it's tough watching this sometimes, cus that first dave tattoo wasn't bad at all. when you have such seasoned tattooists judging people (plus a competitive environment), it can get so nitpicky that it sounds like that canvas walked away with something awful. but it's still very recognizable as dave, and he isn't wearing a giant black helmet in it. I'd be happy if I were that canvas.

Nothing they said made it seem like the tattoo was awful, they never said that. The tattoo was just far from what was expected.
I like that both dave and steve were supportive of nick with the litza thing. steve straight up said he did not want to tattoo her and even when she picked his design pointed out that nick drew what she asked for and he didn't. he was clearly there for nick.
I love how Steve tried to defend Nick by stating that he did do everything that she had asked for. She’s one of the most unhinged ppl I’ve seen on this. If she flip flops on some of the most important things I can’t imagine the ordeal it would be to stand behind her at a coffee shop. 😂

I actually really like dave (from watching ink master) but I couldn't stop laughing at the fake reaction to the first portrait lmaooo I had to rewatch it I just thought it sounded staged like he knew already 😂😂
I preferred Tatu Baby's coffin legs over the final execution of the planchette. Those halo lines are really dark and the way they go through the window throws off the dimensions and rhythm of the look. Either have them on the outside only or make them a different colour. Dark red on brown wasn't a great legibility choice. Not to mention it's upside down, and none of it's symmetrical. The negative space being crooked in the window especially is a bummer - it's just off enough that it was probably supposed to be central but isn't. I can get Dave being touched about how personalized the design was to him, though. Jason played it real smart and was observant about his client, and that's important, too. But Tatu pulled out lots of tricks and those legs and wings were mad cute. The boxiness of the coffin made sense with the cute thicc legs. The proportion in the box is a bit skewed but I don't think it's as egregious as the asymmetry of the planchette, and the colours are readable. Out of all of them I preferred the rabbit's foot vs the rabbit though. That was dope. If this didn't need two winners that probably woulda won.
People do layers on layers now. Hell he can do a blast over or a black out and then do some colors over the black out. You can pretty much be tattooed endlessly even if your covered 100%

I don't know I see different from what the judges say I'm totally not the tattoo person but that Dave Navarro tattoo I thought he did a really great job with that I could see the resemblance to dave even though wasn't right on Tattoo portraits rarely are but it was darn close....
I think the resemblance was great and I don't know much about tattoos but I think they got him on technicals like shading and colour blocking. I can agree with them that there was too much white in the hair to make it really look like the deep black his hair actually is.

I think it was mostly the hair. Dave's hair is full black but the tattoo had lots of white streaks that made it look lighter. I feel like they judged it more harshly because Dave is the host of the show so they see him all the time so they can capture things not necessarily on the picture.
