@@JayBigDadyCy I expected something in the ballpark of what we got. Blizzard is targeting a larger and more casual audience on average. Although D4 won't distract my attention for any length of time, I think it's a pretty good foundation to build a seasonal arpg on. Comparing it to POE at launch (minus the technical discrepancies for the time gap) is a more realistic comparison. Some would argue that D4 should be amazing in every way considering the size of the development team and budget, but that creates unrealistic expectations imo. I know I'm in the minority, but I'm of the opinion Blizzard achieved a pretty decent balance considering the enormous spectrum of audience they were aiming to please.

@kenhiett5266 I see a lot of people give Blizzard a free pass on D4's shortcomings because it's "made for casual players." For an ARPG released in 2023, it feels extremely rushed and lacks so many quality of life features that are used by casual and hardcore players alike.
D3 was definitely made for casual players, yet they still provided basic QoL features like previewing stat possibilities at the enchanter, much better inventory/stash system, map overlay.

Having experienced both games, I eventually found myself gravitating back to Crucible after quickly succumbing to the monotony presented in Diablo 4 (D4). I still maintain some optimism for D4, as it holds potential to evolve into an engaging game, albeit the journey to reach that stage might span across several years.
Path of Exile (PoE), on the other hand, is a captivating experience that never ceases to amaze me, and it's heartening to witness its continual growth. Given the current momentum, I anticipate that this year's Exilecon will make a significant impact, potentially drawing in a sizeable influx of D4 players due to the rising hype around the event.
I feel it's important to add a disclaimer that my PoE journey began during the Sentinel era, which means that the game was already fairly mature when I first started. Therefore, a like-for-like comparison of the two games, based on their initial release states, is something I'm unable to provide. However, there is an undoubted consensus amongst the community about which game stands superior, an assessment I wholeheartedly agree with.

As a long time lover of Diablo (including D3) and other Blizzard games it's tragic to see so many of their great franchises ruined by limiting design and corporate nonsense. After thousands of hours across every Diablo title I finally gave POE a chance during Archnemesis League. I was hooked immediately. POE is everything Diablo could have been and so so so much more. After about a thousand hours, reaching end game every season, and watching just as much POE RUclips as playing the game I can honestly say that I still learn something new and game changing every season. The learning curve for POE is totally insane and absolutely unfriendly to new players and I love it. My biggest challenge is getting my Diablo friends to come over. They just get bogged down by the learning curve. It would be great to have a noob friendly mode where you choose a pre-made classic build and the game hand holds you through selecting skills searching for items. Kind of line if a Max Roll build was just integrated into the game. That and adding some version of 3rd party tools into the base game; a few pre-made filters (auto load neversink's basic ones) & some of the trade functionality you get from Awakened Trade> I would really love to get my "9 to 5 dad gamer friends to play" because I know that they would love POE. They just need some hand holding for a few seasons. If POE wants a bigger chunk of the market they can totally add a few features to help guide new players without compromising the game. Thanks for the great content. I've been loving the "history of POE series".

The objectives in dungeon maps are just not fun. What worries me more than the actual content in the game is actually how Joe Shelley responds to player feedback. He seems to misunderstand the problems that people have. If he cannot understand what the problems are, how can he fix them?

The atlas passive tree is the main reason a friend of mine kept playing the entire Crucible league so far. They hadn't played PoE for a couple years, and the atlas passive tree allowed them to one by one learn all the newly added mechanics. They specialized in each mechanic over the course of the league, going entirely by their own pace. I think that's really crucial (and also mentioned in the video), to take things in PoE one at a time to avoid the feeling of getting overwhelmed. The atlas passive tree was truly the best ever addition to achieve exactly that: Go step by step, learn mechanics one by one. Then pick your favorite(s) and have a blast playing the game (or keep rotating mechanics, whatever one prefers - it's such a great system really).

They shouldn't have made nightmare dungeons at all. They already had story events, story and pinnacle bosses that they could've turned into a progressional floor based system like the Nioh 2 underworld.
100 floors. Every 5 floors you get a pinnacle boss and can either decide to leave with the pinnacle boss reward or keep going. If you die, you lose everything. You get all loot after defeating the pinnacle boss (Can also use world bosses).
If they wanted nmds, they should've just left the dungeons the same and increased difficulty in harder modes like in Lost Ark. Maps in PoE, while better than nmds aren't that great either imo. There's too many affixes causing maps you can't run on your build too. Reflect for example shouldn't be a passive, direct reflect but maybe occasionally cause AoE's with reflected damage that can be dodged.

Great vid. I honestly think a lot of people who have never played PoE or saw it as a bit daunting (PoE has a reputation like Dark Souls does for good reason) probably are playing D4 and are bored af. PoE is my second most played game of all time behind WoW, of which I haven't played in 5 years (HC raider back in the day. Something like 500 days played....). And it's my second most played for good reason. I could talk about the depth, the end game, the crazy amount of different gear and choices, build etc... But at the end of the day i just love getting a build to a point where i can farm and sell the stuff i farm to make tweaks to eek out a better and better build over time. I almost always feel like I'm striving towards a goal in PoE and that's what D4 is missing dearly. There aren't a lot of choices for anything. The dungeons are samey and no one likes the objectives in the dungeons. Plus monster density is lacking as well. I won't get into much more about D4 as i could go on for paragraphs. But if you're reading this and you've never given PoE a try, I urge you with all force to jump on in. It's an amazing, amazing game.

My guess is, Diablo 4 lead management people have no clue about the ARPG genre and the game was developed in way shorter period of time, then most tend to think. The game was spit out in like 3 years, while most of the time was spent on creating the graphics and feel of combat. The goal with the systems was to create a casual friendly and adictive combat and pickup loot to get stronger cicle. And that's pretty much it. The bar wasn't set any much higher for the release of the game. Like modern COD games. ARPG is a primarely PC game genre, yet almost every lead dev plays it on console with a controller, that says enough for me. I think the lead tech or gameplay guy does some great stuff and his talks are good too, hope there are more people on the team, who know what they are doing and where they are heading with the game.

funnily enough i feel like if they leaned into a D3 style (greater) rift approach then you could at least get some more quick variety and bring some arcadey speedrunning to it, but they were clearly aware of and avoiding such iterations. meanwhile PoE has had a decade to sprinkle sauce on an already very strong endgame mapping system. dont get me wrong, a map is a zone is a rift is a monolith, but hiding the fact that most ARPGs in the genre have an 'endgame system' that is running old tilesets is key to a solid one.

The biggest Problem with Diablo4 is the fact that it is a product of greed. Pure greed by the publishers. Diablo 4 is AT LEAST 2 years away from being even remotely close to something that one could call a finished product. There is so much downgrade going from D3 to D4 that it makes me truly wonder what Blizzard even anticipated how the launch would play out.
The balance is all over the place.
The gameplay loop is horribly boring.
Helltides are a good concept implemented badly.
World Bosses are just a big Fail.
All the time we're dismounting to climb up a ledge, slide down some crap or jump over a river is just forces elongation of playtime.
There is no REAL reason to continue playing the game after you've gotten to level 70-80ish.
There's no grind for the best gems.
There's no grind to actually level up anything.
The crafting system is just laughable.
We still drop white and blue loot that literally SERVES NO FUCKING PURPOSE, it's "gold" that takes up a shitton of inventory.
Runes and their level ups are a good concept that, once again, has been implemented ridiculously.
I'll be back in a year - Season5 or so and hopefully things might have meaningful improved by then. Sad truth is that this will be around the time that Path of Exile 2 releases so there's not a shadow of a doubt in my mind that D4 is going to lose that battle (even whilst im kind of expecting a big part of the PoE1 playerbase to be disliking PoE2).

i wanted to thank you for the video.
since i'm new to poe i watched a whole bunch of video's for beginners and i have to say that your video -- altho it wasn't aimed to be a "beginners guide" video -- told me more about the endgame than soooo many other videos. your way of explaining is simple but complex enough to include important aspects.
i have the feeling that many veteran can't see clearly if they try to teach stuff about poe. things which are obvious for them aren't for us beginners and they just gloss over it.
what i noticed too is that they get stuck explaining a mechanic in detail but fail to mention what that mechanic is actually for and why its important.
for example i love ziz and i love how much effort he puts into his videos but honestly as a beginner his videos are just bad to really understand whats going on. mostly theory only without any practical example. he explains things by trying to use as little words as possible and uses other unknown words and concepts to explain an unknown mechanics. its like explaining something with the same word: "what is love? love is when you love someone." sure he doesn't use the same word but another words which is also now known to a beginner so the result is the same.
here is another example. i wanted to know what maps are and how the map device works. well... no one started out by explaining, in low resolution, abstract and trying to include the essence of what maps, atlas and the map device is for. it could be so simple...
"if you finish the campange there are no left areas/regions for you to explore and since the world is not scaling (the mobs stay at their level) one needs content to go further, level up, find new challenges, new encounters and loot. here comes the map device into the game. the map device can create portals to a level/instance. there are different kind of mechanics in the game which let you create special levels/instances. the most common one are maps. we are able to customize the maps to our liking via the atlas. all the different mechanics and masters we got to know a little bit by leveling up can be skilled into to have greater chances to see those mechanics in our maps again and progress further"
maybe you have the time and motivation to make a guide for beginners since you are so good at it :)

The feeling you're describing about difficulty explaining things at times is referred to (apparently only since 1989 though?? ty wikipedia) as the curse of knowledge. It can be very difficult to explain new and complex topics to a complete beginner if you're something of an expert, and a similar problem to that which I personally worry about sometimes is that what might be useful and thorough explanation to someone *brand new* to the game might feel condescending to someone who has played for maybe 50-100 hours and is looking for a bit more advanced detail.
Agreed that @TalkativeTri does a good job with this. It's difficult!

    • @inHell-rb
      @inHell-rb Год назад

@@ThomasWinget well, sure its difficult to explain something if one doesn't think it through. i don't think its that hard. for example i saw no one using visualizations for explaining something. not that they had to but it comes in handy when talking about a complex topic to break it down into little things.
i dont think that people worry about people feeling condescending but there is a point. most guides and videos are from veterans for veterans. they use language or concept which are known to them or use bad wording but an experienced player just corrects the word in their own mind.
i just watched 3 videos about timeless jewels. none of them explained it structured, complete and in easy terms. the explanations where all over the place. The Timeless Jewels have their Jewel name (I) (i think there are 5),
      they have a number (II)
then they have another name 'NAME OF X) (III)
and a third name 'BY X' (IV).
There are thee kinds of skill three points which can be transformed:
      a) normal smallest skill point
      b) bigger skill point 'nodable' and
      c) the biggest skill point 'keystone'.
Ziz for example said "the number says what the small nodes do"... well thats wrong the number says what a and b does. just because of this i had to search and figure it out by myself because i wanted to focus on transforming a nodable. this knowledge could have easily been shared by stating correctly and completely what is being effected. then he says "what the name does is that it changes the keystone" WAIT we have three names here I II I and IV what name are you referring to? Sure i later found out that name I and name IV doesn't really matter -- or does it? i bet is has some meaning but its not explained. Its very important if one has so many variables explaining them each by each and how they correlate to other variables. if one just ignores variables it's important too to articulate that one is ignoring them and why. Its not that hard...
i never had the situation that the material i try to learn is that bad structured and i taught myself a bunch of things i had no clue of. i don't try to blame the teacher but honestly i try my best and i'm spending so much time and effort the get this knowledge and learn. the explainations are so lacking that i found myself in the situation to write a whole forum post/thread just to clear things up and fill the gaps the video left me with. by doing this i'll spend even more time. i do this but i cba to do this every time. 8 of 10 answers are anyways just useless. the result is that in so many areas i just gave up like the syndicate.
if a veteran is making these video for experienced poe players, thats fine for me but it seems that people like ziz really care to help and guide new players but don't really notice that they could be doing a better job.
one other thing -- which one can see in all different branches of sharing knowledge -- is that one tells you what to do but doesn't care to explain why. gift someone a fish or teach someone to fish bla bla bla.

Played both POE and Diablo 4 and it's true the endgame in POE is much better. Though everything else is better in DIablo 4; graphics, UI, ease and also complexity of skills, character customization, snappy controls, excellent voice acting and story/lore. The thing is, POE has been changing a lot since it has started to be better and aside from POE 2 coming out, I don't see them do anything about the clunky UI and clunky character controls. Diablo 4 in the other hand would easily add more monsters, bosses, maps, and dungeon, and dungeon mechanics (remember how it was on the beta compared to now - huge improvement).
I understand that some poeple are hardcore POE cultists but let's give credit when it's due, Diablo is slightly better and has the potential to be so much more greater, and I'm sure POE 2 is gonna knock it out of the park.

It feels more like early access or even a beta, devs themselves don't know what game D4 should be.
Even Grim Dawn is gameplay wise miles ahead.
PoE on the other hand is honestly a bit too complicated for lots of "new" players, i hope PoE 2 will fix this.

3.22 will be PoE's biggest league to date, by player count, not because of its content, but because of D4's lack of content, even post season 1 which to all intents and purposes looks shit.

Ive played a lot of path. Ive played a lot of d4 sense release.
Bottom line: path is far superior in nearly every way. I hope d4 can learn from path's success but with path 2 on the horizon...i think D4's days are very limited even with improvements. Its a real shame honestly. I wanted to get absorbed into d4 the same i do with path. but there's just no meat on those bones.

I love Poe and I love Diablo. D4 hasn’t quite hit the mark but has a lot of potential, some of it enjoy. If they can shape the game and add to it over time through seasonal content, it’s possible that in a few years they could both be serious competitors to one another. Right now though Poe still has my vote.

lets be real, blizzard mainly had d2 and couldnt keep up. they fucked over every single game internally, ruining them one by one because they let ppl make the decisions that barely touched any game in that genre, or video games in general. poe is made by gamers, most of the devs play their own game. gaming is art, not science. there is no world in which blizzard is going to make a better game, they got too greedy on numbers.
my theory still is: they sold so many copies, it cant get any better. they want the game to go down as quickly as possible because they realised they cant delivier what ppl want anymore.

you could tell in the beta that the core content was already stale. The counter argument I always got was "its a beta lol" and i get it, but the dungeons were NOT going to change.... if you didn't like doing them in the beta the endgame wasn't going to change that. We knew what nightmare dungeons were going to feel like even in the beta IF you were paying attention.
I really hoped that blizzard was hiding endgame content leading up to release but I was severely disappointed.
I didn't want diablo to win me over, I just wanted it to expand upon new ideas instead of going with the bare minimum.

Playing PoE the first time was quite an experience. I had no prior info other than a few mentions by asmongold, and i wanted a new looter since i was getting tired of BL3. for the first 60 hours of play you can't really go an hour or 2 without interacting with an entirely new mechanic. And then you start maps and if you trained well, geared well, and don't let your ass get handed to you it's more content to interact with. truly a great game deserving of the praise it gets

I like every single thing about poe apart from the always constant dark and dull, gray maps.
Dont get me wrong they would be great in their own regard, like the mines in act 4 are terrific and would obviously be dark.
But every single map even the green ones are dark and dull.
I hope POE 2 can break away from this. Abit further zoom would also be better too.

I mean. Sigils are maps, they’re just not craftable or tradable.
Poe map affixes also ONLY increase difficulty and don’t add content, with a few niche exceptions. Beyond, deli.
Plus there’s a high friction objective.
The dungeon boss = the map boss.

i literally couldnt stomach to play past level 55 on 2 characters in d4 didnt even bother trying the new season where as i literally spent the last 3 days playing poe and made it to level 87 on a righteous fire juggernaut Only reason im probably not going to continue is because Trial of the ancestors league releases in a week and half.
I heavily regret spending 90 bucks on D4, most of the reason i chose to preorder that bundle was cause i wanted to play early if i could refund it it would.
maybe d4 will be better a year from now, emphasis on maybe. I wouldn't be surprised if they put the game in maintenance mode and focused on making something else.
