Agree. The “live” video misses half the song so lyric version for sure!
Of course, we all learn how to count. I don't know who these "people" are suggesting that there's any other way to watch these, but I don't trust them!
I actually do think that they exist/belong in order. I'd consider this one an "introduction" or overall concept... 2nd goes to money and power, economy, global, etc...3 is personal. I really feel they roll better in order, even though there is a bit of overlap of the themes I mentioned in each.
Not to be needlessly contrary, but most definitely DO do the 'other one' of part 2 (the acapella/poetry one on Brighton beach) after the lyric video. It's really something amazing in it's own right, and it's indicative of the wonder of his live acoustic versions of his own songs.
The people with their heads covered are part of the Money Game. Ren's character wants to punish them for their crimes, but he can't do it because he begins to realize he is just as guilty. The eyes, for me, let the captive see what's going on and also gives the victim more of a face that humanizes him and Ren finally realizes that he to has to be punished for being a part of the money game.
Whoever told you not to watch them in order is a nutcake. Trust your instincts.
Just reading off a screen itself is so invigorating, just imagine REN spitting a million words and also in one take, what a Legend,,,
I saw Money Game Pt. 1 and my mind was blown. Rens way of painting a picture with his words is truly one of a kind. Part 2 is even better imo... And then there is part 3... Lets just say it transcends all of Rens work before in my opinion. The video was like a whole stage show on Broadway, the lyrics clever, the music amazing, the message behind it all sincere and deep. You are gonna love it!

I feel the eyeballs are an added visual commentary on how we dehumanize people...Romain is just another faceless person until Ren puts eyes on the bag which suddenly humanizes him...making Ren unable to carry through on hurting him.

I don't think I heard anyone mention that before, but it makes sense. I always wondered why Ren stopped dousing Romain at that point and turned the gas can on himself. It's like Ren is saying when you let some light in (the eye holes, the light of understanding or seeing how things really are), the whole system starts to break down. It's interesting that Romain held up his guitar as a defense. Yes--there's great power in music, as Ren has often said. 🤠

My take (after much thought)

Ren: Authority, The Establishment, Control, The System.
Symbolically protected from the rain, the storm, by the poncho.

"The Figure": "Us". The Population, literally "playing along", obeying instructions.

Then we get to the Politics... (Written "Peak Trump", hence immigration, "freedom of speech" vs "hate", etc)

A reference to the political system, both sides working for their collective benefit.

"There's no Left, There's no Right.... In the middle, "we" sleep".
.
But what happens if the population realises what is happening? Gains "sight"
(Eyes).
.
Then, those running the System have a dilemma.

"Burn" the population,
or
Systemic change/ collapse

The poncho removed, the system "burns"

Here's my take; along with factual statements made by Ren & others, on the messaging & performative aspects of Money Game Parts 1. Hope this helps you in absorbing the overall message Ren is portraying.✌❤
Part 1: Is in a similar format to Ren's Tale of Jenny & Screen & Hi Ren, which can be considered live performance pieces that are shot in 1 take.🤯 Ren has commented that this was his first attempt at this style of one take video production & it took them almost 180 takes to get this shot right especially with all the choreography & music involved. In essence, Ren is introducing everyone to all the hypocrisy in the west & the seeds that have been sown around the world that created this money game & how we all live blind to it daily, with a metaphorical money bag tied around our heads. 💰🤑💰Ren portrays the character of Judge, jury & executioner for those who are blinded by the money game & the corruption that steams from the greed of everyone involved in it. He even draws eyes on the bagman to help him see his own errors & that of society's. When Ren attempts to carry out the final death sentence, the bagman's eyes reflect back to Ren reveling his own complacency in this MG (Hold the mirror to ourselves, we're all part of this old money game). The end carries a double meaning, 1) like a Buddhist Monk Ren burns himself in effigy as a protest & 2) This act of burning represents how we are all, as a society, just dooming ourselves in the end. Like Ren's lyrics conveyed earlier (As the world turns, the whole world burns). Can't wait until you hear 2 & 3, but make sure you do the lyric version of MG 2 because the live is incomplete with only the last verse he was just rehearsing.

Yes, I think the eyes are him opening people's eyes.
My take on the ending of the music vídeo is that when he says "the whole world burns" he also talking about the opressor world, so when greed makes the whole burn, he is burning himself too.

I think Ren setting fire to himself is to symbolise that extreme change is needed by the powers that be. great reaction, i see the masked guy is the oppressor, he draws eyes on him to say look we know what your doing but do you, he then decides to burn the oppressor but before he does he comes to the realisation that he himself is part of the money game and it is himself that is to blame, as a heads up on money game part 2, there is 2 vids, one live and the other a lyric vid, the live is good but for maximum effect watch the lyric vid , it is longer and more impactful than the live one.

YOU were right.
Ren is the master at saying so few words and getting complete meanings and ideas across. In other words what many people have to explain with paragraphs, Ren can summarize in a few words. Yes he packs a lot of words into some of these videos that explains what others would need a whole book to explain. That is a gift and a talent people don't really think about, I hear so few that can actually do it. See how many words I needed to explain that. 😆

With Ren everything is open to interpretation, he purposely leaves open every door and gives multiple meanings to his choices.
For example he’s been asked many times what’s the pig’s meaning and he always answers something like: whatever means to you 🙂
Funny fact he says it took something like 137 takes to shoot this video, just to say that pretty nothing is casual…
Sam, the videographer said 183 cos it was their first time performing in one take.

My take, after multiple views, is that by drawing on the eyes he opened our eyes, and that allowed us to see, and block what was happening. The world still burns.
People who tell you you don't have to do them in order and talking out of their arses. Always follow Ren's numbering, they are numbered for a reason.
He couldn’t see a gun to his head or a baseball bat. Then he has to watch.
We renegades probably have seen this 100s of times. The Ren One-takes are brimming with Easter eggs, you just have to accept that there is no way to catch them all, not unless someone gave you a full list with time and place on screen coordinates. That is a bit of the beauty of it. You will still catch new things in weeks and months revisiting if you care.

The wind blowing was more happen stance than hidden meaning. It does emphasize that this was a live one take… filmed near the beach. // While Ren’s immense talent is on display, this video is also a testament to the passion & hard work his team puts into their work as this video took countless takes before they finally landed this final take.

No added effects, this was recorded live in one take. The “effects” were natural ambient noises.

Fun fact - it took about 185 takes to nail it. I believe he's wearing a money sack on his head, symbolizing being enslaved by money literally, and perhaps he's patronizing him until he realizes he's part of the problem himself.
I think there's a lot of room for interpretation in this one. The eyes, to me, are pretty close to the last thing you mentioned about them. Ren seems to be representing the oppressor with his actions, but also acting as a narrator with his words.
The eyes, as I interpret them, represent the opening of our own eyes as the oppressed. He's enlightening us as individuals with this song, so it could be that. I also think it's commentary on us collectively opening our eyes since it seems we're becoming more aware as a society of what's going on, and also becoming increasingly more vocal about how we feel about it.
This one is so good, and so rich with symbolism for us to interpret for ourselves! A lot of Ren's music is like that, though. So personal to him, but written in a way that gives us room to interpret it in light of our own experiences.

Yes, so well said! I totally agree. My favourite part about art is that you can interpret it based on your own feelings and experiences. But I definitely saw it the way you did! A few people commented about the masked figure being the oppressor, and Ren representing the oppressed which was so interesting and totally flipped the script for me. I can see it both ways now! Very cool.
The end; essentially Ren realizes we are *all* part of the money game. An echo of "Hi Ren" "Gotta kill you, if you want to kill me"

The person in the chair represents a capitalist avatar on trial for the money game, and as Ren's character is about to punish him, he realizes that he is just as guilty.

This is my fav out of the 3, but the 3rd one is visually amazing and always brilliant ...well...because it's Ren!, he just released a new vid too. 😊, all his videos are like mini movies, he would be such a great dramatic actor!
Great reaction. You put in a lot of work to make sense of this video. It's the most ambiguous in the series. Maybe the eyes drawn on "sack man" represent our distorted perception from inside the money game, based on the lines "our opinions aren't our own and we follow like sheep - there's no left, there's no right, in the middle we sleep". I think the money sack over people's heads represents the money game itself (i.e. the game of power, wealth, and status, with scores tracked in units of money). I suggest reacting to "Crucify Your Culture" and "All My Life" after "Money Game, Pt. 2". They're related to the series, and sack man shows up again. Then finish with "Money Game, Pt. 3".

The thing about Ren is there are absolute themes and parts that are completely open to interpretation, deliberately. I think u threaded that needle well, and identified both with extreme intelligence, trust your instincts and should be fine!!

Oh my gosh thank you for saying this! I feel like other perfectionists really get it. I struggle with it more on certain things, but I’m definitely trying to let it go in all areas! And I agree, Ren requires more than one listen anyway. 🤍

So the way i have seen the symbolism in the video its Ren and the Hostage and Ren is tying to explain to the Hostage the Game. The Hostage is not just Ren's hostage but a hostage to the Money Game and as the song goes on he humanizes the Hostage with eyes but also the hostage becomes aware of the Money Game after it is explained. The hood also staying on shows that he is still stuck in the Money Game and beholden to it but at least aware. Ren not pouring the gas on the Hostage comes from the humanization and Ren internalizing that he is also part of the Money Game.
That's just how i interpreted it.
I understand your frustration of wanting to balance giving a genuine first watch, initial reaction WITH your own desire to give a more nuanced impression after giving a performance time to sit and/or multiple watches. 🙏🏻
To that end, maybe consider filming yourself watching straight through the first time to catch your Initial response… and if something warrants further consideration simple state you are pausing. Then when you come back after time to think or additional watches, you can simple tack on the second half of your reaction.
It’s also possible to add time codes in your video description to delineate the sections.
Either way… my perspective is you are already providing personal insights. Yet the mort comfortable you are not feeling “put on the spot” the easier your own self judgement might be.

personally, i feel like ren is playing the part of judge and romain represents the system. when he puts eyes to the system he realizes he can't destroy it so burns himself as a protest (like the monk emulations of the 70's).

As you mentioned it, it's almost impossible to catch everything in the first time. I don't think it's the best thing to make too many pause because you can just try to guess. Watch it, then give your interpretation. Reading many comments on different reaction channels, we like to see your emotions watching it for the first time because every time it's between a slap in the face to an uppercut from Myke Tyson ! 😜
Then it's time to tell us what you felt, thought...at different time. And even for you it's better, because every time it's a different experience to watch Ren and Sam work.

For me drawing the eyes represents giving the masked player the ability to see he is playing the Money Game. Yet, the player then continues to play the Money Game tune, so Ren decides to burn him. Then, turning the mirror at himself, Ren realizes he’s still part of the Money Game, so the only way out is to burn himself in protest of the Money Game, the way Buddhist monks did in Vietnam, in protest of the war and losing their freedom to practice their faith.

What was the fuel about? It builds to a metaphor.... But initially I think it's about the blame, frustration and wanting to burn down a greedy broken system. But... _"We're ALL part of this old money game"_ and _"It's easier to blame, but point the mirror at ourselves..."_ ... WE!... OURSELVES!... He's saying that you can try to burn it down, but at the end of the day you're just as much a part of it as those you might 'blame'
It ain't the money... it ain't the immigrants... it ain't the docile masses... it ain't even those in power... it's ALL of us. And whoever or whatever we'd prefer to lay blame on, isn't helpful.
I believe he draws the eyes because throughout the piece he's desperately trying to wake us all up... the hood represents the sleeping masses. He wants to make us see the game. Let us see that we're complacent, we're responsible, we're part of this eff'd up greedy world. It exists BECAUSE of us and our inaction. But... for all his frustration with the sleeping and complicit masses, he knows that he too is a part of it. So, who is HE to get angry at others? It is ALL of us. But it's also him. The end sequence appears to be the stark realisation that he/us is to blame.
That's how I understood it.
It seems to be about how we unjustly externalise frustration and blame. And, in doing so, we commit violence - real or conceptual, against others.
For me, the ending appears to be a nod to Thích Quảng Đuc ... a Buddhist monk who committed suicide by ritual immolation, in a busy street in Saigon, to protest persecution of Buddhists. His selfless act lit the touchpaper which ultimately toppled the S. Vietnamese regime. But if this IS a nod to TQD, then I'm not sure how it fits in - other than as a shorthand for powerful yet selfless acts that can bring about change.
Such acts needn't be violent ... they can be as small as giving a smile to a stranger. But in this, the world is changed - even if just one heart at a time.
Just my 2c, I may be way off.

So close... If you shift your perception that ren is the repressor to Judge/Jury/Executioner then you will soon realise that the person in the chair is society blinded by the money game (money bag over head). Ren confronts society with a list of crimes but each time he goes to judgement and execution (rope, hand gun, bat, petrol) he is reminded that 'we're all part of this old money game' finally he tries to open the eyes of society. But this humanises society and he has no choice but to judge and execute himself.

When you do part 2 make sure you do the lyrics video not the live version. The only live version is actually only about half the song. The lyirc video is the full song ans its so much better quality.
The end is representative of the Tibet monks that sat down legs crossed in meditation and then poured fuel on themselves and lit themselves on fire in protest to the Chinese tyrannical government. There are famous photos in time magazine of these monks completely calm yet completely on fire and dying.Rage against the machine used that same famous photo on the cover of their first album. It was a horrible and true event that happened

I'm *thinking* that you've got it backwards. Ren is Ren. The captive is a player in the Money Game (you'll see why I think that when you see Part 3). The Money Game is about greed, not oppression. So, why does Ren back off and do himself instead? Because he's realised that he's a player too.
The ambient sounds like wind, etc. are natural because he is mic'd up. This is a live performance. 🤷♂️
Yeah! But he does live performances in a lot of his videos, and there isn’t always a ton of ambient noise. Plus when you process the sound afterwards, there are ways to eliminate that noise etc. So it felt more deliberate to me, that’s all!

So the affect isn't added it was recorded live. Also historically he is wrong Rome didn't colonise Britain they colonised England and Wales they tried to colonise scotland but kept failing that why there is a wall called hadrians wall
