Throw a shop rag over them snap rings while removing...you had new ones so no big deal if they got lost. :) Can you comment on the slip yoke "upgrade" that the GM tech bulletin is referring to? Not sure what is needing to be replaced.
Lol that would have been a good idea at the time. We still chased them to pick them up 🤣. In regards to the slip yoke to my knowledge the original ones where not nickel plated therefore not holding up strong enough, and causing the infamous “Chevy clunk” (rounded splines). They addressed that almost immediately after production. Most people where able to take them in, and get it replaced with the nickel plated slip yolk right after purchasing them new. I’d be surprised if you run into one that has the “Chevy clunk” that was not replaced this late in the game.
Ah k. That makes sense. I’m sure you’re right that most like all have been replaced. How do you check to make sure? Been wanting to redo my u-joints with my mileage climbing but wanted to coordinate downtime with my t-case rebuild.
@@LBZOverlander look for wear on the inside of them, and it will have almost like a stainless look to it cleaned up. If your real worried about it; it wouldn’t be a bad idea to just replace it for piece of mind.
Thanks for the video man! Definitely going to be replacing my u joints after watching this. I can tell they are starting to get slapped out so it’s definitely time to replace them.
Awesome video dude! Have you ever trimmed the bumper and inner fender on a duramax like that? If so what would you use a grinder or maybe a sawzall or something?
@@kingkolt886 that would be a pretty price sponsored video lol. I wouldn’t be opposed to it, may I ask what is wrong with your rear diff that you need the ring gear replaced? Do you just need rear axle seals replaced or more? Also does your locker need to be replaced too?
@@DIYDiesel I have a 03 Chevy duramax 2500hd. When I reach 60mph to 70mph there’s a loud squeal coming from rear. I changed my fronts and driver rear bearings. Still have the noise. I’m wondering if it’s the rear dif gears. Possible loose bearing. Want to know how to change the bearings rack/pinion and seals. Along with how to install it with the blow back tools.
@@kingkolt886 there’s allot going on back there have you opened up the rear diff to inspect the gears? Or changed the oil recently to see the color of it. Also did you change both inner and outer bearings on the rear?
I’m about to put engine mounts and u joints in my 03 and this video is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks helps a lot. I’m going to do mine now hope mine go as well as yours
Thank you! Hope all goes well

How could you tell there where going out
Kroil is the absolute best penetrating oil hands down
Great job 👍 Awesome thanks brother D 🏁 Need to get the puller, alot easyer than a deep socket and a hammer 🔨 😂 Lmm in Colorado 🤠
Absolutely worth the 80 bucks I think that’s what it cost. Money well spent by now!

Appreciate it! I have trimmed my bumper & inner fender 👍 angle grinder and painters tape are the best to use. With a hammer for a nor cal mod
@@DIYDiesel thanks dude that's what I was thinking.

Spicer is the brand to go with? What about those 4 plastic washers looks weak.
No grease on the splines??
Do you have a video on how to replace the rear differential on a 03’ Chevy duramax 2500hd?
The ring gear? I do not
@@DIYDiesel would you be opposed to do a video on how to do it ? If needed I would be willing to send you money to make a video on it.

Thanks. Very helpful.
Glad to hear! Thank you
Bring that Kroil up to south Dakota we will test it on some up pipe bolts LOL
Lol if it works here it’ll work there lol if you haven’t used it before I’d suggest giving it a try 👍
Bro cmon what you doin with that harbor freight hairdryer…? Just playing dude, this video helped a lot 👍🏻
Use the box end, never the open end
Just knocked out both diff fluids after your last vid, guess I’m doing u joints next smh ha
Lol that’s awesome! I’d highly suggest doing them if you haven’t, or if you don’t know what the previous owner has done 👍
@@DIYDiesel judging by the metal shavings in the front diff…I’d say they didn’t 🤦
