I was waiting to see Metroid Dread on this list and had a little smile on my face when you said that Animal Well was the only Metroidvania on this list… without combat. I knew that Metroid Dread had to be coming. Some of my personal favourites missing from this list are: Luigi’s Mansion 3; An absolutely beautiful and charming game. The sales numbers do not lie. At more than 14 million copies sold in a franchise that has sold about 25 million copies total, it was the revival that we desperately needed. Taiko No Tatsujin Rhythm Festival; The series had always been a hit in Japan and recently become more mainstream in the West. This game has the widest selection of songs to choose from if you’re willing to invest about $5/mo into the music pass, which can be cancelled anytime you need a break from the game. Bendy and the Ink Machine; A cult classic from the early years of the Switch. Despite it’s short and sweet length, it manages to encapsulate an adventurous and at times panicked state very well. The atmosphere is on point and the boss fights are charming and just tough enough. Not to mention the great Easter eggs that are very well hidden. Ori: The Collection; Phenomenal music, animation and visuals. Fantastic boss fights. And stories that will make you cry. This collection is a great time that will have you immersed into the world of Ori.
Imo a very good list with only one or two picks I'd actually argue against but again this is highly subjective and personal. But heres my personal picks that deserve to be mentioned. Either Ori games but personally i prefer Ori and The Will of The Wisps more, in art direction alone it is just actually one of the greatest games of all time. Then it has a score/soundtrack that can actually keep up with the visuals, I'd argue some of the single smoothest gameplay you can find on the switch that will bring you back for more and more. On top of that I'd also like to add Octopath Traveler 1 & 2. Slay the Spire And Inscryption All fantastic games i have sunk so much time into and will continue to for years to come. but if I had to pick a single game Will of the Wisps clears, one of my favorite games of all time.
Preface that I agree smash ultimate is the best smash bros, but I do find it frustrating how Nintendo always leaves smash’s competitive scene as a mess. Bayonetta happened on the Wii U and they just left it without patching it. Steve absolutely broke ultimate by the very nature of his design and they didn’t even try to balance it. Fantastic game, but very unfortunate tha Nintendo stifles what could easily be the biggest esports thing in the world
I love that you're not a stickler for Framerate, because neither am I, and I love how many games just work so incredibly well on Switch even if they don't run as smoothly on other platforms. PS: I would've shot for 50 Best Switch games, personally, because there are SO many games not on here that I would've included.
“[Animal Crossing] was a huge warm hug that’s the world needed”… but then “President Nook” reduced the interest rate on our savings accounts, and we started getting stung by tarantulas. 😂
Super Mario Maker 2, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, and Zelda Echoes of Wisdom are all easily in my top 10 and missing from this list. That said, I own 17 of the 31 games from this video and they are all very good. Half the remaining are on my wishlist.
It's interesting to see a list about of the 31 best Nintendo Switch games with that number why it's 31? For the Switch gamers this is the best time of the year when it's early Black Friday when it's only time that even Nintendo games are on big sales like these: Super Mario Odyssey, Super Mario Maker 2, Yoshi's Crafted World, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Metroid Prime Remaster and even all Xenoblade Chronucles games encluding 3 what's the best one, Bayonetta 1&2 and even Tears of the Kingdom are on sales this is the biggest Nintendo Black Friday so far happy gaming Black Friday and Holiday 2024 everyone: Here we goo wahoo! 😊❤
Sonic Mania The Messenger The list that was given is already solid but Mania is my most played Switch game, it's insane the replayability, music, and fun it is. The Messenger is so freaking good. I feel like Sea of Stars might have gotten it a little more attention but truely a master class in 2D platforming.
Games glaringly missing in action here for me are Dragon Quest XI S, Nier: Automata, Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin, Emio: The Smiling Man and Valkyria Chronicles 4. Also Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Luigi's Mansion 3, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, Tunic, Ori and the Will of the Wisps, Little Nightmares, Deponia Collection, Black Bird, The Wonderful 101 Remastered, and Unicorn Overlord.
Frankly, you could’ve removed some ports (no matter how wondrous) and included some exclusive classics, like Luigi’s Mansion 3, Link’s Awakening, and Kirby and the Forgotten Land.
I feel like games that debuted before The Switch's generation shouldn't count, but it's your list. It was a nice surprise to see Cuphead so highly regarded.
And since you asked Alex, using my own criteria off the top of my head I'd vote: 1. Smash Bros. Ultimate 2. Super Mario Wonder 3. Breath of the Wild 4. Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze (Technically shouldn't be here, but you know) 5. Cuphead 6. Metroid Dread 7. Kirby and the Forgotten Land 8. Cadence of Hyrule 9. Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge 10. Sea of Stars 11. Mega Man 11 12. South Park: The Fractured But Whole 13. F-Zero 99 14. Bowser's Fury 15. Yoshi's Crafted World 16. Nobody Saves the World 17. Super Mario Odyssey 18. Splatoon 3 19. Dragon Quest 11 20. Pikmin 4 21. Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope 22. Sonic Mania 23. Echoes of Wisdom 24. Fire Emblem: 3 Houses 25. Pac-Man Mega Tunnel Battle 26. Eastward 27. Hollow Knight 28. Ori and the Blind Forest 29. Gravity Circuit 30. Doom Eternal 31. Super Mario 35
@@atb8660 gameplaywise, I absolutely agree. The Art Style, writing and the overall tone though just weren't for me. I love having both on the same system.
Obviously subjective, but the Switch may go down as the greatest system made to date. There are so many games for different types of gamers. It's an absolute haven for JRPGs. They may not have made this list, but included in my top 10 are DQ III & XI, SMT V, Octopath Traveler I & II, Fire Emblem Three Houses, and Triangle Strategy.
For me it absolutely is the greatest system so far (and I've had a lot of them, starting with the original NES). I love the ability to take my entire game library with me, and that library has multiple generations of classics, in addidtion to all the awesome Switch exclusives. It is my dream console for JRPGs especially - everything except Chrono Trigger (come on Squeenix!).
I said it at the time and I'll repeat it. Metroid Dread was as significant to the games industry as Super Mario 64 and GTA 3 were in reverse. It introduced a generation back to an era & style of gaming that the AAA label had them believe was completely outdated. Simply a masterpiece. If you have never played it, please do
I loved super metroid for the snes have completed it multiple times back in the day. Bought Dread for the switch but I must admit that robot chasing you is annoying and stressful and actually made me quit with no intention on going back.
@@johnnylarsen492 I completed it before they introduced an easy mode, so it may have become easier, but I know what you mean, it was such precise timing that I was still none-the-wiser when I had done it correctly. that would also be my most frustrating part (with boss fights it seemed like each time I failed I was getting closer and closer, to the point that I mastered it. unlike the white EMMI robots which tbh felt random right to the end). But Dread was my first ever Metroid despite being mid 30's and growing up with the SNES, it welcomed me to the whole genre and the indies, not just the Metroid series
@@nancyswift8090That his point exactly. The lost Crown was dismissed heavily by players that “demanded” the series to be this 3D blockbuster. Sadly for them they pretty much missed out one what is probably the best game in the series. And yes I have played them all.
There are ways to circumvent TW3's natural blurriness by changing the graphics settings in the options and increasing the sharpness of the image, which can noticeably improve the overall experience

Played a lot of Warzone in the MW2019 days and then other PC games when i had the time like Fallout 4 and Witcher 3. The Switch is just good old school fun like when i was a kid.
This honestly is a really bum list. Like, how are you going to include all the multiplatform and ported games in a "best of Switch" line up? And why stop at some, but not others? If including The Witcher, why not include Skyrim? Why not include Fortnite? Why not make it a top 20, trim the fat make it switch exclusives- limit it to new titles and remakes only available on switch? How are you going to have the worst way play Witcher, but not include Luigi's Mansion, Echoes of Wisdom, or Kirby and the Forgotten Land? And those are just ones I have played myself. I'm sure others can come up with their own personal favorites. Fire Emblem, Bayonetta, etc.

Something I learned from this video is that while I sometimes heavily disagree with Nintendo Life’s lists (especially with their TOTK opinion)…i still think their videos are awesome hahaha
Was surprised The Legend Of Zelda: Link's Awakening wasn't listed. For me it's the perfect example of a remaster. Upgrading sound and visuals is all you need. Plus it was an awesome game when I had it on GBC and remains so on the Switch.

I can't wait to play this game, I'm going to get it for christmas!
@@Nate9-9 you’ll upset IGN
My only complaint with Metroid Prime remastered is that it's so nerfed that it's hard mode is the gamecubes normal mode
Funny he says, don’t be upset if your favorite isn’t on this list. Legit starts with my favorite game of all time. I play the original TTYD on GameCube and the remake just makes everything so much better. I can’t tell the difference in the frame rate or maybe I do and just don’t care. TTYD just brings joy to my heart
No GOLF STORY? Alex you should be ashamed of not including it in the list.
Can I just say that you are an absolute delight? Because you are! I love how much excitement you always have talking about all of thesse games! I was a bit turned off from gaming recently just because it just didn't feel fun anymore. But this video made me want to get and play the heck out of these games! So thank you! Now I'm gonna go shopping hahahah
I'm played slightly more than 1,000 hours of gameplay for Zelda Totk, Botw, Assassin's Creed Black Flag, Witchers 3, Hogwarts Legacy, Dragon Dogma & Final Fantasy 12 (all open world game except FF12 semi open) on my 2 years old Switch Lite. This are my top 7 games on Switch ❤👍
The port library is incredible too, like Persona 5, Super Mario III, Doom Eternal, and Earthbound on one system
Cuphead is hands down one of very few games that I genuinely enjoy playing. I beat it with s ranks and still can't get bored with its superb gameplay. I just hope that one day a sequel to this absolute gem will come to life.
Game is hard a f
Dread was such an experience. My #1. One of the few switch games I couldn't put down.
Really surprised by the lack of Forgotten Land, but there are just so many quality games on the system so I guess it's *almost* forgiveable
Great video! Alex is hands down one of veeeery few gamejournalists that I respect. Seems like a very honest and nice guy 😊
I was scared metroid dread wasn't on the list for a second lol
No dragon quest is insane
I was waiting to see Metroid Dread on this list and had a little smile on my face when you said that Animal Well was the only Metroidvania on this list… without combat. I knew that Metroid Dread had to be coming.
Some of my personal favourites missing from this list are:
Luigi’s Mansion 3; An absolutely beautiful and charming game.
Either Ori games but personally i prefer
Ori and The Will of The Wisps more, in art direction alone it is just actually one of the greatest games of all time.
Then it has a score/soundtrack that can actually keep up with the visuals, I'd argue some of the single smoothest gameplay you can find on the switch that will bring you back for more and more.
On top of that I'd also like to add
Octopath Traveler 1 & 2.
Slay the Spire
And Inscryption
All fantastic games i have sunk so much time into and will continue to for years to come.
but if I had to pick a single game
Will of the Wisps clears, one of my favorite games of all time.
Fantastic game, but very unfortunate tha Nintendo stifles what could easily be the biggest esports thing in the world
But there’s very few Steves winning majors. It’s no where near bayonetta in smash 4
I love that you're not a stickler for Framerate, because neither am I, and I love how many games just work so incredibly well on Switch even if they don't run as smoothly on other platforms.
PS: I would've shot for 50 Best Switch games, personally, because there are SO many games not on here that I would've included.
Tunic, Death's Door, Undertale, Cross Code, Monster Boy, Blasphemous, It Takes Two and Cyber Shadow.
“[Animal Crossing] was a huge warm hug that’s the world needed”… but then “President Nook” reduced the interest rate on our savings accounts, and we started getting stung by tarantulas. 😂
I wish Bowser's Fury was sold separately.
Super Mario Maker 2, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, and Zelda Echoes of Wisdom are all easily in my top 10 and missing from this list. That said, I own 17 of the 31 games from this video and they are all very good. Half the remaining are on my wishlist.
24:27 the most comical insane laugh on RUclips 😂
An outtake during an outtake is gold. Meta as hell play, Alex.
no Tropical Freeze is atrocious. better than half the games on this list
Kirby and the Forgotten Land
Disagree 😅
Sonic Mania
The Messenger
The list that was given is already solid but Mania is my most played Switch game, it's insane the replayability, music, and fun it is.
Portal Companion collection is currently 75% off on the eShop which makes it $4.99.
An absolute steal for two of the best games of all time.
Frankly, you could’ve removed some ports (no matter how wondrous) and included some exclusive classics, like Luigi’s Mansion 3, Link’s Awakening, and Kirby and the Forgotten Land.
No Astral Chain cmon man or Bayonetta 3
Is Bayo 3 good? I have just enough money in the Eshop to buy it with the Black Friday sale.
@@jclausell if you're a fan of the others it's so good
@ yes I would recommend
@@ErenTheWarcriminal @anthonyriley6009 thank you
I feel like games that debuted before The Switch's generation shouldn't count, but it's your list.
It was a nice surprise to see Cuphead so highly regarded.
And since you asked Alex, using my own criteria off the top of my head I'd vote:
1. Smash Bros. Ultimate
2. Super Mario Wonder
3. Breath of the Wild
4. Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze (Technically shouldn't be here, but you know)
5. Cuphead
6. Metroid Dread
7. Kirby and the Forgotten Land
8. Cadence of Hyrule
9. Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge
10. Sea of Stars
11. Mega Man 11
12. South Park: The Fractured But Whole
13. F-Zero 99
14. Bowser's Fury
15. Yoshi's Crafted World
16. Nobody Saves the World
17. Super Mario Odyssey
18. Splatoon 3
19. Dragon Quest 11
20. Pikmin 4
21. Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope
22. Sonic Mania

31. Super Mario 35
Disco Elysium
Three Houses
Octopath Traveler (1 or 2 or both)
I got other personal faves but these are OBJECTIVELY missing
Good shout. Add Chained Echoes to that list. Or go buy it and enjoy ;)
Engage is better
If you have never played it, please do
And if you like Dread, give Prince of Persia The Lost Crown a shot!
Currently playing it now am I'm surprised how good and challenging the game is. I wish I had played it sooner
@@nancyswift8090That his point exactly. The lost Crown was dismissed heavily by players that “demanded” the series to be this 3D blockbuster. Sadly for them they pretty much missed out one what is probably the best game in the series. And yes I have played them all.
Dang no Three Houses
Kinda wish this list was just Switch Exclusives
There are ways to circumvent TW3's natural blurriness by changing the graphics settings in the options and increasing the sharpness of the image, which can noticeably improve the overall experience
Eternal Darkness in the background... One of my all time favorites!!!
DRAGONQUEST!? ..
My list would be quite a bit different from this one, but I love so many of the games on here. Staggering library.
I just bought a switch. Been playing odyssey when my baby goes to bed lol. Now i can't stop looking at games to get. I'm 34 and havent been gaming much for years. Played a lot of Warzone in the MW2019 days and then other PC games when i had the time like Fallout 4 and Witcher 3. The Switch is just good old school fun like when i was a kid.
kirby and the forgotten land not being on here is a sin
Kirby FL should be in top 3.
How Kirby and The Forgotten Land and Luigi's Mansion 3 do not get on the list??????
No Fire Emblem Three Houses ? Astral Chain? Links Awakening?
Pokémon Scarlet/Violet might not be as good as we expected, but they're still fun games.
My 31 Best Switch Games In No Order (console exclusives, no remasters or remakes)
1. Super Mario Odyssey
2. Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
3. BoxBoy + BoxGirl
4. Golf Story
5. Super Mario Party Jamboree
6. Paper Mario: The Origami King
7. Mario Tennis Aces
8. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
9. Arms
10. Astral Chain
11. Bayonetta 3
12. Pokémon Legends Arceus
13. Pikmin 4
14. Metroid Dread
15. Animal Crossing: New Horizons
16. Xenoblade Chronicles 3
17. Splatoon 3
18. Super Mario Bros. Wonder
19. Mario & Rabbids: Sparks of Hope
20. Super Mario Maker 2
21. Luigi’s Mansion 3

26. Bravely Default II
27. Tetris 99
28. WarioWare: Move It!
29. Clubhouse Games
30. FAST RMX
31. Shin Megami Tensei V
No Trombone Champ? This list is void.
I think you guys somehow forgot Luigi's Mansion 3
kinda wild nobody at Nintendo life has ever played the fire emblem games , otherwise they’d both be on this list
I can't imagine owning a Switch and not playing Zelda BOTW + TOTK and Xenoblade trilogy
The fact they can make a part 2, and still not give up on any quality! 😳
A solid list and there are alot more that could be added, and yes I love the Zelda games on the switch but the games that blew me away this generation of Nintendo and I still can't stop think about is Metroid Dread and Xenoblade Chronicles 3. My god did they offer two unforgettable experiences that I will never forget.
No Octopath or Three Houses?? Kms those are my favs
I love it when your channel does these types of videos, the best of, love to see more
Both Ori The Blind Forest and Will of the Wisps and Owlboy… Steamworld Dig2 as well.
