This is getting ridiculous. I have been through the video twice to set up both my devices. Now I want to change the position of my docks. I looked for a short video but they are all about moving dialogs. I couldn't even find the info in the GIMP documentation. So here I am again.
Great, reasonably detailed overview,, the instructions on setup, settings etc are really useful as well. A great start to understanding the various wormholes one can go down customizing and using this versatile graphics program ... thank you!
I think they may have added the layer effects into the latest updated version. Mine does have drop shadow, bevel, artistic etc. in the Filters Tab at the top, located in between Tools & Windows tabs.
At about 4:45 min into your course you suggest two links that allow you to get the course for $9.99 however when I use the links you provide I am sent to a Udemy site that charges way more than that. Is this a time limited offer?

I didn't like the advanced project because I have no need of creating a flyer and I would prefer to know what functions you are trying to teach rather than the end product that you want. I also didn't download your files because the link wasn't obvious in your comments. At the "banner" point I went to another video tutorial to create it. I had already merged my layers. You say I am going to learn some new things but not what they are. After creating the curvy shape your image shows a dotted line but mine is solid. I am still able to move my anchor point but using fill with foreground, which is white, nothing happens. I still just have an empty shape. Changing the fill color to black resulted in the page being turned black rather than the banner. If I hit the move tool my shape vanishes. I've slowed down the video to .75 and repeated 3 times. I'm Missing something. I also don't see the point of having created a new layer after the shape. What is the new layer for? If I switch to the fill tool my selection vanishes. I finally discovered 2 issues. I had not hit "enter" after finishing my selection although I am not sure that was an issue. I had a background white layer visible so when I filled with the foreground color it was white on white. I finally got everything working. The change mode to multipy is confusing. I can see the result, the way the layers behave differently. Other videos don't make it clearer. Why am I using this method instead of using regular layers? Why doesn't the photo cover the entire surface when it is the top most layer?

Artists did not create Gimp. That's why it's so dumb and still is. An artist will take a reference and a canvas and put them side by side, not layer them. They will cut or choose the right sized canvas. Then the artist will choose the brush or pencil. The names Gimpers use for the tools are stupid. If it cuts just call it a cutter. The clone tool is basically a brush. the path tool is a cutter or a brush, but should be in the proper section for what gimpers want it to do. So if we pick any of those tools, there should be a "simple' path to the other options. And how to easily get back out, by a simple back button.

Think of layers like the invisible man. Each layer is transparent except for what you put on it.
