EXCELLENT VIDEO - I had such a bad experience with Adobe this summer I vowed to NEVER use them again nor their inefficient Call Centers in India. Their products can no longer be used unless you are online and connected to the cloud. I bought thousands of dollars of software from them in 2009 to be told I have to buy it all again now. I"M DONE with them and think Gimp will serve my needs even better. We got to refuse to do business with the companies like Adobe Software that has no problem screwing over their clientele if it means more money. By the way, when I came to your tutorial on RUclips there was an Adobe Software video being advertised. I hate the way companies monopolize on screwing over customers so they can get optimal dollars. But back to GIMP - loved this - had the tool over a month and what you just did will get me far. Got you bookmarked and will be back for more. Thanks so much for you time and knowledge.

It is *very* frustrating but once you learn how to do a particular job, it works just as well as the expensive alternatives... so videos like this are a God-Send! :-)
In my opinion, GIMP can not compete with let's say Photoshop in pro environment otherwise is a decent choice. I put out a short screencast tutorial on cutting the image out of a background in GIMP using the F key (Free Select Tool Only). Suitable for complete beginners if anyone is interested.
I took a graphic design/image editing class as an elective in High School, and they taught us on both Gimp and Photoshop. I personally love Gimp because everything is so customizable. I love open source programs :)

Good, comprehensive overview. I slowed down your voice in parts, so I could get it. Will watch several more times. I've been wanting to learn this program, just downloaded. I subscribed. Thanks for sharing your expertise.

I mean, a tutorial that could mainly clarify the differences in which Photoshop and GIMP handle selected areas .. I Have not seen a particular tutorial that could help clarify the confusion many Photoshop users migrating to GIMP are having and I would like to share the videos in our facebook community (Open Source Creative Tools) Many thanks for your great work on all these tutorials.

Unfortunately, I was not aware of how to used the program because I never found any tutorial for GIMP.

Hi Chris, thank you for making these videos, i just downloaded the newest GIMP program and i love it . Well keep up the great work and thanks again for sharing your knowledge to everyone ! : )
Thank you for sharing your skills. I like the pacing of your explanation and detailed demo. It was very useful to know why things have to be done a certain way. I've watched a few tutorials for beginners and yours is the best. God bless you and keep you safe and healthy.
Hi Chris, if I want to create several elements and then add them to an 8.5 x 11 canvas and then print, what size would I make my elements. Let's say a tag with various layers.
Excellent presentation of GIMPS functions, and the subsequent effects of those applications ❗ Concise, and linear narrative that's simple to understand...THIS IS GIMP~ GOLD🏆❗🏁🏁🏁
Thanks for the tutorial. I appreciate that you get to the point quickly and provide a lot of information in a short time. Many tutorials are too slow for me and yours was just right.
GIMP is a great product, create by talented programmers, and appreciated by millions. And it's completely free. To the photoshoppers who can't use GIMP, why are you trying to use GIMP? Stick to photoshop, if that's what you know. To those that can't make a square on GIMP, try using your search engine, or RTFM. Anything new will have the basic requirement of educating yourself on its functionality.
Hi Chris I have created a jigsaw in GIMP but would like to know how do I export. I need to include this as an activity in a learning module. Thank you Kerry
Kyle Grygo agree! But maybe it’s because I am an old school photoshop user so I already am familiar with layers and the tools are similar. I am still trying to download GIMP right now but the install is slow because I have something else going on in the background.

For years I have been hearing people complain about Gimp not being intuitive. It is an open source volunteer programmed software and that is why it really ought to be good. The way to
solve this problem is to go to the GitHub repository and fork the project. I suggest a name like Intuitive Gimp. Just Fork it!
I am not a programmer but actually I could do this because GitHub is not necessary only about programming it may be possible to enlist non-programmers into a discussion of heuristic design like the discussion that tool place in Xerox when their team invented the mouse. The project starts by imagining how one thinks computers should help you draw. The next step is rearranging how modules are called by the user. So the new fork would really only be creating a new menu system because the program is there. Hopefully at least. One utility I wish they had was a function finder where if I type in a function the menus open up and the boxes fatten up to show where those things are. As far as I know that is new a no one has programmed that. When you imagine what a drawing program should be you wish you could reach into the screen with your hands and pick things up and move them. The whole process needs to be examined as to the perspective of a caveman or a child trying to make a picture but for the most part the program is there and it works. It just needs to be rearranged and organized where grug brainlets like me can pick it up smoothly.
