Thanks drewdown2000. I too was torn between the Ruckus and the Zuma. I ended up buying a bike like yours, same color. I found one second hand. It was a 2006, had 1650 kms on it, paid $1600 plus tax. I just love this thing. I bought it October 1st and have already added another 1200 kms to the odometer. I added a Givi storage trunk ($100). I am amazed at all the groceries I can stuff into this bike. Much more practical than the Ruckus. I can take my kids on it too. Thanks again.
Thanks for the review. Just bought the same year and color today. 15 years later! In excellent condition, only 300 miles. Glad I got it over a ruckus. Love the review
정원우 I responded fast to your reply with looking at the other comments but the 2018 yes I have one as well and here it is we’re in 2019 and my Zuma 2018 Rides and taken some scary and must I say ugly pot hole 🕳 and it’s still standing yes restricted 4 stroke but it rides real nice. I might start another RUclips channel or maybe a blog but to me 2018 rides nice now on gas I like to keep it on full so I have road close to E that was scary but her it got me to and from never had to walk it. I don’t pop no wheels none of that I take care of my machine and it takes care of me. Love this Zuma should’ve went for this bike a long time ago. I wasted over $3,000 in purchasing my 1st to my last before getting the Zuma 50 2018 still have it. I beam thinking about getting it destructed but afraid of running into repair problems down the road like the belt coming off or something like that. I am alone when it comes to that so please share your story with your bike love to hear from all of you all maybe I can help out others when the ask me about any years of the Zuma 4 stroke or 2 stroke.
Great video, Drew! I have owned many a motorcycle in my time, and I can say the scoots pretty much outclass them all! Really enjoyed the vid... you should do more! 5 star!
i was initially set on getting the honda ruckus like you, but it's more expensive and offers less than the zuma (only plus was the cool design). i'm pretty pumped for my zuma, i was getting sick of public transport
I must have overpaid here in Cook county Il, but Im happy with my Zuma, exact same as yours. I have 200+ miles on it, take it to work whenever weather permits, 10 miles each way. A word of advice for anyone interested, the Zume tops out in a flat at about 38-40. Thats WITHOUT wind resistance, or hills. Drive the route you will take in a car and keep it under 40, if you get the finger a lot, you probably want to look at a zuma 125, which I hear goes about 60 mph tops. Good luck!
Are you asking me, or the author of the video? I personally didn't do any modifications, happy with it as it is! BTW my trunk is much bigger than his, as the gas tank was moved down below, and no oil is needed.
Do the throttle mod. It's worth it. There's a little rubber restrictor in the air filter box intake that's easy to remove as well. I run 45 psi in my tires. The increased tire pressure reduces rolling resistance a lot. My '08 cruises at 38-40 mph with just these mods. Every mile gets better as they break in, too.
Easy with a dremel tool. Careful where the metal chips go. Google it. Tons of pictures out there. I'd suggest bumping up the tire pressure, too. Good luck. Nice bike!
I got mine for $2000. I'm in 1500 miles. And you should think about modifying the carburator(makes it have a top speed of 45mph instead of 35mph). Gotta love the zuma
This is the exact same bike that I have. I crashed mine in the back of a car, I went through the back window I broke my femur and had 30 stitches in my face. The bike is heavily damaged but still works.
I'm looking at buying a Yamaha C3 or Zuma. Both have their appeals, but which bike will I enjoy more if I'm the type of person who wants something that has a bit of performance and fun in it? I like a quick and agile.
It's 123mpg estimate, but from what I have read, it only gets 80-90. The Honda scooters seem to get as good, or better than the estimate, but this one just looks so awesome. Someone, please correct me if I am wrong. I would love to see some actual mpg data too.
Hi from England, Thanks for posting the video, it looks a great starting bike. I've been looking at getting a Yamaha 125cc scooter I have to decide between the Yamaha Cygnus or the Vity now.
@funnybone16 Go for Yamaha they make some good stuff, you could have a 4 stroke from China, was it air cooled? I don't belive the Vino would let you down. Are you getting the Zuma in the end?
so do you have to refill the oil often? or is it like a 4-stroke engine where you have to change the oil once in a while until it gets dirty.. im not sure if i should buy the yamaha C3, the Yamaha Zuma, or the Honda Ruckus..
@@karlblackman4120 Gosh, that seems like a lifetime ago! Kallistobone was an old account of mine. Shortly after watching this video, I purchased a Honda Ruckus because I couldn't find a BWS. I rode the hell out of it for a year and loved every minute of it. Nowadays I prefer my classic cars but I'll never forget my first scooter!
MSRP is $2199 Dealers try to get you with the extra fees and such. But for example if they did let it go for $2199, they're profit is only a few hundred dollars to be honest. I was lucky enough to get a smokin' deal of $2149 out-the-door. Average prices though, definitely shoot for around $2300-$2500
The web site says that these things have enough room for two people on the seat, But do you know if it is good for the engine or will the engine wear out faster with that much more weight.
Hello, i was interested in buying a scooter like this one (or similar 49 cc) but i wanted to register it here in NJ. Doest it classify as a motorcycle or as a moped?
The ruckus is better built being a honda but my enduro is an old yamaha and its never let me down. Personally I would get the zuma as it has a cargo space under the seat for helmet and stuff the ruckus does not. The zuma is also fuel injected don't have to mix gas and oil.
I have an 2 elites and a ruckus. I love the Ruckus but unfortunately its my dads. Im thinking about getting and older 1999 zuma. Their cheap and look really cool.
How tall are you? I've found Zuma sort of uncomfortable. When turning my knees were always in the way. Hoping Zuma 125 cc will be more "knee friendly" and I'm only 5'10"
@themomo6710 well i have a crappy air cooled 4 stroke that broke so now im getting a new 2011 zuma and yes it is air cooled but... it is a two stroke in it so it will have more power/speed i guess it depends what your body size is. im a football player i have ridden bolth the vino and zuma, vino is alot smaller and a little slower, the zuma is peppyer and is faster (with some adjustments) so its all on personal taste.
@themomo6710 well i ended up with a different moped it got a Peirspeed r50x ALOT better then a zuma i love it i put 24 miles on it and i just brought it home. you should look into those.
Too slow for regular road use, speed limit is 45 around here, my guess is that would be good for someone living and working on a college campus in a stop-and-go city.
@themomo6710 I just saw another queation you had it is very unlikely to over heat unless you run it for 10 hours straight (impossibe due to gas tank size) but no unless there is a problem, it will not over heat. but yes i am reccomending the zuma due to expereance i have ridden the Vino, Metorpolotin, MotoFinos, kymco, and my crappy brand eurospeed and if you ever see Eurospeed on a moped go up to it pop the tires, tip it over and beat it to shit. if you dont you will be sorry :)
I wish I had a little more info to think . If I had, I would have gotten a Zuma. Mostly for the storage. I got to my Honda dealer. Saw the Ruckus, and, it's like I was kicked in the head. Honestly it looked like a guys scooter. So does the Zuma, but, I didn't even know about the damm thing. Now, i'm hearing things like, the zuma doesn't have a lot of leg space. You can't trick it out like a ruckus. Etc. I'm happy with my Scoot, And if I wanted more power, I would buy a higher cc model Ride safe
thats a 50cc modell am i righ?? i rent a 125cc modell when i was in turkey and i had never red a scooter before and that shit was fast as in hell!! if you moved the gas to fast you would get up to 80-90!
I'm not buying anything I can't get to the engine and work on. At some point YOU WILL have to work on the engine. Or with nothing in the middle of the bike I can't clamp my legs around to keep my ass from sliding off the seat in a wreck or falling off. I've seen too many people wreck on scooters sliding into an intersection because teh wasn't enough wheel patch gripping the road, and fly right off the seat. If you survive, all that fairing gets scuffed the hell up.
Thanks drewdown2000. I too was torn between the Ruckus and the Zuma. I ended up buying a bike like yours, same color. I found one second hand. It was a 2006, had 1650 kms on it, paid $1600 plus tax. I settled on the Zuma LOL it's far superior to the Ruckus. And im a big fan of both companies but Yamaha definitely wins this one.
What a nice guy. Scooters rock.
Anyone here 2018?
I’m little bit lonely here.......
Can’t believe this video is actually from 2008. Damn that’s 10 years ago

This video actually made me buy a Yamaha Zuma, a 2012 model!
Great video, Drew! I have owned many a motorcycle in my time, and I can say the scoots pretty much outclass them all! Really enjoyed the vid... you should do more! 5 star!
You must live in Canada. Me too. I bought a second hand BWS, black with red flames, last month. Best $1600 I've ever spent.
I just bought one!:)

Awesome video. A guy is really cool. Backpack or 12-pack is an INSTANT CLASSIC!!!!!!!!!!!
@talharaza actually that is the yamaha scooter trademark. One light is for normal, the other is for brights.

"Stick your backpack your 12pack whatever you want down here" hahaha
In the UK the Honda Ruckus you speak of is called the Honda Zoomer so I guess the Yamaha Zuma must have to have a different name over here too???
I like this ped better than the Ruckus because you don't have to keep your stuff in a back pack.
How is it doing since the video??
thanks.
Zuma is pretty nice but check out the Zuma 125 cc, has a lot more pep.
This is the exact same bike that I have. I crashed mine in the back of a car, I went through the back window I broke my femur and had 30 stitches in my face. The bike is heavily damaged but still works.
good review over an overall moped product, not many reviews on youtube like this :)

Wonder what the breaks sound like now.
No.
It's a 2 stroke, but it has a separate oil tank for direct oil injection.
Thanks for the review, I'm looking at getting one. Does it have a kickstart?
Yes they do
@@karlblackman4120 Gosh, that seems like a lifetime ago! Kallistobone was an old account of mine. Shortly after watching this video, I purchased a Honda Ruckus because I couldn't find a BWS. Do you have to mix oil and gas for this baby to run? i understand it is a 2-stroke engine..?
Yes it does have a kick start
yeah i am looking in getting one... but here in california what are the requirements as far as the license? thankx
The web site says that these things have enough room for two people on the seat, But do you know if it is good for the engine or will the engine wear out faster with that much more weight.
according to how much they weigh.
hey where did you get that cool helmet?
depends on wind conditions, road degree.... on a strait road no wind, u hit around 36-40MPH 65-70 KM
@talharaza Its a safety feature... one of the lights is always on
nice review -- heading out to buy a used one right now -- cheaper than any ruckus
Hello, i was interested in buying a scooter like this one (or similar 49 cc) but i wanted to register it here in NJ. Doest it classify as a motorcycle or as a moped?
I find it really interesting that you are reviewing a scooter when you have never ridden a bike before?
showing off his new zuma, admitted he has no experience, so good of him to share.
Is that the brakes squeeking already? What a the screeching noise?
Thanks for the review!
The ruckus is better built being a honda but my enduro is an old yamaha and its never let me down. Personally I would get the zuma as it has a cargo space under the seat for helmet and stuff the ruckus does not. The zuma is also fuel injected don't have to mix gas and oil.
in virginia do u have to be a certain age or have a specific lisence on this scooter. also do u have to have insurance on it?
Is air cooled better or worse then liquid cooled engines, dose it over heat? Zuma vs Vino which one should I buy?
air cooled is better.
Zuma is forced air cooled. A fan driven off the motor blows air through a duct that directs flow to the top end.
Hoping Zuma 125 cc will be more "knee friendly" and I'm only 5'10"
very good review and video thanks a lot!
just got one... very fun!
@funnybone16 I though the opposite. What do you have?
did you do the throttle modification on this scooter? i just got one myself.... only 33mph
how old do you have to be to drive one under 50 ccs?
I just actually want to buy a 2008 Yamaha Zuma 50cc scooter as well but my plans are to make it stupid fast
What dealership did you get this from? Is it in LA?
@themomo6710 well i have a crappy air cooled 4 stroke that broke so now im getting a new 2011 zuma and yes it is air cooled but... it is a two stroke in it so it will have more power/speed i guess it depends what your body size is. im a football player i have ridden bolth the vino and zuma, vino is alot smaller and a little slower, the zuma is peppyer and is faster (with some adjustments) so its all on personal taste.
hey is this just a 50 cc zuma? or the 125
scooters rule!! no leather pants!!
@themomo6710 well i ended up with a different moped it got a Peirspeed r50x ALOT better then a zuma i love it i put 24 miles on it and i just brought it home. you should look into those.
its looks exactly like the yamaha BWS
Too slow for regular road use, speed limit is 45 around here, my guess is that would be good for someone living and working on a college campus in a stop-and-go city.
@nysk8r247 they come in blue, black, silver, and yellow - at least they have in the past; I assume they still offer all four colors.
nice dude!, how much was it?
will this make it up small hills at a decent speed?
do you need any kind of lisence to own a 50 cc zuma
Where'd you get the helmet?
@funnybone16 You have a zuma?
@metallicafannc no you do not. Just a drivers licsence.. I own a yamaha jog. Its a lot like the yamaha razz. Too much fun! :)
you need a 007 license to kill
Informative and rather hip also... thanks!
Do you need insurance on the scooter?
@funnybone16 Your joking 4 stroke vino??
Nice video. Informative. Thank you
You need to grind down the throttle cam. From the factory the throttle is locked to open up only a little over half way.
Yeah 05 and below don't have that issue
@themomo6710 yes vino is a 4 stroke
@themomo6710 ya my 4 stroke was air cooled im going to go buy a zuma today.
wait what do you do to the 09 zuma to make it push about 45?
is that scooter oil injected?
why do you guys say gas in america. Gas is not a liquid when mixed with air so therefore it should be called petrol or fuel?
@themomo6710 I just saw another queation you had it is very unlikely to over heat unless you run it for 10 hours straight (impossibe due to gas tank size) but no unless there is a problem, it will not over heat. but yes i am reccomending the zuma due to expereance i have ridden the Vino, Metorpolotin, MotoFinos, kymco, and my crappy brand eurospeed and if you ever see Eurospeed on a moped go up to it pop the tires, tip it over and beat it to shit. if you dont you will be sorry :)
How fast is it. Is it a 150cc
@talharaza One is for high beams and the other is for low.
I wish I had a little more info to think . If I had, I would have gotten a Zuma. Mostly for the storage. I got to my Honda dealer. Saw the Ruckus, and, it's like I was kicked in the head. Next step for you is a performance exhaust
@themomo6710 no not the vino i dont have one. mine was a different crappy brand.
2:26 2 bits, whatever :P looks like a cool scoot
@TouchMulaGANG its not age, if you do not posses a motorcycle license you have to get a 50cc scooter
nice scooter
i have that exact one, oh btw dtak, if your over 15 it's legal without a license
How you open the seat?
The new ones you just turn your ignition key all the way to the right, all the way left locks the handle bars.
Real men think in terms of beer always,
even as a unit of measure.
dont hate, a ruckus is dope
thats a 50cc modell am i righ??
i rent a 125cc modell when i was in turkey and i had never red a scooter before and that shit was fast as in hell!!
if you moved the gas to fast you would get up to 80-90!
dude one of your headlights is not working
lol he has tattoo sleeves!
@themomo6710 zuma air cooled are alot slower then liquid.
bad ass
@themomo6710 i get mine monday. my other moped (the 4stroke broke)
I'm not buying anything I can't get to the engine and work on. At some point YOU WILL have to work on the engine.
