Can’t they have this be shown in the opening ceremony itself? It’s a shame such a masterpiece is not even seen by most people.
Apparently it was more crucial for us to watch John Legend sing "Imagine"...
The opening ceremory performance was so dull, this could have added a spark to it.
Agree, this could be the cultural introduction for anyone who is not familiar with Japanese animation.
@@PlatonicPurplePanda okkk, just because it didn’t have this (which I’m also pretty mad about) does not mean Tokyo’s opening ceremony was dull, at all. Tokyo has probably had *one* of the best ceremonies yet!
Yeah! Beautiful animation like this deserves to be seen!!!
The Five Shounen Protagonist represents

Joy of Effort,
Fair Play,
Respect for Others;
pursuit of excellence;
and balance between body, will and mind.
@James Smith The Kid from the Boat looks Asian to me, they're just the Ghibli style of characters, that's why they look like that.
@James Smith i was thinking about how the dark skinned kid is obv supposed to represent black Olympians and how the fish kid is most likely Asian (the blonde girl is a clear cut stereotype to be the "white" person in about every country) and how the slightly tanner girl is probably Hawaiian or Native American, but then I realized one of them is an Eskimo and also realized I don't know what to classify the Eskimos...
@James Smith lol you’re wrong. There are three asian (east asian, south asian, northen asian), one latino, and one caucasian. No african tho, dunno why
@James Smith theres like one caucasian lmao
@James Smith you’re the one sounding racist here
People in the credits have worked for Studio Ghibli, including the director....
no wonder
It's Studio Ponoc, founded by ex Studio Ghibli employees.
thank you kim jon-un, very cool
I didn´t know that Kim Jong-un is a Studio Ghibli fan...
That explain everything, thanks

Even the bells at the beginning ring with the rhythm
Honestly i would've been pissed if they wouldn't have included anything anime related. And yet they didn't dissapoint that was really beautiful piece of anime
They did not include any anime yesterday.
They could literally just have this playing as part of the opening? It’s a shame that this work is literally only watched by under 100k people.

I love how the importance of unity and working together was conveyed without any words. That's the beauty I see in this animation 😊

This anime piece is stunningly beautiful!
5 spirits represent 5 elements and 5 rings of the Olympics. 5 kids represent 5 different races.
The kids end up working together because while they competed with each other, the earth was suffering. But when they came together, earth thrived, overcoming the depicted climate change and how it would've influenced the future of those 5 kids if they didn't do something.
Beautiful! Just beautiful!
No, the kids do not represent the "5 races" there is one human race, they simply represent 5 ethnically ambiguous characters, yes blonde girl is obv European and dark skinned boy is obv African but the other 3 kids are racially ambiguous they could be so many things, can we STOP dividing the human race into "races" it's disturbing.
@@mlnkaia its not disturbing. You want to make all races into one giant mush?

That is beautiful, and yet the message of this Olympics round didn't reach the people, when they saw the cartoon beds they didn't understand that it is for the environment,
YES! The message is clear. 5:18 make me chill.
So true!!
Exactly what I thought, to suddenly see how the world of today is submerged in water (climate change) was like "Woah, this is an important message I'm glad they put in"
Olympic does nothing for the environment really tho
OMG It's Studio Ponoc!! I've been waiting to see more from them since Mary and the Witch's Flower. This gives me the same vibe of fantasy.
I love how the sound design matches the music's tempo. From the school bell (1:22), to the horse gallop (2:48) to the ice break transitions, the digger appearing and falling (3:06), the swimming (4:00), even the "tired" breathing they incorporated in the music afterwards, aargh! ]I can list so many...but I won't, I'll just enjoy it XD

Such a shame only 100k people have seen this amazing artwork !
This should have been shown during the Opening ceremony...
This nearly made me cry multiple times and I can't puzzle out an exact reason. The story, the art, the music and the characters all felt so touching. If there was anything that made me appreciate the Olympics more than it is this short anime.
Same! I was wondering if I was being weird because it's half past 5 in the morning here, but I'm glad to know that others have reacted similarly
Yeah, I enjoyed this animated short more than the opening ceremony.

it’d be cool to allow biodiversity to thrive again through one magical ball but this time we all need to unite not just as countries but as a planet to save our home. This may sound quite out of context since this is definitely about the olympics but I just hope more people understand and act out about how important our environment is. Our olympians work tirelessly to bring honor to their countries. They inspire us with their courage and strength to be there and continue on despite challenges. It shows what humans are capable of when they want something and work for it. Maybe we can still save our planet, if we act now. Our olympians are evidences of growth. Ps. the animation was beautiful!
Not out of context at all! I believe that's the main moral of the film. I hope we can stop messing around as a planet and get it together for the sake of everyone and everything to come in future generations
Its not a magical ball
Its the sacred cabbage of life
PLEASE show this during the closing ceremony.
PLEASE. PLEASE.

Beautiful! A message of respecting nature while adding multiple different sports and competitions. (I loved the rugby and volleyball references) Also a message if respecting the differences of cultures while coming together to protect nature. Though I think in this instance "Nature" wasn't just that but the world itself.
That's why we love Japan❤❤❤🎌🎌
I wished this was a series! I feel honored to witness something like this.
a subtle beautiful message that it will take everyone's help to protect and preserve the earth from becoming inhospitable for all life.
when I do mean everyone that includes corporations to actually think what more important, money or a future for all life to not just survive but thrive
exactly!
boy, corporations will ALWAYS think only about money. And that's not the blame of employees, the manager, or even the CEO. That's a consequence of the sistem that they operate in. There are only two ways to stop this: moving out of capitalism, of restrictions imposed by the government.
I will never forget Tokyo Olympic 2020. We had awesome Google Game and now this art. Feels like I have seen the whole of Mononoke, Laputa, Moana, Ponyo and Avatar at once.
this was the most beautiful, emotional and motivational piece of anime I ever saw # Tokyo2020 already the best Olympic ever
I got chills, words can't express how much I love this animation. Absolutely beautiful
Only when we put our differences aside and work together can we save nature. That's a beautiful message behind a beautiful animation.

Oh woooow, I’m really surprised this hasn’t gotten more views since it came out two weeks ago. As soon as I saw it was made by Studio Ponoc (the Studio made by some of those who worked at Studio Ghibli) I knew it was going to be amazing.
I know I also saw it, inspired by the Ghibli Studio Pakistan is also making its first hand-drawn animated film.
Lovely leaves..., shoals of fish, maps, mountains...
I remember every minute of Miyazaki...thank you for all the spectacular watercolors. Just to say, in my newly released book, Re-imagining mathematics, (by Ashna Sen), I explore how the whole of mathematics can emerge from nature, the arts and even community...especially from the symmetry of nature art.
