- NCY Rear Shock Instillation, Review and Test on a Yamaha Zuma YW50
The Yamaha Zuma YW50 2-stroke scooter has always brought me a lot of joy and has been the subject of a lot of upgrades, some for performance and some that I thought were funny. But one thing I've never been able to solve was a reasonably priced option to upgrade the rear shock and one that actually works.

It's bout time some hardcore motorcyclists did this. Admit to loving & own a scooter. Go to Europe, Asia, South America and you'll understand the point about scooters...I wish the industry would embrace it and promote it as they are the gateway drug to full on motorcycles (sales and use)....well done CanyonChasers BRAVO. Plus it teaches motorists to be aware of motorcycles. ( not sure that I endorse non-licence, no insurance electric scooters who randomly choose what laws to obey- One minute a bicycle the next taking up a lane and being a motorcycle) And ugh....parking them in full parking spaces bugs the daylights out of me. Good Onya as they say down unda !
Even on bikes, the stock is normally preload only and that is it... but you can swap in some other bikes shocks and get damp/rebound, win win.
I had a R1 and a Zuma 125. Zuma got way more love. Scooters kick ass. Guys are too embarrassed to admit it.
I ride a SYM 250cc 2009 model.. It's a good reliable form of transport, easy to service myself or not expensive to service at the shops. Goes faster than the speed limit and just twist and go and enjoy the ride
I purchased a scooter recently as my vfr was out of action. I totally agree with you. When you have riding experience on a big bike going to a scooter or a small cc bike is sooo much fun. Highly recommended.
Right on!
I've got a stock 2005 Zuma 50, the 2-stroke model. Love it, daily driver to work everyday. Prob need to replace the back shock, seems to bottom out a good bit. Thanks for the video.
i've always said, if you don't love scooters then you don't actually love motorcycles. the mighty zuma rules! but i have to admit my Buddy 125cc 4 stroke with the basket on front is even better.
I love taking my zeos 50 2t out. It goes out more than my other bike.
All my coworkers snicker and poke fun when I ride my XMAX in to work.......they're just jealous. I think I have more fun on it than my Vstrom 1000. I miss my '87 Helix with two tone upholstery. I still regret selling my Honda Express II. A tear fell when my '86 CH80 drove away with its new owner. You've inspired me to get a Zuma and pimp it out! Just found your channel and been watching vids all day. This scooter vid made me subscribe. Thank you.
Finally a great review of this upgrade!
I have a 2019 Zuma 125 love it!!!
It’s so good to hear from someone who know a load about motor bike say motor schoolers are awesome !!! KUDOS
That slide on the Zuma was wicked sick!
🤣
I so want a Zuma!
I did a suspension upgrade to my 2012 zuma 50f yes it works better.. then after a few months ive been planned to change her to air suspension from thailand
This is of absolutely no use to me, but I will actually watch just about anything you post, FWIW.
Haha! Thank you. That's actually high praise!
You're awesome, Dave!
Good topic but I don't know why men are starting to come out of the closet now about owning a scooter. I've had one in my stable since the nineties. A scooter will embarrass a sport bike in any situation WHERE POWER IS NOT A FACTOR. I own a 250 Honda Helix for commuting in the city. It's throttle and brakes, gear selection is of no concern so no time wasted there. If a sport bike has ever beaten me blasting through a congested city I must have forgotten about it. Plus cops don't really ticket scooter riders wearing full gear.
Right! I have 2 scooters, a Yamaha Majesty 400, and a Burgman 650(and that's addition to my Honda Shadow)...they are great. Hell even 150s can keep up in city traffic speeds.
ENJ4321 ...I'm on my fourth Helix. The previous ones I have sold because I thought the grass was greener somewhere else. But I always came back to the Helix, then I'd try something else. I even once owned the Maj 400. It was fancier, more powerful and handled better than the Helix but I absolutely hated the design. It is rife with poor engineering compare to the simple Helix. And you guessed it.....I sold it to buy another Helix. I have learned my lesson, it's the Helix from now on.
@@blipco5 I even thought the Honda Big Ruckus 250cc was awesome, but the only made them for one year...and they didn't sell many of them in the USA. I have never been lucky enough to find a Helix, even though I rode a Honda Forza.
ENJ4321 ...The Honda Ruckus, though cool looking, is not as practical as the Helix for storage and weather protection. I do see one Ruckus in my area from time to time. If they do come up for sale on Craigslist they are always asking $3000-3500. If you keep your eye peeled for a Helix you can find a low mileage one for cheap still, but they are getting rare as well. Another thing to consider is highway riding. The Helix tops out at 75-77 mph while the Maj 400 will cruise at 80. There's no matching the Helix for comfort, it's a Barko-lounger on wheels.
@@ENJ4321
I bought a big ruckus new and sold it in a month…rode like crap in the rear. I now have a Zuma 50 that rides great. Been riding big bike all my life……scooters are fun!
Agree, scooters are awesome.
Nice was looking for shocks when I get to upgrade n I think I’ll wit ncy good brand. Oh n the zuma 125 the shit right lol got a 16 zuma I’m customizing I custom painted the bike my self but thanks for video
Grew up on Yamaha razz scoots! So much fun
Agreed: scooters deserve more love.
Still I can’t stand 80% of the scooterists because of the unneeded threat their lack of judgment pose to me.
It feels like they have to constantly prove the world they can go fast.
I can go fast.
But I know when to.
Hey there my friend I I have a quick question maybe you can help me out with please.I have a 2021 Rougestar50. The bike does not come with LEDs lights, do they make LED bulbs to just switch over from regular bulbs?
Does this shock gives you softer and smoother ride over speed bumps and potholes? I just bought a NAVi and found that the shock is pretty stiff from my taste. NAVi is my first bike so that I may be looking for no existing solution. I am not interested in performance enhancement. Is NCY shock a potential solution?
I'm not super familiar with the shock on the Navi, but the progressively wound nature of this shock makes the initial third of the shocks travel very plush. However, a big pothole might blow right through that part of the travel.
@@CanyonChasers
Thanks for your quick advice. I will wait for a report from person who installed this on NAVi then.
in the last year I developed a lower back issue so if I ride my BWS on the OEM shocks I get a condition like sciatica after a few days of driving. Does the aftermarket NYC shock give a smoother ride or is is more like an enhanced performance shock and gives a firm ride. Help's appreciated
Yamaha zuma and Yamaha vino 2 stroke got kinda similar engines I have a new rear shock I just got and was wondering if i could install a 2 inch longer shock if it would work with no problem
I believe it’s like the one you got the ncy one
Where can i buy or can i order and some other part of Zuma bws 100 like the head lights?
Hey bro thats bike amazing, pls say me whats number colour your weel?
I took them to the powder coat guy and asked for "red" - No color code that I'm aware of.
I want one.
Will this fit a Yamaha C3?
Can you show how to integrate the blinkers to the taillights?
You can buy cheap online Jdm Zuma bugeye taillight it’s cheap
How did you relocate the turn signals into the rear taillight?
I found the lenses on EBay. It’s a Yamaha part. Then just relocated bulb sockets into the tail light with hot glue.
@@CanyonChasers what’s the part link
I did this probably 12 years ago
My 2005 zuma 50 isn’t bad but my 2011 125 zuma is awful! It bottoms out daily
Any info on integrated headlight/signals?
I bought the orange lenses on eBay for about $7.00
CanyonChasers did the signal light wiring fit into the taillight? Sorry there’s like no info on this anywhere.
Lol good vid!
That helmet ain't gonna help you one bit with your chinstrap that loose.
Thats okay. Data shows that open face helmets don't actually help anyway since thae overwelming majority of helmet impacts are to the face.
@@CanyonChasers makes sense lol
A Japanese machine with DEFICIENT FACTORY SUSPENSION?!!
When does this not happen?!!
Uhh almost never? Don't blame it on deficient Japanese suspension. Alot of Americans (fat or not), tend to be bigger then most people in Asian countries(hence clothes sizing being usually being way different)...plus American road ways are much faster than most of the world. You know since mph vs kph, and all that. People alot of the time tend to play around with getting new suspension put on lots of bikes anyway...even European ones.
Nope!
maybe buy larger scooter or get a life, and no, you are no tom cruiser
