Just finished this. The hardest part to me was putting the pads in. It would be nice for more explanation for that.

You should grease the caliper pins while you had the caliper apart if you didnt already.
Not doing so could cause the caliper to bind, making the brakes drag.
    Great Video as always!

Excellent video, lighting and camera work. Replacing the front pads on my 2016 SYM HD 200 at 10,000 miles now. Overdue I think. My first time so thanks again for the video!!!

This video skips a critical step that is the difference from a frustratingly hard job, to a simple one: There are two slide rods, a big one on the fork side and a small one on the piston side. The piston slide rod has a bolt and comes out; TAKE IT OUT! When you are ready to put the pads in, rotate the fork side 90 degrees and insert the large slide rod on the fork into the piston. Then you put the pads in, making sure to get the clips aligned right. Then all you have to do is rotate the fork back 90 degrees, insert and bolt the small slide rod. This way getting the pads in and arranged with the clips is very easy, otherwise it's a nightmare.

Mark Wladika thank you for this. I was getting super pissed trying to figure out how the person in the video got the new pads in and made it look super simple. I followed this and finished in in 2 minutes.

Ok, great video. I got to the end of the job where you just slip the brakes on the disk and found that it was not humanly possible to do so. So I invented a tool which was just a long handled wedge made from sanding a wooden pencil. I slipped it in between the pads from the side (where there was no springy-ness) to hold the pads open, and the brakes went right on the disk.

Hey man, Great tutorial! i just finished doing the brakes on my Zuma. The only thing i would say as far as improvement is a better explanation of how the pads fit into the clip (which was took a bit of figuring, but all is well!) Maybe I'm just dense lol. Also, consider adding some audio with the subtitles, that would help even more! Thanks Again!

to answer my own question, the pin was siezed. this is probably obvious to people who are knowledgeable with these things but to anyone else like me, that was the answer.
i bled the brake fluid and brought the caliper into a scooter shop to get them to unsieze it before proceeding with the video.

hey micbergsma, first thanks for taking the time to make this video for people who need it. secondly i got up to 2:30 with no problems, however those two pieces (the silver and the gold pieces, im not sure what theyre called) are totally stuck. no amount of strength seems to pull them apart. is my brake broken or is there something i could do?
    thanks

This is a very random question, but at 1:39 you show the screw that attaches the caliper to the scooter disc. Any idea what these kind of screws are called? They are 12mm? Great video, I need to replace my caliper and will use your video as a guide! Thanks so much!

At 5:40 The brake pad is installed wrong, you can see 1/4 the piston, the pad has to be turned 180 degrees, then the piston will press correct on the pad

hmm my friend bought it at 2,229 miles and brakes didn't look good... so around that time... depend on rider who hit the brake hard or soft... I have burgman 400 and at 45,000 miles still on original pads... I am not aggressive at stopping... worth to check

Rears are drum brakes with shoes. They'll last the life of your scooter pretty much.

  • @MinecraftAventures

Your brake fluids is browns , that mean that you need to change it . When your are at the lower, it doesn't mean that is ok , you should but full .

    • @tenders
      @tenders 5 лет назад

The low level of the fluid was partially due to the worn brake pads - more of the fluid in the system is pushed out of the reservoir and stays in the caliper housing as the pads wear down. When the calipers were reset, some of the brake fluid moved back up into the reservoir. I agree that as long as the reservoir was open, the brown brake fluid might as well have been bled and changed after the new pad was installed. That only takes a few minutes with a helper to squeeze the brakes.

Careful all.. Note the edit when he puts the second new pad back in and creates the space for the disk.. I spent 4 hours fiddling with the clamps and still had to take it to Yamaha !!
