From an aesthetics standpoint the Timex is surely the better of the two in my eyes as well. The movement goes to Seiko so I can see how this would be a tie. Good video. Enjoyed it!

I agree with you, Josh, I would lean more towards the Seiko for the robust movement, but I love the look and aesthetics of that Timex more! Cool comparison vid! 😎🍻🙌

I have a lot of Seiko's in this range and they tend to look a bit "samey" they're good but uninspired. I'd go for the Timex on this one personally, not that it breaks any ground but when compared to other Timex watches it stands out. Thanks for the great video.

Probably fair as a draw if you are specifically looking at them as specific field watches , but the Seiko is a better watch as you say Josh, it's down to the movement . 👍🙂

Absolutely awesome video, so looked forward to seeing it and you didn’t disappoint Josh. I think you were right on all the categories, and I’m pleased to see the Timex do so well, as I’m a fan of Timex and it is our (North American) brand. I think Seiko would have killed it if they made the case dimension a 40 instead of 42. While I love a 42 and I did get a Seiko auto, I do have to say that my Timex quartz field (same as auto featured here basically), because it’s a 40, hits a better sweet spot for me, even though I love the dial on the Seiko much more. I think if my Seiko (and this one) was a 40 mm it would have won it over at least for me, but a tie is a satisfactory result me thinks in this one.
Awesome job on the video as always, so inspiring, truly, helping me to think of ways to up my game as well, thanks Josh!

Great review!!! That Seiko mvmt is indeed a workhorse plus you get the added functionality of the day/date, though I think that classic timeless and iconic asthetic of the American Field Watch in the timex is a beauty!

If you're not going for a Hamilton, the better option is the solar version of the Timex. It's a better watch than the mechanical, but at 41mm is just slightly too big.

Great Video ! I like UP-grading my Field Watches with a NATO/EDC watchband and a Suunto button clip on compass ! For the digital watches I like the 24-Hour mode... And for the slogan "ounces equal pounds" there is Titanium (or plastic... NO, NO). The other "T" of Double T watches is Tritium ! But not having Tritium (not yet) I have an Olight (Made in China... NO, NO) with 2300 Lumes to charge the hands/dial of the watch and compass. A young lady back in the last Century told me to screw in the Crown to keep it water proof ! So I like 100 meter (or more ! ! !) at least to keep the watch dry. Like my sub $100.00 USD/U$D Titanium watch but the Timex Titanium is over three times the cost ! Timex with the Timex James brand version are very nice watches ! Go Timex, Go Titanium and Tritium ! tjl P.S. For the Army guys on the move all the time, a good option maybe the Automatic and/or Solar Watch !

I'm all for the Seiko because of the automatic self-winding movement and the day and date. Timex dial looks too busy and crowded for me. I agree all three Timex hands are too short. I also like metal bands over any other type. So, I'm for the Seiko with my money. If my wife or sons gifted me the Timex I would happily accept it.

I have the Timex in white dial coming.. I had a Timex white dial when I was a kid. I loved that watch and wish I still had it.. If they would put a Miyota movement in this one, it would be better! Can't wait to get mine to see how accurate this Chinese movement is. I've heard it could be a Seagull movement.. If it's within +6-8s/day like my Fossils I'll be ok with it.

Hello Josh, I absolutely love these head-to-head battles. Great job on your part. I agree with your comments, but I would have scored the Seiko a tad higher as it relates to its movement. Personally I would also pick the Seiko over the Timex mostly due to the movement, although I prefer the case finishing of the Timex better. Lastly, this being a field watch, I rather have the day/date complication of the Seiko, and it's stainless steel bracelet eventhough not great but more versatile in case of water.
    What happened to water resistance?
Thank you again for a great video. Happy Friday my friend 👍

Polishing is necessary for a field watch as the reflective surface i.e. case back can be used to signal rescue personnel by using sunlight.

The only withdraw for the Timex in my opinion is the movement, it's gorgeous had has a more field-watchery look, but about that movement, is it good? is it bad?
On the other hand, you can't go wrong with a Seiko movement and if you are going to use it daily, the automatic winding and the day-date complication come really handy.

The better Seiko Field watch is the SRPJ81 and other variations of it. It's the smaller version of the SRGP. It has a smaller case at 36mm. A field watch was designed to go under a field shirt and jacket. And should not be more than 38mm. I read the Amazon reviews on the Timex and there are lots of complaints.

I couldn't see myself buying a mechanical or automatic Timex because indiglo is one of my main reasons for preferring the brand's quartz watches over others. Take away the indiglo, as you do on anything other than quartz, and it's just not Timex in my opinion.

Great video. Not a totally new concept but very entertaining and well done. The movement in the timex seems very small and has a lot of ugly plastic around it. But if it is the same as in the 34mm Marlin i would trust it. Mine turned out to be reliable and reasonably accurate. But I'll still go with the seiko. It has a very dressy appeal without compromising legibility and toughness making it a great everyday watch. And if you are more of a field purist, you can get the same watch with a brushed or blasted finnish. As for the crystal: I always prefer domed over flat, sapphire though it may be.

Definitely the Timex for me. Any Seiko under 400 is trash.
I don't get the automatic thing at all; it's so much more satisfying and personal to handwind plus what's the point of a see through case back when all you can see clearly on an automatic is the winder.

I think Id rather get a citizen Promaster Nighthawk instead. It might be a little more but you can always find sales on them for less or equal to these watches. Much rather has a solar quartz. I know I'm in the minority on that.

I own the Seiko and it’s crap. Its bracelet proved impossible to fit with two micro adjustments, the single-domed crystal’s massive reflections and its rather low-contrast dial lead to a murky look. But most importantly its ostentatious near 40 mm size shows no resemblance of a classic field watch, wears like a diver and looks like a tacky fashion watch. It is just too large for my average 175 mm wrist.

the timex movement looks like a tianjin. that makes the timex heavy overpriced. it think, timex is best with quartz for a realy affordable price.. with quartz and indiglo for under $100, the timex would be an epic win.

i googled a bit.. its probably not even a seagull tianjin, its more likly a clone of a seagull from hangzhou or PTS.. the retailprice for those movements for the enduser (1 piece with taxes) is around 25€. i bet, Timex can get them for less then $10 in Bulk

The movement in the Timex is the one short coming but they are throw away priced. You're not going to pay to get either serviced. I'm going Timex here.
