Hi all! So, this was a surprise - we didn't expect such a sudden influx of viewers to a 4 year old video! While you're here though, do check out our more recent stuff, as we'll be posting new science videos throughout the year!
Tbh if this channel only did videos like this you'd have alot more followers. This was very interesting, I check the other videos expecting to see more like this but was disappointed!
@Zoom Boom ahhh I see, well you can smd over & over & over until you feel satisfied with yourself. How about that? Would you like that? I’ll sure you will Or you can shut the fuck up & get a fuckin life😂 what a joke you are sir, people like you are bad for the “community” get a life 😂
@Zoom Boom “zoom boom” do you enjoy trying to make people feel less about themselves for making a simple peaceful comment? Haha your whole life is a joke, tell me sir.. what do you do? Do you actually do anything at all🙂 it sounds like your a little miserable fat fuck who has nothin better to do with your pointless miserable life but to just go troll and make fun of other humans 😁 it’s very inspiring lil guy, one day I want to be just like you!! 🥲
I love how passionate he is about these he’s literally smiling! You can tell when someone loves what they’re teaching about and it makes it so much more engaging.
He's got that Eddie Redmayne awkward thing going where he doesn't realise his hair is messy and probably finds it easier to talk about dead marine creatures than to talk at a party. I like him.
The angler fish looks very leathery and quite more solid than I expected. I imagined it would be more a lot more “deflated” when he pulled it out of the jar.
Please do more with this guy. He’s got a lot to show and tell. But please do better closeups with the camera. This was so fascinating, but the camera work made me wonder: why so far, was this shot during the pandemic!???
Please no this reminds me of when i went to the sydney museum of human disease for my biology excersion at school and it was exactly like this except with diseased human body parts and im still mortified there were like hands and feet and and even half of some guys face, still had the mustache and everything. Im going to have nightmares again. 😭😭
Longer than we’ll be alive for. Luckily, these are not anything crazy of fish anymore and in 100 years we’ll be able to dive deeper and find crazier organisms.
I took an Ichthyology class in college. We were opening jars and examining fish specimens all day in lab, and we even got to see an old coelacanth specimen in storage. For field trips we went out to the sound on a NOAA vessel. I wasn’t a science major and the experience was very cool.
Just wanted to put this on the record: It is currently the 8th of March 2021, 3:43pm, this video has been recommended to me and only has 7248 views with 273 likes and 3 dislikes. On the off chance that anyone in the future sees this, please update me with your current findings
The last reply was 2 days ago, and the one before that says one week ago, but that probably isn’t exactly correct since youtube rounds numbers. It is 4:28 PM EST on Tuesday, March 16th, 2021. This video was recommended to me with 36,359 views, 1.1 thousand likes, and 17 dislikes. The channel has 440 subscribers.
The way he handles the fish, grabbing them and putting them on top of each other's jars, letting them drop everywhere and not rolling up his sleeves.. beautiful
I kinda want to hold that anglerfish. I’m just imagining what kinda texture it has when you lightly squeeze it, looks like it has a spongy spring to it...
i do understand human curiosity and eagerness to learn however i was waiting on an explanation aaa to how you obtain these amazing creatures?? did you guys really kill them for the sole reason to have them in jars???

The algorithm should’ve realised I would click on weird dead fish sooner!
Lol

give us more James Maclaine videos 😡
RUclips recomended me this. But i like this kind of content.
He's so excited when he's talking about the specimens, and then really awkward when he's not sure what to do at the end, it's really endearing.
Ikr😣
It’s refreshing.
Especially after all these influencers with their fake everything, including enthusiasm.

It's so small wtf
Imagine if humans were like that haha
@Ali Zaidan Thamyeez ik ik, that's just my reaction
I could listen to this man talk for hours at an end.
Yeah he definitely knows what he’s on about
Right!! His voice is just calming & you can tell he loves what he sharing about 🖤 no homo
@Zoom Boom I can’t like how he sounds? I’m sure I’m not the only one thinking the same shit😂 I didn’t say it was miraculous. I said it was calming

He’s like a cool professor who lets the class have fun at the same time teach them effectively

The camera person needs to learn how to get closer. He's telling us stuff a mile away.
They were doing the 2 meter thing before it was cool lol
Trueeeee
Wow! What a bitch you are hahah just had to complain about something
@@metallicvinyl4949 Guess what.. I can say whatever the fuck I want and if that makes me a bitch so be it. I don't mind it at all 🤡
He was perfectly close what are u talking about?

@@velocityraptor9270 Pretty sure they're already dead
It's a Football Fish, a type of angler fish covered in hard spiny plates. Not all anglers are that "solid".
When they animals are preserved in alcohol for a long time they get stiff
When i was a kid i was soo scared of that fish when i used to play shark evolution
@@flamecharge8019 lol shark evolution is only like a few years old

Love this and love this guy's enthusiasm. This is what inspires a new generation.
I get so much anxiety seeing him dipping his hands into those jars with a long sleeve shirt on...
Ahahaha I was thinking this the whole time😂
The explanation is on point, the camera work sucks
I feel, after all these years..... RUclips FINALLY understands what I like, what it should recommend. ABOUT DAMN TIME!!!!
I want somebody that would talk about me just like this man talks about these creatures
It's just gives me so much anxiety. Please, for gods sake, roll up your sleeves
I was looking for this
Princess Banana Lmao me too.
Y’all weird
@@God7ODTaxationIsTheft
The possibility of his sleeves touches the dead fish water.... IS VERY REAL.
I already got anxiety since he start to take the gloves
I'd love to be there and look at all those different fish closely
You’re on your own there bud.
Please do more with this guy.
He’s got a lot to show and tell.

This was so fascinating, but the camera work made me wonder: why so far, was this shot during the pandemic!???
oh my god, god he’s adorable
I cannot believe this doesn't have more views.
Somewhere I wouldn't wanna get locked in over night.
I wonder if the staff have named the squid and greet him like another colleague when they get to work each day.
The giant squid is a female and her name is Archie. I THINK because she was found in the archipelago off Argentina.☺️
1:20 danggg he was able to put that glove on fast I suck at doing that
This guy is so adorable ! i could listen him all a day
Imagine your job title is “fish curator”
He pickles the fish why not seems interesting but the name is very weird when telling what job you do to other people
Working at a place like that would be so amazing
Interesting to see the Pelican Eel, I always saw it referred to as a gulper eel growing up
Me too, I still do
Someone PLEASE tell me they also see this guy as the real life Newt Scamander. I cant unsee it.
Wow I was not expecting the male to be THAT small 😳

His intelligence and expertise is so attractive
Of all the animals we know of, these are the most intriguing to me. They're not easy to encounter, so they're naturally mysterious to us.
Id watch stuff like this all day, love the deep sea and especially when enthusiastic people are talking about something, makes the topic even better.
I'm curious how long those specimens will remain recognizable in those jars.
With proper maintenance, probably hundreds of years. Those are strong preservatives in those jars.
Probably formaldehyde.
Barf. So many floaters.
@@mmc1086
... most are not floating in the jar....

What a nice channel. Freshly serious and articulated. Nice directing too. Glad I found you.
Amazing video! This deserves a lot more views!
The idea alone of colossal squid is the stuff of nightmares and gives validation to those scared of the open ocean.
I like how this guy get’s more and more excited as he is talking about these fish
So wholesome
wow I loved this video, very educational ! please do more videos with James, I love his enthusiasm, we can see that he really love his job :)
Really interesting, thanks for the tour!

so calming
Sir, your voice is very relaxing.
The sea is absolutely terrifying
*I hope Elon Musk or someone like him gets passionate about exploring our deep sea oceans.*
I need to find more videos like this
pls make more videos like this🙏
We barely explored the ocean, and these kind of fishes exists! Imagine what else we could discover!!
"Sir, SIR"
No joke, I clicked on this video coz I thought that was Hamilton Morris in the thumbnail and I thought he was gonna get high off that fish
This mans ability to pull dead fish out of pickle jars without squealing is unbeaten
He seems so cool
You couldn’t pay me all the money in the world to touch those fish with my hands 😂😂😂😂😂
The absolute mad man didn't even roll up his sleeves
Ninja is so fascinated by the specimens
This video made me more interested in deep sea life.
Bro, roll up your sleeves!
it's just so cool
That squid is so big! I'd be scared lol
Thank RUclips for random nature history channel
I love this. I keep some (dead ones) in jars at home.
3:21 i know that feeling fam 😔
Here before this blows up
If you look closely... wink wink camera man??
Imagine while discussing those specimen..It broke into half
Nice!
i don't know why but i assumed old specimens and the like were just kept untouched in their jars
This guy is pretty great
The way he handles the fish, grabbing them and putting them on top of each other's jars, letting them drop everywhere and not rolling up his sleeves.. beautiful

Bio Luminescent fishes are the freakiest, I wish the was video longer
I would like to see more of the giant squid please
I had no idea deep sea angler fish were that huge
Most aren’t, football fish are particularly large
What do you keep in the water with the giant squid from keeping it from rotting and stinking?
It's most likely formaldehyde, a type of preservative used primarily for organic material
That fish curator boy is cuute
here before the RUclips algorithm blows this up
He’s takin the specimens out one by one, I wonder if those specimens stank.
Here before one million views. Currently at 12k views in 4 years lol
I wish my chemistry teacher was this cool
Can I ask what liquid is the specimens suspended in?

Wow, oldest comment here is from only a week ago... on a cool video from 2017... crazy
It’s weird this video is so old but it’s just now getting more views …
If he was my science teacher, I’d have listened more.
Jks I did listen, I’m just tryna say he’s fit.
Wait till this hits the algorithm
Did he say “they hunt for food” or “they hump for food” ?
Honestly, I could relate to both.
I won't be surprised if this video has over 2 weeks more than 300k views
This seems nice although u look scared for a dead fish and please give us more focus on the fish itself so we can see it in detail :3
