I've found that I have to watch these videos several times, and pause/scroll back, to catch instruction I've missed, then practice. Thank you, good video.
Hello Chris, Thank you for your informative video. I am a Newbie with 2.10 but learn fast. I have decided to follow you on this issue and would like to ask if you could record your content slower thereby making it easier for us to digest. This is a very powerful and somewhat complex program to learn. Please do not make the same mistake that many tutorial authors make and try to present things at light speed. I have seen a similar video, the exact same content is done in 10 min and it was a joke. Yours is much better, yet to fast to really follow. When you lay a sponge on the surface of the water you will notice that it doesn´t sink immediately. If you hold it down and let it go it pops back to the surface and still has not absorbed much, whereas if you take the time to wait for it it will eventually soak up the material thereby making for a much better experience. Thanks...
Hi Chris, Gimp is Cool Painting Program. My extra Tip for Beginners is if you want to Paint Easier use the Gimp Toolbox Closer to your work area so that you do not need everytime to move to the left corner. or use Keyboard Shortcuts on Keyboard this Will also Help.
minor thing: the ASCII table consists of 127 characters, which are basically the English alphabet and the most used special characters such as parentheses and arithmetic symbols. the arrows, smilies, fancy symbols, any alphabet etc. are only present in Unicode.
THANK YOU. I have been using photoshop for quite a long time now, I will continue to use it, but I was looking forward to editing on linux. And seeing that gimp is the only alternative out there, this helped a ton. Cheers.
There are only just a few videos explaining that extensive stuff as exactly as you do. So I have to thank you very much for this great video. It was very useful for me. Somebody said that it's a little bit too quick, but that is only in the first days of trying. Soon beginners will need that kind of videos to reach the first targets. Sorry for my bad english...I'm from germany. 😉
For we 'beginners' it would be VERY helpful if you would slow down, repeat, and explain more about each tool you are selecting. Do you have a slowed down version?
I recommend against using the scissors select tool. The result is terrible. It's much faster, easier and cleaner to use the bezier selection tool (hotkey b). This tool will give you nice smooth curves to work with so you do not spend ages correcting the terrible chunky results from the scissors select tool.
Excellent video. I would recommend going slower - especially near the end - and stating which icons you are using and where to find them. Otherwise, again, excellent. Thanks.
Wow, you answered several of my burning questions! I actually feel more competent for just having watched. Do you have any tips for layers that don't want to behave? It's probably just be ineptness, but my layers never seem to do what I tell them to.
Chris, THE FIST THING you need to tell the viewer is... 1.) WHAT VERSION YOU ARE USING! and that goes for PLUGIN VERSIONS as well! 2.) HOW TO SETUP GIMP'S CANVAS AND TOOLS.
Same here! Some parts, like using the scissor tool around the athlete, are too dragged out. But the parts that show tool selections, layers, drop down menus, etc., are so fast that even with pausing it's hard to catch. For people just learning Gimp, finding the tools and other functions is paramount.
FIrst 30 seconds a background layer appears. Also when new layers are started there is no explanation of what choices to make. These missing steps in the first 2 minutes make it difficult to follow along and try and do it my self. This is for beginners. I will listen on, but lost after 2 minutes of 24.
Thank you for your hard work in creating this. Sadly, you go way too fast at times, you do not always fully explain things out, you don't always say what you are clicking as you are working and your videos are more geared towards someone with more intermediate knowledge than what a beginner would normally start out with.
Thank you for you turtorials. I did run into a little issue in my dodge/burn try out. It seems to me that my dodge isn't as suddle in applying a thin layer as yours is and on top of time I believe it to overlaps on areas already applied on even though I never released my hold on the mouse. Any idea how this is happening?
FIVE YEARS AGO? Dude, you deserve to catch up and let the traffic this gave you some return. But it will require you to update!! Dang, I saw potential, but time takes it's toll on tech content. I hope you'll update.
How can I change the colors on the interface like yours for more contrast. This 2 tone grey is pretty but hard for my old lady eyes to see easily. Mahalo in advance.
I'm a former PSP 9 user, and I am completely lost without my beveling tool, as well as some plugins I had. Can you direct me to a plugin download that's actually still there or more free tutorials, please? I needed a free Photoshop/PSP equivalent for a reason. Thanks for any help! (Photo editing is my best emotional therapy when I can make pretty things.)
So I cut the scissors shape out, then I paste it into a new layer. I can't erase anything because the active layers alpha channel is locked. ????? What is that, and how do I erase stuff?

I have been using GIMP since the late 90's. I have to say I think the 2.10 release is as about as big a deal milestone wise as 2.4 was. I still want CMYK though : \
Good video except the narrative is far to fast and does not fully explain where you are finding some items you talk about. Needed to drop out background and am constantly having to pause and move back when if you slow down your cadence it would greatly help.
i miss photoshop! so easy to pick a color from the photo and then add areas to that selection with a few other clicks. Gimp is not "that" great substitute. From from it!!!
sorry - you jump around so much - I can't see what you are clicking - idea is nice - the stuff is what I want to learn - but can't see enough to learn.
I've found that I have to watch these videos several times, and pause/scroll back, to catch instruction I've missed, then practice. Thank you, good video.
Thanks to you tube we can wash, rinse, repeat.

You can play back the video at 0.75 speed on RUclips.
Thank you so much for this! I can _finally_ get to grips with GIMP after years of struggling with over-complicated tutorials and a faulty memory...
Things I've been doing for years may so-o-o- much easier.
Thank you.

Thanks a lot for this video. I've been using GIMP for quite some time now, but I learnt a lot of new things/techniques from this video.

agreed
Thank you
This is a beginners tutorial. You need to be much more detailed in this explanation, in order to be helpful.
Right
Just use free select aka lasso tool.
Excellent video. I would recommend going slower - especially near the end - and stating which icons you are using and where to find them. Otherwise, again, excellent. Thanks.
@Paolo G - omg, I can't believe I never knew this! Thank you Paolo :)
Wow, you answered several of my burning questions! I actually feel more competent for just having watched. Do you have any tips for layers that don't want to behave? It's probably just be ineptness, but my layers never seem to do what I tell them to.
Do you have specific examples?
when ever I cut something or use the fuzzy select tool I cant get rid of the outline
You've probably got it by now, but in case anyone needs, right click, selection, none
Wow nice tutorial - very cool !
I was trying to do the same following these instructions, but are not specific not clear either. Of course this is my personal opinion as a beginner.
though there is some negative comments,
i find it beautiful
Fabulous! Thank you for taking the time to make this video. I am a beginner and looking forward to playing around with Gimp.
You just saved me a lot o trouble. Thanks

Incredibly helpful thank you
Hard time following the mouse, text to small. saying "im going to click this" doesn't help if we can't see what you're clicking.

This was very helpful. Thanks so much.
very informative and helpful. thank you
I found this video fascinating and helpful. Thanks!
thank you very much for this useful tutorial. you touched many of the issues that i want to learn in gimp
HOW DO YOU HIT DELETE? PLEASE EXPLAIN WHAT KEYS YOU ARE PRESSING!!
To hit delete you hit delete on your keyboard.
Use the Delete key! You know, the one with "Delete" written on it!
if you are on a mac you can just go to edit-->clear
That's what sPyke is asking, I think. I'm on Mac and hitting delete does nothing.
@@jonathonresney6386 On Mac, try using the function (fn) button + delete
Super useful

How do you make it look like a looneytoons ending? You know with the darkness surrounding one circle with the scene behind it?
Thx!
wow, its working for magic eden, opensea and minting sites
but when i move the character ive clipped out it just moves the background. so the thing ive clippe dout dissapears
you've chooses wrong layer
Wrong - the FIRST thing I want to know is how to import the photo!
I just dragged and dropped a file from my Pictures folder. Don't think this warranted a tutorial!

Great! Helped me a lot. Thank you 🙏
Does GIMP have a distort tool to it?
How do I resize the image I cutout...It thinks im trying to click the base layer..
Thank you this is soooo helpful
very nice video
How can I make multiple text sizes? When I highlight one word it changes every single word so frustrating.
Could you please direct me on how to download GIMP on my Lenova chromebook?

Wow great video
What version is this mine looks different!!
I cant remove text from the picture without distroying the picture. I cant find the tool for this action.
Outstanding!
Thanks for your effort!
hi, is it possible to convert a selection to a layer mask ? thanks
THANKS FROM MALAYSIA
thank you. this is a very nice video
So I cut the scissors shape out, then I paste it into a new layer. I can't erase anything because the active layers alpha channel is locked. ????? What is that, and how do I erase stuff?
Cutting seems to have alot of adjustments to apply, is there any other select tool that is a little smoother
?????
Yes, I recommend the bezier select tool (hotkey b). The scissors select tool is pretty useless if you want quality selections.
Great video!
Great Video Man !
How do you 'unselect' a scissors selection when it shows lines crossing over to other 'dots'?
try clicking delete on ur keyboard
how can i remove the yellow border line on the picture
As the video played you went faster and faster until I was lost
whenever i'm done using the scissor and close the the dots, I click inside the shape and I just lose all my dots -.-
yeah me too!
Thanks!
heyy how do i close a path on gimp 2.10?? the cntrl-click method isn't working -_-
Super helpful. Thanks much!
Thank you for the video!
what version of gimp is this?
how can i remove the scissors cut out line when im done??
This's hardcore. Thanks!
