DOOM Eternal and DUSK are not only the best shooters on Switch, but arguably the best shooters ever made, and they’re on this little handheld! Pure magic.
A suggestion for any western fans- Call of Juarez Gunslinger is a fun, relatively short game. It's not Red Dead Redemption but definitely worth a sale price purchase. The story is simple and fairly comedic and involves a number of sensationalized real-life Western legends, the shooting is decent and feels appropriate for the genre, and the music is very reminiscent of Ennio Moriconne.
Agreed. Would also mention that it's more of a shooting range, practically on rails game though, not an arena-ish shooter like modern doom or more action oriented like Crysis. The story is pretty likeable and on the whole the presentation is really charming.

I really hope the GTA trilogy being Fd up didn't ruin our chances of getting those games.😶 I'm still having a blast with the trilogy but they really need some serious optimization.
@@volcom137z I don't think there's any way the switch is going to run something like RDR2. I really like BioShock 2. Is hard for me to pick my favorite BioShock honestly. They are all amazing in their own ways. The first one is just iconic though. Such great games!
Dying LIght is a FPS! Sure, if you fire a gun in the game, every zombie in the country will hear you and want to eat you...but still! It's one of the best games on the console!
Oh Dying Light is on switch ? Never heard of that before but it's a gem of a game for sure. I highly doubt dying light 2 will release on switch though which is unfortunate.
I'd add Void Bastards, Call of Juarez Gunslinger, Dying Light (which only becomes a shooter later on in the game), and maybe Bulletstorm and Alien Isolation, and call Doom just a collection at this point. Warface is also worth a mention, being free and basically a good COD style online multiplayer game. F2P also has the added bonus of not needing NSO subscription, so a lot more activity. I hope WWZ gets the fps update, so it can count as an fps as well.
The FPS library for me is what separates the Switch from the last gen PS Vita. The Vita promised this handheld fps reality, but, the Switch actually delivers it.
I wanted to say that Bulletstorm should be on this list, but it unfortunately lacks motion control. Other games patched motion control in later, they should have done the same for Bulletstorm.
I tried to get into this game on PlayStation 4 and it just didn't hold my attention for some reason Started replaying it on the switch, and I'm having a blast. There's some really fun guns to use in this game. And it's childishly hilarious to play as Duke nukem
I really hate the fact that I suffer from motion sickness every single time I try to play a game in first person view. I feel like I'm missing out on so many good games! I can't seem to find a solution to this problem, I literally feel sick whenever I try to play these games.
Baby steps is key here. Don’t push your body. Stop as soon as you feel uncomfortable. Turn off everything that is shaking the screen in addition (some games have this option) and try games with 60fps to start with. You can train your body. I still suffer watching others playing FPS (like, when I’m dead in Warzone and wait to be revived). Need close my eyes and wait for audio cues to get back into the game. And I had to train my body for virtual reality too. So yeah, it’s hard but doable. Patience and persistence. Good luck mate!
Warlock and Warlock 2 will release soon. Doom64, Overwatch, The Serious Sam Collection, and Apex Legends. I haven't played Dusk but want to check it out now. I don't own World War Z on switch but the update: Aftermath has an FPS mode.
I wouldl be hard-pressed to name my top 10 first person games. For me, I'd say: - Dying Light - Serious Sam Collection - Doom 64 - Turok 2 - Duke Nukem 3D World Tour - The Outer World - BioShock Collection - Earthfall Alien Horde - Payday 2 - Metro Redux There are still so many games I still want to check out, such as Ion Fury, Borderlands, and Bulletstorm.
Since joysticks are already a hindrance, the short joysticks are an even bigger pain. Doom just isn't even the same game. The two best FPS that work well on the Switch that I've played are The Outer Worlds and Dying Light.
Understandable, but I am hoping when my Ryze pads show up they help address the short Joy-con stick issue. Gyro though is a game changer, and I miss it when I switch playing Doom Eternal from Switch to Series X
@@CVSooner777 I can't even play the newer Doom games on console, they're just not the same game. But I've been playing Doom 3 and Quake, they work decently. The Outer Worlds is by far my favorite FPS on the Switch though. I really wish we could get Fallout 4 or New Vegas.
I sort of agree, to a point. In my experience the joycon sticks are a bit small and short so the field of movement is off by a little. I play mostly docked and with a controller so it feels like playing a PS or Xbox. as far as the 2 games you mentioned, I've played the Outer worlds and that was a nice trip down Fallout Lane, lol. I haven't played Dying Light but my youngest brother is a fan and has been trying to get me to play it... As a parent with lots of kids. The Switch is now my go to console (I'm a Sony fan) because of playing games that look great on portable mode is perfect for me when I can't get a TV available.
I'm finally redownloading Doom Eternal after trading in for an OLED last month. I beat the base game forever ago and bought the DLC that I have yet to be able to play. There goes all my data.😂 This is one of a few games that a physical copy would have been nice. Doom Eternal, Bioshock Infinite, RE5, MK11, RE Revelations 2, and Witcher 3 all take up a HUGE amount of space as far as switch games go. Doom Eternal at almost 29 gigs has to be the biggest game on switch besides the Witcher 3 at over 31 gigs.
Doom eternal on switch in handheld mode has a grainy appearance, combine that with the 30 fps along with soft edges and it seems to give off this 80's action movie vibe.
Apex Legends should be in this list, I think. It is A LOT better now than when it released. Mostly stable 30fps and resolution is also higher. Definitely one of the most impressive ports, considering how demanding game Apex is.
@@Avm371998 I am sorry, but this is false. My games are 95% of the time locked 30fps. It can drop when there is firefight, but usually framerate is very stable. I really like BioShock 2. Is hard for me to pick my favorite BioShock honestly. They are all amazing in their own ways. The first one is just iconic though. Such great games!
Yea…I’m lowkey hurt he doesn’t enjoy Bioshock 2 as much
I recommend Project Warlock. retro game with great weapons, levels, and powerups. good soundtrack too. give it a try!
@@Zy.Blurish It is (kind of). It's coming via cloud gaming! (Hopefully natively on the next system whatever / whenever that may be lol)
@@Zy.Blurish dying light 2 is kinda coming out on switch? They’re doing a cloud version of it. Little weird but If it’s playable on the switch
@@Twinceramic Oh right i haven't thought about that but i'm glad this option exist for games that would otherwise not be possible to port over
@@Zy.Blurish Indeed. I don't mind it as a solution. But I hope it doesn't become the standard.
I love the outer world on my switch, got it for my birthday and couldn't put it down till I completed it. Then made a different character lol
Not sure how the Outter Worlds did not get mentioned. Far better than 40% of the games on this list.
I think this list was made before Dying Light became available for the Switch.
Thank you for this 2021 update! It is going to help me navigate some sales!
City of Brass is an inexpensive but EXCELLENT shooter. It needs some love.
I tried to get into this game on PlayStation 4 and it just didn't hold my attention for some reason
Started replaying it on the switch, and I'm having a blast. There's some really fun guns to use in this game. And it's childishly hilarious to play as Duke nukem
It’s gear box, they never update anything especially if means it would mean a better player experience
I like how “GUN” is just in the background
Which of these have local multiplayer? Splitscreen?
Borderlands can at least, don't know about the rest. Resident Evil games also allow it.
Doom 1, 2, and Quake have all got splitscreen.
Where is timesplitters , golden eye or perfect dark?
My favourites fps are Metro collection , all doom games , Borderlands collection and Crysis Trilogy
The hose stuff. My goodness Alex that was brilliant
The gyro in wolvenstine 2 the new order honestly makes it the best version of the game
I've never wanted a console upgrade so my bad in my life than I do for the Switch Pro/2.
I wouldl be hard-pressed to name my top 10 first person games. For me, I'd say:
- Dying Light
- Serious Sam Collection
- Doom 64
- Turok 2
- Duke Nukem 3D World Tour
- The Outer World
- BioShock Collection
- Earthfall Alien Horde
- Payday 2
- Metro Redux
There are still so many games I still want to check out, such as Ion Fury, Borderlands, and Bulletstorm.
Always look forward to your videos Alex, thanks for being awesome.
Call of Juarez gunslinger
Super underrated but an absolute blast
Alex recommends we look into Doom 2016
Me: too late i already did
I enjoyed this video so much. Thanks Alex!
Im downloading Doom Eternal at the moment but maybe I'll give Dying Light a chance after I have my way with Eternal... I take it that you would recommend that I give Dying Light a shot, right???
@@superbobtendo1493 Dying Light is ridiculous impressive on the Switch. And I have a $3k PC that I can play on and I still play Dying Light on my Switch.
@@goodinsrt8 well shit... that says something... what about the core gameplay?? I know its about zombie-like infected people and the others who have splintered into communities and some are just barbarians. Im aware of the day and night cycle and the parkour as well... but how about the whole formula?? Is it well integrated and it feels good to do without getting to a point where its just rinse and repeat?? Know what im getting at??
No Serious Sam? I've been enjoying the heck out of it...but that may just be nostalgia.
I gotta try Dusk. You have me sold on giving it a try.
Im playing bioshock infinite right now. Love these games as well.
As a parent with lots of kids. The Switch is now my go to console (I'm a Sony fan) because of playing games that look great on portable mode is perfect for me when I can't get a TV available.
My question is where was ion fury
Why was Turok, Turok 2, Duke Nukem 3D, Doom64 and Ion Fury not included on this list? These games are all great FPS's.
prob cuz not to be rude btw but 4 out of 5 of those titles are emulatable on other just as convenient systems
@@XZ-III Not of those titles were emulated. They're actual ports on modern systems.
I didn't see anyone mention it but Quake was the 3rd game ID software made after Doom 1 and 2
Doom eternal on switch in handheld mode has a grainy appearance, combine that with the 30 fps along with soft edges and it seems to give off this 80's action movie vibe.
So I guess the “can it run doom?” joke has been turned into “can this game run on Switch?”
This video's a flower garden... 'Cause everything's bloomin.
Portal Companion Collection and Metroid Prime Remastered should be on here
Apex Legends should be in this list, I think. It is A LOT better now than when it released. Mostly stable 30fps and resolution is also higher. Definitely one of the most impressive ports, considering how demanding game Apex is.
"Mostly stable 30fps..." lol the game runs under 25 fps or lower most of the time. And whenever there's a gunfight it's so choppy, you can't do sh*t.
@@Avm371998 I am sorry, but this is false. My games are 95% of the time locked 30fps. It can drop when there is firefight, but usually framerate is very stable. I’ve been playing the switch version of Apex for over 700 hours and I’ve seen it improve update after update. I also have Series X, but i prefer Switch because of gyro aiming and portability.
Finally someone who enjoys and appreciates the Apex Legends port on Switch! I absolutely love it, especially as I don't have any other consoles and my laptop isn't even close to being able to run it smoothly, so this is my only option to enjoy the game, and in my opinion it's good fun
Do you guys wanna exchange switch friend codes and maybe play apex together some time?
@@Avm371998 it was terrible at the beginning but it's definitely improved. Wish we could play on switch specific servers that aren't in Japan
We need an Modern arena shooter online for the switch.
We need Metroid Prime Hunters 2
Great list.
Would recommend adding Ion fury, Strife and Turok on there as well.
I like that you left the T̶o̶o̶L̶ Doom song to play fully
it would be very appropriated if you would make a top fps games with local split screen multiplayer.
Right on time to buy one during the ongoing sale 🙌
duke nukem , ion fury, project warlock, bulletstorm, void bastards, doom 64, outer worlds
Apex, warface
Would you also love to have the Ubisoft games Farcry Primal & Assassin's Creed The Ezio Collection on the Switch ?
The thing with the sprinklers was funny 👍
Which Crysis is best !? Or should they be all played in order !?
Halo Anniversary edition would be amazing on the Switch 😍
I started my FPS journey on SNES with Wolfenstein 3D.
That desktop background though
I wonder if they'll do a discussion to talk about their favorite games from year in December. I know I'd definitely watch it
Why wouldn't you also include the add-ons for Doom 2 and Doom 1 for that matter on switch? BTSX E1&2, NEIS, DOOM ZERO, REKKR, Double Impact, Plutonia experiment, TNT Evilution, NRFTL, Sigil, Syringe, Earthless: Preludes, etc.
also:
Ion Fury
Duke Nukem 3D
Turok: Dinosaur Hunter
Turok 2: Seeds of Evil
Overwatch
Bulletstorm
nice list, great choices!
Nice, I will always prefer playing doom and also quake. Quake even got mod support and crossplay on all platforms
