Non-human intelligence
Is human intelligence really so unique?
We look at examples from nature which prove that non-human intelligence is all around us. These findings cast doubt on our own cognition, which might reframe how we view our place in the world.

How do plants perceive light ?
Просмотров 2668 месяцев назад
A new study recently published in Science helps further our understanding of plant light perception. Plants use specialised photoreceptors called phototropins to create a gradient, dictating the direction of growth. This new study suggests that air-filled intercellular channels can help enhance this gradient, improving a plant's ability to detect directional light cues. Paper: www.science.org/d...
How do hummingbirds fly ?

How do Hummingbirds move through vegetation in the wild? A new study recently released in the Journal of Experimental Biology helps answer this question. It illustrates that Anna’s hummingbirds (Calypte Anna) can shuffle and dart through small gaps under experimental settings. Social Scientists vs. Natural Scientists
all liars. he is a gross profiterer out of my life times work
Fantastic video. I love watching little known channels because every once in a while a solid video like this will show up. Thank you.
Thanks !
So glad I was recommended this! What a fascinating topic. I think humans are incredibly hubristic about our own abilities. And for all of our intelligence, we cannot figure out how feed our population, build our cities, and develop new technologies in a way that is sustainable in the long term. Our supposed 'intelligence' that has created the material world we are so proud of will ironically also end up being our downfall.
I agree, but do think we're starting to see people seriously recognise the cognitive abilities and sentience of animals particularly. Hopefully the appreciation of this will lead to legislation and safeguards for the natural world. There's a lot to be hopeful for, but I hope changes come sooner rather than later :)
"humans aren't special!! we're arrogant!!" why do some people jerk themselves off to how fallible they are?
i was just randomly suggested this video in my feed and though i prefer videos with a much more in depth explaination and analysis of the topic, i cant deny that even this surface level description of the various forms of intelligence in the animal kingdom was beautifully scripted and narrated. this was a succintly informative overview of the subject matter that felt incredibley professional and well executed. i havent watched anymore of your content yet but if its anything like this then i feel it is absolutely criminal that your channel only has 2 and a half thousand subscribers.
Wow thank you so much ! glad you enjoyed and really appreciate the feedback :)
I’m so irritated that they had to play sounds of gum chewing in the video! Effing infuriating!
Sdrumox senior
Fun video. I was looking for anything on the topic of funny named theories and this was all i could find, so thanks. I had never heard of hairy ball theorem lol
Just wanted to say keep up the good work! You deserve more recognition than you have and I hope you get it :)
You're very kind, thank you so much !
@@IScienceMagazine Of course! Saw how many videos you put out, and thought it was ridiculous that you don’t have more attention. Keep it up, and I’m sure in time it will come!
That's so interesting. I didn't know the air in the plants helps it know what direction light is coming from among other benefits. Thank you for sharing :)
So cool isn't it ! thank you for watching :)
wow great video!
Thanks!
wow! blank screen! most impressive. well done posting it.
NONCE
You've made a video about Misophonia, but used a bunch of trigger sounds right at the start? Had to stop watching 15 second in. Awareness is great, but some empathy (trigger warning in description, or not using trigger sounds at all) would be appreciated by many I'm sure. Unfortunately, due to these sounds used from the beginning of the video, I was unable to continue watching as I am anxious that more sounds will be used later on, and thus, missed out on what might have been beneficial information about my disorder.
I’m so mad right now for the same reason! It’s stupid that they would even play triggering sounds.
Ay bablake come get your teacher
LMAOO
Great video sir!

Creepy fucking shit, for sure
are you gonna make Human Centipede, Sir?
Awesome! That dude has to reek from formaldehyde constantly though. Just thinking about it takes me back to 7-8th grade science class 🤢
dead or not; i don't think i would be touching those lol
Looks like a giant testicle
These are just half life unused mobs
The thumbnail made it look like Nathan Fielder was cooking a footballfish.
wow
He probably kept these fish captive and didnt let them breed n survive in the ocean
Imagine the smell of the fish inside the jars
I was just waiting for some of The fish to move
Imagine while discussing those specimen..It broke into half
This seems nice although u look scared for a dead fish and please give us more focus on the fish itself so we can see it in detail :3
cameraman and editor pls do ur work
Who needs space aliens... This shit looks fake
What a nice channel. Freshly serious and articulated. Nice directing too. Glad I found you.
The Angler fish looks like my left testicle
If he was my science teacher, I’d have listened more. Jks I did listen, I’m just tryna say he’s fit.
He gives off newt scamander vibe 🥺
Anyone else think the thumbnail was ninja
MANS SAYS FISHES
He said fishes
so calming
