAL had started in 2010 with little or no budget so they sang to a backing track at the start and when they started doing their own small shows guys in skeleton suits (known as Babybones) would pretend to play the instruments.
It was them you saw in this video - there was no focus on them as they were not playing the instruments.
This video was filmed at their legend 1997 concert in December 2013 (the day after Su-metal's 16th birthday - Yuimetal and Moametal were still only 14). This was the last big show where the Babybones guys appeared - the Kami Band came on for the last 5 encore songs and at the next big shows, in March 2014, the Kami Band finally became BABYMETAL's full time support for all live shows and have been with BABYMETAL ever since - but only for live shows, they do not record the studio versions..
Kami means god or spirit, so they are the gods of guitar, bass and drums summoned from the dead to support BABYMETAL - as such they originally wore traditional white burial robes and corpse face paint. At the end of 2017 the robes were changed for black robes and since 2019 the face paint was replaced with masks (nearly everybody wants the face paint back, or for them to just get rid of the masks).
Also in 2019 the Kami Band of the West (American musicians) were introduced and they have been supporting BABYMETAL on their more extended foreign tours since then.
BABYMETAL formed in 2010 when Su was 12, Yui and Moa were 11. Kobametal (their producer) was so impressed with the vocal talents and stage presence of a young girl (Suzuka Nakamoto) when he saw her with her previous group that he thought she would be wasted in pop and could do something with the music he liked (he is a lifelong metalhead). She inspired his idea for band fusing metal with Jpop aesthetics with her fronting it as lead vocalist.
He got his chance to work with her when Su joined a newly formed group set up by the Amuse talent agency to coach and train about a dozen of the most talented 10 to 15 year old girls on their books in all aspects of entertainment (acting, singing, dancing, writing, stage management and so on) with a view to them finding what they might want to do to start or continue their careers in entertainment with Amuse when they reached 15 and would finish their compulsory education.
He set up the heavy music club as a sub-unit of the group with Su as lead vocalist and her two young friends supporting her with backing vocals, harmonies and, something not often seen in metal, choreographed dancing.
By 2013, when it was time for Su to leave the parent group since she was 15, BABYMETAL had found their own audience, so it was decided they should split from the group to be Su's vehicle as she furthered her career as a vocalist.
In 2014 they started to tour outside of Asia and Japan for the first time coming to Europe and the US and since then they have won new fans all over the world and become internationally the most successful Japanese band ever and one of the very best live bands on the planet right now - their 3rd album released in 2019 was the first by any Asian group to reach number 1 in the US Billboard Hard Rock charts.
It is BABYMETAL's success abroad that has opened the doors for so many more Japanese bands internationally.
They have nearly 70 songs now, every one of them is different. They have songs in virtually every metal genre but will mix in other musical styles and genres with the metal, often when you least expect it. Some songs lean towards their pop roots others are just good hard metal and they do everything in between - so if you don't like one song no problem - try another, the chances are you'll love it.
'Gimme Chocolate' is one of their fun songs, they have many that are deeper and more meaningful, nearly all of them are positive and uplifting or inspiring - but you will struggle to find another song that sounds like this one. Also don't worry if you don't understand the language or if the translation isn't great (although they are very good at getting the general meaning or feeling across), someone will always explain for you .... but as Su-metal once said "Don't think. Feel."

    Killa Koala,
The other commenters will explain about BABYMETAL and their origins I'm sure, but let me just say a few things and answer a couple of the specific questions you had.
First, this band has evolved into a full-fledged internationally performing powerhouse since this Gimme Chocolate!! performance was recorded. They just dropped their fourth studio album around six months ago and it is an excellent release with amazing tracks all over the song list. They just finished a US tour around mid-October and have also toured Europe and other parts of the world this year.
Second, this band basically invented their own metal sub-genre, and even now there is no one really doing what they do, at least not at the top tier and/or international level. There are Japanese musical acts that do fuse metal and J-Pop sensibilities (mostly in a niche musical genre called alternative idol or "alt-idol" - such as groups like Broken By The Scream, Bish, and Zenbu Kimi no Sei da), but most of these do not use live backing bands and are not nearly as well known outside of Japan as BABYMETAL.
Third, BABYMETAL are more than just a band - they not only combine different musical genres, but they also incorporate elements of dance, theater, and their own mythos (you will often hear reference to the FOX GOD, the god of metal that supposedly summoned BABYMETAL to spread the message of metal, and foxes feature everywhere in their shows and their deeply detailed mythology/backstory) into some of the absolute best live shows being performed by anyone on the world today - almost everyone will tell you to watch their live clips rather than music videos.
At any rate, Japan in general has THE best music scene in the world right now, and there is much to explore for a reactor. In terms of the J-Pop groups you asked about, there are many. For my money though, I would say that Perfume is the first group you would want to check out. They are very much rooted in the J-Pop world, but have a very specific style themselves, which is synthpop/electropop (in my opinion they are one of the best synthpop groups on the planet), and they are just next level. They are also part of the same entertainment management company that BABYMETAL is managed by, and they share the same choreographer as well. Their arena shows are also legendary. My recommendation for any reaction to them would be to start with their performance of their song Edge ⊿-mix (right isosceles triangle version). Here is a link to that: ruclips.net/video/L7GxbcNLMfw/видео.htmlsi=9ADuJYCfmfRe9WNG
Anyway, welcome to the BABYMETAL Foxhole. Looking forward to more reactions to them.

Well, not much to add compared to what has already been said in the comments. I will say, “genre mashing” is an understatement for Babymetal. They come from a place where genre doesn’t exist at all, in fact, they behave less like a “band” and more like a “movement”. I tell this to other people. Babymetal is a gargantuan rabbit hole (dubbed by fans as “The Fox Hole”) where you will end up stranded in a wonderland of music you never knew existed until now, and it will only continue to expand.

Hello and welcome to the Foxhole! 🤘🦊🤘
As mentioned already, the Babybones guys in skeleton costumes were actors who pretended to play instruments over backing tracks as Babymetal could not always afford live musicians.
A BABYMETAL show is not a spectator event. It is a participatory activity in which the audience has it's role in performing with BABYMETAL and their backing band, the Kami Band. This is why the fanbase is called The ONE. We are ONE with BABYMETAL and the Kamis at the shows.
They have 60+ songs and each one is unique and different.
When reacting to BABYMETAL there are only 3 rules...
    1. Expect the unexpected
    2. Expect the unexpected
    3. Always watch the video to the end or you may miss something. 😉

Well, you’ve opened a can of worms! The “WTF did I just watch” reaction is typical among first-time BABYMETAL viewers. A lot of their songs tend to get that reaction. 🙂
BABYMETAL has been around for a bit over twelve years now (they started when their lead singer - known as Su-metal (Suzuka Nakamoto) - was about twelve, and the two "cheerleaders" (or the “Greek chorus” as I like to call them - officially "scream and dance" (backing vocals)) - Moametal (Moa Kikuchi) and Yuimetal (Yui Mizuno) - were both around eleven. Unfortunately, Yui left the band in 2018, and only earlier this year Momometal (Momoko Okazaki) was named a member of the group. They do not play instruments but are backed by the Kami Band - session musicians who are among the best that Japan (and the U.S.) has to offer.
BABYMETAL started a brand new genre of music ("kawaii metal" - cute metal), and they cannot be pigeon-holed - they are almost always thinking and moving outside box; they made listening to metal FUN! They have, to date, four studio albums, and have been on a number of world tours. It is common knowledge among their devoted fans (known as "The One") that BABYMETAL is best served live, but they do have several music videos that are real works of art. If you have a notion to check out more BABYMETAL, I suggest you go back to the beginning, and react to their first two music videos, "Doki Doki Morning" and "Iine!" (pronounced "E-nay"), both released in 2012. There is a playlist on RUclips ("BABYMETAL Top Twenty") that includes those two songs and the one you just reacted to; I highly recommend you give it a look, it has a mix of MV’s and live performances, and could be considered a road map down the BABYMETAL foxhole. If nothing else, it can be used as a reference to find high quality versions of BABYMETAL songs without mucking about - if they are on the list.
Keep rockin' BABYMETAL!!! (You're in for a wild ride!)
    KITSUNE UP!!! 🤘🦊🤘

Like getting punched in the face by cuteness. I love Babymetal, not their newest stuff so much but the first 3 albums are real good. Those girls work super hard, very impressive. The band is the Kami (spirit) band and they can change. The ones on this tour were some of the best Japan had. I listen to them when I'm at work in my lab because its super upbeat and high tempo. Try "Death" "Road to Resistance" and "Headbangrr".

Like pretty much all BabyMetal songs, even this one which seems rather simple, have deeper meanings (social commentary) layered under the surface.
It has been suggested (Amuse, the producers of BM, never tell us), that the "gimmie chocolate" reference relates to the hungery kids shouting to the American GI's in the occupation after WWII to give them some sweets.

I saw them live in New York in September. It was near the end of them playing 29 shows in 44 days all across the USA and Canada. This after finishing half of their European tour in Europe a few days before they came to America. Now they are back in Europe. They are reasonably young now. They are in their mid 20's now, unlike here in this video when they were between 14 and 26 I believe. The bottom line is thst they must be in manifest shape. With that schedule and all the choreography that they do for every song. It was a great show. I am glad I got to see them.

Just to put things straight, Babymetal is the three girls, the band in this case was just hired for the video. This is a fairly old song of theirs and there is better newer work from them. The main singer SuMetal is still with them and is now 25. I think they now have a band that regularly performs with them.

If you like genre mashing then you're in luck! That is exactly what Babymetal is most known for. Babymetal is the group of 3 girls but they have a band called the Kami band. In this video the band with the skeleton costumes were not an actual band, they were only pretending to play because early on Babymetal couldn't afford a real live band. But that didn't last long after this video went viral.

Their sets are 60-120 minutes of wall to wall energy, metal and dancing; Su-Metal's breath control is unparalleled. Yeah, Babymetal makes the genre blend work pretty well. Other bands that do a good job of blending metal with other genres, include Bloodywood (metal with Hindustani folk music), Haggard (metal with Renaissance-era music), and Van Canto (metal with acapella singing).
And yes, this song is just about chocolate. Several of Babymetal's early songs dealt with everyday topics, e.g., Dokidoki Morning was literally about dragging yourself out of bed in the morning, and my favorite song of theirs, iine, if I understand it correctly, is about having a positive attitude. (I think. My Japanese is pretty marginal, and song lyrics are often harder to translate than prose, so I could easily be missing something.) Their more recent work tends to be more lyrically abstract.

Babymetal is just the three girls, the band here in this version were actors not a real band, when they do live shows they use the Kami Band which is a session band consisting of many players who rotate in and out depending on the show, location and availability, there are two different Kami Bands one in white robes and corpse paint and the Western Kami Band which are in Black robes and wear masks, this Genre of music was created by Babymetal (which is kind of what the group name means partly "the Beginning" as well Kawaii Metal), this video has the original 3 members one is no longer with them sadly due to health reasons and since her spot has added the new Member, the members are Su Metal (Suzuka Nakamoto) lead singer, Moa Metal (Moa Kikuchi) and Yui Metal (Yui Mizuno who had to leave) the newest member is Momo Metal (Momoko Okazaki) , they began in 2010 and have been going ever since, they have worked with many artists to create there songs like example Dragon Force's Herman Li, they have toured with and had on stage playing with some of the biggest names in the music industry Red Hot Chili Peppers, Judas Priest, Korn, Metallica, Bring Me The Horizon ...., that is just a brief look into that which is Babymetal it would take far too long to type out the full look into them, and to your question there are some bands who try to mimic Babymetal but No One does what they do this fusion of music and choreo is unique to only them

  • @stevechevy3382

Wlecome to the Foxhole. Nice reaction. If you really like a mashing of genres. Well, you just found what might be the ultimate mashing if genres band. Not only do they mash the music genres they also mash up the dance ones as well. Babymetal one stop shopping of all things musical. They've done really big Epic level shows and some shows that even go beyond that. They can get heavy intro the stage theatrics. But they also like to do small scale shows so they can get close to the audience, and no one gets a bad view. You'll see. Babymetal have gone out of their way in the big shows to give folks in the nosebleed seats a treat. As fun and Kawaii as this song is. It's not all fun and games. Watch at the start of the song Yui and Moa have their hands in gun shapes and are making to what amounts to the sound the kids in Japan use for gun noises. They're not asking for chocolate. They're demanding it. LOL. and you are right that part in near the start where it looks like Su-metal (lead vocalist) is controlling Yuimetal and Moametal. Their hands are up to their eyes like they're looking through binoculars. These three are on the hunt for chocolate. When they finally do eat it. They're so happy they start to trumpet about it. You can see that in the choreography and hear it a bit in the music. Babymetal is the whole package and more. Enjoy your journey through the Foxhole and into the Babymetal galaxy of music. See YOU.

    👍 👍
Don't be fooled by this they are so much more.
BabyMetal began in 2010 there were Suzuka Nakamoto age 12 Moa Kikuchi and Yui Mizuno. Both Moa and Yui were 11 years old All three girls were friends and classmates who attended an idol school/group (Sakura Gakuin) founded in 2010 by Amuse Talent Agency for girls 10 to 15. Themed around school life (they attended regular school as well) the girls would learn and train at vocals, dancing, public speaking and etiquette, etc., graduate at age 15 and then move onto whatever entertainment path they chose or that suited their talents.
Key Kobayashi was a music producer for Amuse and heard Suzuka sing at age 9 and was impressed with her strong vocals and stage presence. Kobayashi was a fan of heavy metal but believed that the genre had become stale and tired (especially in Japan) with metal bands getting old Kobayashi believed the genre needed to be reborn (BabyMetal means the birth of a new metal genre). Kobayashi felt that Suzuka had the ability to front a metal band and that her vocals and presence could withstand the metal guitars and drums. The fusion of Jpop and Metal began. He placed Moa and Yui as backup singers/dancers and a phenomenon was about to result.
At first Amuse showed no interest and the girls had only financing from Kobayashi. They performed at strip malls and small venues using clothes borrowed from friends and family. No money for a real band they had friends dressed in homemade skeleton costumes pretending to play instruments to a backtrack. They became a sensation (these young ladies paid their dues). Amuse saw the potential and in 2012 hired the best session musicians Japan had to offer (The Kami Band) who tours with them today (now includes world class musicians from the USA for tours outside of Asia).
If you choose to explore more of BabyMetal I suggest reacting to LIVE performance videos as this is where they shine.
They have over 60 LIVE songs/performances and each one is different. They are fearless exploring many genres and have the respect of the legends of Metal such as Metallica, Slipknot, Rob Zombie, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Judas Priest and more.
Avoid Glastonbury LIVE performances as the sound production by the BBC (who was in charge of that festival did a terrible job - mics not turned on, incorrect volume levels, etc.)
Suggest reacting to these HQ Pro Shot videos of LIVE performances for a start.

Nice first reaction! 🤘🦊🤘 Thank you for giving BABYMETAL a chance!!! BABYMETAL is a Japanese kawaii (cute) metal group (a metal subgenre that they created) that formed in 2010 when the 3 girls were 11-12 years old (yes, they were very young), and since then have performed with, toured with, or opened for Metallica, Korn, Sabaton, Bring Me The Horizon, Dragonforce, Guns N' Roses, Lady Gaga, Rob Halford of Judas Priest (there's a great youtube video of their performance with Rob at a metal award show), and Red Hot Chili Peppers (there is a youtube video of them performing Gimme Chocolate with RHCP, as well as with Korn, and DragonForce), to name a few of many. They have performed at large metal events/concerts in front of 65,000+ skeptical metalheads in Europe (Glastonbury, Download, Sonisphere, etc), US, and Asia. They are the first Japanese band to perform at Wembley arena in the UK. Also, 20+ awards have been given to them. They have 60+ songs and each one is different from the other, so I hope you give the other songs a try. By the way, they have some really great heavy songs too, and I hope you like guitar solos, as well as bass and drum solos, like I do, because they have them too. Also, they are currently on another world tour that included many dates here in the USA, and released a new amazing album just a few months ago! They also just released a new music video for their song called "Metali" that features Rage Against The Machine's Tom Morello.

Thank you for picking a Japanese song.
BABY METAL has a lot of good songs and good live footage,
Japan has a wide variety of music, songs, and artists. and Japanese music is very diverse.
Until recently, Japanese artists had a language barrier and the Japanese domestic market was too big(The Japan music market is the second biggest in the world,) so they were not actively selling overseas, that's why most of the artists are not known outside of Japan, so there are still great finds.
I sometimes see people searching for Japanese music by genre on RUclips.
In Japan, it is often the case that music is neither produced nor listened to by genre.
That's why I think it's difficult to search for Japanese music by genre.
But that is also the good thing about Japanese music.
Recommended for finding Japanese music other than live videos and MVs.
"THE FIRST TAKE" is a representative Japanese music content on RUclips where you can find various types of Japanese music.
Another thing that may be helpful. In Japanese music, lyrics are an integral part of the song. They are quintessential. Recently, Japanese music videos seem to have English subtitles for the lyrics. You may find it more enjoyable to listen to the song with English subtitles (CC) but Not all Japanese song lyrics are translated but you may them interesting. Unfortunately, "baby metal" does not have a subtitle.
please, discover more Japanese music. maybe you already know…Thank you for picking a Japanese song.

I have to give you your props I’ve watched many people react to the song and many many many other BABYMETAL songs I actually am a drummer and love different genres of music from one Dale to the other side but I’ve never seen anyone notice and comment at the very beginning of this video how Su metal was actually controlling Yui and moa I actually even heard someone say she was being lazy which really didn’t make me happy because when I watch this video the very first time I noticed was su the leader of the group was doing. Also if you start watching more videos you’ll see the real bands especially when they perform live they are really really really good the ones to look for in my opinion are the best are the ones wearing white robes face make up and very long hair on a couple they also have other session bands that wear a mask but never lost their music the girls love and passion that they produce and get the crowd really going is phenomenal seriously if you want to fall down the foxhole like I did I listen to three songs and haven’t stopped loving them since my first song with Megitzune. Second gimme chocolate. Third and my favorite headbanger. But I love many many more songs from them and they truly appreciate their fans

The lyrics you mentioned are correct. I've seem some speculate that it also references the US soldiers after WWII when children would ask them for chocolate, hence Moa and Yui's "Zukyun"/"Dokyun" (the sounds of bullets zipping through the air) and making a gun with their hands. I'm sure the writer can clarify.
Has anyone ever suggested you look like Sandra Bullock?
    Cheers!

Pretty accurate. I like how positive their lyrics are, compared to a lot of other metal bands. A lot center around female self-empowerment, having courage to be yourself and blaze your own path, etc.

there are other J-Pop metal bands, but I find none do it as well as Babymetal, others doesn't fuse it so perfectly I find. A good example is Band-Maid. Don't get me wrong, Band-Maid are really good. Only, they are less a fusion of two genres and more a rock/metal band led by all females that could have been (and probably were) in a j-pop band. Babymetal you can hear the two different genres at the same time making this unique perfect fusion of awesomeness.

Yeah I need to dive into J-Pop deeper, but I also wouldn’t have thought Band-Maid was a fusion of J-Pop and metal. Just more rock/metal.

    Gimme Chocolate:-
Old school Thrash Metal. Combinations of Metallica "Fight Fire With Fire" and Slayer "Raining Blood". Heaviest, Brutal song about Chocolate. React to the song on late night show with Stephen Colbert. Old school metalheads can appreciate the metal, younger audience can appreciate the J Pop with a very catchy chorus. "Babymetal" is a visual band like "X Japan 🇯🇵". This video features of the original BABYMETAL Trio "The Trinity" of Suzuka Nakamoto aka Su-Metal, Yui Mizuno aka Yuimetal and Moa Kikuchi aka Moametal. Yuimetal left Babymetal in 2018 due to an undisclosed medical issue. Momoko Okazaki, one of the Avenger dancers, and former member of Sakura Gakuin), joined Babymetal as the third core member in April 2023, under the stage name Momometal.

Another Japanese band I would recommend is Band Maid. All girl band who perform dressed as maids.

People asked Babymetal 'what is your music?'. They said Kawaii Metal. They invented the genre and named it. Nobody has to like Babymetal but they are unarguably original.
Well, Babymetal described themselves as Kawaii Metal around 2013 to 2015. I think their first idea was 'Heavy Metal Dance Unit'. I haven't heard them say Kawaii Metal in a long time either. They're grown up now. This video is almost 10 years old.

Band-aid - From now on music video
(BabyMetal open the door for most of not all other bands after them, all female band including the instrument players)

Very nice reaction. Babymetal is pretty cool. However, I suggest Wagakki Band. If you're even remotely interested in Japanese art, you'll find it mixed with Western rock music there. I think it's best to start with this Wagakki Band:鏡花水月(Kyoukasuigetsu)+月に叫ぶ夜(Tsukini sakebuyoru). Wagakki Band is best live.

For Jpop i recommend 'Idol' by Yoasobi. Idol broke nearly every record for a Japanese song. 369 million views in 7 months. For Jpop/Metal fusion i recommend Hanabie 'Be the GAL'.
