I show you the three symptoms of a bad u-joint, how to remove the driveshaft, and how to replace the universal joint with a press and a hammer.
Again, thanks Advance Auto Parts for providing all of those universal joints so I could make the video! Here is what I used:

I cannot tell you how much money you have saved me and built my confidence when it comes to working on cars. I honestly used to just have my car serviced and I always got ripped off. Your videos and the great detail you put has helped me work on my own car. Your enthusiasm makes it really fun to work on and not a hassle when I have to maintain my vehicles. From your videos, I have been able to easily work on my Mazda RX8, Ford Explorer, and Jeep Compass. No longer will I have to spend thousands of dollars on mechanics when it will typically cost me less than 200 hundred and I learn something new. Thank you, Chris.
Awesome!!! I love hearing stuff like this! That is the goal by far! I spend so much time trying to make each video as detailed and concise as possible so you dont waste your time and learn a lot while still enjoying the video!
Speaking of RX-8 where's the apex seal tutorial ChrisFix
lol. Would be easier than piston ring tutorial. 13b Ftw
Solomon Cornish lol right. I think if you look up rx8-ls conversion you'll find it.
Very true. I was watching you when I was changing out the wheel hubs on my Gen Coupe.
I just spent 20 minutes learning how to replace U joints. I don't have a car.
But now you know how to replace U joints if you ever get a car that has them!
And you can help your friends replace theirs!
ChrisFix dont delete your channel in the next few years, i need those vids for a project car lol..
TheBillusBillus me too
Lmfao
FINALLY A NEW VIDEO I BEEN WAITING FOR WEEKS!! 😭😭😭
Yesssss
I was waiting for ages to
Absolutely one of the best vids on RUclips. I especially like that you can articulate your thoughts without the irritating use of ums, ahs, and ums, and ahs. Job well done. You are the kind of friend I would appreciate having, listening to and talking with.
This was great! Not only am I much more confident in my ability to replace my U-joints, but I'm more certain that they are where that noise and vibration is coming from, saving me a ton of money on getting it diagnosed or trying to go through a process of elimination
I watched the whole Video...and i don’t even have a Rear, All, or 4 wheel drive car. =]
That’s awesome! Thanks for the support
I don't even have a car x)
CheeChee Xiong lol me too, I have a front wheel drive car xD
+1!! Love Chris' videos. I have no need for this (at this time ) but felt I had to have at least a glance at a new video from him. Ended up watching the whole thing! 22 min flew by. Chris you are simply the best example of how helpful youtube cvan be. 3M subscribers says it all. Thanks!
Same here since most euro cars are fwd (at lest where I live).
This guy is excellent, if I have any issues with any of my vehicles, then I come here first, he explains everything thoroughly, excellent work.
I've replaced many u-joints, even using the methods you used in this video, and I still watched the whole thing. Good stuff..
Thanks Chris,
even though I have done it before (510K miles on a Ram 2500 Turbo Diesel) it's always nice to see
things from a different view and get updated about what could matter - take care!
Fantastic presentation. I was actually scared away from this repair after watching a certain famous channel using his own quick method but now I'm ready to tackle the faulty driveshafts I have..
Great video. I really appreciate the attention to detail when explaining not only what your doing but possibilities
i just enjoy watching random videos from your channel, its not even stuff that my truck needs i just like seeing maintenance jobs made so easy to follow
Nice job! 👍👍. Now we know if you ever wait a long time we know its gonna be good!
Thanks!!!
this had to be the most fantastic instructional video I have seen on you-tube! Thank you!
Great video Chris. Quality = TopNotch
Epicbassman 01 bruh you didn’t even watch the whole thing yet
Derek Vuong lol
Winner Winner Chicken Dinner!!!!
ChrisFix videos are always great though
DM me your name and mailing address for your free ChrisFix swag! You were the first comment on the new video and every first commenter gets swag!
Thanks Chris, your videos are so helpful. Cheers
Nice one. (really liked the grease gun fit tip).
great piece of work
Thanks!
Hey Chris. Please build an engine from scratch.
Good idea!
nice, frankenstein engine!
Ekeno Akwam that’s a great idea I’d love to see that
ChrisFix omg you'll actually do it??? Like eventually?
@@jeremydupas Well... there was a driftstang video where he teased an engine swap. Who knows though.
great video Chris. Thx for the great info !
I think I just became a mechanic watching this video
What if the whole front short drive shaft moves ? Is there a problem with the transfer case ? On my 2015 Cadillac Escalade my truck vibrates
Very well made video!
Hey guys!!!
I will be having a meet-up in Gainesville, FLORIDA on March 15th at an Advance Auto Parts at this address:
2018 SW 34th Street
Gainesville, FL 32608
Also, if you cannot tell the weather has been miserable this winter and working on cars outside is nearly impossible. I have been updating a lot on my Instagram @ChrisFixit but I am also trying out a new feature on my RUclips home page here where I asked for you to guess my new car: ruclips.net/user/PaintballOO7community
ChrisFix hay I would go if I trusted the 240 a little more XD
ChrisFix I sooo wish I could go, but I live in Ohio.
Chrisfix I'd love to come, but I'm in Virginia, so maybe if you come closer sometime!
ChrisFix About time you post
ChrisFix I wish i have a car but im 11 lol
As a seasoned tech myself I must say I’m impressed with your step by step, very descriptive instructions. Your happy go-lucky narration is a added perk for simplifying the process and subconsciously giving your watchers a touch of confidence. Well done sir.
If ChrisFix does it in 22 minutes, it takes me 2 days
Ian Logan ME TO! But still love to do it myself! I really enjoying working on my car now!
Yeah, really.
You need the parts then the tools then a Vice and a shop...that's 2 days.
Oh, I think if Chris didn't edit his videos as much as he does, you'd find that it takes HIM a lot more than 22 minutes to see a project to completion. His brake fluid replacement video took probably an hour of prep before the camera even began rolling. He had the Mazda on no fewer than 4 jack stands and the differential was supported by a floor jack.
Steve Walther ppl nm
No matter what you're fixing, you explain it so that everything is simplified and the average DIY mechanic can understand it. That's for the vids bro!
Thanks man! That’s the goal!
ChrisFix do you recommend a drinking game where every time you say “u-joint” I have to drink something? I’m not 21 yet soooo probably water
E Man being under 21 never stopped anybody else right? 😂🤷♂️
Snapped the 300th Like! - Hail to the ChrisFix King Baby !!! 😄 👍
@@eman7579 At least drinking habits will get U-Jointed together... (with people) 😄 👍
This guy is better than most instructors I've had in school.
Hahaha I know right, I’ve thought similar
My autoshop teacher actually will on occasion use a Chrisfix video as part of a lesson
My instructor is making my class watch this lol
That's the God's honest truth
Are you from Croatio
You just need your own TV show dude. Thumbs up if you agree!
Thanks!
@@chrisfix I can see it now, ChrisFixit! New on Discovery.
I rather not. He has 100% creative freedom on youtube. Places like discovery will chage everything. Remember Roadkill?
Disagree. It'll be hell trying to search videos on TV.
Networks would screw it up.
I swear if Chris Fix did a video on heart surgery then after watching it and getting pumped up with positivity I'd go out and attempt it.. Love ya videos Chris.. Every angle covered!
Haha, that's awesome!
jayc changing oil and filter on 2008 buick
😂😂😂 he makes things look easier, i don't think if he knows that he is the best teacher
Hhahhaha i know right! I dont have a vehicle with ujoints but now i want to find someone that does and fix em
I was thinking more like knee or hip joint replacement surgery. I mean really, once you get over the aspect of working inside a human body it’s pretty mechanical use of tools etc. How hard can it be? Medical grade sawzall or Dremel to cut out the old part; drill some holes; titanium screws and bolts to install the new joint, lubrication. Done.
*scrolling through RUclips*
*notification that ChrisFix has a video*
Me: Ooooooo ChirsFix
Ohhhh yeahhhh

Can you please make a drum to disc brake conversion video
Yes
nice
Mudassar Malik been waiting like 2 yrs for him to make that video when he teased us about it
Mudassar Malik MCM did one. You can check their channel
ChrisFix I have a drum brake car and the parts for a disk brake if you want
The effort you put into your videos is insane. Really high quality, you clearly care. Thanks Chris 😀😀🔧👍🚗
Thanks a lot!
Just think , 10 years ago, I paid the Nissan Dealer $600.00 to do this to my Little Nissan truck 'cause there was no vid or easy way to do this or change the U-joints.....That's $600.00 and all day waiting for them to do it....Goes to show you what kind of $$ you save by doing it yourself with a superb instructor like Mr Chris Fix showed here..!!!!,,Just saying..!!!!....You rock, Sir !!!!!!!!!😊😊😊😎😎

Its very easey like he said i did it on two explorers
I've probably watched 100s of auto repair videos over the years, and this is by far the best video I have seen. The video is high resolution, the shots are clear, the edits are sharp, and the flow is quick and crisp. No fluff or wasted time. Amazing job! Thank you!
Finally new episode ChrisFix
Yessss
Yeah finally, next waiting for ChrisFix April fools :D
and thats how you become the most legendary diy channel in youtube
Thanks
Chris, you're a wonderful instructor. I particularly like the way you clearly explain how to do each step, and then repeat the explanation. That's a very effective teaching technique. Many thanks.
Thanks a lot!
This man deserves an honorary doctorate in teaching and performing vehicle maintenance. Production and editing quality is brilliant! Absolutely superb videos!
Thanks a lot! I'm glad you love the videos!
Totally agree!!

Your production quality is second to none Chris!
I love the show Wheeler Dealers as it shows the technical side of car repairs. However, I’d much rather watch one of your videos.
Discovery could learn a thing or two from you.
Thanks a lot Brent!
Such a shame what they did to Ed
They ruined that show
Pid I know right I can’t stand the show now it’s sad.
my car is FWD, I have no reason to watch this...
yet here I am
I don't even have a car!
not old enough or use public transport?
Literally same.
Same
Third time watching this video, it's 12am and I have school tomorrow,LOL.
Yeah, the whole world is 4WD even in Flatland. It's frustrating because you get into the video and about halfway through you find out it's 4WD. Some 4WD vids don't even bother to tell you it's 4WD. Nevertheless, that teaches you to recognize when a video is wasting your time.
It's been too long, man. Thumbs up for another great vid!
Thanks man!
Timur Productions I thought car throttle mentioned Chiriss dads leg was hurt
Its uncommon for someone to explain something so comprehensively. It takes effort to put yourself in the mindset that removes the assumption of basic knowledge of any subject, this guy nails it! Nice job, thanks.
Can’t wait to see your April 1st I mean... March 31 video
It's going to be 5 uses for elbow grease.
Sorry if I spoiled it for you mate...
Its piston return springs😂
As a mechanic myself, I just LOVE LOVE watching your videos! You do everything thoroughly and right. Very professional work. Sadly, there aren't many mechanics out there that care for their job as much as they should though :(
Aslan Makhsudov true! Hey bro, cud use ur help if you dont mind? On my trucks drive shaft that connects to the alternator, I noticed splash of grease above it? What is it , transmission fluid??
Could be numerous of things, generally if it is around driveshafts it is from leaky seals.
@@D_Dowg626 Try topping off your blinker fluid in your radiator. I had the same issue where the oil pump fuse kept blowing out because of the static electricity of the floor mats. Do that and you'll gain a easy 50 whp and 8 psi of boost!
That's because customers always try to blame Mechanics for shit that we didn't even fucking touch
Aslan Makhsudov how do you find out what u joint fits in your drive shaft and yoke??
Btw.. really important to not wait on this repair because the vibration will wear out the seals and other related items and increase rate of maintenance and cost.
Yes, thanks for the vid
Glad the video was helpful!
Francisco Torres sub to me I sub to you
"For my Mustang when we supercharge it" 😬 waiting..

Its ok
I'm 9 and ik alot
Even I'm 16 but love watching his videos , I'm a car enthusiast n wish to become an automobile engineer
I got my first car about a year after I started watching his videos, since then I have changed my cars oil, air filter, both front brake calipers, brake pads and rotors, brake lines, and rear wheel cylinders. I would be enslaved by dealerships and mechanics if it weren’t for Chrisfix
He's back! :-) Outstanding video Chris. The same type of joints with clicking and clunking can also be found in your steering column. I replaced my intermediate shaft recently. I bet the road salt used in the winter got into those joints and helped make them worse.
Thanks and yes. I was going to include that info but decided to focus on the drivetrain only
It's no wonder why you rate at the very top for auto repair videos. You couldn't have explained things better.
Do trim restore please!!! I have a Honda Element with all plastic panels and I’ve seen a lot of videos videos but i don’t know which one is good since a lot of them have different types of reviews. Keep up the good work tho!

I love how much you care about the subscriber and people who watch your videos, you got the whole drive shaft just to show us how it’s done, I just wanted to let you know that I appreciate that thanks Chris.
Thanks man! The goal is to help as many people as possible so I thought it would be important to get a driveshaft just for that extra info!

I bet the video/s will be miles better than LMR or AM lol
That transition at 16:00 though
Such an awesome video, Chris. I helped my friend replace a U-Joint on his truck a few years ago and I’m really upset your video wasn’t there to help us. It would have been SO much easier with your help!
Thanks man!
I'm getting Vibrations after 60mph. Is this the U Joints? Thx, Chris. You're Excellent. It was towed. After the tow is when the vibration occurred
It could be. Go under and see how the ujoints look and see if there is play.
those transitions were incredibly clean
Only Chris would be the one to go to a junkyard and find a different style of driveshaft just to make sure all the bases are covered on the replacement of the U joint. You really outdid yourself. Awesome job man!!
Thanks a lot!!!!
Extra STAR for that.
men oh men that looks good we really appreciat your time and effort to make this helpfull video keep up

Thanks a lot!
I wish my u-joints came out that easy. Nope.. not easy at all.
Before u joint the four bolts will make one cry.
Ya, my sentiments exactly.
I've just finished up changing the Pinion Seals, U-Joints, and Carrier Bearings (as well as other work) on two trucks. The first was a 99 Dodge Ram 3500 and the second a 98 Dodge Ram 2500. Had to heat all the strap bolts to remove. Had to CUT the U-joints out, heat the caps and remove them with an air chisel !
Definitely was NOT this easy.
I couldn't hammer them loose... Even the c-press did not work. Ended up buying a 10 ton shop press. At 7 tons they gave and came loose
@@TheShellshock67 Wow.
@Meme Man your saying like leave the bolts in and revove the end clips?

You make it look so easy. I’ve been at it since 11am. It’s 6pm now lol about to through truck in trash lll
Lol...I can relate. Two I was able to get on but the other two is half on and wont budge or move any further. I have to now pay a mechanic to fix my problem.
@@oneloveyessah watch out sometimes you will accidentaly knock the roller pins into the bottom of the cab and you will not be able to fully install the ujoint and if you force to hard you will break the loose needle pin

Thanks for making these videos. I would have never known how to fill up my blinker fluid with out your help.
