Absolutely. At this point I've watched somewhere around 15 "basic tips/beginner guide" videos and every single one of them was a bunch of incomprehensible gobbledegook. And keep in mind that I already was something like lvl 15 when I watched first of them. But still I wasn't capable to unserstand what the fuck are all of them talking about. Because all those people have completely lost their comprehension of what it means to be a noob in this game a loooooooong time ago. Their conributions in this matter are absolutely pointless. And this guy did everything right. Finally i found someone with a common sense.

Honestly, the first point is a big timewaste.
Not following guides leads to a miserable life because the game is designed to follow guides.
Thing is, in late game, you hit a brick wall where multiple things "are just expected" like ailment immunity, dealing with DOT's. 6 links. Enchants, flasks, dps, secondary defensive layers like increasing res cap, block, ward, etc. So if you "play for fun", you might find yourself struggling for YEARS for absolutely no reason. The most frustrating shit is weighted mods. Yeah like who doesn't enjoy grindin the game for 5 hours, trade for 10 hours, get the "currency" required for the "craft" and still not getting the desired outcome with a straight up junk item?
Oh and the game does an absolutely shit job of telling you about mechanics so a guide is ALMOST ALWAYS the best route. This is a game which desperately NEEDS a death log for the last 2-3 seconds but devs will make all kinds of excuses to not provide that.
Overall, if anyone is reading this, the game is NOT for a 9-5 Andy. It's for a "professional nolifer" who spends atleast 4-6 hours DAILY. If you want to enter the realm of self hatred, self loathing, by all means, it's a very good game to get depressed and feel hopeless. If you don't want to enter that specific rabbit hole named "POE", I suggest you turn back now and ignore all the bullshit the content creators say on how "good" this game is because it's not.
Think if it this way, this "game" will demand more than your pet, your job, your girlfriend/boyfriend/husband/wife or even your boss AND all of this combined will EVER "demand" of you and it's designed that way to "demand" your time and to "deny" players simple QOL to speed things up. It's worse than getting a masters degree.

The rule of thumb for anyone to remember is the value a gaming experience brings you, thats subjective to each person because of play time (when you can play, how long you can play for) and your attacking style (YOLO vs calculated) To his point, just jump in and play, its way more stimulating and you will become a lifer once you try everything on, try all the skills, progress and then see why that wont work. What he's saying makes sense, worry about that stuff later because in general as he will discuss with leagues its a timed experiende meaning after 3months your character moves to the standard league, essetnailly a retirment home server where all gear and players go to after a league ends, so you can restart a new league with a ton of learned expeirence and enjoy havign fun instead of steessing over a build and realizing you're broke and cant afford anything

I've got about 265 hours in this game. I wish I started with this mindset. Just now I feel like I'm actually understanding what's going on. A few leagues ago I decided to do a "blind build" with no PoB.
All I knew was I wanted to make two handed swords work. Ended up with a cyclone and impale Gladiator. Took it all the way to tier 10 maps which was further than i had gone before.

With this one video, you gave me all I needed to decide if this was the game I wanted to play, being very sad of how much Diablo IV beta was way too easy (like the third, in fact). Thanks a lot. • @robosing225
      @robosing225 Год назад +5

The one thing I don't like about PoE is how many hours you have to dump on anything rewarding. Going two routes: #1. Spend hours and hours running maps for useless loot till you find a better stat for your gear maybe. #2. Spend hours and hours and hours collecting minor currency to trade for bigger currency to maybe, if enough hours and days are spent collecting, trade on the market for ONE piece of armor or weapon. Then you have to do _that_ ALL over again for the next piece of gear. THEN, after 3 months is up, it all gets moved over into standard which no one plays or cares since it's not current league content. So you are forced to repeat EVERYTHING all over for the next league. Yes it's to even out the market playing field and give everyone equal grounds to gear up. But it's not scaled to keep newbies interested and engaged. It's like throwing a wench in a cog wheel each time you want to progress.
No matter what you do, even if you want to craft your own 6 socket weapon, that would take x1500 Orbs of Fusing to guarantee ONE piece! Yes it's something you can work towards, but the sheer cost of everything is ridiculous. Even if you trade for it, the cost of asking price is also ridiculously time consuming. It's meant to keep you grinding for 3 months minimum till next league starts then that character technically becomes obsolete, so-to-speak. All for what? What's the fun if all your time is spent farming or trading for gear, and have barely any time for end-game content.
I'm just saying, I wish there was a better system of craft or focus to keep players working towards something personal and enjoyable. To deal with SUCH low drop rates, such low percentages, making basic, BASIC build needs SUPER rare and hard to come by for the average player who has a job and life outside of video games.
I spent hours trying to get 5 Chromatic Orbs to drop during random encounters. And if you want to craft a 4 socket piece of gear, it costs x100 or more Chromatic Orbs just to CRAFT 4 sockets on one piece of gear you might not even like. So trade, but even then the asking price for stacks are ALSO insane.
Gaming is to waste time I get it. But I want to enjoy myself and not constantly running into brick walls, stopping the drip-fed fun throttled by this game which doesn't even give you any good cosmetic pieces you may see others have. Instead, You can just pay real money for it. There was a "bundle" on sale for $400 usd for some random in-game stuff, gear, loot and whatnot. 400! Regular cosmetic skins run people around 10-15-30 bucks a pop. Forget creating a system where the player can work towards cool cosmetic gear. Just pay us.

@@waldemarwalo Yup. Put in a couple of hours. Love the simple upgrades one can make on ordinary weapons. I kept the same wooden weapon from lvl 2 to 13 by just adding and transforming it. Skill three is great. Quest are too simple for me (dungeon crawling with no other possible outcome than killing a boss and receiving another quest), but it's because I love a story where your choices change the story. Still 100% better than Diablo III. I will continue to play from time to time :)

Thanks for all the useful and well tought and spoken information. I played POE a bit, like 5 years ago, and really liked it but then life made it so i stopped playing. Now i want to start (im really new. I was only at act 3 i think) again and in all that complexity you managed to make it looks simple and easy. Your way of approching things with the fun factor is really invigorating and you made me (and others im sure) want to play it.
Subscribe right away and im gonna go check if you have other beginner tips and tricks while the game is intalling.
    Cheers

I just started this game and I don't have much of a clue, but it's fun. I have a Templar at level 11 and he's pretty cool and kicks monster ass. You really don't need to know everything all at once. I just kind of works out and you explore it bit by bit.
So I really appreciate the premises of this guide. This game is extremely complex but also just really fun.

THANK YOU for the best ever intro in POE! I was thinking of getting into this game but was a bit anxious because of all this geek and nerd number talk, and was thinking - is it really what you want to do to relax after your busy day? Now you encouraged me to continue exploring this gorgeous gothic hell :)

Here's my tip. Make your first character, don't do any research, and wing it. Your first character will fail miserably, and that's ok. You're gonna get some cool skills and be like wow I wanna build around this now. Your second character will be way better than your first. You know the basics, the second playthrough will be easy.
Eventually, you'll get bored of that character or inspired to make another. That character will be better than your last, and the process repeats. You'll get better every time. You don't need the endgame build with instructions. Find something cool and go for it. You would be bored anyways.

Thanks for this guide. I dropped PoE after the Excavation-Event and played a ranger with mainly shield-gems. A few days ago I logged into PoE and mostly all my passives were reset that was a huge turn off moment... alt + F4 it was. But after watching this vid I took my time and finished the build again after I checked on the gems and what I was playing. So far it is a pretty nice build tanky and the damage is ok. I think with better gear I can get more out of it. Right now I am at act 7 and I am curious how well it goes when I finish the main story.

Character feels strong for now so just going to keep having fun. :) Started googling to see what I was missing as a beginner and was glad for the confirmation just to take it slow and have fun.

Thank you. Lots of other videos and such going into details as well. Only issue is they say "for beginners" but use a lot of jargon that's too advanced just yet to explain something simple(and they don't explain what that jargon meant lol). It's good to find content that's actually new player friendly. Just started recently and I'm digging it. Thank you for filling in the blanks.

YO READ THIS NOOBS - When you are getting to endgame (maps) you should do TWO things to make it easier. Get proper flasks and rolls on them increasing your defenses. Flasks aren't fancy but they are basically 5 item slots that are pretty cheap to upgrade by buying or rolling youself. And the 2nd thing is to GROSSLY OVERCAP resists and stats (str/int/dex) when you buy rings/belts/amulets etc. Being overcapped helps with two things. One is protecting vs enemy curses and debuffs and the other is that when you change gear in the future you will have room to play with, not be stuck figuring out some puzzle to get +5 strength or something.

From someone whos played for a long time's perspective, I do personally encourage people to try completing the whole acts, especially as you get into places like The Beacon, Maligaro's Map, Desecrated Chambers, The Brine reef etc (yes I know the chambers is the same map tile but in act 10 its got so much more density and loot potential that it feels entirely different, much like blood aqueducts), things start to feel map-like, enemy density, dangerous rare enemy mods mixing up with dangerous enemy types, items with more interesting implicits, and of course, more of a challenge gearing for both elemental resistances and attributes so that you can wear every piece of gear you need and be able to live through all the small hits. This also opens you up to Blight and Expedition which are fan favourite league mechanics that get people some starting currency without overwhelming players with hard content (even if blight has a little bit if a learning curve, its far from difficult to learn). Mapping is an entirely differsnt experience to the acts and reaching mapping always feels like the light at the end of the tunnel every time youre levelling a character, its where you find the freedom to choose what content you want to play and tailor it so that its the best content for your specific build to run. There are also starter guides available with plenty of handholding, will you get every piece of gear that a streamer does? No, just be realistic, if theres an item that really opens the build up then you save up for that item, you level with different gems until it makes sense to swap the skill. Ive levelled a spark inquisitor as an armageddon brand because arma brand (with no brand or damage over time or fire damage nodes) alone will get you to white maps, taking crit multiplier nodes like if you were running arc or spark already. Once you make the switch to spark, you get those 1-2 lightning trees and drop in the cluster, your damage ramps to about triple your previous damage and things start to make sense.

I still think having a general idea of a build you like how it looks on youtube even tho you dont understand the game is better than going full blind and get stuck...you dont have to follow guide with all confusing info, but atleast grab a skill tree and follow, many guides have section for the tree like act 1, act 2 etc...but ofc read what you are taking and think why you are taking it so you can still learn from it.
