Have had mine for about a month now. 530 miles to date. De-restricted the variator and air intake (like a C3). Got a little more pep and top end, but not a white knuckle ride in the least (hey it is 50cc). Loving it. Oh and the MPG........... 129 with 90% of the time at full throttle. Top speed is 41 mph consistently and an occasional 43mph. No real hills here to mention, but the ones I have encountered have been no problem.

You're right. Going up hills drops performance significantly. I would say, it is hard to push it to 40 km/h. Yet it is so solid, comfortable, dependable and roomy that I am still glad I bought it. To go to a 125cc, we need a full motorcycle license and that's the reason some stick to 50cc with a limited speed motorcycle license.
Iam Irish don't be afraid to get a motorcycle license it's as simple as making an appointment.

I'm 220 and ride w. my wife on the back of my 50cc Zuma. It's the 2T , and it will go over 30 on flat ground w/o a problem.

I bought a HUGE bicycle basket and with 4 hose clamps mounted it on the back of the bike on the carriage thingy. I can go to the grocery store and buy a huge amount of stuff and put it in the back basket, not to mention the helmet thingy in the middle. I know I exceeded the maximum weight, but for $2,000 and 135MPG it's insane not to have one. By the way, all of my neighbors drive $60,000 pickup trucks and drive roughly a mile to buy the same amount of groceries. And spend 10 minutes looking for a parking space. Laugh at me all you want, but I am saving crap loads of money and not paying huge property tax on a gas guzzling, earth destroying, polluting, giant piece of metal and glass just so I can stay air conditioned and look wealthy. CONSPICUOUS CONSUMPTION!
I had a Chevy 1500 lifted 6 inches on 38s for Cape Lookout National Seashore but really I feel morally good riding the Zuma. Like I'm trying to make up for years of spewing pollution.... It's never too late to change our ways.
Yes it's ok for flat roads at 60-63km/h but try going uphill...not recommended . I recently upgraded to 2013 Yamaha Zuma/BWS 125cc. It's fast.

I am not a small man, 5. 11, and 287 p. Would you make a vid on the Zuma 125? As that is the logical choice for a scoot from Yamaha. ( also not a rich man either) so the zuma is in my price range.

I bought the 2013 50F last Oct and I must say that I am not impressed with it at all. It's dangerously slow going uphill and you will experience many impatient drivers behind you. I bought it because they stated the scooter will have no problem going up the hill when they tested the 2012 model in San Fransisco hill areas. I bought the 2013 at $3079 MSRP before tax and freight/pdi. Not impressed when Yamaha dropped the price.
Were you going up very steep hills? I just bought a "new" 2012 and your post has made me nervous. Does it do well on relatively flat roads?

Yamaha should have stayed with the 2 cycle 50cc, and been the only Japanese company making a 2 cycle 50. I cant live with the trade off, when my 2008 2 cycle wares out I will be buying a european or Korean 2 cycle. Yamaha really dropped the ball not making a 2 cycle any more.
